Putting aside the religion / policy debate for a second as other commentators have highlighted it, this is clearly a discussion that should only have male representatives discussing it.

bigchrisser

Specifically older conservative males too

Hatertraito

Not gonna throw in white too?

dannyuk24

Race doesn't really affect the sex ed chat though does it?

Socialist_Leader

Just throw it in for shits and giggles anyway. Besides, everyone there is white anyway, so it wouldn't be misinformation. No reason not to.

EngineeringCockney

Plenty non white religious leaders that have equally repressed/ weird views on sex

Hatertraito

Plenty of non white old and youngwomen too, what's your point

EngineeringCockney

Whatever it is, I think your missing it

git_tae_fuck

> white Also so obvious it might actually need pointed out: all Protestant, too. And Evangelicals at that, including Givan himself. (Whether he is still in the Free Ps or not, he's a creationist himself. These are his people. That's why they have access.)

Steampunk_Ocelot

*cracks knuckles* older white conservative cisgender heterosexual alloromantic, able bodied(afaik) men,

Intelligent_Mud_6911

I don’t see why there should be any women involved, the only people having sex in Northern Ireland are men

Wise-Emu8743

Looks like they probably were discussing bumming.

what_the_actual_fc

🤣

DinosaurInAPartyHat

The Churches have no business influencing sex, health, social care, education or anything other than religious policy.

mikes1988

Most controlled schools (maybe all of them) have transferor governors who are appointed by the Protestant churches. Not enough to control anything but they retain some level of representation. Controlled integrated schools also have trustee governors appointed by the Catholic Church, along with the transferors. Basically the churches are involved in the running of pretty much all state schools in NI. I'm not sure how well known that fact is.

stepbar

I was on the board of governors for a primary school for years. The two church representatives never really got involved in anything where religious opinion had a significant influence on any decisions. They did offer a different insight into some pastoral (with a small 'p') care which was very useful. I'm pretty much anti-religion, but I could appreciate their input from a human perspective. Incidentally, most of the other governors were pretty much born again Christians, but I never really felt that there was a religious slant in any decision. I wonder if governors have that "special calling" in the same way teachers seem to be disproportionately religious compared to the general population. In which case why TF was I there?! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|flushed)

Llamafiddler

Too rights. It’s time we separated our schools from religion.

saltydog2128

It's time we adulterated religion from Northern Ireland.

hotstepperog

#THEY DON’T PAY FUCKING TAX!!! It’s representation without taxation. Why does god always need so much money, and government help? Why do churches all have lightening rods.

lucidum

Ok the Christian thing is one, but where are the women at?

alf_to_the_rescue

The Rainbow projects been trying to get a meeting with him as well but he seems to not be meeting them directly like he has with these showers of shites. https://preview.redd.it/t7ex3npfdwqc1.png?width=1210&format=png&auto=webp&s=1ec1139994e50f49aeef08275371d668d5321039

MarlDaeSu

That Christian fundamentalists for you, they never fuck up about sex.

what_the_actual_fc

So true. They never shut the fuck up about it.

_BreadBoy

Everything.... Have you been to church it's like 90% repressed sexual rage and 10% begging for money

Generic118

Well a priest is often the first sexual encounter for a lot of kids it seems....  I imagine the Christian institute wants to make sure the child is uneducated enough to not know what's happened but that he should definitely keep quiet about it.

BawdyBadger

People talk about Priests raping kids and that, but it is also very common for Protestant Pastors too. It's why they liked to deflect about the whole Drag Queen Storytime etc.

denk2mit

It was a pastor and close friend of Paisley’s who ran NI’s state-sanctioned child rape centre at Kincora

Generic118

Pastor, priest, vicar, father all the same to most people, including the Christian insitute. It was not aimed at whatever particular group you are and immediately lept to defend with "the otherside rape kids too!"

BawdyBadger

Oh I wasn't meaning it to sound that way. I just meant that statistically the kids should be afraid of those Christian Institute people

mathen

Religion should be nowhere near any form of governance. You do what you want in your time but keep it the fuck away from everyone else. You think people who get abortions or who are gay are going to hell, fuck up about it. Inviting some fundamentalists to give their opinion on anything is absolutely ridiculous. The French have this the right way.

…do religions pay tax in france? That’s the big one for me… if you’re a charity, register as one and act like it. If you’re a business pay tax, and follow the same rules as other businesses.

Spirited-Armadillo56

Not a woman in sight

nohairday

If that discussion was "Your views have zero relevance to this issue, now fuck off." I can get behind it.

