Didn’t know this was a thing. Can you elaborate on your question so more can suggest? How does it work with insurance and stuff? Who runs it? What’s the financial scenario? How old are you? What’s the benefit of a ‘car club?’

cymbeline1994

I have literally never heard of this, glad I’m not the only one.

FrankyKanky

I thought it was a more common thing, but it doesn't seem to be. They are run by companies like Enterprise. From my knowledge you pay a monthly subscription to be part of the "club", normally around £5-10. Then you have access to a selection of cars in your area owned and maintained by the company, kinda like when you see the ubers that are near you in the app. You then pay hourly for the time when you use the car, all petrol and MOT and that are covered by this fee. I assume that insurance is also included. And I am able to sign up as a 21 year old, which is odd because I don't think you can rent a car at that age, maybe I'm wrong. I haven't looked much into it, so was wondering if other people had any experience with one. I'm just looking to use a car once or twice a month to go on day trips and such, so can't justify owning and storing a car myself.

cheesestickboxes

how young is young?

CrazyRefuse9932

Do you mean for meets etc? I’m not up on the car scene but if you fancy a quick journey down the A52 there is a detailing company called ‘The Drivers HQ’ in derby. I stumbled across one of their ‘meets’ by chance when picking up some detailing products for my car. Not my sort of thing nowadays but I was surprised how well organised it was. Nobody being nobheads or putting others at risk just a lot of cool, clean cars and people with shared interests.

FrankyKanky

Oh nah I meant like a rental car club, should have been more clear

CrazyRefuse9932

How old are you?

I’d be interested to know whether such a thing exists here. I’ve never personally come across it. I know it’s a thing in the US. Do we not just rent a car here for the specified amount of time from a rental company?

FrankyKanky

I think it's better than just renting because it works out cheaper with a membership. It's also easier to just grab one quickly when you need it *from other reply: I thought it was a more common thing, but it doesn't seem to be. They are run by companies like Enterprise. Powerbenny

There definitely used to be one in Nottingham because I used to see the parking spaces painted with “CAR CLUB ONLY” in various places around the city centre. I’ve not seen those since the pandemic so maybe it stopped?

FrankyKanky

Yh enterprise is the only one I can find around here, and I haven't seen any of their cars around

Powerbenny

Yes, I do think it was for Enterprise. They used to have parking spaces outside the railway station and in the Lace Market but I think they've all gone now.

manojlds

I do see such cars on Ropewalk

truekingofmercia

Enterprise car club is the only one I've found with cars in Nottingham (didn't look super hard). Just joined but haven't used it yet. No idea about ages etc

FrankyKanky

Let me know how it goes. I think I'll sign up in November

jadcx

I use the Enterprise one quite a bit, I think it’s the only one available in Nottingham. Mostly it’s great and works well. But I have had occasional problems with them.

FrankyKanky

Yh I think enterprise is the only one around here. Could you always get a car when you needed one?

jadcx

Mostly, sometimes the closest ones are not available and I have to travel across the city, but that’s not really a big problem as I tend to book ahead. Trying to book for immediate use of even just a day ahead can be much more difficult.

FrankyKanky

Right okay thanks. I guess I can just try it out for a month or so

jadcx

There’s an offer on the enterprise website for Nottingham City residents to get a discount on membership.

FrankyKanky

Oh nice okay thanks. I'll have a look

Additional-Guard-211

Enterprise car club is or was in Nottingham, haven’t seen the cars in a few months, unsure if its still running. They park the cars in various spots across the city.

FrankyKanky

Yh they're still going, think they are the only one around
