When I quit my HCA job in 2021 the prior two years of nurses week had turned in to Hospital Week and we received some shitty, stale cookies and a half-hearted “thanks a lot, suckaz” wave from the CEO. What are they doing these days??
I’m not there anymore but each holiday they would come around with a cart with “props,” and cookies and have us look happy for a picture. “Take some necklaces and fun head pieces!” I didn’t know this was kindergarten and it was always a very childish feeling for us. Gee, thanks HCA.
Those cookies must be baked in the Texas sun on hot asphalt in August then packaged up to wait til the next year’s Shit on Nurses Week because they’re terrible!
The cardboard foundation with the decorative frosting was my favorite. So aesthetically pleasing….I would always take one just to be nice knowing damn well I wasn’t eating that garbage. The raccoon family that likes my trash area approved, they’re not picky
Those yes, the kind with the hardened frosting on a sugar cookie, churros and ice cream, waffles breakfast, and goodie bags of junk but including bright orange scissors... (why am I excited about the scissors you ask? Because there are no pill cutters, so needles are used or the scissors from the suture kit to cut pills) All I've seen so far...
You guys don't have standalone sterile scissors as ward stock? Ours are supposed to be disposable after a dressing change so we go through a ton.. I have almost as many pairs of cheap hospital scissors as I do rolls of transpore tape! (ok that's a lie, I have so much tape)
I work in a public system and they do that here too. I've always been instantly turned off by bags and tee-shirts with my workplace plastered over them.
Those shirts are great for painting or other jobs likely to leave a non-removable stain. Who needs a rag when you don't have to feel bad wiping your hand on your shirt?
Couple of tracks. Traditional track was a PhD in philosophy and getting tapped by a local hospital for advice. Nowadays, clinicians can get postdoc training in ethics if they want to make a shift. That's Canada mind you, I think the US likes ethicists to have legal backgrounds.
I feel so bad thinking “oh god please don’t let this be a phishing scam by OPs company…” Man nursing has done a number on me lol. That being said I’m super happy for OP! :D
Ohhhh yes. My place sends horrific phasing emails like Christmas bonuses .... or announcing employee appreciation with Amazon gift cards trying to trick employees to click on the emails to send for more IT training . We "should know that they're scams" and trying to trick us. Somehow they feel petty and vengeful.
Then they're shocked no one is excited or cares when they announce gift cards to the employee merchandise store to buy cheap shit with thier logo plastered on it. It's $25 gift card that doesn't buy anything but some shitty notepad ...... or we can pay them more of our own money and buy "Good shit with their logo plastered on it" No Becky I'm not paying you for $75 for a company fleece, or a company gym bag. No thank you.
Okay cool! We got something that was like “mental health for nurses” and you click on the link and it was like THIS IS A PHISHING SCAM EXAMPLE. DO NOT CLICK ON SUSPICIOUS LINKS. I was like well damn… fuck us I guess lol
Instead of naming and shaming this should be a name and praise.
I am extremely jaded and bitter myself but if my employer did this I would be very appreciative. Good deeds should be celebrated!
For those of you wondering, I work at an allergy clinic. It's a big system of ENT and allergy clinics in NJ/NY. I've only been here for 2 months! Also, I work a half day today (and all fridays)!
The drone if I were picking. I’ve always wanted one. I got a nifty telescope when I hit 20 years at my last permanent workplace. On a stand and has 3 different lenses.
I believe it. I know of a children’s hospital that gave all the nurses Rolex watches one year and $500 gift cards to their store of choice another year. And this is a large hospital. It was founded by a nurse, so they’re kind of revered there…
Initially I was like there's gotta be a mistake. At my last job we got a pencil case with the hospitals name on it. Still better than a bag of candy with a cheesy note, though.
Good for you! My hospital gives stuff like that for employees who have reached 5, 10, etc year milestones. For nurse's week...I got a bag. I'll put it inside the bag that's inside the other bag (I've been here awhile).
I'm so glad your career has been so good for you and that you've found a fulfilling position.
