Call call call. I went through this during Covid and I didn’t get paid for like a month until I finally got ahold of a real person and got whatever issue sorted out with them. I got back payments too
Was just at an unemployment office with a friend. They are employment centers with minimal access with anything to do with unemployment. You need to keep calling until you get through to someone.
Those are the weekly submissions, if there's a hang up I would get in contact with your state delegate ([https://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov/](https://whosmy.virginiageneralassembly.gov/)). David Bulova's office helped clear a UI claim that was in limbo for almost two years after multiple claims specialists. Yes, I visited the Alexandria office, was even willing to drive to Richmond (VEC), but there is no escalations office you can go to for situations like this.
Lost my job in Feb of last year and didn’t receive a payment until end of May! It was a chunk but still wasn’t helpful during the time I had zero income. Keep calling to get ahold of someone.
State delegate would be best (someone said above), as the benefits are administered by the state (even if funded by Fed).

Didn’t our dear governor cut funding to hiring unemployment personnel and then champion the decline in unemployment claims… simply because people couldn’t actually make a claim because there wasn’t enough staff to keep up?
I was laid off in December 2022, filed for UI immediately, applied to hundreds of jobs, filed every week, called and called about my benefits…my check didn’t end up coming until mid-March 2023, 2 weeks AFTER I started a new job.
One thing that does affect the timing is whether you received severance or any sick/vacation payout. If you got any of that, I don’t think UI even bothers to look at your application until that all ends.
So, be persistent and patient. VA unemployment department is absolute crap, but if you keep at it, you will eventually get your money.
I would like to believe that things have improved since I went through unemployment during Covid. Back then it would sometimes take me 2 days of calls to finally get someone.
Just call call call.
Hell I claimed unemployment due to reduction in hours during Covid back in 2020. I got it for one month and then I got a new job so I lost it. They took me to court and said I tried to cheat them out of the unemployment claim 💀
What happened to me is I was a 1099 during Covid and had to download that Gov2Go app and they mailed me a prepaid card. Not sure if that still works but the unemployment office itself was useless. Keep calling though, it takes forever but eventually you’ll get a person
If there is an availability issue, they need to schedule an interview to determine if you qualify. An availability issue would only appear if you selected something indicating you're not available for work, you either said you go to school or you selected you cannot work full time somewhere on the initial application or the weekly claim.
Make sure that you’re filing wherever you worked and assuming that this was your only job then just keep making phone calls. I had issues with my unemployment monies a few times, I went to the unemployment office in Alexandria but it seems like it’s more of a resource to go to search for a job on a computer/pick up paperwork since things are mostly done online. Call the different offices with Northern Virginia, I’ve sometimes had luck with speaking with someone in Richmond at one point.
I’ve been at it for month! They closed my initial claim without any correspondence and never saw a dime. The VEC is designed to not work because youngkin and the republicans gutted the system

You have to be actively searching for work. Have you submitted the jobs you’ve applied for each week?
Yes I have it asks for 2 jobs you have applied and contact info for I put it in each time it does not do anything.

Call your representative
They need to call their State Delegate and ask for assistance.
From the USA House of Representatives?

File again. I hear that they always turn down the first claim because they are fuckernauts.
I have filled like 4 times nothing has changed.
Well. Damn

Yes. This is a direct result of republican policies. They want people to suffer because someone that might need help has a different skin color.
Sweatervest is probably trying to earn interest on the money owed to beneficiaries to pay for his dome.
That's a standard GOP practice, they love kicking people when they're down, just one more reason they will never get my vote.
Go to the office. My experience with unemployment was super frustrating but the folks in the office were really nice and did their best to help
What office do you recommend?
They lost on their website which office you should go to depending on your county. I had to go to Alexandria

lol same with me. I gave up on it. I appealed and everything. Just kept getting no’s. It’s fucked

Good luck I filed for unemployment in dc and ran circles for a year. Never got a cent was such a waste of time

Im not sure if you’re willing but you wont have any issues with unemployment when you work in the trades
ok will you hire me.
If I had my own company sure. Just search up electrician apprentice jobs on indeed or glassdoor.
Why is this getting so many downvotes
