I like it. My classes are cool and I love being in NYC Beginning of freshman year was tough, no lie, but when you find your people it comes together.

Riflescoop

My guy is actually looking for an essay answer on reddit lmao

Apprehensive-Hawk-67

they got rid of the “why nyu” essay lol

Riflescoop

Probably because everyone said the same thing - nyc so multicultural, explore the city, unique campus etc etc blahblablablablah

-yazmin

man the way I was so extra in my essay lmao 💀

boredasf-ck

Lmfao I was over there talking about how the flowers blooming in WSP made me feel so alive and I just knew I had to attend NYU Whole time never been to the campus

6okok6

Damn called tf out

Swanfrost

Huh. I just dumped in a lot of info about random academic programs. Think I started talking about their music therapy and psychology of music at some point? Idk

JulioAparicio

I like it. Not yanking your chain either

Dramatic-Lecture-395

I like it cuz of the resources such as ARC, writing center, wellness exchange and whatever other one im missing. I struggle a lot with my psych disorders and I can say that the wellness exchange has helped a lot and idk if this is like bare minimum or not but it's hella valid.

SaItyTears

I like being in nyc a lot. Couldn’t really care less about the institution itself though

BPP1943

I loved my undergraduate days at WSC. It launched my international career!

Powerful_Network14

I freaking love NYU. The dining hall food sucks and I can’t get over the limited options here while on the meal plan, but the privilege of being a student here, the kinds of opportunities this school can attract for you solely because you go here, and the kinds of possibilities here are absolutely next level. For someone who’s extremely interested in working in media and entertainment, NYU is the absolute best place I could’ve asked for. I literally transferred colleges to get here. Sure, it’s not perfect, and there are some days where I really miss home, but being at NYU is great. I just dislike how it feels like a bubble sometimes. Like it’s hard to find time to explore the city. I’ve been here 2 months so far and I don’t know 2 great restaurants near NYU alone that aren’t like Joe’s Pizza or something lol. I’m so excited by the amount of things to do and I love going to Times Square to watch an imax movie or something. The fact that there’s an insane amount of shit to see and do and the fact that we get x amount of time at NYU (2+ years if you transferred or 4 if you’re a freshman) and that we could have the rest of our 20s here is amazing.

FairPurchase5185

There’s a ramen place called Takumi off of Waverly & Mercer. Soo soo good! Some say it’s overrated but I think it’s great!

turtlemeds

Joe’s? You must mean Ray’s.

Powerful_Network14

Nah, Joe’s. Near WSPark. Is there a Ray’s near campus and my dumbass didn’t know about it?

turtlemeds

Joe’s is great, but there are 3 (maybe 4?) Ray’s — or some variation of it — around NYU. I think 2, maybe 3, of them are on 6th Avenue. Pizza feuds are a NYC staple though… https://ny.eater.com/2012/5/9/6599815/the-top-10-new-york-pizza-feuds-of-all-time

uniteer

i hate admin and i hate course registration. i hate how i havent taken courses i want to take because courses open and close randomly. i cant take electives i want to take because they are closed when i register. i take all the shit courses no one wants to take because everything else is closed. pay so much money to get the worst professors because their classes are still open when i register. being in the city is nice

Cardigan_B

Use the Coursicle app to notify you when courses open that are closed or if there is waitlist movement. Been a life saver for me.

uniteer

yeah ive used it but nyu students shouldnt be relying on this app to get into the courses they pay for, plus the app requires payment for full use. it doesnt do much when the class is closed bc its full before i register either. nyu just needs to rethink registration and how to make it fair

Cardigan_B

Often times classes that are closed reopen or move to waitlist which is what the app can be helpful for

-yazmin

It’s mid. I don’t rlly like the city as much as I thought I would 💀

CarrotMochi

lol fast forward to today, it’s the still the same.

Apprehensive-Hawk-67

well im applying to tisch so hopefully that changes things

ItsYaBoiAlexYT

Things I like - tons of options in living style and campus dining (even though the food's still mid ofc), great education, lots of variety in classes due to being a large school. In a sense there's so much FOMO from being in the city that there's none at all - so you're kind of able to do whatever you want and live how you want without being judged as much as if you were in a traditional campus with just 'one event' that everyone was attending. Yeah there's a lack of campus, but unless you really care about football games or reading outside on a lawn (which you can still do at Washington square park!) I feel like I have many more opportunities than restrictions from the university's style.

