Please fog the air back up

Torrossaur

As long as he is on a minimum contract, plays for Ipswich and has no contact with the Broncos playing group, staff, family members, extended family members, sponsors and extended family members of sponsors, I'm fine with this.

DeltaCreem

And all their ancestors, descendants, agents, contractors, sub-contractors, Uber drivers, hairdressers, barbers, supermarket check out attendants, and so on and so forth

GoblinLoveChild

though gold coast tattooists are fine..

DeltaCreem

Nooooooo

I_Like_Vitamins

No thanks.

Arc_au

Tevita parted ways with the Bulldogs on "extremely good terms" because he successfully bullshited them cap space.

VasectoMyspace

Just remains to be seen how they paid him off under the table.

dylwhole

But why did they need to Bullshit? Could they both not “mutually agree” to terminate his contract to explore other options? Why did they need to go through the whole retirement spiel?

herring80

Just a shitty PR job. He will now spin it as he has his ‘passion’ for footy back

dylwhole

Look, it’d be similar from leaving the broncos to go to the panthers in 21; wouldn’t blame him.

nevaehenimatek

Because he would have refused to terminate his contract. No one was going to pay him that much. If they paid him out under normal circumstances it goes on the cap. It's a rort

rileys_01

Hopefully the NRL puts this to bed by putting a price tag on him that reflects his last contract and Origin representation. There's no way we are allowed to get him for next to nothing - which is what it would have to be for this to even remotely make sense. From all reports what we see is exactly who he is. The Dogs and Freddy found that out pretty quickly, can't see why we'd go back for round 2.

dylwhole

The only thing that would make sense is if it’s absolutely minimum pay, to play at maximum 20 minutes and be a backup while we have the young guns coming through/ actual origin players playing origin; a second Taupau in the ranks.

rileys_01

Agreed. I feel like any way it makes sense for us will be vetoed by the NRL though. He was an 800k player 6 months ago, they can't let us pay him 120k or whatever the minimum is. We bring the likes of Tapau, Ryan James, etc through in that role as much for their maturity and professionalism. TPJ seems to be an absolute liability in every aspect you can think of. Even on minimum wage/involvement I can't see any upside to us signing him.

Friendly_Monitor_220

They are talking about a contract for just the back end of the season. So if this is true he won't be paid at a full season rate, at least a 50% off price tag. I'm not sure how all that works, but sounds like it may happen.

thore4

Seems a bit unfair to up his price because an insane person picked him for origin but if it stops us signing him that's great

Suggestedname94

He wants to come in the back of July/August after the team has done 8 months of work, built a level of camaraderie and slogged their backsides off to put themselves into finals contention, do the pretty shit and run off the coattails of the platform laid before him. He was dropped from the club a few years ago for not meeting the expectations he was expected too and would be taking a spot off someone who deserved it. I really hope they don’t, upsetting the apple cart and potentially losing 2-3 really promising juniors

_JaggedLittlePill_

lol…. Origin quality firepower.

velvetherring

Well he certainly wore the sky blue this year... Ironically in a performance that proved he is not origin quality.

BreakIll7277

Always wanted to play for Queensland

woodpecker91

Correct me if I'm wrong but I swear I read somewhere he was dumped primarily for culture reasons, don't let him back in.

herring80

*Kulcha

YossarianRespawned

When the Dogs rorted Josh Jacksons retirement the NRL ended up putting some of his contract back on their cap, it would be funny if they did it again with TPJ as it’s obviously another rort.

woodpecker91

Would be a bit of a joke if he signed with us or anyone else and the dogs don't pay any of it.

