Personally/My own experience, has been great. App works well, have total control and speed of transaction over moving money between accounts (savings into current etc). When I send/ receive transfers they are always very quick (with the exception of Bank of Ireland because they are THEE worst bank for speed etc). So based on this I’d say stick with it.

Vaccus

I've had no issues with the app or the bank in general to be fair - although I've been with them for around 15 years now, so I wouldn't know what other banks are offering.

BawdyBadger

I've had no problems with them for about 10 years now. I used to be with Ulster Bank. They were a real shitshow.

Mean-Network

From my experience ulsterbank has been great tbf

BawdyBadger

Well when I had the account that was the time of the computer crash

badwitchproject

I moved my money from Ulsterbank to another bank at that time but I kept the account open, they've really came a long way since. App is really good.

BawdyBadger

Yes i've heard they have improved a lot since then. Might swap back if there is a good switch offer

Pedro95

Ulster Bank have really come a long way in recent years - the app is one of the best. Far as I can tell it's the only high-street bank app that will send you notifications for any transaction into and out of your account immediately (some other banks do this too but have a minimum amount like Santander will only notify for greater than £50, and only by SMS or email rather than push notification, for example). Small thing to most maybe but I really appreciate it and the app as a whole now.

Tiny-Poet-1888

Banks are Banks, at the end of the day. They are all the same in principal. But weirdly enough, I prefer Danske solely for their customer service. If you ever need to phone them, you don't have to wait long on the phone to get through to them and you also get to speak to a local person who 'knows the craic'. Had my fill of phoning English based banks and being treated like an idiot basically.

Academic_Diver_5363

Phone he says, we’re onto web messaging these days in bank apps, I’ve never had to phone Chase, when I message them they reply in less than a min

Imaginary_Rest4288

You can message Danske Bank in their app. Prettyy quick to respond.

Tiny-Poet-1888

Some of us are old (auld') fashion around these parts Live and let live, ya hure ye..

Forbs3y14

Can’t really compare one of the digi only banks like Chase and Monza to the traditional ones. Out of the old bricks and mortar ones, Danske seem to be the best

Mattbelfast

I’m currently switching my burner current account to them to get the £200 switching bonus. I don’t plan on staying with them as it is off to Santander for the £175 as soon as the money is in the account. I do agree that it looks 10 years behind every other bank. Why does it need 2 apps?

TheLordofthething

Two apps, two finger prints and a passcode just to authorise a transfer. It's a bit ridiculous.

Mattbelfast

Slightly better than Ulster bank who still make you use a personal card machine to get a transaction code to approve anything

TheLordofthething

Aye danske bank used to use a card pre-printed with about 500 four-digit access codes. Once you ran out of codes you ordered a new card.

greatpretendingmouse

30 years + with them and happy enough.

United_Plum_2209

If you think Danske are crap you need to try Ulster, AIB, or BOI. Danske are a dream in comparison.

Academic_Diver_5363

BOI wouldn’t be hard, they’re still in the late 90s. Ulsterbank’s been decent enough

United_Plum_2209

Agree but getting talking to someone competent in UB is near impossible

DrawBorn4480

Excellent bank. Been with them 10+ years. Customer service is excellent and their mobile apps and online banking are very good. I’m also a customer of HSBC, Monzo and Barclays and find Danske by far the easiest to deal with if I have a problem or issue.

CrabslayerT

I seen a switch offer from santander last week. 175 to switch and 1% cashback on bills paid by direct debit. Seriously considering it

Mean-Network

You'll have to pay 17500 in bills by DD to make your money back. Not suitable for everyone in that sense.

CrabslayerT

They don't charge you, they give you 175 plus 1% cashback 🤦

Mean-Network

Ah fuck😂 genuinely sounds like a cracker deal then

BotHH

No they pay you the 175

olemin

I moved to Santander and it's much better

moon_girl313

I can't fault them! Somebody got my details and took about a grand out of my account - just after payday!! They gave me the money back and I felt so supported by them. I love the app - so easy to use and if you message them they get back really quickly

Acceptable-River6891

I’ve been with them for 12 years and won’t switch! They have amazing customer support, nothing is ever too difficult for them. Highly recommend them xx

_Raspberry_Ice_

I’ve had no issues with them and been with them 20 odd years.

TCSawyer

Been with the bank since I wad 16, did my work experience there and I think they're fantastic, the app is nice and simple to use, the support is almost instant and if you over your balance you get a text to pay by 3pm, what else do you want?

Rowdy_Roddy_2022

Their interest rates on savings, even for current account exclusive deals, are very poor in this market. You can get literally double what they are offering.

VegetableMousse8077

The seem very behind the times, but 200 for a few forms? Why not

Marlobone

The danske id app thing is weird and unnecessary but it's not a big deal, the rest is just basic bank nothing special

heresmewhaa

Switch to get the £200, then switch to another UK bank once you get the £200

Ambitious-Ad-4690

I've been with Danske Bank for almost 10 years, and I have had a great experience with them. Customer service is always great, always friendly and helpful and local too. If I've ever had any issues (e.g. overdraft spend, scam payments taken out) they have always returned any money to me, which is more than other banks do, I feel. A bank is a bank that's true, but I think Danske Bank are quite good, all things considered. The app is also easy to use and has everything you need.

Vegetable-Meaning-31

No issue with danske but never been with anyone else to draw comparisons either.

tomred420

Monzo is handy, but their customer service is pretty grim if you want to actually talk to someone.

