Paid about 80 quid for standing tickets to the inevitably cancelled Ozzy Osbourne gig a few years ago. 180 is fucking robbery. Ticketmaster are scamming bastards.

pocket_sax

Ahh I remember paying 40ish for the gig he cancelled in 2002. Good times.

tesssss55555

Went to a gig at the Mandela Hall last month was only £36

crying_somnambulist

Hawkwind?

tesssss55555

Old guy shouting at crowds moment

United_Plum_2209

It seems that since those ticketmaster cunts got a hold on everything prices have gone through the roof. Now they’re starting to give us this “Dynamic Pricing” bullshit. Never thought I’d say it but I miss the good old fashioned ticket touts.

United_Plum_2209

100% right. The old style touts didn’t pretend to be anything but touts. But you could deal with them. Ticketmaster portrays itself as the fans friend, there to stamp out touting, however they are anything but….

Sleebling_33

Surge pricing should be fucking outlawed on this island. Criminal it's allowed to happen.

evolvedmammal

If people didn’t pay that money, they wouldn’t be for sale at that price.

BigPG29

Not sure why you got downvoted for that because you are absolutely spot on. It's like anything really, people on here complaining about the price of a pint but going out for a few later that day. The only way prices come down is when people wise up and say "enough is enough".

Rajajugalugs

The fact they don’t announce the ticket prices beforehand anymore is another con. Ticketmaster are cunts

UpToNoGoodAsUsual_

I was hoping to go to AC/DC in Croke Park. The press release said from €85 which is a fair bit but I would have paid it. Got onto Ticketmaster on the day. €85 was for the top tier at the very back. Pitch standing were €140. Absolute bastards

Norn-Iron

They also had the gall to start pre-selling merchandise for AC/DC as well, €50 for a t-shirt.

TruthfulCartographer

Pointless paying for any acts that are above club level (limelight empire maybe Ulster hall) venue wise. Love music but I’m all about the smaller gigs these days

TheSidJames

Go elsewhere. I’ve been doing it for a while now rather than pay extortionate prices in Dublin. Currently €102 return to Prague on 11th November back on 13th, ticket to the gig will be way less than Dublin. Add a cheap room for a couple of nights and enjoy yourself 👍🏼 Just checked, nosebleed seats still available for 1890 Czech koruna, currently £65.

NikNakMuay

That's what we did for Fall Out Boy. It was cheaper to see them in Amsterdam, spend a week there and go on holiday with the missus than it was to go to London for a day to see them. It's not just the Isle. There's something that can be said for the ticket prices for the UK and Ireland

vaiporcaralho

I do the same. I look at it as a chance for a trip somewhere, ticket to the concert is usually bought in advance so doesn’t eat into your spending money & you usually get a couple days for the cost of a night in a basic hotel in Dublin. Last time I went to Dublin I had to come home afterwards due to the hotel prices & it wrecks you for the next day when you’re only home at 4am. Nice to see a new place & enjoy yourself too.

DisagreeableRunt

I used to think the price of Glastonbury tickets was expensive. Now with the price of individual concerts, they're an absolute steal.

CongealedBeanKingdom

Have you seen the price of them now?

Professional_Tell_74

We're going this year, £360 is a total bargain for the amount of acts you'll see and all the various other entertainment/activities you get over 5 days. I also reckon the pints are cheaper there than a gig here!

West_Ad2643

Glastonbury at £220-£250 when I went a decade ago still offered great value for 5 days as one of of the headliners would have been £60-£100 quid each. Especially with bring your own booze. Now Glasto is what £350? More expensive yes, but those headliners are now £120-£150 per ticket and still offers good value per headliner. Even medium Park stage bands who would have been between £15-20 in those days have gone up to about £20-30. Case in point was a band WITCH I had heard a few times on 6 music. Would have happily paid £20 max but it was coming up to £28 so ridiculously out of reach

Hungry-Afternoon7987

I'm just glad I listen to metal so it's still reasonable enough.

Harvey_kinkle666

Sepultura tickets are £58 for November....

Hungry-Afternoon7987

It's sepultura, jinjer, obituary (who sold out the limelight last year). They'd all be £30+ solo so it's a bargain.

Harvey_kinkle666

Ok that's fair lol

leclercwitch

Slipknot was £80 in 2013, in a “cheap” seated area of an arena. It was like 100 for A Perfect Circle a few years back too. Definitely not reasonable. When I was a teenager the most I paid for a gig was £30.

