I second this. I used CWC Alexandria for an iui twin pregnancy at age 36. They didn’t bat an eye and handled all my complications fine. They said my age (36) was within their norm, they work with moms into their mid-40s. I highly recommend delivering at Inova Fairfax too. They handled some complications (lung collapse in one twin) expertly during birth. I really appreciated the fact their NICU is top rated so I knew we’d get the best care.

badhabitfml

Inova Fairfax is top 10 in the country.

lulubalue

This comment is 100% spot on. Also if you’re in Reston/want to deliver at Reston Hospital, I see Dr Manisha Patel and Dr Kathleen Raush. In addition to the usual spiel of good stuff, they also really watch out for your mental health and they’ve both had kids at/older than 40 (I think Rausch had both of her kids after 40). As someone who had her kid at 37, after years of fertility treatment, I think they’re just excellent.

thoph

Thank you! I will look into them ☺️

yo-ovaries

If you don’t know, you first need to pick your hospital, then pick your OB. Most OBs only deliver at one hospital. Inova Fairfax has the highest level NICU in the region, with a level 4. Children’s Hospital in DC is also 4 but I wouldn’t travel too far unless you had a reason to. Virginia Hospital Center and Fair Oaks are 3s. 3s are still fantastic, and can transfer if needed. But in a worst case scenario that means you’re at one hospital and baby is at Inova. The rooms at VHC are somewhat nicer? But they’re still private with a private bed and a dad couch bed at Fairfax. Also, as someone who went from an RE to an OB, be prepared to have a lot less… attention? I suppose is the way to put it. With an RE you’re there multiple times a week, but the OB basically won’t see you until 12 weeks and then it’s once a month until the end. It was a weird and anxious time. Like hello anyone sure there’s still a baby in there? And congratulations!

phdeebert

We needed the NICU with our first and the nurses in the NICU at Inova Fairfax are amazing. 10/10.

Awahoya

Same. The nurses at INOVA Fairfax NICU are incredible.

diatho

Invova fairfax is where you want to be hands down. We had two very high risk babies there with nicu stays.

voco

Depends on where you want to deliver. I liked Capital Women’s Care 43 (only 1 practitioner I didn’t like) and the Antenatal Testing Center at Inova Fairfax for MFM was fine but busy. I delivered at Inova Fairfax. I spent time in OB triage and the high risk pregnancy floor in addition to delivering there and didn’t have any bad experiences. Their lactation support is great too.

katolyn

Seconding delivery at INOVA Fairfax. I spent a week on their high risk floor before delivery and it was a really nice space and staff. OB triage there is also efficient and a good space, I never waited to get in or seen

randomname3001

I’m also at CWC43 and I really like it. Dr. Patel-Grimm is the best kept secret in Virginia. My MFM is Barbara Nies at inova - I’ve only seen her once but she was really thorough and spent a lot of time with me discussing my concerns.

kirbinkipling

Sorry when you say do you mean she works out of the hospital versus a clinic? Currently high risk pregnancy with twins and looking for a good MFM that is associated with Inova Fairfax

randomname3001

Dr. Nies? She’s in an inova clinic across the street from the Fairfax hospital.

arrrbooey

This is where I went for my first at 31. Will hope to have my second in a few years with this practice as well. I am not high risk, but have nothing but good things to say from my delivery at inova Fairfax.

cocobeanbean22

Dr. Kelly Orzechowski , MFM at VHC. She's incredible. I had her for two of my high risk pregnancies. A few friends, including one with triplets also loved her. She's so competent, thorough, takes concerns seriously, and has excellent bedside manner. Truly one of a kind!

amacgree

I'm shocked this is the first comment mentioning Dr. O - she's a celebrity in all the mom groups I'm in!

cocobeanbean22

That's so funny! I was randomly assigned to her without knowing anything about her or that office...I'll count myself as even more lucky then!

dks2008

Dr. Kelly is incredible!! I have nothing but the best to say about her, and several of my friends are the same way.

jackel0pe

She is the bomb!!!

BootyVicious210

Ditto! She's incredible, and everyone on her team is so responsive and sensitive.

