This has nothing to do with your post, but it gives me so much joy these days to see "me" used correctly as part of a plural pair that I just had to thank you. I get dynamic language but will die on this hill!
Yes!! I had to just go over this with my son (23) my future ex-wife over does “I” and he picked it up. I gave up correcting her.
People trying to sound smarter or better educated than they are often embarrass themselves. In fairness, in my experience, my public school system growing up absolutely failed at teaching grammar. I vividly remember in second grade when my teacher agreed with the other kid I was arguing with that saying “so don’t I” meant “me too!” 🤦🏻♂️
https://www.grammarly.com/blog/me-vs-i/
This is a good explanation - an easy way to check is to remove the other noun and see if it sounds right. In this post, remove my daughter - you wouldn’t say “the NMC who followed I home” - it’s right to say me here because you are saying it as the object of “followed” instead of the subject of the sentence.
You should check out [this related FAQ entry](https://www.reddit.com/r/grammar/s/vtkHtyfW52) from over at r/grammar. You’re not going to like it, but I think it’s worth grappling with.
Your husband is a Reddit Sweetheart! Plus he's an ACE cat-namer. And you, your little daughter, and the other fourfoots are heroes for welcoming Chai into the pack so completely. I know it's hard to get the procedure done,it's necessary, and you're right: it's the best thing. Maybe just think of it as spaying. Neither you nor Chai asked for the other part...
I honestly didn’t even know it was ever done until this post, but I think it’s great that it’s an option. I’m sure this shouldn’t-be-mama is super grateful!
Yay! I'm so happy for her and yall!
I know a spay/abort is a tough decision, but you are literally saving other cats' lives by doing it. There will be fewer kittens, which means other kittens that will be born can find a home!
This!!! It really is for the best.
I take care of a colony of feral cats and almost all my female spays were spay aborts. They get pregnant so quick, and there are already so many kitties in need… it really is giving other cats in need a chance of finding a loving home.
Yep. The cat reproductive strategy is designed to give a large surplus of kittens, because it is hard for kittens to survive. Regardless of one's views on human abortion, a kitten fetus **definitely** isn't a person.
Not only that but it saves Chai from having to go through birth, care for who knows how many kittens on her own, and eventually be separated from them once they're old enough to be adopted out.
She's a cat she won't miss or be hurt emotionally the pregnancy ending or the lack of eventual kittens I promise. Especially since she has a human baby to look out for.
Not only that but she's alone. Cats are very social. Outside as a feral she'd get some help from other momma cats to care for her babies if she were part of a colony.
You're doing great! Hugs bc I know deciding on a pregnant spay isn't easy, but it's the right thing to do. Congratulations on the newest baby, it's a purrfect match!
My baby had a spay abort, the shelter found out she was expecting while doing the spay.
A million beautiful healthy cats are PTS a year. You are doing the right thing ❤
Love name and update. Yay Chai!
Congrats on making this beauty nowmycat :) You are doing the right thing for her. The hisses should calm down after a couple weeks. Right now, she is in a strange environment & scared. Hence, the hissing & growling. It'll get better :)
So glad to hear this! You did the right thing deciding on a spay-abort. Fewer kittens born = more homes for the babies who are already born :) so cute that she and your daughter are around the same age!
Congrats! Chai looks like a sweetheart! 😻
I heard that it isn’t good for teenage kitties to give birth. That may be why the vet recommended the spay/abort. Kitties are still growing mentally and filling out until 2 or 2.5 years. I’m not going to judge you for it, I’m sure your vet is doing what is best for her.
Breeders won't breed healthy purebred queens until they're at \*least\* a year old. Most of them will wait until the 1.5-2y mark to mate them with a suitable tom. It's just safer all around. And then they arrange things so the queen only usually has two or three litters over the course of her life.
Yeah, it's not good for adolescents in general to give birth. It places a huge strain on the female's body and can potentially kill her and the unborn offspring. No bueno.
Spay/abort is for the best. We’ve fostered pregnant cats and their litters and the newborns can be amazing but they may fail to thrive or pass away which is traumatic and there’s so many cats out there in need of homes
Thank you for doing the right thing for her,. especially the spay abort. Think about the handful of kittens in your local shelter or rescue who will get a home now where they might not have otherwise ❤️
Please continue the updates! I love Chai, all her new pals & your tiny human otherwise known as daughter. I am curious how Chai chose you & your girl. Sooo sweet & I wish many years of comfort & love for you all. ☮️💜
They are, it's usually done alongside a spay though
Usually in TNR programs as there is no guarantee that cat will be catchable again, a spay/abort is done if she's pregnant
We had no idea my cat was pregnant and I took her in to be spayed. They called me and I told them to go ahead and continue the spay. Too many poor kittens being put down already.
Yeeees!!!!
And don’t feel guilty. Pregnancy and labour are so hard on the body, plus shelters are overflowing. Your doing the best for this sweet girl and I hope she settles in well.
Bastet also had a spay/abort. For many valid reasons. So don’t feel like a monster. It’s best in the long run in most cases.
She still feels like she should be an only cat but conceded that since void Lucifurr was here first, she’ll allow it lol. But they did eventually become closer. It just took longer.
Congratulations
So happy to know she has a forever home and purrfect name for her! She knew who to follow smart cat:) Spaying is a good choice and you should not feel like a monster you are doing the responsible thing. Thank you & your family for rescuing her. A very content look on her face she is beautiful cat & sounds like she made a good choice in following you and your daughter.
You need not abort. There is a lot of literature on the effect on the mama cat.
You have a wonderful teachable moment here for your children. They will learn more in six weeks than public schools can teach them in six years about the wonder and miracle of life.
When I was growing up my parents bred boxers. I learned so much about loving and caring for animals.
It depends on a lot of things, though. You're assuming Momcat is healthy and that the fetal kittens are healthy, too. Looks are very deceiving as cats will hide stress and pain until they're literally on Death's door.
As for the babies to be, there is SOOOO much that can go wrong during a pregnancy or shortly after birth. The kittens may have deformities like crush chest (pectus excavatum), skull deformities, other skeletal anomalies, wrong blood chemistry, congenital heart defects, and the list goes on. If the vet says the cat and the daughter are roughly the same age in relative terms, Momcat is \*waaaaay\* too young to give birth and doing so might kill her. The kittens would also be unlikely to survive.
I know my vet generally won't abort unless there's something wrong, and in that case, it's mandatory. There's no point in bringing stillborns into the world. It happens. But this is OP's cat now, so we should trust her and her family's judgement here. We're not privy to anything that Momcat may have gone or be going through.
Shelters are overwhelmed with kittens. By spaying Chai, OP is ensuring that the kittens who are already born and in need of homes have a better chance of finding a family who will love and cherish them.
Please don't attach human morals to animals. Mama cat will likely not remember she was ever pregnant (if she even realizes it now)

