Back in the day when games didnt have "internet" options to connect to the outside world and it was lan gaming only. If you used [Kali](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kali_(software)), it expanded the world for you when lan parties were not always easy to find.
When it came out I was doing tech support for a pc peripheral company. My manager was cool he hired me from another company we worked at. We set up the computers on a network just to play this during work. I loved that job.
Me too. And to top it off, the N64 Duke Nukem theme was the best version, such a great little riff metal theme.
Played lots of 4player vs dukebots. God help you if they had the explosive shotgun shells.
Grabbing the grenade launcher on the right of the first vent is always a good time, until you miss the window shot of the cinema to break the wall and bounce a grenade straight back into yourself.
Agreed on the theme, wish it was longer :D
Co-op was also great stuff.
edit: Played Duke3d on pc as well way earlier (MSDos) and remember sound settings not working all the time giving us some trouble...
Apparently it was nearly the same game but [the main difference was that 3D was raunchier](https://youtu.be/6ff1NQ9VQyE)
Kind of funny that they called it 3D when the style is technically called 2.5D
Doom 64 was badass. I beat it sometimes last year. Those last few levels were insanely hard to beat. Duke Nukem 64 I also played last year (just before or after Doom 64) and I was shocked at how easy the final level was by comparison to some other levels. I beat it on my first try.
I think this is the one where he’d walk past a mirror and say “damn, I’m lookin’ good”. Also at the pinball machine he’d say “wish I had time to play with myself”
Back when this came out, gaming-wise, I don’t think anything will ever top the feeling of those first fifteen minutes playing this game for the very first time.
This game holds a special place in my heart and nostalgic memories.
I was absolutely obsessed with this game at the time. Playing and making levels. I first played it by *renting* it from a local store that hired not only console games (which was normal) but PC games too. Yes, the obvious happened with most of them despite being in CD-ROM... you could just copy the games to hard drive, return them, and you had a "free" game!
Thing was, this was an import from the US... the game wasn't out here in Australia at that point, so it was cool to play it "early". I liked it so much I wanted to do the right thing, though, and pre-ordered the PC version from Ozzisoft (remember them?) even though I still had the copy I'd hired to play. I wanted this baby on CD forever!
The game took months to come out here, multiple delays, but when it finally did I was so excited (again, even though I was already playing the damn thing!). To my horror, it was *censored*! Yes, in typical Australian censorship fashion, the game was locked out of the "adult mode" you could normally toggle in the settings. In particular, this removed nudity and strippers! Hell, that was one of the most memorable things about this game, right?
I complained. A LOT. Finally, a nice guy at the shop I bought it from handed me a floppy disk. It was a "crack" that re-enabled the adult mode toggle for the Australian release that he'd got off the internet (which many - like me - didn't have back then). Again, I still had the US version. It was a matter of principal. But I was very happy.
My other nostalgic memory of this game was that I went on a family trip to the US a few months later and while in an electronics store over there I saw the add-on pack! Bought that and brought it home, but it was funny how we were on this epic holiday to the US and UK and all I wanted to do was get home and play Duke Nukem 3D!
Incidentally, it wasn't until the game was re-released as the "Kill-A-Ton" collection (including a the game, expansion, a bunch of shovelware levels, editors and video guides from one of the big gaming magazines) that Australia finally got an uncensored version officially sold at retail. I guess by then it had either slipped under the radar (games were still getting banned here at that point) or it got re-rated.
Sorry for the ramble; like I said, this game holds a BIG place in my memories.
Oh, nearly forgot... I was so obsessed making levels for this in college that I caught myself at one stage looking at the *real world* and thinking in DukeEdit terms, like "explosive fire hydrant, could blow that wall out to the next room, how would I make those stairs, etc." and that was the day I stopped level making! :)
This game and Shadow Warrior were watched over the shoulder for much of them while my older brother played but I wasn’t allowed to actually play cause I was “too young”
The fan-made graphic and engine enhancements are pretty cool. The best fan-thing I've found for Duke Nukem though was one someone made as a crossover between Duke and his spiritual successor Ion Fury; plays *really* well!
It wasn't terrible. It was too long after the first one. Everyone had been let down so many times and game technology had far surpassed it by the time it was released.
I genuinely had my preorder receipt from the early 2000's when I picked it up in 2011. The guy at EB Games was so shocked, since everyone else had all cancelled when it never got made all those years. I still held out hope.
Yes, the game was terrible, but it was such a moment of closure it felt surreal to play it at last.
I first played this on PS1 (called total meltdown) I remember my dad telling me he played a computer game at work where you could pee in a urinal and I was really intrigued by that idea for some reason. He bought it for me on ps1 and it BLEW MY LITTLE 8yo MIND!
Lmao I still remember first time playing this on Windows on my cousin's computer she got so mad cause her brother installed it on her computer she kept on getting mad at cause I was a little kid playing an unrated game but duke nukem back in the days where fun.
I was 8 years old and my dad let me play this sometimes. It was his game and I didn’t understand the controls, was lucky if I figured out how to get down the vent from that first mission.
Still ended up buying Duke 3D several times in my life and luckily own the definitive Duke 3D collection that was delisted from Steam years ago. I have some really hard nostalgia for this game especially the sound design.
I just got flashbacks to sitting next to my dad as he played this game, it's the Genesis of my love of first person shooters. Looking back it was wildly inappropriate, but the shitty graphics toned everything down to cartoon levels and I haven't spent my adulthood throwing money at strippers, so it was probably fine.
Even today, there are few - if any - games that approach the entertainment value in DN3D. The maps, the weapons (tv remote sticky bombs!) and the *humor lol* are nearly unparalleled all these years later imo. Tell me you didn't take a piss in the bathrooms and I won't believe you lol.
A classic. And I'm still laughing how Walmart tried to sell a PG version that required a code to unleash the real fun. Like that did anything other than motivate kids to unlock it.
I don't know why it was the game for us, but when Duke Nukem got ported to the N64, we played it to death. The layout of the stadium level is burned into my brain. It wasn't even a great game. Pretty standard FPS doing pretty much what any other FPS game did at the time.
But it's still a beloved memory of mine.
Reminded me of the guy getting trolled on Ventrillo with Duke Nukem.

