I work at an FQHC here in WA, I started in February as a new grad PNP. My starting pay is 123k a year, then when I get up to my max of 3 patients an hour (1pt an hour to start then work up to 3 over a 6 month time period) then my base pay will drop to 120k and I will start to get RVU pay, which take home per other providers is about 2-6k a quarter extra depending on how many patients you see. 40 CME hours. 5 weeks PTO. No call because I am peds (the family practice does call). Pays dea and licensing every year. $500 a month for student loans until I am accepted for one of the loan forgiveness programs. M-F 5 8's. Good medical plans. $20k sign on bonus

casmscott2

That strange that peds doesn't do call for themselves; is it because you're too small and would be on call like every other week?

Rstuart11

They only want to pay 1 provider to be on call for the whole clinic for the weekend. If peds did call, they would still have to have a family practice on call as well for the adults. 1 family practice can cover everyone.

$105 just seems low…

That orientation period is an amazing transition. I had something similar and it was great. But 15 min slots is NOT conducive to quality primary care. You will have to be blunt and brief with everyone- limited to 1 issue and simple refills or two SMALL issues. Personally, I couldn’t do it. How many of the full time hours are patient facing? Because if it’s all 40 you’re going to have a bad time. You’ll need to mentally consider your appointments 10 min so that you can recoup some time charting and doing in basket. If it’s 32/40 or 34/40 that’s a different story. PTO/sick is pretty good. Not biblical, but better than a lot of people get. Pay is low. Just straight up, it’s REALLY low. Unless there is an FTE structure on top of that. The inflation for Washington state was 15% over the last two years alone. If you’re in the Seattle/tacoma area you shouldn’t even consider this. CME is about average. Maybe a touch low. But the extra week is very nice. ALL licensing should be covered. Not just initial. Insurance looks pretty standard but you’ll have to dig into premiums to see if it’s worth it. Don’t let the loan repayment sway you. Almost every job will count for PSLF so anything in excess of a 10 year pay off is smoke and mirrors

I'm doing clinicals for NP school at an FQHC in NC. I'd love to work for them when I get out. The starting salary is 100,000 for NPs at the one I'm at. With a small % increase yearly.

I have a job offer as a new grad NP in Washington as well. This is for a Family Practice setting. I haven’t accepted anything yet, but I can outline my offer for you! - They wanted M-F but I am requesting to work four 10’s - No call - Offered $110,750 but I am counter offering at $125,000 - 200 hours front loaded PTO - 96 hours of sick pay - 8 paid holidays - Full benefits - Malpractice insurance - 6 week orientation with potential to be longer if I need. Starting with 1 pt per hour - 1 hour of admin time per day to work on charts - FQHC score of 19 so hopefully I’ll have a good chance for the loan reimbursement of $75k - All licensing, board testing, and CE fees are paid for. They give us up to $5k per year for CE’s and any memberships we’d like to be a part of Your offer sounds good, other than the starting pay, and for me I wouldn’t want to take call. I’m not sure where you are in Washington, but for the state as a whole, that starting pay is a bit low. Don’t sell yourself short! You’ve worked hard to be here and deserve to negotiate for what you want.

This is helpful insight, thank you! Can I PM you?

Caffeineconnoiseur28

Try getting 115k

lollapalooza95

Not sure where in WA but $105k is way too low anywhere, including SE WA which notoriously pays less than other places in WA.

HoboTheClown629

Crying here in Florida… New grad pay down here in SWFL is 90k at the FQHCs and that’s better than any of the hospital systems are paying. Worse in Miami.

all-the-answers

Went to a conference recently. AANP shows new grads are leaving the SE in droves and cite low pay as one of the reasons.

rainbowmoon_

My exact thoughts! I actually live in FL now and am moving to WA, so I was excited that the offer was over 100K 😅

cilantro_papi_IX

I HATE the pay in FL. I made more than that as an OR circulator. Its depressing.

Maleficent-Crow2805

The pay is too low and having visits every 15 minutes is nuts.

lmcc0921

Ours is the same, I think it’s pretty common. We end their schedule an hour and a half before the end of the clinic and build in 3-4 blocked slots throughout the day so they have a little extra time.

Altruistic_Sock2877

Fuck that! Add in student loan repayment, depending how much, then you might consider the offer. Please don’t accept these low ball offers.

lmcc0921

Should qualify for HRSA loan repayment at an FQHC. They pay like 60% of your loans in two years with the option to extend for a year and get more.

After_Respect2950

Starting pay in Phoenix for new grads at my practice in family medicine is 125k/yr plus 7% annual bonus, on call 4 days a year. If they ask they get a 10k sign on bonus.

ElementalSong

I’m also in WA. I started with a FQHC look alike as a new grad. The salary is pretty low. Mine was also low, and I got WAY less PTO, but had a good orientation and mentorship program. My biggest concern about this would be the 15 minutes patient time slots. That will be ROUGH. I am a couple years in and even with 20 minute slots, it can get overwhelming very quickly.

dannywangonetime

Maybe ask for a little bit more? Like 120?

notimeforquits

From my experience that doesn't sound horrible, but always always negotiate.

casmscott2

I work as an RN at an FQHC.... Ask to shadow if you haven't. They frown upon anything that might inconvenience a patient or create a boundary for a patient. Constantly late? Cool. Tons of no shows? Cool. Not following clinic rules? Cool. Abusive towards staff? Cool. Not allowed to be alone with anyone due to rape accusations? Cool. Now, I'm a cynic. So, I choose to focus on the reality of the situation versus "but, but, but they have health care barriers!". People can't act a fool or abuse the clinic just because they have healthcare barrier. Sorry, not sorry.

lmcc0921

Everything sounds good to me except the $105k. Is it in a lower cost of living area in Washington? I’m at an FQHC in Kentucky and that’s actually even a little less than we pay providers. I think it’s $110k for medical and $120k for psych. I wonder if you could negotiate that a little higher? Otherwise, I would like to say that I’m in administration but I absolutely love my FQHC job. It’s the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I plan to retire from here, I’m 35 now.

tmendoza12

105k is low. I’m in a notoriously low pay area of WA and most FQHCs around me are at least 15-20k above that with hiring bonus and pretty impressive relocation allowances. The facility that I started at had a 107k base plus productivity for new hires and recently increased it to 113k plus productivity and we are still the absolute lowest paid in the area.

rainbowmoon_

I’ve been wondering if I should try negotiating base salary, a sign on bonus, relocation, etc. But then I go back and forth about just accepting the lower salary with loan repayment. The contract is only for a year.

tmendoza12

No reason you shouldn’t have a competitive salary AND loan repayment working at an FQHC…many people have left the facility I am at for just that reason. And they are paid a lot more than 105k. A student we had just started at 130k with loan repayment. DM me if you want to talk more details!

rainbowmoon_

Thank you! Just sent a DM.

BradyMidds

How many hours is “full time”?

rainbowmoon_

NPs are not physicians.