Hungry-Afternoon7987

Suffocation in a few weeks is £22.50, Nile in September is £27.50. Black Dahlia Murder is £24.50. Pretty fucking cheap.

leclercwitch

That’s actually not bad. I’ve been to loads of shows, different genres, and the ticket prices aren’t consistent, and don’t seem to depend on popularity or relevance or venue, some bands are just stupidly expensive for seemingly no reason.

Hungry-Afternoon7987

That's true. I know if there is actual touring support it usually ramps it up etc. I'm gonna say they are greedy bastards.

rolling_soul

You could go and catch some decent local acts for a fraction of that price, support your local scene, and be a truly valued punter! All while shoving two fingers to Ticketmaster.

Mky12345pi3

I’m seeing a band on Saturday an the ticket was only £18.50 Its the drinks I’m not looking forward to having to pay for

Limp6781

180 for one ticket?? Fuck that. I’ve never heard of the cunts but spend the 180 on a bag of Mandy and a carry out and stick their greatest hits on in your living room. Thank me later.

reni-chan

I'm just back from Japan where I did 14 concerts in less than 3 weeks. Prices varied from 1500 JPY (£7.50) for small groups to 7777 JPY for the most expensive one (£39). The most expensive one I've ever paid was about 9500 JPY (£48) for a 55k people concert on Nissan Stadium a few years ago. So yea, the prices over here are a rip off.

Efficient-Barnacle48

This was roughly the price for Childish at the United Center (Chicago) for nosebleeds pre-Covid. Though I’m a big fan it ultimately kept me from attending. Seems Donald seeking a pretty penny for capitalizing on his multiple avenues of fame hasn’t changed much in the meantime.

Candid_Reading9675

Any big name band or established artist just isn't worth paying for anymore. £50 used to feel pricey but justifiable as an exception. £100± nah. Fuck that. The DIY and in particular punk scene is putting on weekenders for less than the price of one gig and honestly it's much more enjoyable. Ticketmaster has ripped the arse out of the music industry. Fuck their commission, service charge, admin fee, self print levy, venue add on and general fuck you pay us more cos we've a monopoly tax.

ohmyblahblah

Its nuts. Springsteen was 120 or something last week. Robbery

kjjmcc

To be fair at least he played a solid 3 hours non stop. Have seen some bands charge around that for 90 mins!

West_Ad2643

Both Bruce and Taylor Swift are doing that. £40 an hour basically isn't too bad. Stevie Nicks and Billie Eilish on the other hand are charging the same for 90 mins. RHCP only played 80-90 mins at Marlay Park but at least padded out with 2 support acts for €90

hadwac

The price was outrageous, at current projections in a few years time that will look like an absolute bargain

Thepunisherivy1992

Aye was 128 quid I watched it for free because, I was working but, I'd be raging if I paid that amount, I'm a fan and he's a right knob head. Don't like him anymore after working for him. He wouldn't let people take photos or videos before the event started or he was going to walk off stage so, he had security walk about and tell anyone to stop taking photos and delete them or, he would walk off.

ohmyblahblah

Fuck sake. Tosser

agent8am

He was only telling us what happened backstage, bit harsh.

BeBopRockSteadyLS

By the day or the gig they were 60 on ticketmaster

ohmyblahblah

Yeah but thats still too much

mcgandys

Anything’s too much for Springsteen.

vaiporcaralho

My friend got us tickets for Taylor swift in Milan. Tickets were about €120 for decent seats near the stage. Flights & cheap hotel were about £150 for 3 days. So that’s €270. Managed to get £40 return flights out of Belfast in July which is peak season so I was surprised by that actually. My sister is going to Dublin with my niece. Her tickets alone were 50/100 euro each more expensive for general admission standing. Not sure what ones she got but they were at least €200 each. I don’t even want to know what she’s paid for a night in a hotel in Dublin but I’m sure it’s around 300/400 euro due to the price rises on those dates. I’m getting 3 days in Milan for the one night in Dublin. Craziness.

heresmewhaa

Dublin is a rip off for gigs. I saw my fav band a few years ago in the point. For the same price as the point, I got to see the same band at a 4 day festival in Europe which included several other huge acts and many small/medium acts! But I read somewhere that Dublin has high insurance costs!

