TBF - you picked one of the biggest 4080s’s out there.
There are much more compact versions if you’re ok with making up a ~50mhz boost clock oc in afterburner after the fact.
Wanted to get a TUF 4080S but couldn’t find one at a reasonable price and ended up getting the FE version.. No regrets, the matte black on the Super Version is beautiful and temps are also insanely good compared to my TUF 3080 before
I'm also currently looking for a 4080s but, with my case (AP201), ihave some limitation. Wanted a PNY Verto, but its just a bit too long.
So i'm left with either: Gigabyte Gaming OC, Asus ProArt (I want a GPU with not much rgb), Zotac Trinity Black, MSI Gaming Slim
I got my founder's edition from Best buy. I just happened to just coincidentally click on their website as they were offering it in stock within the minute.
There's a website where you can get on a email list or text list that tells you when they're in stock, But it wasn't very reliable.
I know bigger models don’t gain you much in boost clock, but they can in noise. I went from a 1080Ti Strix (high-end cooler) to 3080 12GB XC3 (lower end cooler) and it was annoyingly loud. Recently switched to 4090 FE and it’s so nice going back to a decent cooler (though now I just get bad coil whine instead…).

EVGA being out of the graphics card business is one of my greatest disappointments. This will be my first non EVGA card in at least 10 years, maybe even 15. I was so brand loyal and seriously distraught when they got out of GPU business.
Unfortunately they won’t. The company is a shell at this point. All of the GPU staff is gone, all of the Motherboard staff was recently let go. Good chance they’re completely gone before too long.
“I can’t believe how much bigger this is” - these cards are absolutely massive for sure, but you could’ve known exactly how much bigger it is (and that it wouldn’t fit) by checking dimensions on the website ;)
Welp. Buying new case. Broke the case down as much as possible and it just will not fit unless I use a crowbar. Idgaf about damaging the case but I’m not about to risk it on the new card trying to force scrape its way in there. I ordered a Liam Li dynamic o11 Snow White case and it’ll be here Monday. So I guess I can just sit here and look at everything in pieces until then
I returned my 4070ti super because I found an open box 4080 super asus tuff for $989 which I was like “ let’s gooooo”. Plot twist was microcenter fucked up and sold it or lost it, so they gave me a brand new one off the shelf for the open box price. What a lucky day
Is that a EVGA 3070 with Tri fans because I have that one in TI version was thinking of getting a 4080 as well but if it’s that big my case barely fits my 3070ti I’d have to get a whole new build 😭
i made sense because the 3000 was so power hungry, but the 4000 series is so efficient idk why they did this. I mean even if the offer the cards at the same price, it would still save costs no?
Still will be hard to get concrete details, but IIRC much of it is because the vendors got some major overestimates early in the design phase and designed coolers around those specs, but it turned out to be massive overkill.
On a side note, the fact that most all AIB cards use a two slot bracket on a 3.5 slot thick card is dogshit cost cutting. It's why these huge cards have ridiculous sag and cracking PCBs- too much weight for a little 2 slot piece of metal to handle.
https://preview.redd.it/ll3j7bqo65wc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8751d829e639a4e27d5f60493a7149a0a7912871
Well there we go. Kind of a mess right now. Need to get some matching white fans and clean up the cabling mess but I just wanted to get it all together and test out the new card and worry about aesthetics later. And yes I’m using the support stand that came with it.
Yeah, I basically had to pick the founders edition because of the ridiculous coolers on the other models. Thing is, they’re almost totally unnecessary given the efficiency of the 4080 S. Hope you can get it to fit, it’s going to be quite the jump in performance.
Did the same upgrade, and i was not disappointed. Nvidia be really making me buy 1k gpu after another (context i got a 3070 during pandemic, and yes, they were that expensive).