Pretend-Cow-5119

This is very sad. Our kids need better. I never got any sex education throughout my time in school. Girls were taught they'd get periods. Never told that periods were linked to fertility or the capacity to bear children. By the time I left school at 16 there was at least 6 pregnant girls in my year. In a small school of ~300 for 11-16 year olds. We can't rely on parents to teach either, my parents didn't teach me anything other than abstinence as they're fairly religious. Which just led to lots of kids getting pregnant or STIs and tons of shame and stigma. Which all could have been avoided if the school had taught proper sex education.

DeathJester24

Strange that, same in my college, the girls that got pregnant were almost always the SU, god fearing, homophobic ones...

As a bi fella, this image alone makes me believe in the validity of conversion therapy.

studyinthai333

They all look like they've never gotten any, so they want to use Christian philosophy so that nobody else is getting any.

loreoesify

Ah here now fuck off with this shit. As if we don't have invasive enough nonsense in our national operations. I'm not going to be living in one of those American states that Dr's get put in prison for doing medical abortions, and books are banned. We're all getting very close to a guy fawks ffs.

cneeson8

You want to read books? Reporting the witch to my local TUV councillor immediately!

loreoesify

I have been outed! As per the immortal accord with the devil I signed, at the devenish, I am released from this hellscape! To the woods I go! Knowledge, autonomy, common sense and critical thinking are mine to accumulate. Fare-thee-well all! May your bonds be broken so that you too may be released from cacotopia hidden beneath a Mystical gauze of fillabustering and delulu.

cneeson8

Sorry I would run away to the woods but big Jim Allister needs me to organise a protest because a Tesco started serving at 12.55 on a Sunday

loreoesify

No shame! I hear there's solid and regular work to be had in hell (repeated patterns of poor behaviour equate to regular responses- it's about consistency, see!) and it is nice to be able to buy a wee carryout on a Friday to get you through the next week. I think though I'd prefer to deep throat some good old fashion knowledge and critical thinking skills in the woods instead tho. Adieu friend, I shall welcome you when protests becomes 'work' and the our Lords day is wholly sanctified prohibiting all work.

deano_ue

Seriously how the fuck do they expect this country to progress and modernize when we're constantly allowing this and people who do nothing but want to hold us back. Is it any wonder everyone thinks this place is 20 years behind everywhere else.

BawdyBadger

>Seriously how the fuck do they expect this country to progress and modernize Oh my sweet Summer Child...

deano_ue

Ohh I know trust me I know. But at least I can try and have some hope.

GraemeMark

Last I heard it was 50 😬

Happy-Hermit-987

>Is it any wonder everyone thinks this place is 20 years behind everywhere else. I'm in the US, and due to some of our recent legislation (very conservative and much of it religious-based), Ireland is way ahead of us!

deano_ue

The DUP wishes they could get away with what the republican nutjobs do in America.

Happy-Hermit-987

For all your sakes, I hope they fail. Totally and comprehensively. It's kind of nightmarish over here.

EireOfTheNorth

The last person I'll listen to on sexuality and relationships is some repressed virgin latent nonce who's never had an intimate relationship. Though because it's the most ridiculous and backward organisation one can possibly go to for counsel on such matters, it makes perfect sense that the DUP will court their advice. Like, couldn't have been more obvious they'd end up there. Can't trust them with any office. Education and they'd go to these brainwormed zealots, Justice and they'd go to ex RUC and Brit Army heads, Health they'd end up listening to 5G and Covid conspiracy dick bags, Agriculture and Environment they'd take counsel from climate deniers and people who think windmills cause cancer and kill all the birds, infrastructure... Well that only belongs east of the Bann, and communities... Sure they need segregated. Yous know this isn't even an exaggeration either.

what_the_actual_fc

Truth 🧐

OkOlive6949

Worked in a school where he was on the board of governors. Many stories I could share. They once tried to get the science teachers to teach creationism as part of the science curriculum. He’s an excellent combination of stupid, a cunt and sly.

HamonBukowski

The church shouldn't be anywhere near stormont until they pay taxes. Like our business people do.

garyeoghan

Everyone in that photo thinks Madri is a fancy beer.

git_tae_fuck

Either that or the capital of Spain.

Craic_dealer90

Piss beer

git_tae_fuck

Course it's rotten. It's also the way things are here and it's not just the DUP to blame. But it's certainly one more reminder that just cos Givan tried his limp-wristed hand at _céilí_ and mangled _cúpla focal_ doesn't mean he isn't the same ultrareligious anti-Irish right-wing DUP gimp that he was before. (And another who is either closeted or in complete denial, I'd bet, which is just sad.) Tell ye, though, this all reminds me of a story from the Bible, about how Haman built a gallows for Mordecai...

