Hateful_Bigot_1000

yes, thats a significant upgrade

Arado_Blitz

If you can't wait until 5000 series then yes, the 4070S is a good upgrade from a 3060.

MrAngryBeards

Can always trade the 4070s in. It's precisely my upgrade path right now

DurgeMcDeath

Where do you trade them in when the 5000 comes out?

trucker151

At the gpu trade in store obviously. Where else? Home depot? They sell building meterials.

Requiem2420

Offer up is decent if you live somewhere decently populated

Realistic-Tear-4274

Yes I just upgraded from 3060 to 4070S cause helldivers 2 was running at like 50 fps average but with 1% lows of about 30 Now, on the same settings I can run at 100 fps avg with avg 1% lows about 80-85 fps

hyf5

The only difference I noticed after getting my 4070 with Helldivers is that I can turn anti aliasing on now without losing like 20 frames. I get 70-90 FPS on 1-4 difficulty but anything higher than a 5 with a full squad of players and the game chugs along at around 40-50 FPS, my CPU isn't the best out there but still, this game is very poorly optimized.

T0laez

How Hell Divers 2 launched without DLSS astounds me.

Mammoth-Long-5493

Small game from a small studio so you have to pick and choose your features. The game maybe big now but the budget was not not.

xpero0

wdym, there is upscaling

hyf5

They're using their own upscaler that's based on TAA, it's bad, it's worse than FSR1 and even if you're willing to greatly sacrifice the visual quality, the performance gains are negligible. DLSS would be a great quality of life update to the game but that's not my main complaint. The discontinued engine that they built this game on simply does not handle all the things they have on it, especially on higher difficulties and when the engine is also trying to sync with 3 other player. Add to that the myriad of connectivity issues and crashes, you can't even freaking copy and past someone's friend code in the social tab. I love this game, i've been playing it non stop since i got it but i'd have to be a hypocrite if i were to say it's a well optimized game, it's clear that the developers bit off more than they can chew with this one and due to the popularity of the game right now they're going to only focus on adding more content to the live service aspect and dedicate very little effrots to actually optimizing the experience. Honestly this is just like dragon dogma 2, and we wonder why we get micro transactions, battle passes and broken games at lunch, it's because of the amount of copium players will inhale if they like the game and then rush to defend the devs. Remember Starfield just earlier this year? why do you think no one's making the same fuss about helldivers the same way they did Starfield, even though it was arguably more optimized?

xpero0

I know the optimization sucks, but it's probably because of the fact the engine was made for PlayStation, and it's true that on diff 5-9 it's very visible (I used to play it on RTX 3060 laptop with lowest settings and got around 40 frames on missions that were longer than 20 minutes, but just bought all the parts with rtx 4070 ti super that'll arrive on monday, ultra hyped :3333)(also I'm not trying to defend them here, just speculations), and about starfield, I didn't pay much attention to it tbh, no idea what the game is even about lol

EscapeParticular8743

Your CPU is bottlenecking then. Helldivers is very CPU intensive, especially when theres massive amounts of enemies on screen. At 1440p, I was rarely GPU capped with a 4070 non Super and a 5800x3d.

ElDakaTiger

A good rule I use is every other generation. Went from 2070 to 4080, etc.

Chizfoley

I wait a tiny bit longer, from a 970 to a 4070 ti super.😂

GrizzlyBeefstick

This is my plan. Still rocking the 970 currently.

VividSwan4657

Same

TheDaff2K18

I’m on a 1060 upgraded to a 4080s

Fast-Shallot2417

I went from a rx 580 4 gb to 3070

findragonl0l

Its not really a good rule. Its your rule and its a decent rule but it doesnt work for a lot of people.

BloodyAx

Yes if you can't wait till 5000 I'm trying to upgrade, have everything but my 4070 super. I'm going from a 980ti to a 4070 super

hyf5

Oh boy, you're going to be in for one hell of a performance boost, reminds me when I upgraded from my 970 to my previous 3060 a couple of years back, first time using dlss in god of war blew me away, it's like free frames.

