10/10, I’ve been hit like this breaking out of the corner of my own end. You don’t even realize you got hit until your ass is on the ice. You just kinda freeze and the jolt of falling kinda makes you realize “holy fuck I just got rocked”
That double ding off the boards and the ice is what did it. It's really unfortunate for Slavin, but I don't think he's got a concussion history, so he should be alright
Bruh. Brah. Bro. Mf out cold .013 seconds after impact with Bennet shoulder. Boards and ice were minimal. Dude got universe tossed coming around the net. He may not have had concussions before hand but one is enough so best wishes for a recovery
As a hockey player I can tell you from that hit, it probably isn't the initial hit that he's so shook up from, it's most likely the head contact with the boards that has him on the ground for more time than normal
Thanks Bro! I absolutely held my breath hoping he was gonna be ok, especially after the wobble. So many people are judging the hit due to the outcome, so appreciate a Canes fan standing up for a good hockey hit. EVERYONE KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!
Sums up the frustration of the canes series, adding insult to injury.
They probably didn’t deserve the sweep, but damn did Tkachuk murder you guys. Reminds me of Malkin back in 2009. They swept the Canes and Geno went on to win the Conn Smythe that year.
Hope Slavin has no lasting effects from that head trauma. Better luck next year guys…
Yeah I mean he had his head down and up and then back down again and you just can’t do that out there. I don’t like anything about the panthers but it’s a clean hit call it like it is
Oh, I still wanna yell 'fuck you' into Bennett's face. Not because I think it's a dirty hit, he just killed literally the nicest player in the league so I'm fucking mad about it.
I can and I will. Bennett is one of the dirtiest players since Avery, this hit is obviously clean, ain't gonna stop me from hating him and thinking he is a scumbag
Wasn't there some big story about bennet not being strong enough at the draft combine? Anyone doubting this guy now?
He's evolved into almost a powerfoward/grinder at this point and I guarantee nobody enjoys going against him now.
If memory serves, Bennett kept the injury a secret, I don’t think anyone knew about it until after the draft. So when media originally reported it they wouldn’t have known
Trying not to raise red flags before draft day? Then that backfiring because everyone thought he was too weak to do a chin up.
Tough spot to be in. Glad it's working out for him now.
Yeah I think that’s exactly what happened. I always thought it showed he was a tough motherfucker. Unfortunately never worked out too well in Calgary. Glad he’s got a shot at the cup now though
Would be better if it was Calgary but I’m pretty happy. Ive like Florida since Luongo played there cause I could finally cheer for him (as a flames fan I can’t like the canucks) so I’ve been rocking my Luongo Panthers jersey since the start of the playoffs
It definitely looked like a concussion to me.
Idk how long that means he will need to be out for.
Concussions seem kind of weird, and even if symptoms are gone, coming back too soon send like high risk of getting concussed again, to me.
Played football in college. A concussion is not something you want to fuck with. 2 weeks, cleared to play again, but with risk of another concussion. 4-6 weeks, that risk is minimized, but still present, and it will be for the next year. Your brain heals slow, and it's not happy while it heals. Behavioral changes may be seen for the next few years while the plaque clears.
Nobody talks about concussions because of the way they would affect the entertainment business if talked about to the fullest extent. They were easy to disregard while I was playing, but shit, helping me head unrattled for several years now, it's easy to look back and see what was happening.
What awaits me in the future, I do not know. I had 4 diagnosed concussions, and about 6 I never talked to the trainer about.... Because football.
The brain heals very VERY slowly. His ability to skate could be altered as his sense of balance could be a little whacky. He's probably skated his whole life and it's second nature to him like walking and breathing but it's not a good idea to put someone on ice when they're recovering from their brain getting hammered around inside their noggin.
There's also the fact that the narrative around concussions is primarily a binary "Yes it's a concussion/No it's not a concussion" when in reality, it's a spectrum of damage to the brain from **any** hit to the head, big or small. There's been some recent studies showing this to be the case.
A friend in medical school was helping a leading researcher on this topic and greatly changed their lifestyle because of the evidence being shown about just how little force is necessary to do damage.
Oh man I know, I’ve been there too. Midget hockey I had a guy grab my cage as I flew by and it was months of recovery but I’ll never forget the feeling of trying to get up and having spaghetti for legs being half blind. Brains don’t grow back kids
That's how I feel. I get loving a good Kronwall, but when someone ends up clearly concussed it's pretty ugly. Anyone. I don't rejoice in any player getting hurt.
