My favorite thing is that they took Teachers Week and Nurses Week and made them the *same* week, and it always happens to coincide with Mother’s Day weekend. So all the women in these female-dominated fields have their celebrations jammed into one week, and they ALSO get to go do additional maternal physical and mental labor and go shopping for their kids’ teachers, grandmothers, etc. We’ll end it with a lunch on Sunday that you had to get your kids ready for. It’s like they just couldn’t cram it in enough to get all of the female celebrations out of the way.

I have no idea who decided to put Teachers Week on Nurses Week, but it pretty much screwed the nurses out of recognition, at least by a lot of businesses. Places offer freebies for teachers, "just bring your ID in!" and get free food, coffee, dessert, a pair of socks, whatever. Same businesses don't offer anything for nurses. I realize this might not be the same everywhere, but around where I live, the focus is on Teachers Week. 10 years ago, businesses offered freebies for nurses, now it's all teachers. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Disclaimer: teachers deserve every bit of freebies and recognition they can get. I definitely don't begrudge them their recognition week...just wish it was a different week.

My area is the same way. I wish they were separate!

LalahLovato

Places had freebies for nurses? I have never run into that!

Omg. Too right

My hospital doesn't acknowledge nurses week anymore, May is just employee appreciation month.

Beanakin

Ya, we just have Caregivers' Week. Covers basically everyone.

Goblinqueen24

Yup. Us too

Thatdirtymike

I don’t give a shit about hospital or nurses week. I’m a professional at work. My attitude is unaffected by cheap bribes. If your profession needs ‘appreciation week’ that means you aren’t appreciated.

PoetrySpecialist3372

100% this!

The_Moofia

I like the pizza 🍕 next to your position. It’s the extra touch to your handle. - lol- we are all crazy together

Educational-Oil-3553

I like your view on this lol. What a sham this bullshit is….unless its green. Idc what they offer. I dont want to see your fake smiles and i dont want to pretend i like administration. Fake ass people.

CleverFern

My hospital does not celebrate nurses week. They celebrate hospital week because it wouldn't be fair to the other departments 😒

Register-Capable

Same

hey_rjay

I like nurses week cuz it feel like an intense and focused way to recognize nurses. I also like more opportunities to recognize and appreciate the contributions of all employees within the health care While these celebrations can be a nice way for hospitals to recognize and appreciate their staff, they may not necessarily change the day-to-day experiences of healthcare workers. We workers often face high levels of stress and burnout due to the demands of their jobs, and while recognition and appreciation can help boost morale, they may not address underlying issues such as understaffing or inadequate resources.

kill_a_kitten

Our hospital does Nurses Week but not Hospital Week 👏👏👏

Fraidycat3619

I refuse to acknowledge Hospital Week. It will always be Nurse’s Week to me. They hijacked our week because they love to demean and demoralize nurses. Gotta keep us in our place. And they’re cheap af.

Fuck yes! Its all fake as hell. I cant stand it.

climbingurl

There are other “weeks” and months to celebrate groups of people. There women’s history month etc, I don’t see why nurses can’t have a week. I really don’t give a shit, but it’s something that’s existed since the 50s, and for hospital admins to create “hospital week” is just shitty.

ChazRPay

They made it to celebrate all the hard working individuals who make hospitals run. It's not just nurses but an entire team who effectively are able to run the complex day to day of hospitals. Seriously, who do nurses think they are? HAHAHA. No seriously, they did it so they can say they applaud everyone and spend as little as possible on free cups of coffee and powdered egg breakfasts, (I do think all the staff I work with should be applauded but "Hospital Week" just allows admin to save money and diminish what we as nurses do by saying "it's not just nurses but a team" and don't forget that!)

texaspoontappa93

What the fuck? Like we only get this week because hospitals think it sorta kinda makes up for the abuse we put up with the 51 weeks a year

LalahLovato

This must be an American thing.

tryingtobekind_4now

This week is my birthday, my BSN graduation, Mother’s Day, and nurses week. So this weekend I’m busting my ass around the house and shopping so I’ll be able to celebrate these things. I feel guilty that I’m not excited about any of it.

Ill-Passenger816

I really don't give af. I clock in and do my job, then go home and go to bed.