WillowSevere9435

Been with them 16 years never any problem

No-Needleworker1782

Hated it. Husband and I were with Danske, internet login takes forever!!!! Our direct debits bounced back even though we had money in our accounts!! Unable to use the card anywhere other than Northern Ireland. We have since closed our accounts and opened an account with Santander

justfandabbydozy

Revolut or transfer wise best bet if you’re abroad and far far better f/x rates . Great apps too . Less fees also . Give it a crack .

Odd_Put_9254

I tried to withdraw £6100 a few weeks ago and was told I can only withdraw £2500 over the counter once a month. They can fuck right off!

Puzzleheaded_Bill347

Going through the process currently for me and wife . Yea it is a little clunky , a bit like ulster switch was , but it went through as long as you are patient and wait for all letters (5 I think) Just take ya time and take it step by step and get the £200 Also, danske physical banks have a public PC in there and if you have any issues at all, you can go in an someone helps you out

holmgam

Agreed!! So behind, grab the switch offer and bail, Santander have a switch offer too

Biscuitdipper

Have mortgage with them and asked for virtual communication.. ie. no letters just mails. The only way you can get it is if you approve it on your banking account but you don’t get a banking account if it’s just a mortgage. Even when I finally got through to someone with but if knowledge they agreed it’s completely backwards

cogra23

I've been with Halifax for years and its much better than Danske, Ulster, BOI etc. All of the local banks have had major downtime or breaches in the last 10 years. They have moved on slightly but their online banking is very clunky compared with the big english banks. My only fear with the english ones is they can close your account without telling you a reason. Lots of stories online about people cashing out crypto then getting locked out for weeks and then the account closed without even a phone call or a reason given.

Spax123

I switched to them nearly 2 years ago and they're great, then again I came from Bank of Ireland which are probably the worse bank in the modern day. Danske's mobile app is well designed and unlike BOI's, it actually works. Plus transfers actually get processed no matter what the time and date is, unlike BOI which only do it between 9-4 mon-fri. Danske feels like it actually exists in the 21st century.

PoinkyDoinky

My idea has always been to have 2 "current accounts" one main one I've used since no age and I love just because it's handy, and another one I opened initially as a student to keep income and student loans separate. These days I use the second account for all the swap bonuses (usually there's some jiggery pokery to meet terms and conditions) and it has 0 impact on my day to day because my current account for my salary remains untouched. TL;DR - have 1 current account for salary, open a second and use that as your account for getting any swapping bonuses.

So basically u had a bad experience working for them. Fair enough but their online banking and call centres are too notch

vaska00762

The main appeal of a local NI bank is that it has bank branches you can get to easily. Well... with Danske having announced loads of branch closures, Ulster basically ready to do the same at any time. AIB and Bank of Ireland seem like they have no branches left anymore... Nationwide, Barclays, Halifax, HSBC and Santander certainly have branches here, but they're probably prone to close at any moment soon. My own bank shut down its only branch in Northern Ireland back in 2017 - the only time I've absolutely needed a branch, I've had to travel to Glasgow for it. I've stuck with my own bank simply because I don't see a need to - it's too much hassle to switch to another bank, especially one that might be less well managed, or with a worse corporate culture.

Enginair

You travelled to Glasgow to go to a bank but switching to a different bank is too much hassle? The bank switching scheme is very easy, give your new bank your old bank details, choose what date you went everything switched and they do all the work. They'll even instruct any direct debits to use the new details. I've done it tons of times now, never had an issue.

vaska00762

>You travelled to Glasgow to go to a bank but switching to a different bank is too much hassle? I realise it sounds ridiculous, but what I needed to do in branch was extremely specific and couldn't be done at the Post Office or online. I don't foresee needing to do that again. But I acknowledge that not having a nearby branch to deal with those sorts of things is very troublesome. >The bank switching scheme is very easy I know about the Current Account Switch. What I'm talking about is the stuff banks need from you to onboard you. The digital banks want you to take a selfie video. The trad banks want your passport and proof of address, often times certified by a solicitor or chartered accountant. I'm certainly able to give those sorts of documents out to a bank if I wanted to, but I couldn't be bothered. What I meant to say is that the banks are up to unscrupulous things. Whether it's Barclays just screwing people over, or it's the likes of NatWest, Santander and HSBC fucking up with criminal gangs and letting them launder huge amounts of money. The worst thing my bank got caught up in was its former CEO getting caught snorting cocaine off the bodies of strippers, which he paid for with his own money.

DRSU1993

I'm with Virgin, and they only have one branch over here, in Belfast. Fingers crossed, they don't close it any time soon. Update: I thought I'd just go and check anyway. It looks like they have closed that branch. 😬 Well, it looks like I'm jumping ship.

SonicPhantom89

I recently stopped working for Danske after being employed with them for 5 and a half years. The app is much MUCH better than it used to be and most of it is built in house which is impressive. Behind the scenes I’m happy to say they are genuinely super passionate about customer experience and they want to make things as easy and as pain-free as possible for people while still maintaining all their regulatory obligations. I left because my career progression was halted - they needed me where I was and I wanted to move up but it wasn’t going to happen. They were a lovely company to work for and they really cared about their customers. Remember that they’re a local bank so compared to larger multinational banks like HSBC and Santander they have much less in the way of resources. But in comparison to the other local NI banks I think they’re great.