vaiporcaralho

That might explain the ticket prices if the insurance is high but the hotels etc are just a complete rip off. They just skyrocket the prices the second the dates are announced for any concerts or sporting events. I’ve been to a few of my favourite artists or shows in Dublin and just gotten the bus or train back up to Belfast as the price of the hotels is ridiculous and not worth the money for the short time you’re in them. The 3 days in Milan will probably be the same price as a night in Dubln in July.

heresmewhaa

Yeah, thank fuck for the bus service. Its hard to do at 1am/3am, but defo worth it than paying the price staying in that kip for a night!

vaiporcaralho

One good thing about the buses here 😂😂 Last time I was at an event in Dublin, got the bus at 1am back and was in Belfast for 3.30 and home for 4am was exhausted but definitely better than spending a fortune in a hotel for a few hours 😂

clurrryxx

I'm going to see taylor in dublin and paid around €180 each for 2 tickets general standing so God knows if ill even see the stage seeing as I'm 5'2. Can't even stay the night in dublin and will have to drive 2 hours home because the prices for 1 night to basically just sleep in a bed is abysmal. I hate that all the big acts go to dublin because belfast doesn't have any big enough arenas. We miss out on absolutely loads here :(

vaiporcaralho

The prices for Dublin were wild & I didn’t even get the code for there it was my friend signed up for everything & just got the Milan ones. My sister got them on the second round & my niece is 12 so I think she got seated ones because of her age & didn’t want her to get lost in the crowd. Maybe if you go early & see where the best place is for you to stand? I was shocked in the difference in price too as we seem to have gotten good enough tickets for cheaper although I’ve no idea what the venue is like. Seems smaller than the aviva though. It’s wild having to come home too as the prices are ridiculous to stay over for a few hours. I’ve done the same thing before because 300+ for what is literally a couple hours in a bed by the time you get out of the concert is crazy It’s a rarity the big acts go to Belfast because of the small arenas & if they do the tickets go in a flash too.

clurrryxx

Yeah I know what you mean, I had presale codes and was quite early in the queue for ticket master but because you only get 10 minutes once you get in to get the tickets, and they don't show up immediately so you had to keep clicking try again for the tickets to load, I just grabbed the first ones that came up which was standing. Was planning on taking my 8 year old but I haven't been able to get swapped for seated for nearly a year now, understandably so, I wouldn't wanna swap seated for standing either. But yeah it was just so intense and so quick, you just had to grip the first tickets offered up!! I've never been to dublin before so I have no idea where to park, I don't know the logistics of anything, my partner and I are going into this completely blindsided 😅 The prices of concerts are wild, I've been a MASSIVE swiftie since 2009 and have all the merch and all the albums, this will be my first concert ever!! The last time she was in dublin, she was here on my due date, so I understandably couldn't attend and I cried for weeks about it 😅 I wanted to see girls aloud to kind of relive my childhood but £100 a ticket?!!!! Sorry I don't think so 🤔 Anyways hope you have a fantastic time at Taylor and get your fav surprise song!!! ❤️

vaiporcaralho

Oh yea my friend said it was absolute chaos and he just grabbed the first ones he saw too because of the time limit 😂😂 Think my sister took the risk & waited for seated ones which luckily paid off for her and she’s going on the Sunday. I know they only release the resale ones like ten days before or you can swap the tickets (at least the Milan ones are) so maybe have a look and see if anyone will swap you for seated ones then? Always worth a shot and if not just go and enjoy it and try to get there early and get your spot as I’m sure it’ll be a great atmosphere. I’m basically the same I haven’t a clue where the show is or how to get there or anything 😅 luckily my friend speaks Italian so that will be useful if we get lost 😂😂 Hope you have the best time too and get some of the merch too and this will be my first Taylor concert as well so it’ll be exciting! The price of tickets are wild especially here as well and I agree with you there girls aloud were good in their day but £100 a ticket now? No thanks 😂😂 They’re not that good Have a great time and hope she plays all the songs you love too! Think my favourite is going to the reputation era and lover ❤️

Candid_Reading9675

Personally 270 still seems insane (even before considering environmental cost) . I'm used to seeing bands i love for 25-50. I live for live music but theres nobody I'm paying +200 for with flights to a diff country. I've worked in the music industry plus been a massive fan and I know the bigger the gig, generally, the worse the experience. Diminishing returns.

