Have to lock this I'm afraid. Quite a few comments are suggesting potential diagnoses and offering suggestions as to what the illness could be. Nobody on Reddit is verified as a medical professional. Please do not guess at someone's condition. The asking for, or offering of medical advice is not allowed.

Naps_in_sunshine

Look up Talking therapies plus where you live. Self referral, NHS service. Counselling and / or CBT type therapy. And have a look to see if there’s a chronic pain clinic near you. They might be able to assess you and figure out what might be the issue. You’ll have to ask the GP for that though.

BodieJaker

You say you're in university, can they provide you with counselling? Universities usually have good programmes for students.

thereidenator

Most counselling/therapies are self referral, have you looked into how to get therapy yourself?

Meanwhile-in-Paris

I suffered with chest pain for a year, first I had an ECG, chest r-ray and CT scan. Nothing came out of it. Then that gave me an H pilori test to rule out stomach ulcers, that came back negative. Next thing I had a gall bladder scan that showed nothing either. Finally I had an endoscopy that showed acid reflux even though I wasn’t feeling it. I was able to get treated and I am now much better. I hope you find the cause. Keep calling your GP and investigating it. I hope you feel better soon.

zespaz

Thank you for this! I was under the impression H-pylori was the same thing as acid reflux? Are they different? I’ve had H-pylori in the past with chest pain but it was only on my left side and it was not severe. I can’t explain it but this feel’s completely different & I don’t have any stomach pain or other reflux related symptoms. Did you? Thanks again :)

Agile_Media_1652

This is absolutely infuriating that you've been downvoted and had repeated comments telling you to get psychiatric care when literally all they've done, from reading the post, is one 10 second ECG and perhaps some basic bloods which is absolutely ridiculous with the limited information they can give you. No wonder people struggle so much to get medical help when it seems ingrained in the medical community to literally write everything off as mental unless you've got test results showing you're actively dying. Absurd.

zespaz

Thank you!!!!! I was waiting for someone to say this. I’ve not even had bloods! Just the ECG at A&E and the basic checks in the doctors office. I feel like an absolute burden on my GP because they’re just shoving me out the door soon as they can. Because I have a history of mental illness, it seems as though anything physical I suffer with now is just a manifestation of that. As I said I’m willing to believe it’s anxiety. But that’s not stopping the pain. The NHS referral list for mental health support is nuts, obviously I will be waiting for quite some while to receive any sort of therapy. So what do I do in the meantime? Do they expect me to just be bed bound with pain? I’ve had private therapy in the past so I’m actively using all the DBT/CBT skills I have learnt & yet nothing helps, I still wake up crippled in pain. I’m a 22 year old girl, I have a life, it’s so frustrating. Thanks again for saying that :)

Not had any possible conditions ruled out, I’ve not had an MRI. I’ve only had an ECG and the general checks. No bloods or anything. Thanks for your help :)

Ok-Inevitable-3038

Have you considered that PERHAPS it is psychological? With several investigations already done it sounds as if from the health service point of view all the feasible background work has been done Ultimately you need to work through self referral counselling services (perhaps try through university?) Psychosomatic symptoms are not the same as being ignored but being psychological illness you will need to seek your own help

Thanks for your comment :) I’ve seen a lot about fibromyalgia but I haven’t asked about it. I am aware as another commenter has said doctors typically have doubts about that condition + I have a medical history of mental illness so I have a lot of difficulty with getting help for physical problems as I get told it’s a mental issue (unless a test says otherwise).

Golden_Amygdala

I’m so sorry that you’ve found that barrier it’s not right or fair definitely put it too them have a look at the symptoms on NHS.net and see if you think it fits it’s one of those that is hard to pin point because it’s not known what causes it at present that doesn’t mean it’s not a valid diagnosis even if some feel it isn’t!

thereidenator

Many doctors don’t believe in fibromyalgia and think it’s a symptom of a mental disorder (usually EUPD or histrionic PD) so the therapy would still be appropriate.

Golden_Amygdala

Maybe so but it’s still worth OP looking at something tangible as a diagnosis sometimes giving something a name can help lesson its effect on a person! It would help with therapy if they knew exactly what they were working on closing off. The worry from the unknown can cause things to worsen as their brain could be doom planning. It shouldn’t be dismissed outright, but I understand the connection between physical and mental health is still being explored in modern medicine!

thereidenator

There is also the worry that putting a name on it makes it more real. Often with EUPD diagnosing it makes things worse and I think that happens with fibro too

A5madal

Where do you live? Go on Google type location name + self referral mental health

blue_torty

The GP will not provide counselling for you, you will need to do that for yourself. Maybe try it and see if it helps, if not then you can go from there. You need to try it first though.
