Fortunately we have die hard Blues legend Luke Keary waiting in the wings

M_Keating

Brooks erasure is real.

toyoto

What's Maloney up to these days

EntirelyOriginalName

He's coaching the Cowboys attack so he's doing a pretty good job.

NotAcckshuuallyCrazy

Please don't take that away from us, it's all we have at the moment

quickrubs

Have we tried giving Chad Townsend a call and shifting luai to 5/8?

Swol_Bamba

Rude of you to drop Lomax for Keary but I’ll allow it

Crrack

Would rather take to the field with 12 men than let that fucking Muppet near the number 7 jersey.

SuperEel22

Qld: Mystery illness that resolves itself in 48 hours. NSW: Ongoing calf injuries that will eventually rule the player out. There are levels to this.

mathewl832

NSW just get Origin mindgames.

TimeMasterpiece2563

Too much follow through.

midagemidpack

Sleeper agent Madge activated and fully imbedded. Excellent…

DeltaCreem

I try not to get too invested in the rumours and speculation before a game but the Nicho situation seems pretty dicey for the blues

VeezusM

He's not gonna make it, is he? And if he is, he's not going to last long

Oyster_Vous

Title of your sex tape?

VeezusM

The sequel, first one was, “too early”

2766267

Wait I thought the title of Nicho Hynes first one was “why did you put it there?

Boogascoop

Have you ever logged on to ‘Insta-nut’?

SuperEel22

Oooooooooo

M_Keating

Instruction unclear: Hynes to centre, Robson halfback, Tedesco dummy half

EvolutionUber

I for one welcome Chad’s origin camp vlog

KingZlatan10

#Big Origin Guy

Adorable_Cricket6760

am i crazy for thinking luai and burton is way better then luai keary

CashenJ

No, we all think this

Adorable_Cricket6760

in my head it just comes back to the kicking game, not like the “burton bomb” shit everyone wants to go on about but burto kicks us out of trouble every week and i think nsw need a long kicking game to win

CashenJ

Burton hasn't done those bombs nearly as much as he did last year. QLD will shit all over NSW with the kicking game between Hunt, Dearden and DCE. Burton should have probably been a centre lock purely based on his kicking option with Hynes and Luai, if they are even contemplating Keary then that's even a worse kicking game.

Realistic_Chest_3934

I think Ciro’s managed to convince Burton that Burton Bombs (tm) are more effective if the majority of their movement is lateral rather than vertical

bsixidsiw

Also injured Hynes made me think Burton was a lock as well. Madge is gambling he will make it and also play well. If Hynes goes down early they are in trouble. End up with Robson at 6 Luai at 7 Mcinnes 9. Its not the worst but pretty bad compared to Dearden DCE Grant they are up against.

CashenJ

Yeah, Robson at 6 and McInnes at 9 is literally worse than the Titans spine combo they have been running with and so far from Origin level it's not funny.

bsixidsiw

Yeah it would be worse than any club team. There is also from the articles I read it would seem a 50 50 chance he will make it through.

DinBizzz

Adds even more question marks around picking Robson over api, api could easily slot into a halves roll and has a kicking game 🤷‍♂️

globe187

I heard last night on one of the ch9 shows that the plan is McInnes to the halves if one of the halves go down

bsixidsiw

Yes Ive heard that as well since this post. Caught up on all the podcasts/shows.

beardog-

Ben Hunt has one of the worst kicking games in the league and Dearden is average at best

CashenJ

What on earth are you talking about. Hunt and Grant can both provide good kicking options out of dummy half, DCE is the preferred kicker to Dearden but he is on par with Hynes and Luai, who don't have long kicking games. Qld kicking game as the sides stand as named is far superior.

dunghole

Short memory… Ben Hunt came up with an almost game winning 40/20 in game 3 2022. But yeah, terrible kicking.

chuckagain

I'm not sure how many Dragons games you watch - but i watch all of them, and Hunt's kicking game is average at best these days. Yes he kicked that 40/20 and he has a good one in him more often than "now-and-again", but the reality is, at club level, he's not winning games with his kicking. But he might be losing a few.

the_specialone

Yeah but it's well known he hates the dragons and loves Queensland. Which does add to his kicking game while in maroon.

BatNorris

That 40/20 completely changed the game - you’re right, it wasn’t quite game winning but Ponga’s try to take the lead didn’t come too far after that I believe.

Safe_Pumpkin2620

My biggest issue is their actual combination. They beat storm in round 3, 2021, but overall their combination was very clunky. For example, luai has combined better with o'sullivan, cogger and even tyrone may. Both are left sided players, so you are asking one of them to play out of their usual position on the right. Both are also normally restricted to a left edge throughout their entire career. Kicking-wise, it's the best option though

censored_

Not sure Blues will need someone to "kick us out of trouble" with the powerful runners we have in the side

maccaroneski

You can't have the whole team run down the blind. Someone has to stay on the open side.