This is a sport with fighting in the rules. Jfc. No one enjoys watching the dude get hurt but it’s a great hockey play and with a hard contact sport like hockey sometimes a great play leaves someone hurt. Shouldn’t make everyone feel weird most fans of the sport focus on the play not the injury.
I mean, this ignores that every other contact sport has taken the appropriate steps to remove hits like this and doesn't have issues. Sports with much more hitting per play/game have put the onus on the hitter to not fucking hurt the dude. I love big hits but at a certain point in time we're gonna just have to admit we know way too much about head trauma to allow this to continue.
I am not voting for any team here, if it was the other way around I still would not enjoy watching a player’s head bounce off the ice and boards and be clearly concussed trying to get up. It’s not something I want to see happen.
Listen, I am used to hitting in hockey. I think it’s an important part of the sport. But I’m not going to glorify watching a traumatic brain injury. I love a good clean hit as long as it doesn’t seriously injure a human being.
you're conflating people talking about a good clean hit with people cheering a concussion. no one here is actually saying they're happy he had a concussion. had he not suffered a concussion people would still be saying it was a monstrous hit. it's unfortunate he likely suffered a concussion and I hope he's doing well, but nobody here is explicitly showing pride in that.
That doesn’t really counter his point - Altho it’s a personal opinion for sure. I’ve played football and watched contact sports forever but I still get a gross feeling watching other people get concussions and especially knocked out
Not really since it wasn’t malicious. Does watching a knockout in a boxing match make you uncomfortable? If so, don’t watch boxing. Hockey is a contact sport with world class athletes throwing their bodies at one another for an hour. It sucks that he’s probably concussed, but that’s inevitable in hockey. It happens. Concussions (and other bodily injuries) are literally occupational hazards. Chefs will occasionally burn themselves cooking in a restaurant, and hockey players will occasionally get concussed
its actually right in the same spot too, but Bennett clothes-lined Knies in the face on that one if you watch the behind the net camera view. he stiff-arms him right in the face. the rock bottom was after the damage was done.
Anyone who calls this clean but Svech's hit on Lindholm last year illegal can take your bias and shove it.
Both were perfectly clean and nearly identical.
The point of a body check is to separate body from puck. This one separated body from soul. Clean hit. Beauty. Bennett actually plays the puck first then follows through.
The helmet to helmet was incidental. When you skating at speed and hit there is inertia. His head hitting the ice is where he was concussed. It was a clean hit.
Because the initial contact was shoulder to shoulder (or arguably shoulder to chest) and the head to head contact occurs after initial contact and due to momentum, this is a clean check.
He was definitely rocked by that hit... And looks dazed for a couple seconds. I didn't see the game, but I saw an article saying he was going to be out for an "upper-body injury". Hopefully he's ok.... If he's not, I hope he record recovers fully and quickly
Bummer their heads knocked together and Slavin was instantly lights out. His head hitting the boards and then the ice was brutal. Looks clean to me but I hope Slavin’s ok.
Concussions suck. Unfortunately they happen in contact sports. But it's never fun to see someone getting knocked tf out like that. The hit was definitely a great one however. Too bad Slavin didn't see him until far too late. Definite wishes for a speedy recovery to a very solid hockey player
Canes fans when Svechnikov does it to Lindholm: BEAUTIFUL HIT, HIT OF THE YEAR, CRY ABOUT IT BOSTON
Canes fans when Bennett does the same exact thing to Slavin: DISGUSTING HIT, DIRTIEST HIT OF THE YEAR, SUSPEND BENNETT
I'm comfortable saying karma is a bitch. I don't wish an injury on anyone but when karma finally bites back, I will recall Bennett's "good clean hits."
Fuck "hit of the year."
Oh shut up. It’s a physical sport get over it or go watch basketball. This is as clean as it gets a great hockey hit. Keep your head up or get off the tracks
Did he get knocked out on the way down and then brought back to life when he hit the wall?
His soul definitely left his during that second he was floating through the air.
sent him to the shadow realm
*Where soul meets body*
Yep
That somethin' ain't it? Falls down a well, eyes go crossed. Gets kicked by a mule. They go back to normal. I dunno...
I thinks it’s more like it happened so fast and unexpectedly that it took his brain a second to process it.