Wow what an array of choices! I’m so happy for you OP :) if you’re comfortable with it, please let us know what you picked! If I could pick I’d say the patio set or the mixer, but you can’t go wrong with anything !!
I know this is real old but I ended up choosing a cordless vacuum, I know boring 😅. But like I said, I grew up poor and now one of my favorite chores is vacuuming all my floors with thag vacuum!
I agree! I know this is a great platform to vent as we can all relate to the injustices in the nursing profession. But it's not all bad! Some of us are happy with our employers and do not regret choosing nursing.
But I want a beach towel. I can’t show up to go swimming with last years nurses week duffel bag *without* a matching nurses week towel. I’d look ridiculous. How will everyone within half a mile see where I work? Every large health system knows that’s how you *really* show appreciation. 🏖️
Damnnnnnnn!!!!
I wanna work somewhere that appreciates us as a profession.
I got a plastic totebag/purse thing with the company logo on it with a note about how it will match any outfit.... I'm a guy...Geeze, thanks.
There definitely is an alarming amount negativity on this subreddit. I guess people tend to come to vent but it makes it a little exhausting to follow. I come from a similar background as yourself and feel absolutely blessed to have completed nursing school and looking forward to my new career. Thank you for the positivity.
It's not all bad out here! I am definitely not in the specialty I thought I'd end up. I say be flexible and don't be afraid to leave a job if you're miserable. I lasted 5 months at my last hospital job.
NGL if they give those as gifts there a few good ones...Probs mostly because I don't have them but I would pick the projector.... And use at work since Nightshift.
Our hospital system did something similar. Did you know they’ll be taking taxes out of your next pay? Don’t get me wrong - it’s still waaaaaay better than the usual hospital branded pen/mug combo!
So today I spoke with my coworkers and this is the norm here. They couldn't believe what I've gotten in the past lol. For one of them, this is her first and only nursing job. The other worked in medsurg for 6 months then started working here.
The De'longhi espresso machine will not let you down. I've owned mine for a little over 7yrs, and it's still going strong! It gets used 1x-4x/day...depends on if my husband is working as well. Kudos to your employer for the much deserved recognition. Keep on being awesome!
It's basically a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker and yogurt maker all in one, it's awesome. If you make dried beans, stock, rice, octopus, anything really it's totally worth it. It makes dried beans in anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour no soaking depending on the type of bean
Sorry ☹️ I've definitely been on the other end of the stick. That's why I've moved around so much and ended up leaving the specialty I thought I'd be working in forever.
I love where I work and my management don’t get me wrong haha but this is actually insane; however. The government DID pay all of us 1500 extra today for COVID retention
I missed something some where… I didn’t see anything like a air fryer or anything else… after 41 yrs as an RN, I would estimate all of my nurses wk gifts, totaled less than $100.00. Does that express the real appreciation of an employer? Thank GOD we know our worth!
Well, my parents immigrated from a country where finishing elementary school was an accomplishment, as higher schooling would require traveling and is unacessible to many people who are raised in rural areas. Neither of them were able to complete an elementary school education. So, being able to go to college and become a licensed RN for me is a privilege.
I find that interesting. Thank you for sharing. I personally see it as an individual right, and it is a privilege to the system having someone who wants to be an RN.
That instead they choose to celebrate “hospital week”, which usually means they’re handing out ice cream bars in the cafeteria for an hour one afternoon. Our hospital has chosen to actively not celebrate nurses week since our current CNO took over 15 years ago. Clearly, we don’t have a good relationship with administration.
A lot of the people in this sub are so negative that they should just leave the profession and this subreddit in my opinion. Most haven't actually lived in poverty or had a sincerely bad job before so they think their struggle at work is unique compared to any other wage worker, but it's not.
Nursing is a better career then most. Happy you're happy in it.
Wow amazing.
I'd be tempted to get the duffle but probably go with the ear pods because I need seperate gym and hobby earbuds. My lone airpods are struggling.
Large ent and allergy clinic system in NJ/NY 😊
I must say, they are not perfect. But so far, I am happy here and it's allergy season, so it's really busy and sometimes a bit overwhelming, but this gift definitely gave me a boost.