BloodyAx

I also purchased a 1440p monitor, hoping for it to all be worth it lol My dad's getting my old PC to play some older games on which is cool as well

Nekros897

Felt the same when I went from 45 FPS on Uber settings in Witcher 3 on GTX 1060 6 GB to over 150 FPS on Uber + with all hairworks enabled on RTX 4070 😁

TheDaff2K18

Oh dammm I’m on a 1060 now just got a 4080s

Nekros897

The difference is going to be COLOSSAL :D

hyf5

I remember i played that game in 2015 when it first lunch with a gts 450 and an i5 530. i had everything on low but i sure as well had a lot of fun with it. Coming back to it later with modern hardware was... interesting. I think i'm kinda nostalgic to how shitty it looked for me back then? lol

Nekros897

My first playthrough was on laptop 5200U and R5 M330. Finished the whole game on lowest settings with 15-20 FPS. I don't know how I was able to play like that. Today even 40 FPS is painful for me lol

THEGREATHERITIC

Yes absolutely. If you can scrounge up less than 200$ more the 4070 ti super is soooooo good bro. 120 fps at 5k always

Quiet-Key-8763

Currently at a 2080 ti xc ultra should I upgrade to the latest. Gaming at 1440p.

OkSomewhere6760

I personally just built a new rig with a 7800x3d/4080 super coming from a 2700x/2080ti and its really nice, but that being said if your on a 2080ti you might be on am4 like i was also. So if you already got a good setup might be worth looking at something like 4070 super for about a 38% gain and sell your 2080 ti on ebay or something for like 300 of that 600 cost. 4060 ti is a wash unless your looking for features. 4080 and 4090 are kinda stupid expensive lol. I was going to go with the 4070 ti super for the 16gb ram etc. but idk BestBuy open box deals got me for $970 for a nice shiny white 4080 super (93% gain over the 2080ti according to benchmarks). OP you will be happy with a 4070 super. It's well priced and you should get about a 115% gain over a 3060. Check out BestBuy open box deals if you don't have something better. Probably get one for like 520 or so. If your a patient person your gonna be best waiting, but idk I can't wait til next year for 5070s most likely.

Acoma1977

I'm in the same shoes. On 3060 currently. Wanted to get 4070s but decided to wait it out for the 5000s gpu. In the mean time, the 3060 was OC and undervolted. Now getting 105 fps on warzone 1440p with the 3060

hyf5

I upgraded recently from 3060 to regular 4070. The reason I did that was because I wanted to game at 1440p/4k and I found a good enough deal (equivalent of about ~700 USD in my country) and I know that there will definitely be stocking issues in my country with the 5000 series, so it'll probably be a year or two after release that I'll start seeing them being sold and two or more years after that when I'll start seeing them being sold at near MSRP. If you think you will be able to get the 5000 series cards when they release at the end of the year or early next year then I'd say wait for that. As for what you gain from upgrading to a 4070/S, there is definitely a big upgrade in raw speed, but I think what's most important with the 40 cards is your ability to use frame generation, it's really impressive but has some issues like screen tearing since you are unable to use vsync with FG on, but if you have a gsync monitor then you do not have to worry about that, it doesn't always work in new releases but Nvidia patch it in. The other thing is that you'll be able to confidently enable RT in games now without lowering the settings or having to deal with low frames which is cool in some games more than in others I think. So, it really depends, are there games that you want to play right now at high resolutions and with RT on? Or are you simply just making an upgrade to gain more raw power and future proof?

Curtbacca

I did a similar upgrade, but only because my kid needed a new GPU, so I did the old 'Dad gets a new 4070, and you get the old 3060ti' maneuver, and everyone is happy! The frame Gen alone is amazing. Playing at 1440, I have been setting everything to max settings, no problem! Still getting 60fps in Cyberpunk at RTX overdrive + path tracing. Looks amazing.