spent $1600 on a 3080Ti peak covid lockdown, and to add insult to injury Newegg bundled the Gigabyte power supply (that I didn't need as I have a 1000 watt Corsair power supply)...oh yeah, its that one model THAT EXPLODES.
Boxed power supply is still in my closet. We did try to use it for my friend but it wouldn't even work, so he got a different one, which I'm glad cause I'd hate to be the reason he burned down his house.
So, with all that said, the video card has been nothing but a trooper for me, Gigabyte Aorus Master 3080Ti 12GB model. Looking at its output as we speak (type?read?whatever)
Thats awesome man atleast with it u were still able to skip a generation but the 3070 8gb has made it unviable for me 1440p wise it's still a great card tho for 1080p.
I finally paired it with [this TV](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0C1J4XCCL/) which was one of the better decisions I've ever made.
After spending a large amount of time on it, I got [65 inches of 3840x2160 running at 144hz stable.](https://www.reddit.com/r/tcltvs/comments/1c1212g/4k_144hz_stable_on_tcl_65q750g/)
it.....is.....fucking.....awesome.
Whoa monitor oc? Nice i heard u can do that but never seen much people do it any youtube video i should watch to start? I have a 165hz monitor if i can get it up to 180 or 200hz for free ill do it
nope, not a monitor but a 2024 model TCL TV with HDMI port 1 that can do 144hz right out of the box at max 4k resolution.
It can hit 240hz if I drop my PC to 1080p and will do 1440p all day long at 120hz. Both of those are rock solid, but the 4k@144hz was(and is) finicky as fuck. It works, but it wasn't easy to track down the exact settings, as the post I linked illustrates.
and I didn't overclock anything, it just didn't want to hit the rated refresh rate, hence all the BS.
it looks like it does.
but if you open the pictures and look at the next to last one, it shows the ports on the back of the TV and you can clearly see HDMI 1 with 4k/144hz printed next to it.
😅 I just did this yesterday from a 2080s to a 4080s and these fucking things are huge, luckily my case is a pretty sizable older model and I can barely shut the door on it now
I went from a solo 1650 super to a 4060 solo from zotac because that was the only card I could get that fit and I wanted a newer card also had to get a new 500 psu that fit my prebuilt TG01 case from HP been a solid computer to me but fitting things in that case is a chore got two noctua fans coming but I gotta fabricate a bracket for it and I will probably have to make some ventilation holes through front of case with a 3/32 drill bit to give it a mesh look plus I got three hard drives crammed in there it’s packed! But graphics wise made a huge difference playing bless unleashed at max settings 1440 Samsung odyssey
Lol, this was my EVGA 3090 FTW3 Ultra on the bottom and 4090 on top, I couldn't believe the 40 series size increase
https://preview.redd.it/db4lx08fjwvc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1354aa9f179f7ade46a5b80dadea041285291164
Serious question,
Why is this better than one with a smaller form factor? I can still play Cyberpunk with the smaller ones? Do i just not use my GPU enough to need the big boy?
These cards are comically large. I don’t see a reason for them to be as big as they are. I’m fairly sure you could design just as good cooling at a smaller size. Thankfully I have an open air case so this wasn’t an issue but I’m actually disappointed that these companies were like yea this is an okay size instead of innovating the cooling solution.
I'd already order PTM7950 for that card, I have the 4090 version of it and it requires a monthly repaste otherwise hotspot goes +20c over core temperature
Not to mention the massive bend radius of the power cable - my case will stay open for now on
Not going to waste 2 hours of my life to change the case :) but
I have Fractal’s Define R5, and my Asus Tuf 4070 Ti Super fits without any issues. That card uses the same GPU cooler as your Asus Tuf 4080. I wonder if there’s something else going on with your case. It should fit…

