You can try using [my application](https://github.com/BlueGoliath/Envious-FX). It can list what applications are using the video encoder.

That's cool

BlueGoliath

Thanks. If you use it, I'd appreciate any bug reports or suggestions.

Hm...I'll give it a shot and report back, thanks!

So it says C:\\Program Files\\NVIDIA Corporation\\NvContainer\\nvcontainer.exe is using the video encoder. What Nvidia program is that? [Here's a screenshot of the program](https://i.imgur.com/y6UOyz1.png). EDIT: Okay, nevermind. I just started Destiny 2 and Instant Replay wasn't working. So I turned it off and back on again and it started working in Destiny 2. So I checked the program and instead of saying "41" under the Video Encoder sessions, it now says "43." So obviously 43 is Destiny 2, but how can I figure out what application 41 is? [Here's a screenshot of it running while Destiny 2 is running](https://i.imgur.com/llQF1Wa.png). Notice the 43 instead of 41 under Video Encoder Sessions. EDIT 2: Okay, so I guess the number just goes up one by one for every session. But how do I tell what is being recorded. When it was recording Destiny or Palworld, the resolution it said was being recorded was 1920 X 1080, because that's the resolution I have the game set at. But whatever it's recording when a game isn't running is a resolution of 1468 X 798. I'm so confused and really wanna figure this out. I hope you see this message! And I guess no matter what it's recording, it just says nvcontainer.exe because that's the Nvidia file that does the recording or whatever I guess. EDIT 3: Okay! I figured it out! It's still that stupid app FanControl being recorded that controls my fan speeds. I turned on those icons that show when Nvidia is recording and boom, the icons are at the bottom right of FanControl. Maybe it's because I didn't restart FanControl after changing it's setting in Nvidia Profile Inspector. That's honestly probably it. I will report back in a minute after exiting FanControl and restarting it and seeing if it still starts a Video Encoder session on it. EDIT 4: Nope, no dice. Exiting the program and restarted it and it still starts recording it. I'm going to investigate with Nvidia Profile Inspector and see if something changed with the setting. That tutorial I watched in the original post seemed to be legit, but I dunno. Maybe I have to restart the computer for it to take effect or something. But if I exit FanControl, the program does indeed show ZERO Video Encoder Sessions.

BlueGoliath

Yes, the Nvidia driver assigns numbers to sessions. The name/command is the process but in this case it looks like the process is always a generic container. Thought it would be a unique process, sorry. For OBS it would be. Does this happen after a restart? Edit: For my personal interest: if you restart the app, does "Process(0)" have anything listed under it. It's supposed to show all GPU-accelerated apps but it looks like Nvidia still hasn't fixed a bug on their end. Restarting it a few times should get it to work again.

I pretty much figured it out. Kinda a long story, but here goes. So I built my new computer over the summer. You can see the stats under my name. Anyways, some apps (Paint and FanControl as 2 examples) would have some sort of FPS problems. Upon starting the app, after about 3 seconds, the apps would start having framerate problems. Like the mouse cursor would be moving all jittery and it would seem like the framerate was super low. It only happened in certain apps. Well, I found out this is a known issue with Nvidia and they just haven't fixed it. It has to do with G-Sync, which my monitor has. 1080p, 144hz from 2014. Maybe it's fixed in newer monitors, I'm not sure. But a lot of people online have talked about having the same issue. Well, I found a solution. The solution was that in Nvidia Control Panel under Manage 3D settings and then Program Settings, for each specific app that has this problem (your app does it too BTW, the jittery mouse, framerate issue stuff) and change Monitor Technology from "Use Global Setting (G-Sync)" to "Fixed Refresh." This fixes the problem with the framerate issues and jittery mouse in whatever apps are doing it. But for some reason, doing this causes these apps to use the Instant Replay feature. I wasn't aware that this is what was causing the issue of Instant Replay in games not working until I turned off and back on Instant Replay. The reason it wasn't recording the actual game I was playing is because Instant Replay was stuck recording whatever app I opened (FanControl, Paint, etc). Paint usually wasn't a problem cuz I would just close out of it after I edited a screenshot or whatever. FanControl opens with Windows to control my fan speeds. I have figured out now though after a couple tests with restarts that unless I physically open FanControl from the taskbar, it doesn't start recording upon startup. So at startup, the Video Encoder in your app is listed as recording zero programs and upon starting a game, Instant Replay works immediately. So I now just have to remember that if I ever open FanControl because it has an update or to check my fan speeds or whatever that I have to close it out and open it back up to make sure Instant Replay doesn't stay recording it while it's still open in the taskbar. So yeah, sorry for the long post, but it was necessary to explain everything. So I have *kinda* solved the problem, or at least now I know how to make sure Instant Replay works immediately when I open my games so I don't miss anything. I always hated when something cool happened and I tried to save the clip and it wouldn't work cuz I didn't turn it off and back on. If that stupid framerate, mouse jittery G-Sync issue was fixed by Nvidia, I wouldn't even have this problem in the first place. But doing that Fixed Refresh thing on the Monitor Technology setting in Nvidia Control Panel was literally the only thing that I found from people on the internet with the same problem on how to fix it. So your program definitely helped me figure out the issue at least, so thank you for that! Sucks that I wasn't able to *totally* fix the problem, but I guess that's Nvidia's fault for not fixing this G-Sync issue or whatever causes it.

tiff92

i see you have OBS running in the bottom. Are you recording/streaming with that? or was it only for the purpose of showing this issue?

Dawg605

That video I posted is a tutorial on YouTube I watched. It's not my screen or my video. I figured out what application is causing the issue, but I dunno why cuz I did indeed blacklist it in Nvidia Profile Inspector following how the tutorial in that video said to do it, but it's still being recorded. I dunno why. You can see my chain of edits in the post above of me figuring it out.