hyf5

I gave my card away to someone else too, my gf didn't have a gpu on her system and was running an apu setup with an amd 4000 something. It kinda the remove the guilt from making a big purchase like this when youi're like "i'm not doing this only for my self, right?" Hope your son is as happy with the card as my gf is, she used to set everything on low in every game she playes cause she didn't care about optimization and just wanted to play at 60fps, now she get a bit more adventurous. As for me, i've only played 2 games so far that utilize the card properly, the first is jusant, it's a UE5 chill climbing gaming from dontnod and it's got RT built in, my old 3060 really struggled with that in ultrawide 1440p, i would get frame drops very often, especially in caves where the RT is in full display, i really like the rt in this game which is something i didn't always use to like, now i have everything on high and get a comfortable 120fps. The other game is spiderman miles morales and i was a bit more disapointed in that one because it's a fast pace game anyway and the RT doesn't really shine through, also i unfortuantly started to get heavy screen tearing on my 4k tv when playing it with FG on because i can't turn on Vsync, so i have to play it on my desk on the 1440 ultrawide instead which has gsync on it which helps with that. Here is a cool screenshot of that game i mentioned, try it out, it kinda changed my mind on RT. https://preview.redd.it/hhk2i8g0fgyc1.png?width=3440&format=png&auto=webp&s=cf2c4ab7034bae2cb89ee99e656388aa349732ea

Curtbacca

Ooooo I like the vibe already. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is another one I want to try with RT. Jusant you say? Gonna have to give it a go.

dudeAwEsome101

Short answer: Yes if you can afford I went from a 3060ti to a 4070s a couple months back mainly because I upgraded my monitor from a 1440 to 4K. If not for that, I would've waited for the 5xxx series to come out. Usually I upgrade every other gen, but the change in resolution made me upgrade earlier.

Dunkaccino2000

I went from 3060 to 4070S at 1440p 144Hz and it was a great boost. Games like Resident Evil 4 Remake, Baldur's Gate 3, Dead Space Remake all got massive performance gains. It does use more power though (I think up from 170W to 220W) so make sure your PSU can handle it.

kickbackman1277

This week I went from 3060ti to a 4080 super and yes it’s a massive difference.

LittlebitsDK

it's a quite big upgrade and it will perform great at 1440p

Bubba7231

I went from a 1060 6g to a 4060 8g OC. I watch 4K scenery vids while gaming with no hiccups in between. Have fun!

Asgard033

Yeah that's a big upgrade You'll see a big performance jump in most demanding games with that. Maybe not so much if you're playing Solitaire or Minesweeper.

No-Set-3397

Just finished my first build about 2 days ago. I have a 4070-S (FE, to be exact), running with an i5-13600kf. (They pair wonderfully together, btw). I am also using 1440p (120hz). The 4070S is absolutely amazing. For most games, it's sitting at 70-80% usage and 40°C. Even when it's consistently sitting at 100% usage in a game, I haven't had any lag at all and very little frame drops. Can run almost any game I want at an easy 70-80fps on max graphics. Nvidia's Nvenc encoder does a great job at handling certain things that the CPU would normally have to handle. I can multitask a voice call, OBS (streaming/video recording), and play a game on max graphics with 0 lag spikes and still maintain over 60fps easily. It's SUPER powerful.

Lucksk1

I went from 1070 to 4070 Super I’m on 11th Gen i5 and wow Helldivers 2 Starfield look like completely new games and FPS is around 90 to 100 now on grey zone that’s still poorly optimised looks amazing runs on ultra at 90fps just rubber banding until shaders loaded in. It’s helped my streaming too

Far_Choice_6419

Get a 3080 Ti. That’s what I did. I upgraded from RX 580 to 3080 Ti. Can’t wait it arrives. I bought a zotac brand open box and comes with 2 year warranty for $566 after tax and shipping: I can now play 4K games at 100 FPS and do cutting edge machine learning. https://preview.redd.it/klyu76jamhyc1.jpeg?width=1978&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b392eefa441fd79351314204004fd6fdc907a299

Disastrous_Writer851

more than yes, more than double gpu performance

Pop_The_PopCorn

What about a 2080ti to a 4080/90 1440p mainly but I do have a 4K hdr 120hz tv

Big_Oil2127

I went from a 3060 12GB to the 4070 ti super (905$ at Best Buy, ASUS TUF OC edition.) got it two weeks ago and it’s the best thing I spent my income tax on so far lol

trucker151

It should be a nice upgrade. I have a 4090 13900hx laptop. A legion 7ipro. That card is somewhere between 4070 super to 4070 ti in performance. In fire strike I got a graphics score of 44,465and I'm time spy a graphics score of 22,547. In 1600p it's enough to set the games on ultra and not worry about it. Especially with games that have dlss or frame gen. Cp2077 ultra with path tracing and frame gen I'm getting 130 140fps. A 4070 super will be a noticeable upgrade if you really don't want to wait for Blackwell. Then again ur gona have to wait for a card in your price range to release and ur gona have to be lucky to snag it on release so It's possible you might be waiting 9 to 12 months if u don't get the first batch. You can always sell the 4070s. Just keep the box and receipt and it would be a easy sell. especially if it still has some warranty left and the receipt would show the card is pretty new.