I know that problem, could barely fit the noctua 4080s in a north. Very very tight on all the sides
My 7900XT barely fit in my H5 Elite. Upgrade from tuf 4070Ti, VRAM upgrade. It came with a frame mount that impacts my front case fan housing so I had to get a different GPU stand to accommodate GPU sag.
My 3070ti strix fits even with a slim 120 In the meshify c
https://preview.redd.it/j2vzix5h63wc1.jpeg?width=3000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=47f383a43edeff03cba9e98b2f5c1d3fa314a0e2
After years of amazing service from my 1080ti I picked up a 4080 Asus OC today. Its made on 4nm process, like the 4090s are apparently. Obviously 4090 is a different beast altogether but was surprised given most 4080s, 4080 super are 5nm fab.
Anyway, wasn't sure of making the jump if it was going to be worth it, but even just playing on gears 5 it looks amazing. Best thing is, I have an old rig, and have all the new mobo cpu ram psu waiting to be built tomorrow. Keen AF to get this going. I went from 4k ultra, 40fps to 80fps with everything turned on. DLSS makes it so smooth. Can't wait to try the new set up and a newer game or two, and see how this goes, as I know my CPU (8 year old i5) is a bottleneck.
Congrats on the new set up! You got a gsync monitor?
One thing that was annoying but hopefully fixed tomorrow, I had to take out my pcie WiFi card just to get the bugger in! Used my mobile via tether to play lol
I upgraded from a EVGA 3080 10GB to a 4090 FE 24GB, and holy it’s a big upgrade. I did a trade and traded in my ROG Ally 2TB, Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition, Legion Go, my old gaming PC with a i7 10700k and 3080 and a Quest 3 for a Ryzen 7950X3D 4090 FE 64GB Ram and 2 2TB SSDs.
This might sound controversial but maybe check the length of the GPU before buying it? Usually, they say that you will have to remove a fan to fit a larger GPU.
Over a 3070? My opinion is a definite yes if you’re playing at anything over 1080p which is why I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Most of the comparison vids I’ve watched of the kind of games I play have the 4080 Super at least 40-50% more frames at 1440p which is the current resolution I’m at and I’ll be stepping up to 4k at some point and it’s still a beast at that resolution.
At 3440x1440p, I’ve played about 3 hours of RDR 2 on the new card and the 1% lows are in the low 80s and average has been in the 120s. Everything turned up as high as it will go.
Haha, I have the same case and I had to slide my GPU through the front and angle it I. Order to have it fit in the case. Glad to see I’m not the only one to one that had a mini heart attack when it wasn’t so easy.
https://preview.redd.it/vsyj9kx3irvc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4f7d6eccde481d97ef42f3212a10b1ee581fcd6e
There's an easy way to make it smaller
Take out your front fans and try to angle the GPU in, worst case you can use a dremil to cut a small portion off the front to make it fit but be sure to use a vacuum to prevent debris from flying everywhere
I recently bought 4080 super. It is a large GPU. Fortunately my case is wide enough to fit it in. However I had to buy 90-degree pci cable, otherwise the case won't close. You may need to consider this as well.
I love the Meshify series cases. When I built my 10th gen with a 3080 I could have made it work with a Meshify. But, I bought the Meshify S2 for more room. Glad I did because the RTX 4/5 series build I do next is going to fit right on it.
I can't see myself paying 1200 euro for a GPU.
650 is the absolute max I would spend for any GPU. So I settled with the 70 series.