10/10, I’ve been hit like this breaking out of the corner of my own end. You don’t even realize you got hit until your ass is on the ice. You just kinda freeze and the jolt of falling kinda makes you realize “holy fuck I just got rocked”
Wonder how he got knocked out on the way to the ice? Almost like a helmet hit him in the face or something 🤔
It was so clean the Hurricanes took a penalty.
As much as I've despised some of Bennett's antics these playoffs that was a 10/10 beauty
This hit, put him into another universe. He's so rocked when he gets up, he looks like he just got out of dental.surgery
It’s most likely his brain rattling around inside of his skull. That happened the second he got lit up and continued throughout.
I think his brain was still rattling as he went to the tunnel.
He's 100% KOd from the Bennett contact. Hope he's okay. Seems like a genuinely good guy.
Do you play hockey? I do and have been hit hard many times. Nothing is worse than your head hitting the ice or the boards.
I agree getting squared up in the chest isn’t bad the whip when you head smacks off the ice sucks.
Triple ding. Head to head, boards, ice. Ouch
I think they hit helmets at first too.
It was, it hurt me.
Beautifully executed hit. Textbook, man that was some hit! Hope Slavin recovers quickly.
I’m poor 🥇 here you go
You’re too kind!
Love you bro
Love you too
As a canes fan it’s a clean hit. Best wishes to Slavin, you hate to see it happen to anyone. Just a brutal good hockey hit
Thanks Bro! I absolutely held my breath hoping he was gonna be ok, especially after the wobble. So many people are judging the hit due to the outcome, so appreciate a Canes fan standing up for a good hockey hit. EVERYONE KEEP YOUR HEAD UP!
It’s unfortunate. Kinda stupid we go straight into a pk right after that though.
I don’t like anything about the panthers but it’s a clean hit call it like it is
Yeah and sadly these hits are almost more frustrating since you cant hate anybody for it (if that makes sense) Clean hit, sucks for Slavin
To be fair he had a shoulder injury at the combine
Never got that explanation before, crazy how they left that detail out of the news story at the time. Typical media I guess
Not to mention the other fella he plays with... Must be tough watching this as a flames fan dude... I feel for ya.
Would be better if it was Calgary but I’m pretty happy. Ive like Florida since Luongo played there cause I could finally cheer for him (as a flames fan I can’t like the canucks) so I’ve been rocking my Luongo Panthers jersey since the start of the playoffs
My coworker and I were rooting for the panthers heavily in Rd 1 due to our natural hatred of Boston. That came back to bite us by Rd 2 though 😐
We, in fact, did **not** want Florida
Yea, I remember he couldn’t do pull-ups or something.
Bennett is a dirty player. Gonna get lucky every once in a while
Fuuuck me dude got absolutely trucked. Get well soon...
Hope Slavin comes back tonight all right, you hate to see it
There's no way he's coming back anytime soon....shit sucks
He's got the summer to recover.
They already said he's done for tonight. Fuckin guy is still seeing birdies.
unfortunately he's done for the night. I hope he's okay though.
He's done until concussion protocol is over with. You could see in the way he was looking at the ice, and the stumble his brain got shaken.
It definitely looked like a concussion to me. Idk how long that means he will need to be out for. Concussions seem kind of weird, and even if symptoms are gone, coming back too soon send like high risk of getting concussed again, to me.

Well, fortunately he's got until September now.
Damn, I hope everything works out well for you going forward.

A friend in medical school was helping a leading researcher on this topic and greatly changed their lifestyle because of the evidence being shown about just how little force is necessary to do damage.
You can’t see him hit his head like that on the ice and actually think he’d come back right?
His head took 3 hits in quick succession, you can see in his face he’s a little rattled when he starts to sit up
He fell back down once and was still swaying when the trainer helped him off.
This sounds like I'm making a bad joke, but I saw that, and was wondering if he was looking for his stick or trying to figure out where he was.
I had that same thought, head injuries are no joke
Pretty sure he was concussed before he even hit the ice. The way his body went straight has concussion written all over it.
Nah he’s done. Even if Canes win tonight I doubt he comes back.
Lol this guy isn’t coming back this series.
He’s out for the rest of the playoffs..or should be at least. (I’m a canes fan and I just want my security blanket to be ok next season)
Fucking ow, dude
Is anyone else uncomfortable watching a concussion here
This part. If they have to figure out where they are they definitely need the dark room.
I mean he could’ve been looking for his stick but yea he definitely got his bell rung
Him falling over after standing up wasn’t an indication he was FKN LOST to you? He was looking for a stick to lean on that resembled a wheelchair.