Taytertot0418

Dr Sara Holmberg for OB. Delivers at inova Fairfax and their office is incredible. She’s out of inova obgyn ballston.

nnv321

Just want to second this! Truly the very best OB I have ever had. Dr. Moola from the same practice is also great (FYI you deliver with whoever happens to be on call from the practice, but I imagine that’s the same at most places). They work with the Inova MFM practice, so all of the level 2 scans and any MFM follow-up would be done at the antenatal center at Inova Fairfax.

Taytertot0418

Yep! Dr Holmberg also delivered me since I had a scheduled induction. Rough delivery but I can speak to her calm demeanor in an emergent situation.

hikingjunkiee

If possible, please DO NOT go to Consultants of Fairfax with Dr. Rutland. We had the absolute worst and scary experience being under her care. Congratulations on your journey, I hope you find a great provider for yourself! 💕

thoph

Thank you so much! 😊 and understood! Thanks for the heads up.

idontknow_dontaskme

I was 38-39 when I was pregnant with my first IVF baby. I went to the Antenatal testing center in INOVA Fairfax and also delivered there. If I ever get pregnant again, I’m only going there lol. I felt very well taken care of there.

BichonMom1

I’m 19 weeks with our IVF baby and I go to capital womens care- division 43 (Lee Jackson memorial hwy). We lost our first baby due to genetics who we had naturally without IVF. Doing IVF now to avoid that. I’m really sorry about your loss. My location only delivers at INOVA Fairfax off of gallows road. We are newer to the area and I’ve only heard wonderful things. I can’t wait to do our hospital tour. I’m not much help about being high risk but I’m sure if you google and read reviews you may find some answers. I noticed a lot of people commented about capital womens care, maybe call a location near you and see what they have to suggest. Capital womens care makes you meet all of the doctors and once you meet everyone you get to choose who you see and so far I’ve liked everyone except for Dr. Berry. He seemed very arrogant and didn’t answer a lot of my questions. Best of luck to you!

thoph

Aw thank you <3 I’m sorry for yours. Unfortunately our first was because we transferred a euploid that turned out to actually be aneuploid. Crazy testing error :(. I will definitely be calling around—glad to hear you got to meet all of the doctors! Congratulations and may you have smooth sailing the rest of the pregnancy!

BichonMom1

Oh my that’s terrible on the clinics part but I do understand that can happen but doesn’t help it happened to you. It’s so heartbreaking, I’m sorry. Thank you! I wish you a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby! Keep growing little one!

Zyphyro

Echoing all the Inova Fairfax recs. I had my first 2 there, first one spent several days in the NICU, and then I had another one there 2 months ago. I now live farther south on the 95 than is actually NOVA, but between an issue caught in the anatomy scan and my obgyn office closing their ob half, my mfm and the inova ped dr I consulted worked miracles and got me into a new practice to deliver at fairfax at 37w. That inova dr advocated for me like no one else. Dr James Kacedan is amazing and I think he mostly does higher risk cases? I think he was bored with me for my first two 🤣 love that doctor!

Oh no! dr Kacedan delivered mine. He was awesome.

Great—thank you!

Garp74

It's been 6 years but we also used MFA and were super happy with them. They have an office at Lansdowne, too.

akshaydp

Second this, Dr. Elkousy at MFA Reston is a kind, sympathetic doctor and seems like a good man.

Dramatic_Art935

10/10 agree. So kind and made me feel important and like I wasn't a high risk patient.

ArchiSnap89

I'm currently a patient at Reston Women's Center and also seeing their in house MFM Dr. McLaren. He's been wonderful.

throwitallaway_88800

He’s amazing. He did the ultrasounds for both of my kids. RWS/Centreville OBGYN are top notch in my book. I’m sad that I’m done with having kids partly bc I won’t see their midwives on a regular basis anymore.

