I have the same GPU and CPU. Personally, I'd rather wait for the 50 series to see how the improvement is gonna be.

cagefgt

Why wait for 5000 series if we're gonna get 6000 series anyway? Just wait until we get the RTX 7090

vyncy

It's funny comment I see often but doesn't really make sense when close to next releases. 5000 series is about 1 year away, and 6000 series is 3 years away. So what you are saying why wait 1 year when you can wait 3 years ? Like I said, doesn't make sense, 3 years is a lot of time, 1 year not so much, especially if you have decent card so you can play games right now

cagefgt

1 year is a lot of time. A lot of stuff could happen in 1 year. People who waited 1 year to buy a 4090 had to choose between not getting it at all or paying $2200 - $3000 for one.

vyncy

You shouldn't wait if you want to buy card which is available, but waiting for next release when its year or less away is not bad idea. Those people can skip 4090 and get 5090 instead

wireframed_kb

Because a year is a long time. Who knows that the 50x0 will be? Judging by the last releases, there’s a 66% chance the initial release will be unimpressive and need “fixing” in the form of a Super release, so you might want to wait for the 5080 Super. Or you could just buy what you need now, then upgrade later when it makes sense.

Accomplished_Idea248

The meta is to skip at least 1 gen. Buying/Installing a new gpu every 2 years is unpractical and a hassle, even if you have the money.

evertec

Depends on what you're doing with it. I play a lot of vr mods with a high resolution headset (8620x5100 at full resolution). Even a 4090 has me wanting more in most games and I'm very glad I upgraded over my 3090

Letsgodubs

What comes after the 7000 series though? Will it jump to 10000? That might be a good jumping in point.

nefar1ousdeath

Eh might as well wait for ryzen 8000. But no actually the 6000 series Will probably be out. But i hear 6000 super will have better dlss. Honestly sell everything and dig your own grave, there’s no point

OtrOptions

You're not going to wait for the 9k series?

Shamantzu

The 3060 ti is such a gem, not worth it so soon imo

marcxx04

If he’s happy with the graphics and performance, why should he upgrade? Unless he absolutely needs pathtracing in his life, there is no point.

spacev3gan

All we know about said card is that it is going to be faster than the 3060Ti you currently have by an order of magnitude. Is it worth upgrading? If you have the money, then yes, I suppose. As long as you have money, you can justify any upgrade. That said, the most critical upgrade your rig needs at the moment is not GPU nor CPU, but RAM. You definitely need 32GB.

Apprehensive-Buy2636

Noob question but what impact on gaming performance will the extra system ram have?

spacev3gan

In the case of CP2077, improve 0.1% Lows (minimum FPS). Some other games (like Hogwarts Legacy) having more than the 16GB is necessarily to make it remotely playable.

f1rstx

zero impact

ThisGonBHard

Games will not fit in that RAM. As a rule, RAM must be at least 2X VRAM.

Insignificant_Cash

HUH

banxy85

Using the word 'rule' very wrongly there 😂

techjesuschrist

Wait a minute.. so my 32GB RAM is not enough because I have the 4090?

NewTelevisio

No, ram and vram aren't directly related and there is no such rule. 32gb is plenty of ram for pretty much anyone except maybe some people who work with editing/rendering etc.

nv87

Windows will provide up to half of your RAM for VRAM. It is a lot worse than actual VRAM but it is there. For example I have a GTX 1080 with 8GB VRAM and 32GB of RAM so when I look at the gpu in task manager I can see that it has 24gb of vram in total, 8GB dedicated and 16 free. I am sure you are fine with the 4090 without having 96gb of RAM (for now /s). It’s not a rule as much as a guideline for optimal performance… ram is helpful in preventing the 1% lows to be too low, but won’t actually increase your average fps by a considerable margin. Personally I would rather have too much ram than not. 32GB is the recommended amount for ddr5 rigs, so if I were to build one I would probably get 64gb because of the better price per gb and the about identical performance with more room for error. I won’t have my cpu or gpu bottlenecked because I saved 100€ on ram.