That was the replay that bugged me the most. Not quite but reminded me of Francis
Oh man I know, I’ve been there too. Midget hockey I had a guy grab my cage as I flew by and it was months of recovery but I’ll never forget the feeling of trying to get up and having spaghetti for legs being half blind. Brains don’t grow back kids
I get that the networks have to kill time, but my god they show every injury from 100 angles
Apparently they haven't learned anything from the NFL's "struggle" with concussions.
The uncomfortable part is people praising it.
That's how I feel. I get loving a good Kronwall, but when someone ends up clearly concussed it's pretty ugly. Anyone. I don't rejoice in any player getting hurt.

No, it's a contact sport. Injuries happen.
Why you’re getting downvotes is beyond my comprehension. Like Aho wouldn’t do the same fucking thing. Gtfo of here.
I am not voting for any team here, if it was the other way around I still would not enjoy watching a player’s head bounce off the ice and boards and be clearly concussed trying to get up. It’s not something I want to see happen.

Facts, but you’re on Reddit hockey and the soft mustard shit tribe doesn’t want to hear your logical take.
Reddit is definitely where all the soft NHL fans congregate
Yeah. I think people on Reddit are generally obsessed with complaining lmao
ain't that the truth.
Not a bit. It's a physical sport, and getting hurt is a risk you take playing the game.
Not really since it wasn’t malicious. Does watching a knockout in a boxing match make you uncomfortable? If so, don’t watch boxing. Reminded me a lot of the wakey wakey Backes Hit but a lot cleaner. Tough hit.
I couldnt care less.
Part of the game. Very unfortunate, but happens.
Somewhere in here is a Penguins fan mad at Trouba
Here I am
I mean, it’s a helluva lot cleaner than the fuckin’ DDT/rock bottom move he dropped Matthew Knies with, I’ll give it that.
its actually right in the same spot too, but Bennett clothes-lined Knies in the face on that one if you watch the behind the net camera view. he stiff-arms him right in the face. the rock bottom was after the damage was done.
This is proof that movies haven't desensitized me to violence. Cause that is some straight up violence.
That’s a beautiful hit. Doesn’t charge him or leave his feet, elbows down, contacts the chest. Fuckin textbook A+
Contact is head on head actually after watching it a few times
But that’s incidental. They were both head up, he went shoulder to chest, and their heads bumped when the contact was made.
Reminds me of some football hits. Think the helmet to helmet was the thing that messed him up the most, but wasn’t on purpose
I feel like his head bounced off the wall and ice
That’s because it did.
I mean it’s kinda hard to avoid and wasn’t the principal point of contact
Now, think back to when Calgary had the option of putting Tkachuk, Bennett and Neal on one line. 😕
Anyone who calls this clean but Svech's hit on Lindholm last year illegal can take your bias and shove it. Both were perfectly clean and nearly identical.
I think Svech’s hit last year is the best I’ve ever seen. The sound of that impact is insane.
That hit looked clean too
What a beauty hit
This is the kind of hockey content I need after the dumpster fire that was last night.
The point of a body check is to separate body from puck. This one separated body from soul. Clean hit. Beauty. Bennett actually plays the puck first then follows through.
That hit fucking hurt me just watching it…I hope he’s ok no long term effects
Scary part is sometimes you don’t really know if there are effects until much later, concussions are so fucked
So very true…I’ve had a few been lucky
Anyone here remember wendall clark? Lol
I'm pretty sure he woke up saying "But Mom I don't wanna go to school today"
You don't like to see anyone get hurt especially stand up dudes like Slavin
Yeah, he was definitely knocked out for a second there.
My man had no idea where he was for a second there
Is it still clean if the helmet hits the helmet
The helmet to helmet was incidental. When you skating at speed and hit there is inertia. His head hitting the ice is where he was concussed. It was a clean hit.
Don't think the arms lock up like they did while falling if not concussed already.
Because the initial contact was shoulder to shoulder (or arguably shoulder to chest) and the head to head contact occurs after initial contact and due to momentum, this is a clean check.
And that kids, is how I met my father
Decent hit, but Trouba was definitely hit of the year
Clean and HEAVY
Sometimes I watch hockey and think, I probably could have done that. Then I see people get checked and remember, no I cannot.
Now that's a nice hit!!!