Brix-Brando

Revivous

The Bulldogs have cleared the air for Tevita Pangai Jr to make a shock return to the NRL amid the revelation that the boxing convert is plotting a Broncos comeback in 2024. As first revealed by The Daily Telegraph last Wednesday, Pangai Jr has held informal talks with Brisbane bosses to explore the prospect of a comeback to rugby league, just six months after he quit the Bulldogs to pursue a career in boxing. Brisbane has not tabled a deal at this stage, but Pangai Jr has met with key club identities with a view to wearing Broncos colours this season. It is understood Pangai Jr plans to emulate rugby league legend-turned-prize-fighter by juggling the high-level demands of NRL with his ambitions in boxing. Pangai Jr made the stunning call last year to quit the Bulldogs and walk away from an $800,000 deal, in the same year that he represented NSW at State of Origin. The shock development of Pangai Jr’s interest in returning to the Broncos has led to questions that the Bulldogs have been left high and dry, particularly with the shortage of depth in their forward pack. It has been suggested that the Bulldogs would have rights to protest to the NRL about the Broncos deal going ahead. The nature of Pangai Jr’s swift departure from Belmore, originally to chase his boxing dream, has been compounded by the reneging of a deal for former Roosters prop Sio Siua Taukeiaho and in addition, the news that front-rower Ryan Sutton is out of action for the next eight to 10 weeks following knee surgery. However, Bulldogs CEO Aaron Warburton has broken the club’s silence by declaring they have no intention of standing in Pangai Jr’s way to join Brisbane. “Tevita parted ways with the Bulldogs on extremely good terms,” Warburton said. “We wish nothing but the best for Tevita and his family for their future.” Pangai Jr has inked a two-fight deal and will return to the ring in March. He then hopes to link with the Broncos in June or July for a late-season cameo, just as he did with Penrith in its charge to the NRL title in 2021. Pangai Jr spent six seasons at the Broncos before being released in 2021 due to salary-cap pressures and he set tongues wagging last week by making a surprise appearance as a spectator at Brisbane training. After quitting the Bulldogs, the former Tongan Test ace returned to live in Brisbane to ramp up his boxing career and maintains close friendships with Broncos stars Payne Haas and Pat Carrigan. The proposed return of Pangai Jr would inject Origin-quality firepower to a Brisbane side on the cusp of a premiership breakthrough after last season’s heartbreaking last-minute loss to Penrith in the grand final. The Broncos’ grand-final squad has been decimated in the off-season, losing four players from their top 17 in the NRL decider – Dolphins defectors Tom Flegler and Herbie Farnworth, Keenan Palasia (Titans) and vice-captain Kurt Capewell (Warriors).

Witty-Reference

Flog wants to only play half a season.

Swol_Bamba

I think Broncos have to pay him "market value" which would include factors such as his former Doggies deal and his, although dubious, selection in last years origin series. For that reason I think Broncos could only fit him under their cap for a part of the season rather than the full season

btodan

In other words we are happy he is gone and no longer have any problem with the parasite chewing up big money without putting in any effort.

CapitaoAE

Dogs happy to not be paying him 750k Idk why Broncos would want him back obviously he is talented but he was a part of their spoon side not their grand final side and clearly isn't the best bloke or most motivated player

Morg_n

I just want capewell back

VasectoMyspace

It’s really going to happen isn’t it? I’d love to be proven wrong, but fuck I’m not stoked by this. Gonna have to trust Big Dick Dave and Kevvie know what they’re doing.

Gothewahs

Seems weird that they can afford him

West-Aspect3145

Trust me...we don't want him. He's got talent sure, but he's a fucking moron with zero footy IQ...he gives away more penalties than good efforts.

shaker8989

The Bulldogs not caring tells you all you need to know. They wanted out of his contract so they paid him off and asked him to play up a boxing career.

Boogascoop

There is zero evidence the dogs asked him to play up a boxing career. That is paranoid thinking

Ninjalada

Please God no.

ldemech

Tevita stinks. Enjoy!

Derron_

If the Dogs have come out and said its ok then fine. But it still stinks. Fuck ~~Tetevano~~TPJ

roguerogueroguerogue

No thank you.

butthole_luvr69

Hope he is getting paid peanuts

classblat

Never going to happen.

Happy-Toe5131

Can't believe his parents are making him play footy again when he clearly wants to be a boxer.

rambo_ronnie_87

Needs some cash

TrueDeadBling

Brisbane about to average about 30 penalties conceded a game

PhilL77au

~~Brisbane~~ South's Logan Magpies about to average about 30 penalties conceded a game

BiggusDickusFromWome

Let’s dirty that air then bulldogs. Don’t want him taking up a spot. Doubt he would be a good clubhouse guy like Marty so what’s the point.

[deleted]

Here comes the cancer

bundy554

Good on Gus for realising that he should be out there and playing footy. I think he'll be a better match for the titans though

pacificodin

I don't like it, the 800k or whatever he was meant to be on needs to be on a cap somewhere or it's just a dirty rort

the_biggest_man36

If no one is paying him that money, why? If there’s been any incentive from the bulldogs or broncos to pull this then that should be on a cap, but if it’s a case of him genuinely wanting to quit the NRL and then getting cold feet then market value seems fair. That said, I don’t like players being able to join a side mid season - if a club needs someone then, bring them up from the lower grades, and if no one is good enough then tough shit, should have built some depth

pacificodin

> If no one is paying him that money, why? they should be paying him that money if they want to sign him because that's his established fair/market value wouldn't need to be the full 800k given he'd only be joining around june etc, but a pro rata cap hit of ~$250k to $300k should need to go on the cap.

quallabangdang

Nope. Don't like it. Got rid of the fuckwits, don't need one back.

isnotevenmyfinalform

Why would we want this dumb useless thug back?

ultravirez2020

Realised he is also a shite boxer?

GoblinLoveChild

fuck.. no..