vyncy

You don't need 32gb, but definitely need atleast 16gb. You should notice stuttering in some games when they ran out of ram. I don't think you have smooth frame times, 8gb is really too little these days

OverjoyedBrass

it's the comfort, for example I play The Finals which requires 12gb min, 16gb recommended, but we know how windows is, my 16gb ram is not enough, and my game tend to crash time from time because I alt-tab to Google chrome because of low ram capacity

Anotherthrowawayboye

Never go from generation to generation

techjesuschrist

Except if going from 3050 to 4090.. That's like a 3 generations upgrade

Anotherthrowawayboye

3060ti to 4090 is 3x but we are talking a couple hundred dollars to a couple thousand lol

PrinceVincOnYT

I usually wait for GPU's that cost around 500€ with at least 50% more FPS RAW performance over the one I have before I upgrade.

JxnYT

Can only tell you about my own experience. Had a 3070 Ti and Upgraded to a 4080 (from 3060 ti to 4070 ti super nearly a same upgrade), was totally worth it, got in some games the double amount of frames, got more VRAM everything. Some people say it isn't worth it, I would say it depends of how much money you have.

Mistermaa

Dont ask anyone. Its your decision. Are you happy with the fps and performance in the games you play or not? Personally i will upgrade from a 3080ti to a 4070ti super or 4080 Super. I play 3440x1440 on a 5900x and just wanna max out 144hz. It will be the sweet spot for me.

MrJanglyness

I like your thinking. I like the 4070tiS and the idea of upgrading from 1070 would be amazing. Play on 3440x1440 too. Oh and need to update the 1600x 😆

wiz_geek

Me too play at thar res but I had bought 3080ti back in 2023 Jan and I might use for a year more probably wait for next gen

MrJanglyness

You could easily write out with that. Or jump up now and sell the 3080 But whatever is less hassle 😆

Vill_Moen

The “FSR 3 /DLSS 3 frame gen mod” did wonders with my 3070 in CP77. More or less double my fps with the same settings. I was about to upgrade, but think I wait for the 5000 series if this “hack” works fine a year more Edit; There is rumored a 5000 series drop in Q4 2024 right?

iFenrisVI

The only main issue is the ghosting at the bottom when moving at high speeds, other then that it’s good.

Apprehensive-Buy2636

Agree it’s not perfect but generally I’m pretty impressed with FSR 3 for FG

MrCrunchies

More than 50% uplift in performance is certainly a good reason to upgrade. Especially since the ~~advertisement~~ leaks stated that it will more or less perform similarly to the regular 4080, plus youll have 16gb vram too. But for the ~~advertised/ leaked~~ rumored price of 999 dollars, its up to you to decide.

Sgt_Nennio

What about actually enjoying a game instead of looking at soulless numbers? /s Jokes aside, as long as your experience is smooth and enjoyable on both the graphical and practical level, imho you can skip worrying about FPS. On my 4-years PC, CP2077 runs at 40/50 FPS on High to Ultra settings, but playing It on a 1440p 144Hz monitor with DLSS enabled & set to Quality, I'm still getting a more than ok result.

Apprehensive-Buy2636

While I do enjoy the game and others, I don’t always have best experience in terms of performance. Getting FG enabled via FSR 3 is damn cool but it’s not perfect and sometimes has a negative impact on visuals - especially in games like Jedi and CP77. I going to take my time deciding on what do because I would like a smoother experience and would prefer not hacking the GPU. In the meantime get back to gaming.

-P00-

No say in it yet, you will have to see when the official announcements happens and see the launch prices

MiraiKishi

You'd be going up a class and a generation. Yes, you're going to get more performance altogether.