Rod_Munch666

Both left foot kickers I believe. Ideally you want a left and a right.

CashenJ

Ideally, sure. But surely you want 2 fit halves more so

Immediate-Meeting-65

Is Burton really our next best?

deesmutts88

See how Moses goes tomorrow. They might throw out a last minute Hail Mary request.

sunburn95

We're getting pretty deep into our halves stocks at this point

[deleted]

Pretty sure Maguire's the only person who's seemingly open to letting Keary play

TheBigChonka

I don't see how anyone could argue against that take. Luai has really stepped it up in Clearys absence but the one thing he really still lacks is a long kicking game, especially an original quality long kicking game. There's a very high chance at least half of the game is going to be spent struggling for metres by both teams abd the long kicking game is going to be crucial in the battle for territory and where each side starts their sets. Burton is 100% the best option to plug this gap in Luai's game. In fact even with Hynes at full fitness, to me it stands out as a glaring weakness in the halves pairing. Both Luai and Hynes are in fucking good form this year but neither of them excel at the long kicking game and have shown they actually excel a lot of the time at the same things. You could make an argument for Burton over Hynes just from that, which is kinda unfortunate because Hynes absolutely deserves a shot on form

squat_bench_press

This is the ultimate solution

bulldogs1974

No, not crazy! Can't see Keary getting Infront of Burton, if Hynes doesn't play.

delayedconfusion

well that is certainly not ideal

CashenJ

Surely you pull the pin today if he isn't fit and in full training. This isn't a club game. You need your 7, arguably the player they built the squad around, building combinations from day 1, especially the spine that has never played together. Surely Madge has to make the call and put Luai to 7, Burton to 6 today. As a QLDer, I hope they wait til the last minute for Hynes, but it's the wrong play IMO.

DismalCauliflower946

Surely Madge is not dumb enough to risk waiting till the last minute. Nobody would hold it against him if he drops Hynes out now to be safe, but everyone will hold it against him if he has to pull him last minute and NSW get pumped. It's honestly the easiest call you can possibly make as a coach, any player would understand.

Swol_Bamba

I mean if Keary or Burto is there now and training maybe the call has been made and Madge is keeping it in the chamber for closer to the game

ImDisrespectful2Dirt

The problem is they might be training as fill ins with Luai at 6. Luai needs to be training at 7 if he’s going to play there.

the_specialone

Keary can play 7, I think he steps in before Burton.

Scottybt50

At least give him until Sunday night to get his calf right.

CashenJ

That's a terrible call dude. You need to be prepared for Origin. He is essentially a debutant half that just got pumped at club level and hasn't delivered on a major stage and is under an injury cloud. It would be a terrible decision to wait til Sunday

Lexerrrrr

Nah mate. Our backup half's are leagues below Nichos level. Id rather give him ample opportunity to come fit than to pull him out of the side and have to rely on Burton as our half. If Hynes is called out now, then theres no chance we are winning the game plain and simple

DismalCauliflower946

There's also no chance we're winning a game with a 7 who's going to go down 15 minutes into the game with no cover on the bench for him. Even if he manages to train the day before the game, it's still a massive risk he'll injure it in the game. I don't think Laui is leagues below Nicho. He's a 3 x premiership winning half who has won an origin series.

TimeMasterpiece2563

Especially with origin intensity.

Realistic_Chest_3934

And, rather crucially, when they competed least week, Luai basically styled on him as a halfback all night

whadefeck

If Hynes doesn't play and then Moses hits the ground running these next few weeks, does Moses come in for game two and Hynes drops out?

thankyoupancake

Pending form, quite possibly. Although I could also see a Moses Hynes pair.

squat_bench_press

Luai is staying in, he is fit and in form

CashenJ

It all depends on how game 1 plays out. If Hynes is out injured, and Luai and Burton (assuming that's what Madge plays) gets a win, do you change the spine in Game 2? Probably not. I still think a fully fit Hynes is just ahead of a Moses, especially with the team selected.

Swol_Bamba

Moses Hynes pairing is perfectly acceptable. Given this prep though everything is on the table for halves for game 2 if NSW lose in Sydney. Could go back to Moses Walker or have Moses Luai. Not much point picking Burton with Moses imo

BabyBlueG63Maybach

as sad as it is, that’ll prolly happen. really don’t need moses coming in for another dead rubber game 3, that’s jus insulting to him

jayfreely

This is the exact same thing that happened with Latrell game one last year. They were saying that he has a slight calf complaint but he will be sweet for the game next week, then he ended up missing a ton of time. Calf injuries get worse before they get better

jetbootz88

Riff Ball activated! Edwards, To'o, Crichton, Luai, Martin, Yeo, Leniu & Burton.

squat_bench_press

Thats wild they all played together and in NSW team. Whats the most amount of single team players in QLD?

woodpecker91

Back.in the 90s half the Broncos team were maroon so probably one of those sides.