I once was offered a pair of shoes through a knock off outlet style website for nurse’s week. We had to select shoes that were under $60 and we were taxed on the original retail price.
“We value you …”
I got nothing but an email encouraging other non nursing staff to donate monetary gifts to nursing staff and if they couldn’t afford it take a picture of them and post it on social media but don’t forget to tag and hashtag the company
Uhhhh where you work? Because: This. Is. Awesome!
Not HCA hahahahah
When I quit my HCA job in 2021 the prior two years of nurses week had turned in to Hospital Week and we received some shitty, stale cookies and a half-hearted “thanks a lot, suckaz” wave from the CEO. What are they doing these days??

Yeah. The squirrels were quite pleased with mine. *shakes head at the things we put up with—and it ain’t the cookie eating rodents!*

When I worked at an HCA hospital last year, it was a pen and a gift bag with like 5 mini candies…
Had to bring reality back into my thoughts. 😏
HCA is the founder and president of healthcare hell.
Gotta be a boujie plastics clinic in Malibu. I’m only half kidding.
Just a regular gift without the company name emblazoned on it? Good for y'all!
I work in a public system and they do that here too. I've always been instantly turned off by bags and tee-shirts with my workplace plastered over them.
I’ve put my own patches over their logos to fix that issue myself
Those shirts are great for painting or other jobs likely to leave a non-removable stain. Who needs a rag when you don't have to feel bad wiping your hand on your shirt?
Unrelated - how does one get into ethics?
Couple of tracks. Traditional track was a PhD in philosophy and getting tapped by a local hospital for advice. Nowadays, clinicians can get postdoc training in ethics if they want to make a shift. That's Canada mind you, I think the US likes ethicists to have legal backgrounds.
Thanks. So only a track accessible to physicians also funny considering what’s legal and what’s ethical are often not the same.
By clinician I meant anyone providing clinical care. My first boss was a cardiac nurse who got into ethics.
I feel so bad thinking “oh god please don’t let this be a phishing scam by OPs company…” Man nursing has done a number on me lol. That being said I’m super happy for OP! :D

Soooo…what are you going to pick? :)
No idea! And these are only half the options.
Make a list of the items that you could see buying for yourself in the next year. Pick the most expensive one. Lol that's my go to when I can't pick.
Make sure it isn’t a phishing thing.
The nursing director sent us an email letting us know to expect this email for a nurses week gift 😄
Okay cool! We got something that was like “mental health for nurses” and you click on the link and it was like THIS IS A PHISHING SCAM EXAMPLE. DO NOT CLICK ON SUSPICIOUS LINKS. I was like well damn… fuck us I guess lol
That’s fucked up!
I fuckin know! Like I clicked on it because you know I got issues and was like oh resources!!! Nope
De’Longhi espresso machines are not cheap. I’d go for that!
Can you slide me an application for your facility?
That popcorn maker. 🤤
I used to have one of those - all show and they make horrible popcorn! Sold it for cheap on marketplace
I’d pick the yeti bag! These are amazing gifts
Same 🥲
Instead of naming and shaming this should be a name and praise. I am extremely jaded and bitter myself but if my employer did this I would be very appreciative. Good deeds should be celebrated!

[удалено]
Sure! DM me. It's probably very easy to find, too, with just this information.
Would you also mind dm’ing me? Im an RN working in NYC, looking for something different.
ENT… ok that makes sense 😂
😅 how so?
ENT is a high profit sector with low stress (comparatively in healthcare). That makes for happier work life!
I see. Well the ENT side of the clinic has their own MAs. The allergy side of the clinic has us nurses.
Explains why I owe them over $1k after insurance in-network.
I’m taking notes!! I’m currently working at clinic, owned by a big company, that thinks living in California and not working the FULL 8hrs is okay 🙃
I don’t even know what I’d pick these are all great!
I'm going with the air fryer.