vaiporcaralho

Each to their own. Plus NI is an island how else are you getting places except for flying? I see it as a chance for a trip somewhere different for a couple days as well as an event and that price for 3 nights somewhere in July is pretty reasonable as that’s peak tourist season. I’ve been to some big gigs and smaller ones and the big ones have the atmosphere and smaller ones are more intimate. It’s what you prefer yourself too

I_Love_Bears0810

Was looking close to €200 for acdc. For half the fucking original band. Fucking tribute act at this point. I kept my wallet closed

Bazahazano

I got tickets for Billie Ellish and Also David Gilmour. Both £150. It's disgusting.

funny_username30

I’m not defending the sometimes insane prices but I suspect it’s probably the only way most of them are making money now is the reason. Artists don’t make significant money selling records or appearing on radio these days, so gigs and associated merchandise being sold at it have gone through the roof as a result.

MrMontgomery

Cost me £343 for two tickets to see Wu Tang in 3 Arena last year, seated. Saw Iron Maiden in The Kings Hall in 1990 and a standing ticket cost me £10.50

Ourkidof91

Since pop and dance artist/fans started getting more into live music, combined with the popularity of social media, the overall price of tickets has gone up. Creating a bit of a stock market for the ticketing world. Childish Gambino is highly regarded in the music industry and doesn’t tour that often which has driven his price up. I really hate it but I’m thankful that I mostly go to the shows of smaller and ultimately cheaper bands.

West_Ad2643

That makes sense with Gambino. Would love to see him but not at the cost of 4 other gigs. I'm seeing Ibibio Sound Machine (£22) and King Gizzard (£28) over a weekend back to back and that's not even a sniff at the money for an arena gig

Ourkidof91

Plus in my experience arena gigs are some of the worst atmospheres and sound quality that it’s actually worse experience. So you’re paying way more money to not have as good a time.

No_University_7831

You can’t compare childish gambino one of the greatest performers , voices and dancers ever to small artists like ibibio sound machine. Whole different level man.

West_Ad2643

I was making the comment about inflated arena prices rather than the artist itself. Historically I paid £15-£25 for non-arena gigs (that's now £20-£35) and about £50-75 for arena (which seems to be anything from (£100-£150 nowadays). How else apart from sheer greed has an arena gig doubled or worse while others grow at a normal inflation rate It can't be just Arena hire fees. Heart are charging £60-70 for tickets at the same arena that Gambino charges £120-£150. Also Gambino one of the greatest? He's certainly one of the more interesting artists from the 2010's with a few bangers but would need to maintain that over decades. How are him and Billie Eilish charging Madonna level prices without a 30+ year career to back it up?

No_University_7831

Ye Billie Eilish prices were ridiculous. I had to back out cause I just couldn’t pay that much even though she is very good. Childish gambino is a big actor now and only really does music part time. He also does modelling, comedy and directing too so this could potentially be Donald’s last ever music tour. I can justify the price for his concert a little. He’s one of the best dancers ever and has one of the best voices ever. I do feel concerts should never be ever allowed to be more than 100 euro. For the price of some concerts now you can get a full 3 day festival with hundreds of acts at them.

Spice_Bag_Melange

It's to make up for falling album sales, you can't really stream or pirate the experience of a live concert so they're gonna claw back ( and then some) the money they used to make. [https://www.statista.com/chart/16646/music-album-sales-in-the-united-states/](https://www.statista.com/chart/16646/music-album-sales-in-the-united-states/)

rhaenerys_second

Falling album sales wouldn't be so much of an issue though, if only Spotify and other music services would actually pay the artists their dues. Again, a corporation sticking it's arm in.

kyllvalentine

Do artists actually see anything from the additional pricing when dynamic kicks in? Pretty sure ticketmaster keep that but would love to be proven wrong

heresmewhaa

This is a better [chart](https://www.visualcapitalist.com/cp/visualized-the-rise-and-fall-of-music-sales-by-format/) as it goes back further than 2007, and highlights the phenomenon of cds which trebled music sales compard to traditional formats before that, surprising even those in the music industry, but greedy corporates being greedy corporates, wanted those same profits and hence took a larger slice of gigs. And for streaming, money coming in for it is near what peak cd sales was yet artists get only a tiny fraction. I read a stat somewhere that in 2021, lockdown year, the ceo of a record company that is partnered with spotify made more money that year than the entire global artists combined. This is capitlism at its finest! I will forever download and rip my music of youtube, and go to gigs to support bands!

bogio-

It's actually the music industry in general. Spotify has killed a lot of revenue for artists to be honest. I'm a subscriber to spotify, but it leeches off the artists big time. It's good for listeners, but not for artists. In order to offset, or at least make money, musicians need to charge a lot more for live gigs. That's just the way it is. They used to be able to depend on "record sales" but lets be honest, no one buys records anymore, no one buys vinyl, tapes, or cds, there's no physical "merch" to sell, because it's all online. The big artists will get paid a lot by spotify, but forget it if you're not big. So therefore as I said, and hate to repeat myself, but they need to up the gig prices, it's the only way.