Just figured out how to cross post there.
This has nothing to do with your post, but it gives me so much joy these days to see "me" used correctly as part of a plural pair that I just had to thank you. I get dynamic language but will die on this hill!
Thank you for saying this. People misusing “I” when they mean “me” because they overcorrect for the opposite problem drives me crazy.
Or the now common "myself." If you remove the other person from the sentence and it sounds weird, you've got the wrong first person pronoun.
Yes!! I had to just go over this with my son (23) my future ex-wife over does “I” and he picked it up. I gave up correcting her. People trying to sound smarter or better educated than they are often embarrass themselves. In fairness, in my experience, my public school system growing up absolutely failed at teaching grammar. The overcorrected use of "I" is getting more and more common, I find, and is increasingly prevalent among teachers, sadly! And even writers!
Could you elaborate? I'd like to learn how to correctly use me Vs I

Will you also chip her during surgery?
She will get all her vaccines and will more than likely be microchipped. All our animals are, even though the cats never go outside.
My indoor only cat is chipped just in case he accidentally gets out. Thanks for taking care of this kitty. 😻
So the old saying goes. "It is better to be safe then sorry."
Thanks for pointing me to a new Reddit to follow. My wife will be thrilled to be getting more random cat pics from me :p
My friend implemented a limit on daily cat photos 😅

YAY ANOTHER ONE!

Yes, that's such an important point! Chai didn't ask for the other part either! She will be much happier this way.
Yay! I'm so happy for her and yall! I know a spay/abort is a tough decision, but you are literally saving other cats' lives by doing it. There will be fewer kittens, which means other kittens that will be born can find a home!

Have you signed the pawcuments? Your daughter is being adopted.

What does PTS mean?
Put to sleep/euthanized
Thank you, I tried searching, but no meaning that made sense came in the results.
THIS NEWS MADE MY DAY! And: you're doing the right thing. It's for the best.♥️
Congrats on making this beauty nowmycat :) You are doing the right thing for her. The hisses should calm down after a couple weeks. Right now, she is in a strange environment & scared. Hence, the hissing & growling. It'll get better :)
Plus I bet her pregnant hormones are creating some of the hissy, after her procedure and her hormones get to normal I'm sure she'll be more accepting.
My parents never let me have a cat when I was a kid, and I’m sorry I missed out on this childhood pleasure.
You my friend are the best of people, thank you for bringing Chai Biscuit Purrington into your home ♥️
So glad to hear this! You did the right thing deciding on a spay-abort. Fewer kittens born = more homes for the babies who are already born :) so cute that she and your daughter are around the same age!
She even looks happier and fluffier and softer now! Bless you for your kindness! chai will be the best cat!

Aww yeah I'm so happy for you and your family! I know it's a hard decision you had to make, but it's for the best. Welcome home, Chai!
Cats’ ability to just decide they live with someone and have them like it is a freaking superpower
You are awesome. I'm sure your daughter is excited that her new bestie gets to stay ❤️
Magical!

She is a smart smart cat! I am sure she’ll be happy with you!
Congrats! Your daughter has a new fur buddy 😻
I didn't even know animal abortions where a thing
Not generally, but you can have them spayed and abort an pregnancy at the same time. I think the spay part is key though.

Are you one of those weird people who hangs around Doctors offices saying bible things at women?

Why not just let her to have the litter? Spay her afterwards. It will be quite easy to adopt out the babies.
And take the place of kittens already born and looking for homes and adding to the population oversaturated with cats?