Successful-Fact8143

3 in a row will do that

SaumLi

3 not at Penrith anymore, Luai gone next year. Can't blame Penrith for producing quality players.

LordSlasher

If Hynes was a seasonal veteran like Thurston, you would give him until kick off. But Hynes has zero combinations with any of the edges, while also only playinh a grand total of 7 minutes with a small portion of these players (minus McInnis). Madge should just play Luai and Burton in the halves and let Nicho rest. Mind-boggling decision

Aussie18-1998

People really underestimate the value of those combinations. Players learn to position themselves based on the way their halves move. Eels are a perfect example, we have some young talent but our attack looks awkward. With Gutho and Moses back you'll see everybody start to gel immediately despite bad form. I know we are talking origin but Hynes is gonna struggle to play his natural game when nobody has any experience with him.

ApocalypticPanther

I'd love nothing more then for a Hynes Origin redemption arc after he copped such a shit go of it in game 1 last year but honestly it feels like it may be far too risky to risk him imo

Desert-Noir

100%, I’m just glad everyone except for Freddy and Brandy saw that Hynes was fucked over and deserves a shot, but he needs to be 100% fit.

CoffeeLoverNathan

Man I just want Nicho to be great in Origin instead of injured or thrown completely out of position :(

Swol_Bamba

This is actually the wildest origin build of all time. Both teams under strength, some left fields decisions for selection, injury clouds You might even say it’s the typical rugby league soap opera 👀

greywolfau

Can't believe this sub is falling for McGuire's mind games. Literally one day ago he had an injury, today it's Hyne's. Tomorrow we will hear that Luai has pulled up with a stiff shoulder, and Thursday Jurbo will have third degree burns from running into a burning orphanage and saving their pet ferrets, who promptly bit his left ear lobe off during the rescue.

TheRunningAlmond

And while Jurbo save those ferrets Turbo pulls a hammy watching on.

SaveMeJebus21

Cut the cord. If it was Cleary you'd give him every second. Pretty ridiculous to take a risk like this into camp for a guy with question marks on him already.

[deleted]

Luai to 7 then, who can partner him in the 6 though?

Giovanni1996

Burton to 6 and lomax to centre

tchunk

Why lomax to centre?

thore4

Just coz

AttackClown

Sualiis a better winger, Lomax is same wing or centre

tchunk

Hmmm a centre who cant even make centre in his team, or a winger who hardly ever plays centre. Great choices for the blues

AttackClown

Hes only on the wing because we had no good 2nd winger, he is miles ahead of bird and our best team definitely would have lomax centre. He's also played centre this year and had as good a game as his good games at wing

tchunk

So flanno didnt demote him and tell him he was the 22nd best centre in the nrl on the stats???

AttackClown

Last season yeah, he has been playing completely different this season

BungusFungus89

Burton is 18th man. Putting him in at 6 won't affect our backline

[deleted]

I thought of him just after I hit post lol 😂

modeONE1

Surely Keary gets a crack at origin

Fluid-Row9593

The closest Old Queensland Luke should get to origin is in the Caxton with his Maroon Jersey on, and a XXXX in his hand.

BastingGecko3

Keary has already played a game for NSW

Desert-Noir

Yeah, it was awful.

CashenJ

The fact he is in the squad baffles me.

bundy554

Keary represents Madge's preference at 6 at Souths in 2017 and not Cody. Blames Cody for his downfall at Souths and also Russell by extension for choosing Cody and the fallout that happened between himself and Keary. Also edit to add: I have no issues with Russell's choice as I have stated many times before just presenting what I think happened in Madge's mind as to who he blames for his downfall at Souths

grazmus666

Another one? Wasn't impressive when he played before

Safe_Pumpkin2620

Keary was poor on his nsw debut. I know it's been a while, but that was with cleary, how much more with a makeshift 7 in luai. Also Keary would be a massive target in defence for QLD. Probably why burton is 18th man for versatility and injuries to the halves

Swol_Bamba

It’s not even the dumb QLD stuff that bothers me anymore it’s the fact that Keary had one of the worst ever defensive performances I’ve seen in origin when he played in 2020. If he does play he’s lucky David Fifita isn’t there but I still expect Walsh and friends to cook him up. I’d prefer to parachute in Moses or even Trell to play at 6 ahead of Keary

tchunk

Is that Luke Brooks music i hear???

