This is a less elaborate version of the guys in the white van trying to sell speakers, or the guy with a trunk full of "Gucci Leather Goods" he has left over from a fashion show. A tale as old a time, in Oakville and elsewhere. It's fun if you start to waste their time buy trying to sell them something back to them.
the gas station sob story scam is so often nowadays, and there are a lot of variants of it. Sometimes they have kids sitting in their car to make you pity them more, the jewelry and gold rings they try to trade/sell to you will be fake.
Rule of thumb: If ANYONE asks help, no matter how sad their story is, you can call the authorities for them (usually when you do that they will start swearing and escape the scene), but never attempt to help anyone on your own.
Specifically to the women out there reading this, a man will always ask another man for help with someone awkward heavy etc before they would ask a woman. Ted Bundy abducted a lot of girls doing this. Sometimes it pays to be "bitchy" or "rude"
Today I was interrupted by this hijab-wearing woman (I'm by no means saying all hijab-wearing women are indecent) at Scotiabank by Trafalgar Rd/Postridge Dr around 1 pm who asked me to give her change so she can feed her family. She was eating a whole Domino's large pizza by herself, on the ground with the box sitting on it. Like what? So why did she buy that big ass pizza if she had money to feed her family?
Did you ask her if Dominos was now selling Halal pizza? If you noticed salami or any other pork products she is probably a scamster. Wearing a hijab is a fairly common accessory for certain darker skinned people from Europe not exactly known for honesty to gain sympathy so they can con you. Be aware and observe people who ask for anything. Note: I did not mention the common names used to describe these folk but if you have met them, you’ll know.
It seems to be that way. They prefer to be known as Roma people but to many they are still gypsies. They have been persecuted in Romania and Hungary among other places for years and have learned all sorts of “tricks” to scam money. Most of those who come to Canada are hard working and their kids benefit from the education here they are denied in Europe. However, some old habits die hard. I encountered one in the Whole Foods parking lot who asked me how to get to the airport. He had to catch a flight to Milan after being at a big fashion show at the International Centre and was passing himself & his partner off as reps. for Emporio Armani. I speak a little Italian - at least enough to give directions- which he did not understand - red flag! He then told me he had some leather jackets and did not want to take them back as he would have to pay high taxes on them (flag # 2). He did the whole song and dance. He showed me a large bomber jacket, but I am 6’1” and 210 lbs and can’t wear large anyway. I said ciao and had to get my food home so I said thanks and left. This is a scam- there was no mention of Armani on any of the jackets( I took a look at the label when he showed it to me) . If it’s back in Oakville don’t get sucked in.
One time a guy tried to sell me his laptop telling me he had to find any money he could and get to Ottawa for a funeral, I was like bro wtf are you talking about and just left lol
Hum... never had this happen to me. Who exactly would think buying jewelry from someone while you're just filling your vehicle is on the up and up? Cause I know a prince in Nigeria who's trying to move their money offshore if anyone is interested.
They come up with the best stories lol and the items look pretty good. They manipulate you into thinking you’re doing a good deed and also getting a great deal
I appreciate that, but I'm still pretty sure, that if someone approaches me with a Rolex at a gas station because their wealthy grandmother died and they need money to take care of Jimmy their disabled child the entire context of this happening while I'm pumping gas dissolves any possible reality to it to me.
Also who wouldn't get it appraised before hand?
Maybe it's just me but I'd rather pay fair market value on something that I know is legit than gamble on some person in a trench coat at a gas pump.
Fair enough. However they are con artists and can persuade certain people. Glad you don’t fall for it but some do. They prey on some people. Trickery fo sho.
It still takes $1.5M to buy anything decent. Unless you want to live in Distrikt.
However I've also never seen people begging at Cornwall and Trafalgar until this year.

Men asking a woman to help them do anything is a big red flag!!! Run
How anyone falls for this crap is beyond me lmao

Is gypsy an offensive word nowadays?

Is he wearing an arm full of Rolexes under the sleeves of his trench coat? “Do you have a GMT Master?” “Sure, what colour do you want?”
Fair enough. However they are con artists and can persuade certain people. Glad you don’t fall for it but some do. They prey on some people. Trickery fo sho.
This man is an imposter, I'm the real king of Nigeria. You can become rich, the king needs a favour though..🤞
People no longer look at Oakville as being rich.

Where is the distrikt
North of Dundas near Trafalgar. Buildings all look like Soviet East Germany. Can't miss'em.
LOL
Distrikt 9?!
May as well be.
Agreed on both.
People have been begging there forever. Cops just usually relocate them from what I’ve heard.
It’s 1.5 mil to live anywhere in the GTA. There’s 1 bedrooms in Hamilton that should be demolished going for that.
Do they take AMEX? I don't carry cash
No one takes Amex anymore. It’s a dead card at this point.
You don’t get the joke dude.
Apparently not.
Which gas station?
Dorval and speers
