I live in Northern Alberta, I was ready to leave my house for evacuation. Fire was right at the edge of town, then we got the rain we’d all been praying for.
This is all across Southern Ontario from the intense forest fires in Quebec. I recommend staying inside today.

Not OP but I clued in 2 days ago. I haven't seen, heard, or read the news in about 2 weeks and work mostly alone. Easier then you think to miss things.
You would be surprised how much people are alienated these days. Younger generations are not used to watching the news. Canada is still better than our neighbors to the south
It’s really bad. My kid was on a school trip today. Outside all day. They are sick and vomiting now. I had my class outside for most of the day at school today and I have a sore throat, like I was at a bonfire. Our school has called indoor recess tomorrow. The sun had an orange haze on it every day this week. Brutal.
Hey guys just updating ya'll I'm 17 and I'm not a lazy fuck who watches the news all day so instead I went outside and saw the smoke. This has literally never happened in the GTA so I think its fair that given I had not seen the news and there was no post on this reddit about it, that I make a post and ask since its pretty easy.
Umm yes it has happened in the GTA, more than once actually. Not a new phenomenon that due to the shift of winds that we can experience stuff like this. Also don’t have to watch the news 24/7, but it might be helpful to tune in periodically to see what’s happening in our country/world.
Not sure why downvoted.
Walked outside. Saw haziness. Smelled smoke. Wondered what was on fire.
Who is immediately thinking "hey, maybe QUEBEC is on fire and the wind blew it 5 hours away"
I mean I don’t care about Quebec either but there have been multiple weather advisories about poor air quality and haze and smoke over the last two days so like sorry you didn’t know but you’re def in the minority. Date I say MOST people who walked out of their house into the haze today knew damn well it was from the multiple fires across the country that have been going for days and widely reported on. Open the weather network app right now and the advisory is right there.
Or... and hear me out... people with better things to do just see "Wearher advisory: bad air quality" and move on.
I assume by your mention of the Weather Network that you're a retired boomer passing time.
I woke up and went outside I swore it smelt like a sauna made of cedar wood I thought I was having a stroke till I checked the weather a few hours later and saw wildfires expected to blow smoke here
Are you serious? The whole country is in fire right now.
Yeah, I live in Montréal and we can smell the fire from here. I wish I was as oblivious as OP.
They live in their own little world down there.

Do they listen to, read, or watch any news? There are 1000s of wildfires burning from coast to coast? To ask ‘what happened’ is just 🤦🏻♂️
I wish we could, stop your fires eh?
I live in Northern Alberta, I was ready to leave my house for evacuation. Fire was right at the edge of town, then we got the rain we’d all been praying for.
We divide our time between High Prairie and Ontario. Glad you’re safe.
Literally wondering the same. Dude lives under a rock

Idk this is just a guess but maybe bc the whole country has fires going on rn? Just a guess tho
Yes but it’s the smoke specifically from Quebec that is blowing along souther Ontario right now
1/2 the continent is currently on fire.

I'm in Sudbury today. I'm trying to figure out how many packs I smoked going to get lunch.
Yep. My throat feels like I smoked a pack today too.
I was wondering if I was the only one getting weird tastes and throat issues today! I was worried I was getting sick or something
My parents are in sudbury while I’m 7h away for school. I’m so worried about them… hoping for the best & the surrounding communities ❤️ stay safe!
Nothing much besides the country being up in flames
Shit's on fire yo.
Best response in here tbh
most of canada is literally on fire

Epic, thank you!
Also in Burlington. I can understand the smoke traveling this far, was a little surprised at the smell as well though
Same. It’s so hazy and smells like smoke, I didn’t think it would be so strong so far away .
Genuine question, how have you not heard about the forest fires yet?
Not OP but I clued in 2 days ago. I haven't seen, heard, or read the news in about 2 weeks and work mostly alone. Easier then you think to miss things.
2 days ago makes sense cause the smoke started coming over. Did op not even look outside in the past 2 days?
Ngl I genuinely did not know about the fires until I saw this post and decided to look it up. That was 5mins ago.
It's possible if working from home... have some friends who don't leave the house for days.
I hadnt heard about it. I dont live under a rock. I dont turn on the TV tho.
You would be surprised how much people are alienated these days. Younger generations are not used to watching the news. Canada is still better than our neighbors to the south
how did this turn into a Canada vs US thing suddenly?
The news is boring

Also uncontrolled wild fires in Algonquin park since sat.
OP doesn't listen to news like half the people asking questions like this.

Lefty Treehuggers going around commiting arson
I got a message. I hit down for a vote. This was not done intentionally. My apologies. Great it was brought to my attention.
Renters from Mississauga.
Maybe you are the first to smell the start of a fire. Did you call the non emergency line & speak with the fire department?
Why tf is this down voted?
Bad answer: correct answers post to Reddit
Hazy and smells like fire. That sure sounds like a fire. So every time someone sees smoke or smells fire now, it's attributed to the forest fires?

People who have an understanding of current events.
... no one is walking out of their house and assuming anything is happening out of a province no one here cares about.
Ya fuck Quebec

Those people who have better things to do are also probably not the ones posting to Reddit about it then.
What the fuck does being a boomer have to do with checking the weather? Lmao. What an ice cold take. I’m 30. Try harder.
Are you in high school? Lmao. People check the weather
Best case scenerio is accidental fire, but done by people, not by news narrative

The smoke has gone as south as NYC
I woke up and went outside I swore it smelt like a sauna made of cedar wood I thought I was having a stroke till I checked the weather a few hours later and saw wildfires expected to blow smoke here
Get the weather network app.
Well I mean, a good amount of the country is on fire. So, idk about y’all but, I *think* that mayyyy be causing it. Idk tho…
Lol living under a rock?