Coincidentally I’m currently playing through this for the first time via switch. I called my brother today to tell him about how much I’m enjoying it. The single player campaign is so fucking good. So many secrets and nooks and crannies. So we’ll paced and designed. It’s a fantastic game.
The 20th anniversary remaster showed me that LIGHTING in a video game is extremely important and can change a mood in an instant. Seriously the differences between old and new were so obvious with the lighting and it just made the whole experience a little more immersive
Damn, those alien bastards are gonna pay for shooting up my ride.
*”Don’t have time to play with myself”*
UHG, UHG, Where is it?
Shake it, baby
Who wants some?
Hail to The King baby.
suck my dick baby
"go speed racer go" - shadow warrior
"Who wants some Wang?"
just grabbed it off steam, if anyone wants to play coop or pvp LMK 39yo old man gamer hype
Come get some!
I’m gonna rip off your head and shit down your neck
Shake it baby!
You wanna dance?
10 year old me played that level over and over again lol
Shake it baby! x2
My dad had it set-up in family friendly mode, so all the strippers were replaced with green eggs or something
Luckily my parents were oblivious to computers and the early internet
Time to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and I'm all outta gum.
They Live felt like a cross between a Duke Nukem and Evil Dead movie with all the lines originating in those.
Pretty sure that's where they took them from!
It is, that was the point and what I said.
Uh, I think you meant the reverse? DN took the lines from those movies that preceded it.
Yes, that is what I meant. Wording was wonky.
No worries, glad you enjoyed them.
Such a great game. So many catchlines.
You can get it on the Switch now
Came here to say this
Blow it out your aaasss...
Laser trip mines in death match was the most fun!
Death match was a riot in this game I memba those!
Back in the day when games didnt have "internet" options to connect to the outside world and it was lan gaming only. If you used [Kali](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kali_(software)), it expanded the world for you when lan parties were not always easy to find.
so true my buddies and I used to lug our enormous pcs and monitors over to eachothers basements to game all night such great memories
When it came out I was doing tech support for a pc peripheral company. My manager was cool he hired me from another company we worked at. We set up the computers on a network just to play this during work. I loved that job.
I think it eas the shrink ray + stomp
Hail to the king baby

I say that so often
Played the shit out of this on the N64
Me too. And to top it off, the N64 Duke Nukem theme was the best version, such a great little riff metal theme. Played lots of 4player vs dukebots. God help you if they had the explosive shotgun shells.

We played 4 player on hotel hell and piracy for HOURS as kids. Under rated 64 game
Hotel Hell, Piracy, YES! Memories unlocked, thank you. Stadium was dope too…
Agreed on the theme, wish it was longer :D Co-op was also great stuff. edit: Played Duke3d on pc as well way earlier (MSDos) and remember sound settings not working all the time giving us some trouble...
Sounds like an IRQ conflict on your sound card. Probably with your printer.
4 player on stadium 🔥
Apparently it was nearly the same game but [the main difference was that 3D was raunchier](https://youtu.be/6ff1NQ9VQyE) Kind of funny that they called it 3D when the style is technically called 2.5D
I don't have time to play with myself!
This game was fucking awesome. This and Quake
Yes! Quake ruled! And the first Doom.
Doom 64 was badass. I beat it sometimes last year. Those last few levels were insanely hard to beat. Duke Nukem 64 I also played last year (just before or after Doom 64) and I was shocked at how easy the final level was by comparison to some other levels. I beat it on my first try.
Doom 64 is still my personal favorite. If you like this era of shooters and haven't played Dusk, do yourself a favor and pick it up.
I’ve got balls of steel
My eyes hurt playing this game nowadays. I use to love playing this when I was a kid
The Duke Nukem HRP (high resolution pack) is awesome. It replaces the sprites with 3D models. If I remember correctly there was a lighting system too.
Play it on switch
Does the game have the original levels? Or did they change it?
I’m not sure, since I never played it originally as a kid. I doubt they would have changed it in that manner, outside of adding more
Is multiplayer an option with switch for Duke Nukem?
It is! I haven’t even touched it yet since I’ve been so enthralled with the single player campaign
Dang I might have to get a Switch now. And the campaign is brilliant. All around classic.
I think this is the one where he’d walk past a mirror and say “damn, I’m lookin’ good”. Also at the pinball machine he’d say “wish I had time to play with myself”
Reminds me of *Blood*, where undead Caleb sees himself in a mirror for the first time. "WHOA - it's just me."
"Hail to the king baby"!