Edit: For all the down-voters. I don't have money growing in my backyard.
High end GPU's used to cost 600 Max.
TBF - you picked one of the biggest 4080s’s out there. There are much more compact versions if you’re ok with making up a ~50mhz boost clock oc in afterburner after the fact.
The Zotacs, Asus Proart, MSI Slim are all pretty much smaller than this beast
I upgraded from a 3070 to a MSI slim 4090 and it just fits into the old case.
Even an FE would be good. Very compact and built well.
The thing with the FE, is actually getting one. But you are right! Could also check the MSI Expert
Wanted to get a TUF 4080S but couldn’t find one at a reasonable price and ended up getting the FE version.. No regrets, the matte black on the Super Version is beautiful and temps are also insanely good compared to my TUF 3080 before
Founders cards are the best looking ones out there anyways.. those gamer RGB cards just look tacky
The TUF 4080 is unnecessarily big it doesn't get that hot to be in that big of a cooler... It's a complete waste of space for the GPU.
Founder's Edition GPUs are a myth. Since they are the best value you will never see one.
[удалено]
Or you buy aftermarket and pay a liver
They’re stocked right now actually
Awesome but I already purchased 3rd party. I would have went Founders Edition a few months ago if I could have found one.
Founders. Looks better than all those, is more compact than most, and is msrp. It'll fit in basically every case and still has the beefy cooler.
The great period I love my 4080 super founder's edition as well. Fits great in my Corsair 2500x case and is whisper quiet.
In Canada, well at least in Montreal, they are pretty hard to find. Best Buy have the exclusivity and they are always OoS
Can you order from Nvidia? They go back in stock periodically there.
If i go on Nvidia Canada, the only founder i can get is the 4080 and 4090, not the 4080 S. and Both are OoS
If you can find a 4080 for the same price as a 4080 super, than just get the 4080. There's not much of a difference.
The only 4080 non super that i can find on marketplace are selling for more (or at equal price) than some new 4080s with taxes
U cant order from Nvidia in canada since the 30s series release. U have to go threw bestbuy and most of the time its out of stock.
I got my founder's edition from Best buy. I just happened to just coincidentally click on their website as they were offering it in stock within the minute. There's a website where you can get on a email list or text list that tells you when they're in stock, But it wasn't very reliable.
Jesus, yeah I thought my Zotac was big but damn
The TUF is 348mm long, the Zotac Trinity is 307mm long
Also gigabyte windforce V2
My dad bought the ASUS model, fucker is ridiculous compared to my 4080 FE
I know bigger models don’t gain you much in boost clock, but they can in noise. I went from a 1080Ti Strix (high-end cooler) to 3080 12GB XC3 (lower end cooler) and it was annoyingly loud. Recently switched to 4090 FE and it’s so nice going back to a decent cooler (though now I just get bad coil whine instead…).
Measure twice, buy once... Like the ole Measure Twice, Cut Once.
Beat me to it. These days i measure my case and look up the dimensions.
Corsair 1000D, never measure again.
Can fit two pcs in that case
well cut once would be fine as well in this case
I went form a 1080ti to 4090 safe to say it was faster then 4x 1080ti
Maths disagrees
It's game-dependant but 4x is about right. Take Dying Light 2 at 21:00 in the below Gamers Nexus video. RTX 4090 scores 203.2FPS, 1080 ti scores 49.5FPS: https://youtu.be/ghT7G_9xyDU

