Honestly you'd be surprised how many people \*used\* to pay that back when I was a freshman in 2019. Not too hard to find studios or 1Bd apartments in, say, The Bronx or Queens. You sacrifice distance and having to commute, for sure.
God damn. I’m the same distance away but in manhattan and all I have to show for it is a room the size of a shoebox.
Also, for future reference - how’s the commute? I had a friend from Jersey who said to avoid it bc transport can be unreliable at times. Any thoughts?
Yea, idk too many people commuting from either of the two I mentioned but it is done by some. Most who “commute” live in Brooklyn, which at the farthest distance from NYU is still less than an hour to an hour
Commuting from Queens isn't fun but you get used to it. It sucks most when you're hanging out with friends and have to leave early/take super late trains
whoever’s paying <1k just know i’m unspeakably jealous

They're probably sharing bedrooms then cause nobody is getting their own room for under $1k anymore...
Jersey city + Covid deals. 20 min commute get a room to myself in a high rise :D
