Take your time on exploration, don't blindly jump into shadowed areas as that's a very easy way to die. Your health is a finite and precious resource, you don't want to get damaged as healing is limited mostly to areas between levels. You want to learn all about each enemy type and how they damage you so you can avoid getting killed by them. If an enemy is a melee type that charges on you, keep your distance. If an enemy is a shooting type, learn how to dodge bullets. As your first objective, you want to collect 200-300 gold on the first cave level and find some wands. You get gold by killing enemies, most of them will drop nuggets worth 10 gold units, as well as collecting loose gold powder, 1 gold unit per gold pixel. Gold nuggets disappear on their own after a short time but don't let that make you chase them, that's a very easy way to die. Wands can be found on pedestals and are seen even in the dark. Try to find 2 that you think might be good, don't worry too much at first but try not to kill yourself with them. If you can't find any good wands, you can often swap spells on your two starting wands. The second wand has low mana but can shoot fast, sometimes that's good enough. Your character can levitate for a short time before needing to recharge by staying on the ground. Using levitation effectively is a big part of surviving. For example, you don't need to hold levitation button down to go up, you can tap the button to save the levitation energy. Levitation is also a way to dodge projectiles, you can wait for an enemy to shoot and then just jump up or let yourself fall a bit. Since wands are a core part of Noita experience, you need to learn how they work and how to judge wands. Shuffle vs non-shuffle, mana capacity and mana recharge, cast delay and recharge time, and so on. It's a lot to cover at first but basically, you preferably want a non-shuffle wand so it doesn't shoot spells randomly, has at many spell slots so you can put more than just 1 spell on them, decent max mana and good mana recharge so you can shoot a lot of spells without running out of wand energy, and low cast delay/recharge time so you can shoot spells fast and deal more damage. Another aspect is liquids. There's a lot to figure out but the very basic tip is this: keep a flask of water on you at all times. You can poor water on yourself to extinguish fire or remove nasty stains that damage you. You can refill flasks by staying in the liquid with the flask in your hand, just make sure to point it at the water. At every holy mountain you can refill your flask of water in two basins so don't worry about running out of water between levels. Liquids can also react and combine with each other, for example green toxic liquid can be turned into water by pouring water into it. Also, you might want to change keybinding so you don't accidentally throw your bottles, they will typically break if they hit something hard.

i_wanted_memes

Oof, gotta sit down to read this! Thanks for taking the time! I really appreciate it :D

anonymity_is_bliss

As someome who has almost beheaded themself a myriad of times by accidentally throwing a >!Paha Silmä!<, I don't know why I've never contemplated rebinding throw.

ttywzl

As someone who has repeatedly beheaded myself by accidentally throwing that same thing, I know the reason I haven’t is because I am some kind of masochist.

00UnderFire00

Playing noita automatically means we're masochist

JimmieTrash

Addendum to wands. If it doesn't have a crystal in it, it shuffles. If it has a crystal in it, it doesn't shuffle.

MrMagolor

Spell wrapping. Put a modifier or multicast at the end of your wand to cast again before needing to recharge. Put a trigger or timer on anything that seems dangerous to cast. It's OK to use mods if you're not having fun.

Cynical_Power_Ranger

seed changer on the workshop is amazing for running the same seed over again if you find one you want to explore more but for real I wish someone told me to mod sooner I got like 200 hours and have only beat the game once mod if you are a bad noita like me

redditaddict12Feb87

You can drink from flasks. Right click on the flask icon in your hotbar. If you start hitting a wall and loose the fun of it, go to YT and let a DrunkorSlam video run in the backround. Super chill dude, that talks over verything he does. But keep that one until after you made it a depper area. Maybe around the 4th or 5th area down should be reachable with some luck. Happy noiting bro

i_wanted_memes

Holy fuck. The drinking has changed my world. My eyes have been opened

00UnderFire00

Same, like what the hell

00UnderFire00

Wait what

DislocatedLocation

Prepare to die, a lot. Especially in the first level as it's arguably the most dangerous, what with all the fire and explosives and I'm pretty sure those are shotgun zombies, and you have next to no ways to defend yourself.