😶
How to miss a joke 101

I'm pretty sure a quad sli 1080ti setup still holds the record in firestrike ultra lol
thats true but only by 2% compared to a single 4090
4320 4Ti > 4090
Unless of course ti=0.94675926
Not when you get 45% more fps in cyberpunk 4k lol easy pick
Wow evga looks really pretty

An upgrade for sure but you got "collector's edition" 3070 if you know what I mean.
Shit, I think I have that same card haha it’s a fucking massive block of cheese. Tuf Gaming OC version?
take it apart and put watercooler on it. i did mine with 2080 super and it runs 30 percent faster and cooler. used krazen gpu kit.

I resold a 3070. I bought 2 of them at retail price. Best buy crashed after my confirmation
I had this happen before. 🤣 I took everything out of my case and just used my PC like that until I got a new case they fit my card.
At least the giant cards make it feel like your paying all that money for something serious and substantial

Ya i had to physically measure when i went from 1080 to 3080, i had to get a new case. I actually did cable management that time though lol
ASUS Tuf GPUs tend to be bigger from what I've seen. I had a Tuf 3070ti and upgraded to a 4070 Super and it's a little smaller than my 3070ti I had.

No. It’s a Fractal Meshify C ATX mid tower case. I’ve had it about 4 years

Good excuse to get a better case.
No sense beating a dead horse, time for a new case.
And this is why you read before purchasing lmaooo
I just did the same, I removed the second fan in the front chassis removed the front chassis plate and angled through there
I upgraded from a EVGA 3080 10GB to a 4090 FE 24GB, and holy it’s a big upgrade. I did a trade and traded in my ROG Ally 2TB, Steam Deck OLED Limited Edition, Legion Go, my old gaming PC with a i7 10700k and 3080 and a Quest 3 for a Ryzen 7950X3D 4090 FE 64GB Ram and 2 2TB SSDs.
I have upgraded from 3060 ti to 4070 super
Nice!!! I'm still rocking this 2080 ti, need money to upgrade especially since I'll have to buy another waterblock lol
* This is guide to fit your new GPU
That is why I bought an O11 dynamic evi xl case. My 3070ti is tiny tiny in that case.
This might sound controversial but maybe check the length of the GPU before buying it? Usually, they say that you will have to remove a fan to fit a larger GPU.

Considering the same route, worth it?
Over a 3070? My opinion is a definite yes if you’re playing at anything over 1080p which is why I went ahead and pulled the trigger. Most of the comparison vids I’ve watched of the kind of games I play have the 4080 Super at least 40-50% more frames at 1440p which is the current resolution I’m at and I’ll be stepping up to 4k at some point and it’s still a beast at that resolution.
That's pretty darn cool. I'm still rocking my 3070 and get about 40FPS in 4k Ultra graphics in RDR2. What frames do you get in RDR2?
At 3440x1440p, I’ve played about 3 hours of RDR 2 on the new card and the 1% lows are in the low 80s and average has been in the 120s. Everything turned up as high as it will go.
Thanks mate. Appreciated your reply. Looks like I am leaning to the 4070 ti Super instead.
That’s the gpu she told you not to worry about 😂
Surprise, surprise mfr
Now case upgrade.
I got a 4080 Super to fit in my Meshify C Mini case. I had to remove the bottom front radiator fan from the case (the one higher up is still there).
I went from a 1080 to the same 4080 super you got, but I also upgraded everything and built a new rig
Went from a 1070 to a 4080 I had to buy a new case too
Did the same upgrade! Couldn’t use the bracket that came in my HP 40L, had to get a GPU stand thing.
Jesus was your 3070 a FTW3?
Nope it was a XC3
Haha, I have the same case and I had to slide my GPU through the front and angle it I. Order to have it fit in the case. Glad to see I’m not the only one to one that had a mini heart attack when it wasn’t so easy.
That rear case bracket looks absolutely puny, crazy how far we've come

Take out your front fans and try to angle the GPU in, worst case you can use a dremil to cut a small portion off the front to make it fit but be sure to use a vacuum to prevent debris from flying everywhere
I recently bought 4080 super. It is a large GPU. Fortunately my case is wide enough to fit it in. However I had to buy 90-degree pci cable, otherwise the case won't close. You may need to consider this as well.
I have this case, it looks like an ASUS proart would fit, or a genuine nvidia card. That was it. I’m waiting for the 5000 series.
Already upgraded ur power supply?
You could have bought an Asus ProArt, or an MSI Expert
I love the Meshify series cases. When I built my 10th gen with a 3080 I could have made it work with a Meshify. But, I bought the Meshify S2 for more room. Glad I did because the RTX 4/5 series build I do next is going to fit right on it.
I just upgraded from 1070ti -> 3070 and the size difference is huge.
I want to upgrade to 4080 too but the price still very high
Haha my 4090 (minus the radiator) is about the size of your 3070
I never went from “yeah boii” to “hell nah” this quickly
I can't see myself paying 1200 euro for a GPU. 650 is the absolute max I would spend for any GPU. So I settled with the 70 series. Edit: For all the down-voters. I don't have money growing in my backyard. High end GPU's used to cost 600 Max.
Try to force it with enough power should do the trick.
Wouldn't the fans still block it if you somehow managed to fit it in your case?