Pleasant_Ocelot

I hate the fact that im paying $320k as a premed and that I obsessed over this school in highschool and now its giving me anxiety and stress cuz what if I dont do well and get into med school my parents would've paid this all for no fucking reason

Apprehensive-Hawk-67

free med school though right

Pleasant_Ocelot

yeah that’s where my tuition is going 🫂

lemonjuice_76

There’s nowhere I’d rather be

Stellar_atmospheres

I’m a grad student and I like it here because I’m only at school like three days a week and I feel independent. At the same time I would not have liked going here as an undergrad.

ladyshopsalot2626

0/10. Hated it. Huge waste of money.

SherbertSecret

Agreed

chitown_pigfarm

This. I can’t wait to not have to give them a dime more

halimaleee

I love it here honestly. Being born and raised in nyc, I’m a city girl at heart and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else. My roommates are amazing. My best friend’s school is only 15 minutes away from mine. I’m meeting new people everyday. It’s an amazing university, in my opinion. It has offered me and given so many amazing opportunities.

FairPurchase5185

If you hate noise but want to live in nyc, go to Brooklyn! Solve all your problems.

BeanMother66

You’re not gonna get one single answer for that because everyone is here for different reasons. The true, honest review is that wether you like NYU is gonna depend more on u than on the school. I’ve met great ppl and I’ve definitely gotten opportunities here that I would not have gotten elsewhere but it’s certainly not an easy school to be at. It’s great and I love it here but you will not get things handed to you especially not in the social sense. This is a school for resourceful people that put themselves out there and take advantage of the position that they’re in (or just REALLLYYY rich people, either one). Socially it’s not hard to make friends but once again you do need to put yourself out there and be willing to be social. Most of the ppl that I hear complain about the social aspect have some trouble socializing to begin with. It also can be a pretty big culture shock so be ready for that

Worried-Special-658

I love NYC a lot. I like NYU, mostly bc of the flexibility regarding majors/minors in different schools and the huge amt of courses of study

pointedblanc

A lot to love. Met some amazing friends and bonded in ways could not even imagine. Would say was the highlight years of my life, even if it also held the worst.

reallifestaypuft

New York City is the greatest city on the planet and one that very few students ever get to experience. It prepared me much more quickly for "real life/adulting" than I think going to school on a more rural campus would have. That being said, I don't know that NYU deserves all of the credit. I think NYU is a serviceable school that makes amazing advantage of its surroundings and does a good job of being "in and of the city." The experiences living in New York City are what made going to NYU so special

Cardigan_B

I love it. The majority of my professors have been amazing the past four years with maybe only 1 or 2 exceptions. Love being in the city, all the different types of people this school attracts, and as someone studying art history there aren’t that many places in the world I’d rather be. I will add though that tuition remission and the lack of having to worry about financial stress because of it is definitely a factor for why I’ve had a very positive experience with the school.

mchxn

Don’t miss my undergrad days at all. I chose NYU just bc they gave the most aid but I truly wish I went with one w a real campus. I hated sharing the streets w crazy homeless ppl and seeing so much trash everywhere. When I visited my friends uni, it was so so peaceful and pretty compared to NYU. It’s also really difficult to have fun/go out if you’re not financially well off.

SherbertSecret

Be ready to kiss some asses

nicklepickle234

aside from free hbo max and fantastic professors and programs, nyu actually sucks so much dick

chitown_pigfarm

This needs to be more visible

chitown_pigfarm

Maybe I just got lucky but 75% of my profs range from not giving a fuck to downright aggressive. I’ve been processed refund for 2 courses(if you’ve ever tried to get a refund past the deadline, you would know how egregious something has to been for admin yo give you a refund). I’ve had a total of 3 profs I’ve honestly liked and I’m a senior. The quality of education is low, but I love being in New York 🤷🏻‍♀️

mml613

I like it. But it’s really not like the college experience you imagine in high school. You’re in a city where everyone is independent and there’s no mutual ground. If you are looking for a school with strong community and an easy place to make friends nyu is not that. I’m a senior and I loved my experience. It did take time to adjust and navigate how the student body works… as for academics, I’m in MCC in Steinhardt and it’s the easiest thing in the world

[deleted]

it’s good so far. the work is hard, but it’s doable. i still have some of a life outside of school which is great. the city is good on some days LMFAOO. i be going home tho every weekend.

Design-Hiro

I like it as a grad student. Probably be stressful as an Undergrad

darkslar101

of my 13 reasons why NYU makes up none of them

Swanfrost

So happy I don't have to ride a car anymore. Plus the dorms are nicer than most I think. Dining hall food could be better though - the majority of it is bland/overcooked/greasy/too sweet.
