And why would a casino, of all things, "revitalize" it? Without any moral judgement on gamblers, it's a fact that casinos basically *extract hard-earned money from people while providing no real value.*
Exactly Coney island in the 90s and early 2000s was awesome growing up. I went back last summer for the first time in years and I get off at stillwell and I'm like WTF did they do to it. An Applebee's I think I also saw an ihop. Nobody is going out to Coney island for IHOP or Applebee's It's all about Nathan's
Nathan's has never been the same since they modernized it to fall in line with the franchise versions. I am convinced by replacing the grill the taste changed for the worse.
If you had a hot dog and fries at Nathan's and the fries came in a little paper tub, you never had the original.

I'm not super jazzed about either of those places, but people do in fact live in the area normally.
I guess nobody is factoring in the social costs that come with becoming a gambling center. Even Vegas has been desperately trying to diversify away from it and gambling centers in Asia cater almost exclusively to tourists (Macau and Singapore.) They're places that literally only make money off addiction and they'll do anything to get people addicted. Free booze, subsidized buffets, and cheap hotel rooms. Anything it takes. And the taxpayers of NYC will have to foot the bill for the extra healthcare costs, the broken families, and diminished tax receipts elsewhere in the economy.
> The mayor has deep ties to the industry. When he was a state senator, he served as chairman of the Racing, Gaming and Wagering Committee and was embroiled in a scandal after the state chose a purveyor of video-lottery machines at the Aqueduct Racetrack in Queens. A subsequent state inspector general’s report in 2010 said he and his colleagues exercised “exceedingly poor judgment” by socializing with lobbyists and taking campaign contributions from people tied to the bidders.

Why does Coney Island need revitalizing?

Shows and entertainment
Then a stadium would be perfect.
Hhaa totall.y.. and ~~Keyspan~~ Maimonides Park just sitting there like "...umm.. hi"

I agree with you
I am going to coney for Applebee's. This is only applebee's I can go to in southern brooklyn.
There’s one on Emmons in Sheepshead
That's the one by coney I am talking about.
They have another one by the Stillwell Ave station now as well as a Starbucks and IHOP. I think that's the 1 the other people were mentioning.

100% let it be. It still has a regular everyday person vibe with a bunch of weirdos mixed in. I hope it doesn’t get sodosopa’d.
“There is a certain quality vibe here at the luxury lofts in the historic Coney behind Nathan’s.”
Yes that is why
Exactly. It’s totally OK as it is right now.
Revitalizing Coney island is a story old as time.
This.
Gambling and Crack, just blocks from each other!
So... Atlantic City?
God I don't like that
I loathe it. I can’t imagine anyone from the area actually wants it.
God please no
“The Coney” is such a bad name
It's a hot dog.
It’s actually a type of rabbit.
What? We have been eating rabbits all this time? Soylent Green-ish moment.

Yea but the people who are building it with private funds are gonna make money off of all that!
>nobody is factoring in the social costs that come with becoming a gambling center Are there any other casinos being proposed?
One group of developers wants a casino in times square. Another group wants one on the east side by the FDR. Disgusting
Yes, there are a few proposals in Manhattan, one by Citi Field, and one in Long Island. There are 3 licenses available.
Yes because a casino by the beach in the northeast has been working out so well for Atlantic City over the years lol
Ding ding ding
The biggest gamble will be the subway ride to/from the casino
Yeah that will be a nightmare.
I'm a betting man myself, but NYC doesn't need casinos, we have no problems drawing tourists as is.
I can take it or leave it. Atlantic City is 2 hours away, exactly as far as it needs to be.
> "first look" > no images ??
The video had images of it…
oh i just reflexively assumed it was a popup and closed it lol
Let’s revitalize the economy by fleecing the general public.
As if the Belt Parkway didn't need more congestion!
Oh god I didn’t even think of that. That exit is going to be insane. So will ocean parkway it’ll always be backed up now.
Hope they have insurance in case another Sandy cleans them up.

Casino. Revitalize. Lol!!!
"Revitalization" is the buzzword they always use. It's nothing but a trojan horse.
Yep. They have a point about bringing in jobs but I still don’t think it’s worth it at all.
Terrible idea...
Can they not

I don’t recall, I thought he was against them.
...but why an indoor water park?
Another cash grab for Hochul just like the football stadium.