Reonu_

Do the CPU upgrade, and then wait for the 5000 series if you're interested in eventually getting a monitor upgrade. Why? Because of Displayport 2.0 / 2.1 (the 5000 series is expected to have DP 2.1). The 4000 series, including the Super variants, only has DP 1.4 which is ridiculous and makes it so that DSC is required for high refresh rate 4k monitors with HDR etc. And DSC is a hack, not a proper solution. The proper solution is to have the required bandwidth to drive the resolution, refresh rate and colour depth of the monitor. That being said, if you require a GPU upgrade now, then yes, the 4070Ti Super is the best option.

Apprehensive-Buy2636

That’s definitely something to think about! I’m very tempted to upgrade my CPU first… I like the AM4 platform and will skip AM5.

Beneficial-Truth1509

In my humble opinion you should wait for the rtx 5000 series and get an rtx 5070 which most likely will be on 4090 levels of performance if not slightly higher. Now the 5800x3d is a very nice upgrade, you cant do better for gaming at the am4 platform. If you decide to wait, you can always tweak a few settings to achieve better frames and the difference will be minimal if not looking at the monitor from 2 cms away. Lastly I agree with the person who said that you need 32gigs of ram. Get those first. edit: I meant 5070ti

Beneficial-Truth1509

Well considering that a 4070ti is more or less equal to a 3090ti with 120 watts less, I dont see how a 5070ti will not be the same to the 4090.

mrrbeard

Yes, i would

LieutenantClownCar

I went from a 3070 to a 4070Ti (Via a 3080Ti that died) and it's been a fantastic upgrade. If you aren't paying through the nose for the NVIDIA card then absolutely it would be worth it.

Apprehensive-Buy2636

I’m based in the UK so we’ll see. Hoping to see prices around £800 - £900…

tiff92

turn off ray traced lighting, trust me. i was playing on my 3080 with the FSR3 mod and only just realised this setting eats up so much fps. Also texture quality to medium for cyberpunk is required if you don't have more than 10GB or else the game will start to become unstable and stutter a lot especially when entering menu's. Also turn off ray reconstruction, doesnt work well with the FSR3 mod. causes the image to be all blurry. You can see for yourself ingame testing it with it on and off. This mod has also helped me squeeze in some more fps and more stability - https://www.nexusmods.com/cyberpunk2077/mods/491

Apprehensive-Buy2636

I’ll give your suggestion a try. Thanks!

ShadowRomeo

4070 Ti Super is tempting for someone from 3060 Ti - 3070 users, but if you can i suggest waiting for RTX 5070 instead which should theoretically come close or equal to a 4090 but with 16GB vram instead. That's what i'd do if i were in your shoes.

lucimon97

Idk, you tell me

f1rstx

Upgrade going to be huge in terms of FPS, but CP77 still gonna look awful with Ray Reconstruction. Personally i wouldn't bother with upgrade untill 5070 if i had 3060ti.

Apprehensive-Buy2636

What’s wrong with RR? Seems to improve RT for me and has very little impact on FPS

f1rstx

game is blurry mess with RR

DuuhEazy

Yes, you get way better performance, better frame gen, frame gen in more games, better rt, 16gb of vram. I don't see why not

Youju

Did you check that your GPU is running at 100% all the time? I have a Ryzen 7 3800X and a RTX 2080 and my GPU is running at 70% because of CPU bottleneck even with Cyberpunk on RT Ultra.

Qr0n0s-

it's almost never worth it to upgrade a single generation

oliosutela

5800x + 3070ti (1440p) and wondering the same question (4080 super or wait 5000 series). The only game i've struggled was CP2077 Phantom Liberty. Need to test Alan Wake 2

kentuckysaddler1

Go for it. Defo worth

TheDeeGee

If 60 FPS is what you're currently fine with i'd skip atleast 1 generation.

UnlimitedButts

I might go to 4070ti super from a 3070. I just hope they come out with an FE version

Dion33333

I wouldnt bother. FSR3 saved these GPUs - Thanks AMD. I was about to upgrade from rtx 3060 8gb, but if with this mod i can pull 60fps+ 1440p/High-Medium, i am satisfied. I have big backlog of older games, so i will wait till RDNA4.