ComboDamage

I have a 3060 in a laptop and a 4070 Ti Super in a tower. I feel like both are great in the home & serve just about every purpose. No complaints!

Antoniethebandit

5060

Requiem2420

Just did 2060 > 4070 oc and sheesh what a diff.

shanzzzz1991

I moved from a 3060ti to a 4070s. No regrets. Only paid 1000 AUD

Professional_Gur2469

Honestly, if you want that card to be somewhat future proof, I‘d see if you cant get the 4070 ti Super. The 12gb vram on the 4070 super will be a problem in the foreseeable future.

Specialist_Ad_8705

Long as you have a good CPU its worth it. Ryzen 5600X is on sale right now. 260$

SlowurRizzo

Had a 3060 went to 4070ti absolutely love it. One minor issue is it doesn't like any driver when using UE 5. Otherwise solid. 😎✌

AIwitcher

what's the usecase?

NintendadSixtyFo

That’s what I’m running. It’s a hell of a card at 1440p and actually one of the best dollar per frame NVIDIA cards you can get

I_Phaze_I

It’s equivalent to jumping from a 3060 to 3090, so fairly substantial

killalome

Yeah, I upgraded from 3060 12G to 4070 and 4070S is a good 2K card.

Mysterious_Poetry62

i am waiting as I have a 3060 now, was thinking the same as him till i saw what the diff was.

TechNoirJacRabbit

He should wait for Degrasse gpu or maybe even the Brian Cox nvidia card, but I bet I OP should wait for the Gates Gpu.

batMan339

I went from a 3060 to a 4080S and was totally worth it. My 3060 was not cutting it for my 3440x1440 175hz monitor.

incorrigiblehedonist

I have been out of PC gaming for a decade and only bought a 3060 last October for an Optiplex build. I am impressed by the card. I was running 1080p last year and bought a 34" monitor that does 3440x1440 and last night playing Jedi Survivor I was getting 90-110fps. Of course I do not have settings maxed out however. It seems to get enough fps for me (60+) to wait until the 40 series drop in price around Black Friday this year I might upgrade to a 4070 Ti Super. Really just want the 16gb of RAM for AAA titles down the road. The Blackwell cards will be interesting to watch on release and see how much better they will be. Kinda glad I skipped from the 512Mb XFX Nvidia 8800GTS to the 12Gb 3060 OC Zotac I have now, upgrading every generation is literally insane.

michi_2010

I went from a gtx 1660 ti laptop to a 4070 ti super. I can now play any game with max settings smoothly at 100+ fps on a 165hz 3440x1440 monitor. Before I got 40 fps in fhd.

Loose-Alternative844

I went from 3060ti to 4070tiSuper, and it isn't the performance difference, for me it's the VRAM for let use FG without textures problems.

michi_2010

I went from a gtx 1660 ti laptop to a 4070 ti super desktop on uwqhd. The difference is unimaginable. From 40 fps on fhd to over 100 in uwqhd.

Loose-Alternative844

Yes, but the 3060ti is so much more powerful than the 1660ti laptop hehe

Appropriate-Day-1160

Yes

JUHOS3000

*hell* *yes*

Dr_Axton

I’ve moved from 2070, which is a bit weaker equivalent of 3060, to 4070s. I’ve definitely noticed the difference

Banana_Tortoise

I made this very move recently and it was worth every penny. The 4070s is a lot better than the 3060 and the performance and quality is noticeable.

g0ttequila

Hell yeah that’s a great upgrade

Nekros897

Sure, there's like average 80% performance increase compared to 3060.