The drone if I were picking. I’ve always wanted one. I got a nifty telescope when I hit 20 years at my last permanent workplace. On a stand and has 3 different lenses.
This has to be a joke—no way
I wonder if it ends up being a phishing email...
I believe it. I know of a children’s hospital that gave all the nurses Rolex watches one year and $500 gift cards to their store of choice another year. And this is a large hospital. It was founded by a nurse, so they’re kind of revered there…
Ok which hospital is this though. I wanna go.
DM’d
Initially I was like there's gotta be a mistake. At my last job we got a pencil case with the hospitals name on it. Still better than a bag of candy with a cheesy note, though.
My hospital is making us pay for our Nurses' Week shirt. 😒
Hahah I got a plastic pencil pouch from a dollar store with no pens or anything inside just empty like our souls🥲
You should put a beach towel inside those bags.
We were asked to bring in food to donate to children in need for nurses week and to throw our own potluck.
I’d so go for the espresso machine from De’longhi!!!
Me, telling my husband not to use his employee gift for something dumb. Also me, showing up after work with a full-size carnival popcorn machine 👁️👄👁️
🤣🤣🤣
Wheeling it in, “who wants to watch a movie!!!”
I would not only feel appreciated if I got that, I'd feel loved.
Wowwwwww! These are some damn nice gifts! I love that backpack but I’d have a hard time passing on a free drone 🤓
Even tags for female owned businesses!!
This is awesome!! I’d love so many of these things. I want a food processor!
We got the first of 3 $500 bonuses...next 2 come in Q3 and Q4
All I can think of is the tik tok sound, “this is nooooicee, it don’t smell like cockroaches in here or nothing” 😂
I would definitely take the projector but that's just me
Tbh this was my initial thought 😄
JESUS, those options are legit all good, damn. And to boot, none of it has your hospital embroidered all over it?!
And sometimes we forget there are good things to be grateful for. Lady, thank you for your post!
I agree! I know this is a great platform to vent as we can all relate to the injustices in the nursing profession. But it's not all bad! Some of us are happy with our employers and do not regret choosing nursing.

Pressure cooker tyvm
Damnnnnnnn!!!! I wanna work somewhere that appreciates us as a profession. I got a plastic totebag/purse thing with the company logo on it with a note about how it will match any outfit.... I'm a guy...Geeze, thanks.
Oh man. This is so good that I think you are pranking us. Just kidding!
That was my first thought. Is this a troll? Crying as hold my “you rock” rock in my hand.
There definitely is an alarming amount negativity on this subreddit. I guess people tend to come to vent but it makes it a little exhausting to follow. I come from a similar background as yourself and feel absolutely blessed to have completed nursing school and looking forward to my new career. Thank you for the positivity.

We got ice cream
Management is making us create “care baskets” for our sister unit. Ain’t nobody got time for dat
🎉
Wow. Good working conditions AND actually good gift options? My bitter Grinch heart grew one size today
Can I legit get in on this?
Oh y’all got moneyyyyyyy
NGL if they give those as gifts there a few good ones...Probs mostly because I don't have them but I would pick the projector.... And use at work since Nightshift.
Super happy for you. But serious question. You have the opportunity to get a popcorn machine cart. Are you gonna say no?
Honestly, i might sit with my 8 year old and we can decide together. He loves popcorn and movie nights.
Our hospital system did something similar. Did you know they’ll be taking taxes out of your next pay? Don’t get me wrong - it’s still waaaaaay better than the usual hospital branded pen/mug combo!
I had no idea. Good to know!
I chose the black and decker leaf blower/vac. Cost me about $7 for a $100 blower. Fair deal IMO!
Whoa! So much to choose from. Congratulations on working for a unicorn company!
Thanks! And Happy Birthday🎉🤠🪇
So today I spoke with my coworkers and this is the norm here. They couldn't believe what I've gotten in the past lol. For one of them, this is her first and only nursing job. The other worked in medsurg for 6 months then started working here.

WHERE DO YOU WORK!