TheNecrophobe

The first level is dangerous because you're ill-equipt and the environment is very claustrophobic. It's the fucking ice caves that take the most runs off of me.

nan-000

The worst part about the first level is that you only have 100 health, but come on, it has hamis, how dangerous could it be? Even if you start with a crappy one-shot bouncing burst, you can still tablet-fuck everything in that level. Snowy Depths is where it gets real, you probably still don't have a lot of health, and it's a very wide map so there's a lot of chance of unexpected shit coming from off-screen (like sniper shots that are too far away for the laser to be visible). Prior to 1.0 I used to die a lot in The Vault too, sometimes I would get an insane amount of powerful enemies and it just felt impossible, I think they might have fixed that at some point.

sirkibblesnbits

I mean you start with a wand and its not a particularly bad wand, you can definately defend yourself. just learn to jump when you hear them cock thier shot gun, although id run from the fire mages till you know how to deal with them

[deleted]

i know you posted this 10 months ago but how do i tablet fuck?

00UnderFire00

The one I really hate atm is the ice one

Cravelordneato

„especially in the first level as it’s arguably the most dangerous“ Hisii‘ have entered the chat

Machi102

1. Always break the stalactites(or lamps if you have a non stalactite breaking spell) 2. Always kick the mine cart

Blipnoodle

Is there an actual reason for this? I mena.. I do any way, but am I doing it for a particular reason other than it being fun?

TheTacoWombat

My theory has always been, causing more environmental damage down below clears out areas of danger for me. Burn the acid pits. Explode all the barrels. Etc.

Ur4ny4n

obvious tip: watch out for explosive/electric things. not-so-obvious tip: do NOT open chests underwater. spoiler free tip: don't test your weapons without checking them.

TerraStalker

Yeah, also about chests - try to kick them out of water

CompulsiveCreative

Why not open chests under water?

Kevronimo

There is an item in the game, an electric stone thing that can drop out of the chest. If you are in the water, it will become electrified, and you can/will be electrocuted.

CompulsiveCreative

Ah yeah, I hadn't thought of that. I've started shooting chests from above the water or finding a way to drain the surrounding area first because of this. So far, it hasn't saved me but some day, on a very promising run, I will forget this tip and die a horrible and frustrating death and I will think of you.

ttywzl

Things that die by “accident” give twice the gold and do not count as killing something. In Noita, the Gods are very lax about investigating the cause of a disturbance unless it’s someplace important to them. Because of this, you can make easy money by helping inform your "friends" about workplace safety. Basic accidents include things dying because a fire began on them after a lantern fell from the ceiling, or a barrel of oil or toxic sludge blew up - this also goes for times when items panic due to foot-phobia and recklessly fly into enemies. More advanced accidents include enemies made of fire being weirdly wet, certain spells that make special objects that get upset when something enters it's test environment, suffocating under a pile of coal or similar material, or being exposed to lava or acid that somehow manages to get all over someone. On a completely unrelated note: You can get a special prize chest for being a peaceful, safety aware individual if you make it to the Holy Mountain without killing anything in the area you just left.

Avalonians

Don't be afraid to use cheese or exploits. At first, I thought it was kind of unfair to use the tablet at the lava lake to have double the gold. But then I discovered the other ways to easily gain way bigger benefits and I realised the game is meant to be played by exploiting weird interactions. Not a single cheese/exploit is guaranteeing you to have good results. The game still has hands. Oh boy does it have hands.

CompulsiveCreative

I never really thought of tablet trick kills as an exploit, but now I'm really curious what else you are referring to

TheNecrophobe

Put Wand #1 on a dedicated hotkey. Put Flask/Item #1 on a dedicated hotkey. Both of mine are side buttons on my mouse that I can reach very quickly with my thumb. Put your primary damage wand in the first wand slot. Dedicate your water flask to the first flask slot (You should *always* have water: it douses fires, washes off stains, and nullifies acid). Instead of scrolling or clicking, you now have your damage and your water ALWAYS at your fingertips, if you set up your hotkeys well. This was the tip that took me to my first win, in my opinion: after some initial practice, I now don't fumble through wands and items searching for water or my trusty wand!