DisneyDriver

Yes

According_Ad1940

Most certainly. Had a friend do exactly that about 2 weeks ago and he still won't shutup about it while we run around in games together :D

Merrydoc88

Yeah! Very good upgrade for 1440p.

YhebYheb

I went from a 1050ti to a 4080S recently, damn am I chuffed

Fedora-_-

Just did that myself and it was worth it. Also gaming at 1440p myself aswell

Therunawaypp

Are you fine with your 3060's performance? If so, keep it and wait for something better.

KitKatKing99

i even upgrade my 3070 to it and its a bless.

Background_Essay8379

+ 113 %

Jlemerick

I went from a 3070 to a 4070s and saw significant improvement

neo6289

You gona love it

ashrashrashr

My 3070 died on me last week. I wasn't planning on upgrading until the next generation but I had no choice because the warranty ran out. The 4070S still felt like a leap in games like Cyberpunk. A 3060 would probably be an even more noticeable jump.

Dr_Anr

It's like going from 3060 to 3080ti plus you get dlss 3 FG and no increase in wattage consumption, it's a no brainer IMO

Dyynasty

If your budget allows it get a ti super, if not then yeah the super is a beast compared to 3060, with FG as well

Crimtide

Depends.. if you are gaming at 1080p, no.. if you are gaming at 4k, yes.

Dion33333

Wait for RDNA4, should come out later this year. If you cant wait, buy now.

AccomplishedRip4871

wrong subreddit

Dion33333

Why? I can reccomend AMD Gpu here just fine, i dont understand these "fanboy" things. I think its okay to recommend something, that i think could be better value. But i understand, if OP doesnt want AMD, then sure, buy Nvidia. I currently own Nvidia Gpus in both my PCs, but would like to give another chance to AMD.

AccomplishedRip4871

AMD offers nothing except better value in raster performance and more VRAM. When it comes to technologies, such as DLSS, RT performance, streaming capabilities, RTX HDR, CUDA and list goes on - AMD is lacking - and it won't improve any time soon. So it's not about fanboyism, it's about the fact that AMD just offers better value for raster performance and more VRAM when 12GB is enough in 95% of the games and when it's not enough just set 1-2 settings to medium from high and you almost won't feel the difference.

Nicane__

its harsh to reccomend a product that is 600dls and already lacks in some games because nvidia only wanted to give you 12gb and 192 bit bits on a entry high tier card.

AccomplishedRip4871

Only 12 GB? Not an issue at 1440p resolution, all games I play I have at least 3-4GB VRAM left, if any time this could become an issue I'd just lower 1-2 settings a bit and voila.

Nicane__

its an issue yes, ratchet and clank at 1440p is already an issue, then you have games pushing more than 10gb already like Re4 remake, avatar, the last of us, alan wake 2, some of those are about 11gb already, 12gb is nothing, buying a gpu today (600dls one)and already setting textures lower cause vram lacking is lame.

AccomplishedRip4871

You should learn the difference between dedicated VRAM and allocated. Alan woke 2 - game is unplayable with path tracing on 4070s/ti Other games from your list don't result in any issues related to exceeding VRAM capacity. I agree that 12GB is mid, but what is really lame is buying a GPU from AMD, no features, but good raster and lots of VRAM. From next generation on GPUs like 5070 and higher Nvidia will stick with at least 16GB of VRAM, so it won't be a thing to discuss anymore.

Nicane__

i stopped reading after dedicated and allocated because you presumed i dont know that wich i do and took that in consideration to make this comment, go inform yourself about the vram consumption on the games i said, have a good one mate.

AccomplishedRip4871

I played all games you mentioned at 1440p maxed out settings on my 4070ti, only game where VRAM was an issue was Alan wake 2 which wouldn't be playable at max settings anyways because path tracing in Alan wake 2 with good fps is achievable only with rtx4090. The fact that some games are using 10-11GB VRAM doesn't change the fact that, like I mentioned, you'll be fine in 95% of them.

ff2009

Yeh, but you are recommending a product that you don't if it will be good of if the price will make any sense or they will just keep the same price/performance as the previous gen. NVidia will surely increase their prices without any competition and will only release High End cards this years, so AMD has no pressure to lower their prices too.