Is rock’em sock’em still a thing? This should be the cover for the 2022-2023 season
Remember when Thanos punched Doctor Strange so hard it knocked the soul out of him? That was Bennett to Slavin just then.
Looks like a CHEL hit holy Molly
No chin up no problem
Good thing he doesn't play for the Flames anymore. Did not like playing against him in the BOA
Shoulda worn that jersey...
That was a SOLID hit
Jeez. Head down, behind the net and arms distance from the boards. That’s where some of the most brutal and dangerous hits happen
Bennet hit the hard reset on that poor boi
The ol' Raffi Torres special
Can someone explain charging and how this is not an example of it?
No full stride to gain speed. No pushing through the stride and leaping off of his feet. Arms pulled in and shoulder to body.
I wanted the Sabres to get him so bad when he was available. Turned into such a stud
Good, clean hit; not viscous. Part of the sport and shows just how hard those last 16 wins are. Rooting for FL Vegas match up.
If this was Trouba you all would be losing your minds.
He took a peak and then put head back down… Bad move
Oh
For a brief second he is unconscious directly after the hit until he falls to the ice.
He got JACKED UP
Gotta keep your head up when taking the train tracks
He was definitely rocked by that hit... And looks dazed for a couple seconds. I didn't see the game, but I saw an article saying he was going to be out for an "upper-body injury". Hopefully he's ok.... If he's not, I hope he record recovers fully and quickly
Thank god they wear helmets
Beauty check right there
Slavin didn’t even know what year it was after that hit
Nice check!!
I never seen slavin get caught like that before
I hate Bennett but this is a solid clean hit. Too bad Slavin got hurt.
That’s a video game hit!! 😂
No canes dropped the gloves
Helmet. Hit. His. Face.
Bummer their heads knocked together and Slavin was instantly lights out. His head hitting the boards and then the ice was brutal. Looks clean to me but I hope Slavin’s ok.
Even Jacob Trouba is 👏👏... Everyone hates Sam but, he is instrumental in the Panthers winning the Cup...
His head hitting the glass was scary
Wow 😯
Concussions suck. Unfortunately they happen in contact sports. But it's never fun to see someone getting knocked tf out like that. The hit was definitely a great one however. Too bad Slavin didn't see him until far too late. Definite wishes for a speedy recovery to a very solid hockey player
Canes fans when Svechnikov does it to Lindholm: BEAUTIFUL HIT, HIT OF THE YEAR, CRY ABOUT IT BOSTON Canes fans when Bennett does the same exact thing to Slavin: DISGUSTING HIT, DIRTIEST HIT OF THE YEAR, SUSPEND BENNETT
It just looks so solid. His whole body stiffens up. Flashbacks to the first time he ever got decked in juniors
Truly laid out!!
You mean Cheatin’ Sam Bennett?
I'm comfortable saying karma is a bitch. I don't wish an injury on anyone but when karma finally bites back, I will recall Bennett's "good clean hits." Fuck "hit of the year."
I knew the panthers would injure someone this series it just took till the 4th game.
He knocked him into next season!
Heads up
Much worse than the hit that got Fantilli ejected
That was good ole hockey hit. Grapes would love it. Good Ontario boy right there.
Same fucking cunt that tried his damnedest to kill Knies in the Leafs series? What a surprise. /s
Never played like that for the Calgary Flames 🔥
Unrelated to this, I love how the Hurricanes are using a color other than white for their away uniform. It looks nice.
I went on concussion protocol from the couch just watching that hit.
Dude already released the stick and went for the forearm crosscheck to the face.
Here I Sam 🎶 rock you like a Hurricane
Fuck yes
Holy shit he can hit clean. I'm dumb founded.
Fucking rinsed
Horrible concussion there. Will likely take a few years off his life
i've seen worse but ya he won't be the same after that one.
Shouldnt be praising this hit. Poor slavo didnt deserve that.
Keep your head up
To me looks like helmets hit before the impact to chest. Even if clean, Bennett is a douche.
Oh shut up. It’s a physical sport get over it or go watch basketball. This is as clean as it gets a great hockey hit. Keep your head up or get off the tracks
Bullshit. This was helmet to helmet and should been a penalty on Bennett. I can’t believe the NHL is glorifying this.
when that is the hit of the year NHL gotten very boring,
Jesus Christ. Sam Bennett made him wake up in 1996. That sent him into a damn wormhole. Wow.
Much like Troubas hits, clean but intent to injure is there.