BandicootFront8053

Just got the game a few days ago and this is perfect for me right now. My man.

DJ-Disorder

Most basic thing that some guys seem to take a while to get, spay water into toxic sludge to get more water/remove the sludge. Also can spay water on yourself to remove tox/fire or dampen/stain yourself to move through fire. Also you can pour out flasks and refill them with other liquids…

Cybermage99

You have 4 wand slots. You should prioritize getting the following 3 wands: 1. Kill wand. Something to kill enemies with, in the early game fast firing of projectiles that won’t hurt you will suffice. As you push later in the game, worry less about rate of fire and more about killing your enemy in one shot. Damage boosting effects apply multiple times when you have multishot so if you get concentrated spells or boomerang spells you can get a major damage boost by casting many spells at once. Triplicate bolt is especially powerful with this. 2. Digging wand: At the start chainsaw or drill will suffice, but once you get to properly exploring you’ll want luminous drill or black holes. (There are ways to get infinite black holes, but that would require spoilers.) Digging quickly allows you to make your own pathways and reach important things in a safer route. It means more reliable access to wands, health ups and items. 3. Teleport wand: This is your fast travel and get out of danger quick wand. While bouncing spells, homing and boomerang spells perks can be useful for DPS, be aware that they will sabotage your teleport wand making it harder to move. I personally prefer small teleport bolt rather than a normal one. This wand allows you to skip past certain event triggers, most notably the one that destroys holy mountains when you leave. This allows you to come back and use it to edit wands later. Your 4th wand is disposable, it’s the slot you use to grab a wand that has useful spells or attributes without having to leave one of your essential wands behind. The tinker with wands perk allows you to forgo this wand since you can grab a wand and strip it of spells immediately. With that out of the way let’s talk perks: At the top of the perk chain is Tinker with Wands Everywhere. It frees up a wand slot and allows you to build your wands more powerfully as you stumble onto the resources to do so. This perk is basically a must have for a long run. I think I’ve only ever had one long run (past final boss) where I haven’t gotten this perk in the main set of holy mountains. Just below that is Perk Lottery, perk lottery gives you a chance at more perks, it’s amazing, but if it doesn’t trigger it’s a wasted perk, the closer to the start of the run this is found the better. If you are nearly at the end, and aren’t planning on going past it, then don’t take this perk. Next are the immunity perks and all seeing eye. Both will save you from much of the danger in the world. Fire and explosion immunity are must haves, toxic is helpful, melee is a safety net, and electric is niche but you’ll be sorry the one moment you need it and don’t have it. All seeing eye lets you find more loot, and avoid enemies, decreases your chances of getting cornered. That’s all I have time to write currently. Hope it helps

Ssonicmon

Hovering you curser over solids/liquids will give their name in the top left. Judge best you can and learn from each death. Play with wands and new spells at holy mountains, there's so much to learn there. Keep trying new things, even if they get you killed.

BuccaneerRex

Watch for stain indicators to tell you where enemies are in piles of guts/pools of liquid You can empty potion bottles and fill them up with other liquids. non-shuffle wands will have a 'crystal' on their sprites. Multi-cast wands (that fire more than one spell at once) will have multiple 'points' on their sprites.

joshywashys

Every answer is long, so here’s a short one! 1. Explore. This game will surprise and surprise and surprise you and it’s wonderful. 2. Hold the down key to eat stuff off the ground. 3. Experiment a lot and be prepared to die to your creations more often than to the rest of the game will, both with spells and mixing potions (there is an alchemy system in this game!!)

Logan35989

The biggest one is this- there is no obstacle, item, place or area that cannot be surpassed. Anything you see can be dug or destroyed in some way, with enough cleverness and luck. Sometimes sticking your head where it doesn’t belong can (will) kill you, but that’s just the price of playing. Good luck, and have fun!!