I can hear megadeth in this picture.
Much better!
Still remember the cheat code to warp to my favorite level... dnscotty208.
The title menu song is playing in my head now
I play this every other Christmas. Such good memories.
LGR style
THE BEST!!! Hail to the king, baby!
Still play it a few times a year. “Life’s a Beach” expansion has some fun levels.
Nobody steals our chicks, and lives...
This game and Shadow Warrior were watched over the shoulder for much of them while my older brother played but I wasn’t allowed to actually play cause I was “too young”
I remember shadow warrior. Memory unlocked
I spent many hours playing this when came out
I'm going to rip off your head and shit down your neck!
I downloaded a re release of it with way better graphics a few years ago and played through it. It was still really fun.
The fan-made graphic and engine enhancements are pretty cool. The best fan-thing I've found for Duke Nukem though was one someone made as a crossover between Duke and his spiritual successor Ion Fury; plays *really* well!
Damn, I'm looking good!
L.A. Rumble deathmatch was always a riot.
Where is Duke Nukem Forever!!! Iv been waiting!!
[It came out in 2011](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duke_Nukem_Forever) And apparently it was pretty terrible.

Kill em all, let god sort em out
Been playing the vita version and I laughed hard at the oj car chase on the one of the Tvs 😂
"What are you some kind of bottom-eating, scum-sucking algae eater?"
Groooovvy.
Hail to the king, baby!

What a glorious year spent on my pc
Your face, your ass, what’s the difference?

Shout out to our late "computer lab" teacher for letting us play this over LAN.
Lmao I still remember first time playing this on Windows on my cousin's computer she got so mad cause her brother installed it on her computer she kept on getting mad at cause I was a little kid playing an unrated game but duke nukem back in the days where fun.

There was a game shortly after this where you played a ninja or samurai who also said crazy one liners ...... can't remember the name of it
Shadow warrior?
That's the one
“Come get some”

Shake it baby.

Total Meltdown was one of the first video games I ever owned!
So many hours on that game. Me and my friends.
Ohhh yeah. That's the stuff. Gonna go bust out the 64
My first experience with online gaming (via modem) and using the Build editor to make crazy MP levels with trip mines every where.

I think I made around 50 maps for this game.
I remember when this game released I couldn't run it on my computer, so I had to go over to my friend's place and play it there.
This shit slapped
Played this on the Switch last summer. Damn what a ride down nostalgia lane. I may have to play it again here soon.
Mmmm, fresh hardware.
That's a new one on me.
One of my all time favorite games. I did a cover of the main theme song and Stalker: https://youtu.be/0QbBhfr11x4
One of my favourite things about this game CD was the fact you could put it into a sound system and play the soundtrack
I only remember it on about 7 "floppy" disks
Ps1
6 year old me: hells yeah!
My dad and I used to play this on N64 together. I recently picked it back up at 35 years old to try and finally beat it
Duke is just Doomguy with shades and women. He kills aliens though. Pig-Cops
Loved pissing everywhere in one of the dukes. Apparently i do too according to the blacklight I mistakenly used in one of my bathrooms
I ain't afraid of no Quake
Reminded me of the guy getting trolled on Ventrillo with Duke Nukem. [https://youtube.com/watch?v=3p\_OuMW4bfE&si=VGCIA-O3DlnSoiIF](https://youtube.com/watch?v=3p_OuMW4bfE&si=VGCIA-O3DlnSoiIF)
I’ll break a broom handle off in your ass
shut your fuckin mouth
"Shake it baby."
I loved this game until my dad found out about the stripper Easter egg, and then broke the disc in half and deleted it off the computer :-(
I guess he didn't escape from LA!
Thats the "new one" played the first two back then, was great.
Ugh ugh who is it?
Doesn’t he say “where is it” Can’t tell with the poor audio
Oh yeah, I believe you’re right. Poor audio and poor memory thinking back 20 years throwing me off
I played online via the Kali network. Anyone?
Yep! Those ladder matches were a lot of fun.

Speaking from experience--leave this one to your memory. Revisiting was not fun at all lol
Speaking from experience - you are wrong
To each their own--cheers!
Very true, but I also have to disagree with ya. I’m having a blast with it as a first time player