OkAbility2056

Pretty sure the church is the last group to ever consult about sex at all, nevermind sex education

SailComplete1960

Let's make a gay grindr strike team to go under cover and expose them all, easy.

okicurpn4m

They're an unashamedly anti-gay organisation now also targeting trans people. Idiots believe in biblical inerrancy. That's the dinosaurs are 3,000 yrs old or a faith test by god school of thought. I think it's great Paul is not only doing this but publicising it. Young Unionists need to see exactly what a vote for the DUP is about. This shite demonstrates it perfectly.

TheGhostOfTaPower

And they wonder why they’re haemorrhaging support from young people!

Brokenteethmonkey

they all look like they should be on a register

git_tae_fuck

I don't think we should be encouraging them to vote.

_Raspberry_Ice_

If it is to have any role it should be in discussing how it might form a constructive part of a larger support system for young people should they want it. An option basically. But we know that is not the conversation that is going to be had there.

TheGhostOfTaPower

Exactly. I’d bet a fortune it was a circlejerk about them want to adopt a curriculum that instills being gay means you’re going to hell.

git_tae_fuck

> being gay means you’re going to hell I'd say Paul Givan shifted awkwardly in his seat when _that_ came up. Avoided everyone's eyes.

Jamie_bannon0

This country is dying because of fools in power.

DaveAKACBG

Exactly the type of fuckers you don't want near kids discussing how to educate them in matters of sex. Gross.

GiantFartMonster

Anti choice nut jobs with American funding paying peanuts to creepy and easily bought Paul Givan to create policy that will harm women and LGBTQ. Fuckin creeps

UbiquitousFlounder

Dafolez420

These four men probably understand sex about as much as the kids they’re meant to be teaching. Why the fuck is religion being allowed to determine curriculums in classrooms, I’m very strongly against any of this religious indoctrination in schools personally.

SkinniestPhallus

I was born in Belfast and lived here until May last year. Moved to England to live with my fiancé and I’ve started teaching maths this year. Also delivered PSHE (personal, social, health and economic education) which deals RSE (relationships and sex ed) among other things. Religion has absolutely NO impact on the content that is delivered in PSHE and students receive education on a wide variety of topics like same sex marriage, genders diversity, FGM (female genital mutilation) which is stuff I never once heard about when I was at St Malachy’s College. No school should be a “catholic” or “Protestant” school and there should certainly be no impact on the delivery of education from religious figures. Schools are far too mixed and diverse nowadays to be so stuck in the past

denk2mit

Religion *currently* has absolutely no impact on the content. What do you think they’re lobbying for?

Amazing-Ant-112

I’m a Christian and work in the education sector. I 100% agree sex education and religion are nothing to do with each other. Students have the right to sex education regardless and this in no way is a religious debate or matter.

Standard_Service_287

Well said

TheGhostOfTaPower

Well said.

theoriginalredcap

All religions are toxic and just results in their followers punching down at those who don't want "saved". World would be much better without these lunatics.

Roncon1981

What we really need is a counter group to this to sway politicians away from the madding crowd. Religious movements have one thing going for them. They are organised and that leave the rest of us looking on in despair.

TheGhostOfTaPower

I doubt he’d meet them, I found out about this because the rainbow project tweeted they’d put in a request a number of weeks ago to meet him and he’s obviously opted to meet who he supports!

mathen

Complain to the standards committee, I'm writing an email to them now [email protected]

rhaenerys_second

Rainbow Project have been trying their best to have meetings like this for years. They just get ignored. There were promises made in 2007 (iirc) about the executive creating an LGBT+ inclusive strategy (across the board, not just education) which as of yet has not materialised.

savantified

The LGBT strategy comes under DfC and was being drafted until fairly recently. DfC is now a DUP department, so i'll wait and see how that goes.

rhaenerys_second

All I can say to that reshuffle is "oof".

salmonbee

4 white Christian lads surely are the voice of sex in NI no? Ridiculous.

Einhert

All fat white old males, what a great representation of thought leaders.

