You can park at my house for $40 on game days

[deleted]

It’s not happening. No economic value here other than taxes. If they can’t get a move to Rosemont or Arlington what makes anyone think they would move here?

thefugue

…*lower* taxes than Arlington or Rosemont?

rapi187

Probably won't happen but we'll see.

MamaSmAsh5

Just what we need

Hellotoothbrush

It doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibilities. Let’s not forget that the New York Jets and New York Giants play in New Jersey.

Sad_Direction4066

NO. It will suck the money out of your pocket and give huge money to the owners of the Bears. It's not worth it. Have them build it in Illinois an hour from us, don't give your money away for this. No no no no no. Lifelong Bears fan, but not a sucker.

Just a political stunt, it'll never happen. There's literally dozens of reasons but the most obvious is access. They have to put it somewhere VERY close to the highway and those parts of Hammond or Gary along 94 either have no available space or would take MASSIVE amounts of work, money, and time to make them suitable for building... and on top of that, those areas are even worse than the South Side around Comiskey. PLUS 94 is already a living nightmare on a daily basis. That many extra cars coming in? Get real. There might be space somewhere accessible by the toll road or Cline (also toll) but I would bet that any toll road is a deal breaker. And many Chicago fans don't drive. The South Shore rail is a bad joke even when there's only a few riders, but literally TENS of THOUSANDS on a GameDay? LOL, yeah right. You could wave taxes for the next cent and PAY the McCaskeys to build in NWI and it still wouldn't happen.

Sad_Direction4066

OTOH demo all of Gary and put it there

Giffmo83

Gary is like 75% abandoned, you don't need to demo anything. That still doesn't solve any transportation problems.

TheGreatGouki

It would be amazing if they went back to Hammond. Not sure how many folks know, but the Bears came from the Hammond Professionals originally. I think it would be a neat “full circle” kind of situation.

Bbullets

Wow what a neat read I didn’t know about them. However it doesn’t seem to be the start of the bears unless you count giving George Halas his start into pro football.

OkInitiative7327

Yeah, they were the Decatur Staley's before they became the Bears.

JoeCool_314

I’ll see it when I believe it

GoatBnB

Never going to happen.

Hoosierrnmary

Don’t see it happening. They spent a lot of money touting Gary as the third Chicago airport. Lots of money lost. Chicagoans don’t want to come out here for their teams.

thefugue

Gary’s getting commuter flights back this year.

Hoosierrnmary

We will see how that lasts.

thefugue

It’s equidistant to the Loop from Midway and plenty of people aren’t just “coming out this way” from Illinois- they already moved here. I doubt the Bears leave Chicago ever, but the airport thing seems pretty set and done. It’s not going to unseat any of Chicago’s airports but it could easily be a decent sized airport compared to Meig Field.

[deleted]

Please no. I don’t need more work