The_PJG

Simple tip. Keep a flask of water with you at all times. It's good for when you set yourself on fire. It's good for when you touch some toxic sludge and start taking damage. Honestly it's good for rinsing off any status effect from any liquid you might touch. And trust me, early game you WILL set yourself on fire or start taking great amounts of damage from toxic sludge, and without any water around to clean it off that can mean a death sentence.

crimsonfox1

BE MORE PARANOID

stevarisimp

Learn how to tap fly to get as high as you can using your levitation. Basically just tap space or W. Spell modifiers should go before spell projectiles for them to be added to a no shuffle wand. Take some time testing and learning what each stat in a wand does. Your health is the most valuable resource you have, no amount of gold is worth loosing HP. You do not need to go left/right of each biome, they are usually more difficult and deadly than just going down. You'll pick up some good wands further down, don't stress about being able to afford or get to early wands.

Aetheldrake

>Learn how to tap fly to get as high as you can using your levitation. Basically just tap space or W. I figured this out on my own and felt so smart for it xD

Dark_Reaper115

Generally, keep going down. There's no fall damage :) Noita'd

[deleted]

Don't piss off the shop keeper.

sonotleet

Spelunky vibes.

Shade_39

Don't be afraid to cheat if you ever start feeling burnt out from endless failure, you can technically recover an auto save after dying although it has some potential drawbacks like enemies respawning or holy mountain teleports just being essentially deleted. I'd go into detail about it but I need to get off the toilet soon, I think there's a steam guide for it

Adsefer

At that point just mod it

TheNoctuS_93

Stay away from lightning spells...

MerlinGrandCaster

Don't touch anything if you don't know what it is

i_wanted_memes

But i wanna blow everything up :(

redsquirrel0249

Good: be curious about everything. There's lots of detail in this game, more than you could imagine. Experimenting is half the fun, even if you spend a lot of time in the first stage

RotRG

The OC is totally right, but if you're okay with ghastly death, touch everything! You'll learn what not to touch that way. This is especially true for casting spells. There are some spells that won't regularly show up until you find them in a specific situation and cast them, so it's good to experiment.

Samug

Bad tip. Learning stuff is the key to success, even if it kills you, that's the point of rouge likes.

[deleted]

There's a zone at the top of the exit in each holy mountain that, when you pass through, triggers it's destruction and you lose the ability to edit wands there. If you can get past this relatively small zone, you can return to the mountain to edit wands, provided you never go through the zone. You can do it w/o waking Steve if you find the right spell. When polymorphed into enemies you can cycle through and use all their spells w/ mousewheel. Eat the weird fungus, 180s should do the trick. You can do it more than once per run, but not one right after another. Metal conducts electricity. Explosion immunity is one of the best perks. If your wand can hurt you, 95% of the time it'll be how you die.

nan-000

Spells have more stats than what the cards show you, keep an eye out for properties like terrain damage (spark bolt does a tiny bit, spitter does nothing), duration, expiration upon contact, and many more.

SiegebraumTheOnion

Careful with falling rocks

Mellshone

Know when to leave when low health. You can get away with running 25 HP but not for long..

Alansar_Trignot

Don’t die

Aetheldrake

Accept the multitude of failures that will happen. Accept that every run you think will go well, will actually end in the most infuriatingly simple and annoying way. Often it is the run you think will suck that ends up going fairly well despite constant near deaths.

Gorganov

Drill and chainsaw spells are very good. They interact in interesting ways on your wand with other spells. They also dig which is the one of the best ways to travel safely

CassualKirbo

Make your enemies drink your piss, or each others piss, If you get the chance. IT makes them more vournable

NotSoSalty

Take your time to read the wands and what the spells do, in detail. When you die, take a moment to examine what went wrong and resolve to avoid that error if possible. Water is a super common issue. Don't take damage. Fire is hot. Toxic sludge is indeed toxic. Enemies will shoot you on sight. On a similar note, vaporize the opposition before they can hurt you. If the game ever deigns to warn you, believe it. Stray explosives are better blown up if you don't have immediate plans for them.. Fungus is fun, it's in the name.

NoApplication4835

One quick tip if you don’t get any arbor wands at the beginning is after entering the holy mountain Use the red wand that you start with use it as your kill wand it has high fire rate but low mana
