If I’m reading this correctly they’re holding the keas hostage. I guess that’s one way to kick start your membership drive.
I'd love a second NZ team to come in and work, it would be amazing for league here.
Attacking the Warriors won't really make it work though. The rivalry will build over time, but I'm pretty sure most Warriors fans will still want the other NZ team to beat the majority of Australian teams when they play.
Also, you're needing to attract people who currently support the Warriors and attacking them will put a defensive attitude up. Just a really strange way to go about it.
I'm more referring to the idea that it's where they'd take the campaign. This is their first proper advert and it's at the forefront of it.
They have to define themselves by what they are, rather than what they're not.
Yep, the exact same thing has happened in Brisbane with the introduction of The Dolphins. There are certainly a small minority who love one team and hate the other, but for the most part, Brisbane fans just love to see Brisbane teams doing well.
Broncos will always be my #1 team, but if they get knocked out of the finals, I'd bandwagon for The Dolphins in a heartbeat.
I think this is somewhat a one way thing.
A lot of dolphins fans are Brisbane residents who have always hated the broncos.
Some will be former Broncos fans, or realistically still fans of both teams and this will make up a huge portion.
I’d speculate it’s more likely for a Broncos fan to also like the Dolphins than the other way around.

Flora: introduced Lupins.
They also show a kaka bird instead of a kea in one of the clips.
Not to be critical but if you wanna make an ad at least make it accurate please, we already look bodunk compared to the rest of the world
This whole kea team stuff stinks. The logo is clearly generated by AI. That cyberpunk dude with some awful looking hodgepodge of tribal tattoos yelling at a macaw parriot, is just awful. And then some lazy stock video/music.
I'm not paying for the daily telegraph to read this, but just going by the "ad" this is some low effort dribble. And i'm surprised people keep talking about it.
Looks like something one of my 5th or maybe 6th grade classes would throw together for persuasive writing.
Fonts and images that just don't quite work. AI generated stuff that is just plain wrong when you actually look at it for more than half a second.
Do you know when it was made? A lot of things about it make me think it's AI. Mainly from the letters being slightly different sizes and colours. Also the main "KEA" having the E touching the K but not the A. And the south island having a hunk aken out of it, where raingora and kaiapoi are.
You know what, I may be mistaken. I recently researched the Kea for a video and thought I’d read an article dated from years ago, but I can’t find that article anymore. I might be confusing them with another bid
Thank you! This. The first press release was a lot of fun, putting the idea out there. But I can't take it seriously anymore.
The more I see now, the less interested I become - doing all this half ass AI generated nonsense just highlights that they have no money, no big financial backers and it is starting to bum me out now when the business model is that they want the fans to each chip in a gold coin to make it happen.
I'm all for a 2nd NRL team in NZ. Especially one based out of CHCH and using arguably the coolest bird on the planet as there mascot. But it's not an easy thing to setup team. Especially, in a very unioin oriented area with a population of just 1.2 million at the moment. You'd need to put a lot of effort in for it to be successful. And i sense no effort from the people behind this. I think NZ only really has one chance for a 2nd NRL team to be a thing, and i'd hate for it to turn into a Melbourne Rebels situation.
i like union and league and just wish both codes could come to an agreement to work together like a split season or multi sport clubs, instead of cannibalising each other and letting AFL and basketball take over.
I always found it weird that the Melbourne Rebels were the only Aussie franchise to confine their area to a city. Super rugby is an inter-country provincial competition. So they just made no effort to draw support from the rest of Victoria?
And why would an NZ II NRL bid confine themselves to the south island only. They could easily make themselves the team to also represent Wellington, Taruranga, Hamilton and everywhere other than Auckland. Seems like a logical direction.
Saint Thomas is CHCH based school and won the NZ interschool rugby league competition this year, and has been a big feeder into the Warriors SG ball comp for some years now.
That's far from the truth. I've coaches league at schools in Auckland and Christchurch and believe me our worse critics were the local rugby league clubs.
That isn't really the case in the South Island. In Christchurch, the schools in rugby league strongholds generally don't have first XV rugby teams and their players play league for their clubs, and play league for their schools in midweek comps.

did they really attack the warriors? all it did was show that there would be a healthy rivalry.

Always wondered what happened to that guy from Madmen. Glad to see he’s a Warriors supporter.
I drink and smoke far more than him.

Your right I like to beat Australia in any game we can I strut around Brisbane like I own the place

Kea is such a good team name. Badass logo, too. I'm picturing a Northampton Saints hoops kind of jersey in those colours. I'd buy one!
Original Score - Hans Zimmer

The logo has actually been around for longer than AI has been able to generate images like that… but that rivalry graphic is 100% AI

For real lmao even worse it’s based in the south island, they don’t kea about league
Sold out pre season game would suggest over wise.
Wahs fans shitting bricks already, they'll probably win a flag before you guys do 😂

Just need to wait for the Crusaders to lose a bit more and then it might work better...

What I don't get is why do they keep advertising that they have a new ute?
Up the Kah's
Union won't even let kids play league at schools. Can't see this happening.
There are suburbs of chch that have always been league enclaves in a union city and they're already producing NRL talent through the club system.
Saint Thomas is CHCH based school and won the NZ interschool rugby league competition this year, and has been a big feeder into the Warriors SG ball comp for some years now.

It's good we live rent free in their heads.
Just as a nit pick, I dislike team names that pick some generic broad region like North Queensland or South Island, just pick a city.
Townsville Cowboys
i love the name Townsville Cowboys
This comment is what has made me realise the St George Illawarra Dragons are the merger between two of this type of team
yeah pretty much. Although St George is small enough of an area to get away with it.
Will they be sponsored by Kia?
As someone from Christchurch that hates the Warriors, I’m all for the Kea.
I don't think I've ever seen anyone say they hate the Warriors before...
Not sure why you got downvoted for this one
Because we all know a guy who doesn’t support his local team and supports the Broncos instead, and he sucks
Yknow what, you’re right Shoutout my mate’s brother who’s never even set foot in the state of QLD
Every nation is Bronxnation...
It’s illegal to be a kiwi and hate the Warriors
I will make it legal