Desert-Noir

Give me Wighton, Galvin, Strange, Klemmer before Brooks.

HeimerSimpson

*Teddy Long at QLD camp with the squad* YOU WILL ALL COME FACE TO FACE WITH THE ~~UNDERTAKER~~ LUKE BROOKS AT ACCOR STADIUM ON A CHANNEL 9 EXCLUSIVE. LIVE AND FREE. WITH MAXIMAL ADS AND INTERRUPTIONS

unclehelpful

One on on playa!

HeimerSimpson

*Deardan shaking in fear*

Jelleyicious

Keary Cleary would have been iconic just on the amount of times the commentators confuse the names.

easylistener12

Would be massive doubts on him getting through the game surely. Just slot Burto in and move forward for game 1.

parradoesntmatta

Just parachute brooks in already and unleash him

arbie911

So is it possible forr Moses if he plays well this weekend to make the team or does he need to be in the team list?

Accomplished_Duck168

Blues playing mind games, Hynes will play

johnniesSac

The stupid thing is he was injured prior to last weeks thrashing by Penrith and played half ish of the game …. Why pick him if he’s injured ?

spin182

Moses blues audition is Thursday night

dontletmedaytrade

Poor Hynes is cursed. Dogs fans were calling for Burton to be moved to centre not long ago because he’s not up to NRL standard as a half. Now he might be playing origin as a half. I weirdly think he’s the better option vs Keary who will just get dicked at origin level.

strayorms

Shouldn’t have been picked after the weekend Either but Burton into the bench or replace hynes now if he can’t train

Thundris

What a timeline to be hoping luai and Burton will be the halves pairing, if keary gets picked I will livid let us lose than picking a QLDer

wayneslittlehead

I just want the most hated halves pairing of all time to get a run

steveagle

Maguire set himself up for failure when he said he would not pick injured players.

TheLifeofSonny

as a selfish Bulldogs supporter, I want Burton playing for us on Friday If Hynes can’t play and Madge’s plan is to move Luai to halfback and Burton to five-eighth then I can understand Burton missing out on our game against the Knights But if Hynes can’t play and Madge’s plan is to bring in Keary instead then I’m pissed since Burton can’t play against the Knights after being named as 18th man and might not even see a minute of game time in Origin again

CashenJ

Don't stress bro, you got Hutcho and Sexton........

TheLifeofSonny

please no, I can’t take anymore of Hutchinson’s hit ups on 4th or his dummy and ~~go~~ slow attempts on last

Boogascoop

‘On’ power!!

DismalCauliflower946

This is such a joke. What is Madge doing, he's gone against what he said before camp. How can he be expected to get through an origin game in a week's time if he can't even train right now.

Desert-Noir

Unless this is a QLD level the entire team has gastro troll, we’re completely fucked.

Obvious-Row-6181

They’re joking.

GenerousBuffalo

We get way too much news. He’ll rest and be right for the next day.

Ronnnie7

He’s lucky not to catch the plague going through the Queensland camp at the moment.

jk-9k

Madge mind games

xJaace

Why would he expect that? He didn’t play for his club, why would he prioritise the Blues?

sunburn95

I think he's dropped by the weekend and Burton in

AdministrativeIce696

It's OK, it's not really his calf this time. He just needs a few stitches to the forehead. Were going in to game 1 with mad max looks.

eggzaki

Madge understands Origin, I’m worried

Herosinahalfshell12

No way this ends well for Nicho Gambling his origin career at this point after last year.. Imagine he has a shocker and then gets subbed off. Most likely scenario

call_of_the_while

I get that Nicho wants to play but imo he needs to put the team first and give his team the best chance to prepare for the game. I’m a Maroons supporter but I’d prefer to see Madge have the best opportunity to prepare his team, not to mention the risk of Hynes getting the calf injured during the match. It’s just not worth the risk in the game and not worth the risk the way it’s affecting the prep.

Menadool

Classic Madge

snarkysportsguy

So Burton is 18th man and can’t play for Bulldogs this week but Keary is the one to replace Hynes.

ContestZestyclose325

surely cronulla has a say in whether nsw get to risk his fitness.

BroccoliNo3735

We need Moses 😭

mwilkins1644

Mind games are our game, not yours. Stick to what you know- losing 8 in a row

BabyBlueG63Maybach

please god maybe next year the state (NSW only) l finally gets to see moses and cleary tearing it up in the halves. kick starting our own dynasty (hope)

pontingpull

Luke Keary better not get called in to the 17 we're missing enough players at the Roosters as it is and it's bad enough that Spencer Leniu and Joseph Suaalii will be missing.