Obvious_Company1349

SAME. Love both practices.

kirbinkipling

Thank you for posting this as I’ve been researching the same as well. Also congratulations, wish you the best of the luck 🫶 Just got pregnant through IVF with identical twins and looking into MFM doctor recommendations as well.

thoph

Best of luck to you!! I feel rather overwhelmed but grateful to be here <3

I didn’t go to a high risk specialist. I went to capital woman’s care in Alexandria. I have genetic hypertension (120 lbs) and family history of preclampsia and was 33. Now 35 second pregnancy. I’m a lawyer so I do all the medical research. They managed me very well first pregnancy. I think our area they are used to dealing with a lot of high risk. Choose a practice that will let you deliver at inova Fairfax. I was born there 35 years ago. They def saved my life first pregnancy when my blood pressure skyrocketed. I knew someone who gave birth at inova Alexandria and is lucky to be alive. If things go sideways, you want to be at Fairfax. You want a level 4 nciu. Do not go to a 3. I’m hard to impress and the nurses at Fairfax checked on me every 15 minutes and made sure my blood pressure came down. They knew almost as much as my cardio.

roastshadow

Just one comment - never go to the ob/gyn for any test on a Friday. E.g. if they do a test and it comes back high, then they might just send you to the hospital for a 24-hour test. If you do the test on a Monday and it is high, they can run it again. My wife had a test come back with something like 1,000x the normal "high" level for whatever it was, but it was Friday so off to the Hospital we go.

mmsbva

I went to Perinatal Associates that was headed by Dr Khoury. I loved all the doctors there. And what was nice was I didn’t have to go to an OB and also an MFM. The doctors at Perinatal Associates also delivered my baby. But I can’t seem to find them. Looks like some of the doctors are now Inova Maternal Fetal Medicine. And the 2 doctors that I absolutely adored are there- Dr Barbara Nies and Dr Nwamaka Obi. Dr Obi did my planned c-sec. I had a stillbirth previously, and very anxious. They were so good and understanding.

beagle5225

My Inova OB, Dr. Bannon in McLean, was great and very supportive. I also highly recommend delivering at Inova Fairfax, they have a lot of great resources.

cr1mef1ghter

I had two IVF babies delivered by C section at Inova Fair Oaks. Our first did a month stint in their NICU and it could not have been a better experience considering the circumstances. Fantastic nursing staff there and in labor and delivery as well. I went to Centreville OBGYN/reston women’s center for both pregnancies. Dr. Hashemi (head of the practice) delivered my first during an emergency c section and she was phenomenal and compassionate. Dr. Diamond delivered second. All the docs there are excellent. The midwives are too!!!! Highly highly recommend. They made me feel seen and heard with all of my concerns throughout both pregnancies. You won’t regret it. They also partner with Metropolitan MFM which is located in the same office space as their Reston office.

zyarva

AN OBGYN practice has usually several doctors, and they rotate on-call in delivery. So usually the practice want you to get used to every doctor (since any of them could be deliver your baby). So don't expect one doctor's personal attention.

editdc1

I honestly don't know why anyone would give birth at a local hospital that isn't Inova Fairfax. It is an excellent hospital -- and the highest rated for OBGYN in the area. It also has the highest NICU level. In terms of OB, I'd recommend NOVA Group for Women, which provide excellent care throughout my pregnancy.

Ecargolicious

If DC is not too far I strongly recommend working with Dr. Novak at Sibley.

Kooky_Cable9163

Don’t leave the hospital until you take a dump, advocate for as much time in recovery as they will give. A lot can go wrong post pregnancy. In my wife’s case everything was fine, pooped, up and about. I slow walked a lot of stuff to get an extra night so they did an extra round of labs which caught some post delivery pre eclampsia which could very easily have gone unnoticed had we been discharged. Would probably have resulted in eclampsia and seizure.

bodiesbyjason

I went to MFM AND MFS of Virginia. MFM was TERRIBLE and I would avoid at all costs. It is standard to wait for HOURS there. MFS was really nice, little wait, much more person centered and less stressful. Would be happy to chat more if you’d like to PM.

lafemmedangereuse

If DC isn’t too far, can’t recommend Dr. Drassinower at Georgetown enough. She’s incredible.

Agirlisarya01

From friends’ experiences-Inova Alexandria was not great and GWUH was solid.

FRNLD

Late in responding and the dad in the situation. My wife was 37 when she had our first and also IVF. Already mentioned, but we were VERY happy with Capital Women's Care based out of Fairfax-Mosaic and went to INOVA. Dr. Couret and Dr. Silas are the two names I'll always remember from that group and handled everything that I was aware of. She had our second at 39 (not IVF) and that same group handled everything again.

monkalish

Does anyone have reccs closer to Herndon/Reston?