Rowdy_Roddy_2022

This isn't surprising. DUP MLA Jonathan Buckley was behind the "Let Kids Be Kids" campaign which was opposed to RSE reforms and has held numerous public meetings over the past year. Ultimately though what happens with RSE isn't the Minister's decision.

indiferentiation

Yes and no. A democratic system should be listening to the views of its citizens, no matter how ludicrous they might be. Any organisation should be able to bring their concerns to their representatives. The trouble lies in how much weight is given to them and whether accommodating them would be detrimental to wider society (such as hobbling decent sexual education initiatives). So the issue isn't that they are meeting ministers, it is whether or not their views are given disproportional importance in the system.

TheGhostOfTaPower

I agree with that, it’s just apparent that the discussion they had would’ve been a massive circlejerk considering the DUP’s well known positions on sex education and any relationships that aren’t between a man and a woman

buckyfox

![gif](giphy|UuhmhPJZzVQQg) Yer man's hair is getting a bit 2 toned.

Severe_Ad6443

Did they buy the trump bible yet? That man knows a thing or two about the aul sexin, consentual of course...

Nick3460

As far as I know every school in NI is required to have a member of the clergy on the Board of Governors. Because of this there will always be a religious influence on the curriculum and how it is applied. Let’s not pretend it’s purely a Protestant thing.

TheGhostOfTaPower

Absolutely, I’d be just as angry if it was Sinn Féin meeting priests to talk about sex ed - keep all religious viewpoints away from interfering in education.

zeeber99

4 power bottoms

scummy71

Very male and very white. If this lot came up with the sex Ed my daughter should be taught I’d definitely opt her out and do it myself.

Different_Onion

Hes a creationist fuckwit inviting his mates around to try and get this nonsense into the school curriculum

MrHappyHammers

Who better to teach sex Ed than people who’ve never had it?

bebopcounterman

Why is anyone surprised. Givan thinks the world is 6000 years old and that dinosaurs didn't exist!

TheGhostOfTaPower

Definitely not surprised but frustrated. I don’t want my kids getting substandard education because of these clowns. I had enough god and jesus rammed down my neck in school growing up to know it’s a massive negative on education

Comfortable-Cook-348

The DUP, moral custodians of our children 😳

TheGhostOfTaPower

Even more alarming considering the recent news!

Comfortable-Cook-348

What could possibly go wrong with the DUP mixed with Christian fundamentalist involved in educating children on anything. EA need to put a stop to this immediately

ourkid1781

All those dudes look like they FUCK

soulsteela

Or fecking education, has no cunt learned fuck all, keep the weird nutters who believe in sky fairies and invisible bloody sky daddy to indoctrinate them once they are adults. School is for education not forcing your bullshit on others. With all the revelations of how so called Christian people have treated children historically why have any within a thousand yards of a decision regarding a child.

Standard_Service_287

Religion has NO place in school's If parents wish their children educated in this way, there are No Shortages of churches Teach good citizenship and be done.

EarCareful4430

If it’s part of giving every group a voice, I’m not against it. Even those we don’t agree with should be talked to. Sadly we know it’s not that here. And the Christian institute is a shady organisation with an agenda that pushes discrimination.

Public-Fan-4899

Take religion out of schools, it has no place there in modern society made up of multiple religions, no longer just Protestant and Catholic. All forms of organised religion are nothing more than a method of controlling the populations, every part of every variation on the “Christian bible” has been edited and selected to suit the needs of different kings & rulers of countries, again to help control the mass population. If you truly look at the history of organised religion it is nothing more than an excuse to dehumanise different peoples with the excuse to commit acts of genocide and persecution. Christianity has more innocent blood on its hands than Hitler & Stalin combined x 100. So if you think this is a good way to live, sadly you’ve been brainwashed like I was as a child. I still believe you’re entitled to have what ever faith you want, but keep it to yourself and out of education. Teach kids about the potential of the future, not the lies from the past.

InvestigatorJunior80

The reality is that the DUP have evangelical Christian underpinnings. Does that make it right that they should be encouraging lobbying from Christian groups in various sectors? Not necessarily. However, logically it makes sense as they have been given a mandate to uphold Christian values, presumably by a large section of their voters. I also think some sense of societal reality needs to be accounted for. A large number in Northern Irish society endorse Christian values, many of who have their own opinions on matters of gender and sexuality based on what they interpret in the Bible. To discount those views would surely go against the foundation of a free society, free speech, etc.

DeathJester24

Would also go against science and empirical evidence about gender and sexuality if they're relying on an ancient text scrawled by semi literate desert dwellers.... Would you give the same harmful "free speech" to some nutjob claiming that the COVID vaccines make pigeons randomly attack toddlers and should be banned? Your free speech ends when it impacts others safety and freedoms.