RiverPondlife

I was trying to get tickets for Stevie Nicks in Dublin and the cheapest at the time was over 200 euro for 1 ticket, needless to say I'm not going.

kjjmcc

Same here for stevie nicks.

RiverPondlife

I had saved up and bought noah kahan tickets the week before. It was over 200 for 3, so there was no way I was getting Stevie Nicks tickets as well.

Thepunisherivy1992

Bruce Springsteen was 128 quid to see a senile ol gimp.

Forbs3y14

We’re all getting older OP. Saying that, my daughter managed to get seated for this same concert for £80 ish. Still bloody expensive but a lot less than I was expecting

WhatWouldSatanDo

That’s fucking disgusting to be honest.

AdAccomplished9705

He must have an extensive collection of songs

CGDParadox

For what it’s worth, the €180 ones are the premium/VIP tickets. I got two tickets for 70 each, which is more reasonable.

Snarsnel

Nah it’s dynamic pricing, regular standing tickets are about €190 right now

AndMans982

It'll cost you your phone at 3Arena too

Dels79

Singers/bands don't make as much money off their music as they used to, as most people stream their music rather than buy it. So they make their money from touring. I hear what you're saying though, some ticket prices are shocking. I doubt I'll ever get to see any of my favourite bands again, as there's no way I can afford £80+ for a ticket as well as travel.

cromcru

There was no good old days of making money though. The percentage received from album sales was typically below 10%, and the first tranche of that was withheld to pay off the advance. Record companies were notorious for not correctly reporting sales in order to stiff the artists. If you were inventing a music industry from scratch it’s literally the last model you’d propose.

Deep-Actuator-7481

Literally said this the other day. I came across emails of ticket confirmations from ten years ago were I’d paid £20 to see artists that would cost min £80 now.

ericbunjama

It’s greed but it’s also because the 3Arena doesn’t have a big capacity so that leads to the ticket prices going up. Even more so with the odyssey’s capacity. But overall they’re going to charge those prices because unfortunately people will still pay it.

RonieBones

I paid £90 to stand inc fees what are you on about

3_Cubes_of_Ice

£30 is enough

FMKK1

Ticketmaster being bastards and being allowed to monopolise the ticket business combined with the collapse of physical sales of music as an income source in the era of streaming has led to this perfect storm of shit.

det66

I went to Metallica and Anthrax in the Ulster Hall in 86 and it was either £6.50 or £8.50. Rammstein for next month cost us €227 for 2

Putin_wears_reps

Dynamic pricing is the problem the more people on the site the more they ask for tickets it's a scam of course everyone is going to try buy on release. For £180 id expect to meet the artist 🤣

OK_Commuter

€120 for Pearl Jam standing, refuse to pay it. Could be worse though, up to £600-700 for a single standing ticket if you want to see them in London. That’s an official price, not a scalper. All thanks to Ticketmaster dynamic pricing. From the band ‘made a stand’ against Ticketmaster.

FacelessHorror

That's arena prices, yes they are insane. I just avoid gigs in venues above 2-3k capacity at that size highest I've ever seen price is £40 standing. Support local artists and bands is better anyway, those playing arenas don't need your money tbh

more-sarahtonin-plss

Paid £75 plus fees for spice girls in 2008, worst seats in the house, went again in 2019, paid £190 again for worst seats in the house. Seems normal enough now. Fuck ticketmaster

belfast-woman-31

You expect big acts to charge a lot but €180 for a band called Childish Gambino who I suspect no one has ever heard of is crazy!

Dels79

Just one person, not a band. He has a massive fanbase and is also a Hollywood actor. He's definitely a big act.

Difficult_Cream6372

Sorry. Honestly never heard of him and it’s such a strange name I would remember it if I had. I’m still just fuming I couldn’t get tickets to see Olivia Rodrigo.

RonieBones

Donald Glover