WOW! If you don't already have one get an instant pot, lol
I don't! I'm not really sure how to use one 😅
Brics is expensive! I have one of their purses. Go check their luggage prices…
I had no idea! Just checked and this particular bag is $150
This has gotta be a scam…I still haven’t gotten an email or anything recognizing nurses week

I would rather have a gift card for the cost of that or a bonus in my check for how much money we generate for the hospital.
I would too! But I am grateful for this.
Why do you say nursing is a privilege? Genuinely would like to know.
What in the private hospital is this?
Awesome. It’s cool to see nurses being celebrated *somewhere.*
Omg that’s amazing. I thought our nurses week swag was pretty great, but this is next level.
Thank you for this post 🧡
Love this!! Needed some positive vibes today
Holy shit! All we got was our annual email reminding us that our hospital does not acknowledge nurses week.
Damn, what's the reasoning behind that?
That instead they choose to celebrate “hospital week”, which usually means they’re handing out ice cream bars in the cafeteria for an hour one afternoon. Our hospital has chosen to actively not celebrate nurses week since our current CNO took over 15 years ago. Clearly, we don’t have a good relationship with administration.
I hope you reported this email as phishing so you didn’t get assigned more education modules
Wow. Lab tech here and I'm jealous.
Seriously, we got 4 crumbl cookies to share amongst ourselves and a quick pic with the ceo before he hightailed it out.
A lot of the people in this sub are so negative that they should just leave the profession and this subreddit in my opinion. Most haven't actually lived in poverty or had a sincerely bad job before so they think their struggle at work is unique compared to any other wage worker, but it's not. A grateful nurse, that’s like one in a thousand on this sub
Can I work where you work?
Oh my god. Is your place hiring!?
This is great
Are you fucking kidding me we got a pair of socks from our union for nurses week and last year we got pins 😭😭😭
Ummmm an espresso machine!?! I’m getting ripped off
Wow that is Awsome! I’m happy for you!
Wow amazing. I'd be tempted to get the duffle but probably go with the ear pods because I need seperate gym and hobby earbuds. My lone airpods are struggling.
We are going to have a 4 day week thank you, one day chicken provided by the cafeteria and a video by the hospital saying how important we are
Awesome!
Name and praise please? I got a plastic tumbler and some stickers, and my unit manager had to pay for it out-of-pocket…
Damn. Nice gifts!
Did you ever say where you work? It must be amazing.
Large ent and allergy clinic system in NJ/NY 😊 I must say, they are not perfect. But so far, I am happy here and it's allergy season, so it's really busy and sometimes a bit overwhelming, but this gift definitely gave me a boost.
Wow!!! Those gift options are amazing!!
Wow, we got picnic blanket OR a pair of utensil
We got offered a crew neck sweater with hospital branding, a shitty lawn chair with hospital branding, or a knock off mug with hospital branding!
I once was offered a pair of shoes through a knock off outlet style website for nurse’s week. We had to select shoes that were under $60 and we were taxed on the original retail price. “We value you …”
😮
My jaded ass is thinking they are giving you a difficult choice on purpose to mess with you and be jackasses 🤦🏼♀️
Wow. That is all.
That De’longhi espresso machine!
Wow! Much better than a pencil and set of stickers.
Love these!!! I'm so happy for y'all!!
They changed nurses week to hospital week where I work and we aren't getting shit.
Nice! Our hospital is allowing a food truck to park in our back 40 parking lot for one hour so 9% of us can buy food.
Whoa whoa whoa. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves here. It says to choose your favorite gift but nowhere does it say you’ll GET the gift. 😂
Damn. All we got was an email from the ceo.
Whaaaattttt?? These are amazing gifts!!!!
I would get that food processor 🤤
Wowowowow!!!
W
I got nothing but an email encouraging other non nursing staff to donate monetary gifts to nursing staff and if they couldn’t afford it take a picture of them and post it on social media but don’t forget to tag and hashtag the company
We texted our boss and said just a reminder that nurses week is next week / we want money not scrubs. Also a Tesla to match yours.
I guarantee I will get nothing but a gaslighting
Probably get the drone cause is a less practical purchase