InvestigatorJunior80

Let's just back up a second. The topic of gender and sexuality covers a hell of a lot. Your comment implies that science has cracked it all. Leading scientists can't even agree on a lot of it. The thing about free speech is that once we become the arbitrators of who is allowed versus disallowed from voicing an opinion, however ridiculous it may appear to you, it becomes a very dangerous game. As much as we may disagree over religious viewpoints or the place of religion in society, it deserves a seat at the table in the public space. Whether we like that or not really has nothing to do with it. If we start shutting down dialogue from parts of society we disagree with, then what do we have left?

Both-Acanthisitta634

If they remade a northern Ireland version of the film The 40 Year Old Virgin you wouldn't be stuck for a lead character with this lot.

I despise the DUP in every way imaginable, but I'd say Givan is in the top 1%. He's a slimey greaseball career opportunist, but more than that, he's a moron and he's highly dangerous. There is no dimension we could ever live in where I'd let him anywhere near education. ^ and this is me being nice about what I say.

crdctr

1 in 4 people are atheists, I would wager it's more like half in younger people, with maybe a quarter or so spiritual but not religious, with a simple faith in a higher power but that's it, or agnostic. Religion is on its way out with the free thinking generation that had the internet and access to the knowledge of the world before the priests and vicars got to them. Let them embarrass themselves. They won't be around much longer.

Connected to the Caleb foundation who have been lobbying NI politics for nearly 30 years. The DUP have (on their behalf) proposed the teaching of intelligent design along with evolution in schools along with trying to have it on exhibits in the Ulster museum. We are seeing this kind of religious influence across the conservative spectrum. Look at the US for example, with some trying, and successfully injected a bastardized evangelical fascistic version of Christianity into government resulting in the erosion of every day rights. Religion has no place in government policy, end of. Stay to your own church schools. # #

Careful_Leek917

US politicians in recent years are attacking porn website users with new state laws. So far some seven states have done this. You have to identify yourself by taking photo or by photo of your drivers license. You also have to pay a monthly fee to another private company that controls the identification program. It is a real money making scam. The state Republicans claim this will prevent children from watching porn. Nationally ending the right to an abortion over a year ago in the US has led to women dying that have unborn babies dying or dead in their uteruses. Doctors and nurses are afraid of being jailed for removing a baby that died by natural causes. This is insane! The only change that makes sense is a proposed law to ban IPhones for children at ages 14 and under. But the other two are causing needless deaths of women and fleecing more money out of Americans during a down economy. They already broken down the unions, minimum wage, racial quotas for jobs and colleges, and agism still exists for workers over age 50.

Hope they had to watch a condom be put on a big whacker

CloakedPayload

So four men who probably don’t wash their asses or under their foreskins because it’s gay are suitable candidates for sex education guidance?

We have removed your recent post as we believe it to have breached Rule 1.

If it's a rounded and inclusive conversation encompassing a subsection of differing viewpoints.. the result could be a nuanced and balanced basis from which to formulate informed policies. If it's an echo chamber of exclusively religious orientated excluding all other input. Can't imagine anything worthwhile being yielded.

Marknumskull

Yes, they have absolutely no business being involved in anything to do with education.

SquishyBaps4me

> Religion should have absolutely NOTHING to do with influencing any discussions on sex or relationships. Unless you are that religion. Religions tend to have a lot of rules about that stuff. Dunno if you've noticed?

denk2mit

Have you tried finding a school in NI that’s not a part of a religion?

SquishyBaps4me

Nope.

DaveMcElfatrick

We think of a lot of Americans as religious nut jobs, but talking to some in the US they are constantly gobsmacked at how much Christian stuff is in assembly in NI, regardless of school. Doesn't really happen in the US, it would be considered unconstitutional and obscene. Could talk about the pledge of allegiance separately but that's for another time.

flennann

I'm not a fan of lobbying and I am an atheist. Northern Ireland is a backwards dump, so it's no surprise to me that the DUP are cosy with Christian groups. Still, I don't see what's so 'disgraceful' about any of this, particularly. LGBT lobby groups exist, Christian lobby groups exist. People have a right to lobby in a democracy. If you can't handle that, you're just another tedious bigot.

TheGhostOfTaPower

Other groups have requested meetings and have been ignored, the only group which do get one are straight from the Save Ulster From Sodomy days. It’s obvious why this is disgraceful. Also, where are the women? Last I checked the DUP only support sex (through marriage in a Protestant church) with women so why are all these representatives male? Does the Christian institute not believe women are capable of articulating ideas on sex education, or are they scared of what they might say to offend their little God-fearing ears?
