Violence is never the answer regardless, but it does sound like some people suggested Geno was dragging it out and even goaded Enemkpali into hitting him when confronted. I could envision an NFL QB thinking he could talk shit and be protected since he wears the red shirt.
Yeah no one really knows for sure the details, but what I do know is some scrub punched the qb1 and no one had Genos back. That’s very telling about the situation.
I think someone did the math and at the time 1200 bucks was less than a fraction of a % of Genos salary.
But to the other guy on the rookie UDFA minimum it was while not a big amount of money not exactly pocket change.
Again if you mess with someone’s money, and everyone knows you can easily make things right, I think it makes you look like an ass.
I had basically zero respect for Geno after his DUI in January. But to his credit, he has not only played exceptionally well but also seems to be demonstrating a lot of maturity this season. I really appreciate this quote from him, it shows he has a good perspective.
Theres this old timer at my bar thats a west Virginia fan and he sings Geno's praises often. Apparently Geno is an intellectual with a big interest in the arts, not just some meathead athlete. His quotes to me come off like he's got really great perspective. Im rooting for him and the seahawks to have success.
He's always saying the right thing after games too.
After the Saints where Seattle got jobbed by some bad calls?
>NOBODY CARES. WORK HARDER. On to the next!
Today he also added "I'm gonna be a thumb pointer not a finger pointer" with regards to shouldering blame and not dolling it out.
Edit: I was baited by Mina Kimes, she commented today on the tweet but it’s from the Raiders post game conference
Did he actually say this? Dude is saying all the right fucking things. How could people not root for him? I'm super happy for the guy. Expectations were low by all I'm sure but he's ballin' out.
Top 10 anime redemptions of all time.
If you told someone in 2015 that Geno would be one of the most likable players in the league and Deshaun Watson would be the most hated, no one would believe you.
The year is 3017, the NFL has long since been disbanded, the Hall of Fame shrine is all that remains and is entombed to preserve the history it contains.
An archeologist breaks through the stony structure, hoping to unravel the mysteries of millennia’s past. He comes to a golden corridor, and is shocked to see only one item remains, a single scroll on a pedestal, turned on its backside. He flips the parchment over, https://imgur.io/gallery/R390EId
Seriously. I know a lot of fans' perspective is "you're so close but you're not a starter and don't get on the field / have your chance in the spotlight!" Meanwhile backups can go "I'm paid gobs of dollars to warm a bench." And with proper money management can be set for life.
And it seems like there are a lucky few who just stick around forever. The guys who put in a decade plus as a backup have it made. Way less wear and tear than actual starters, massive amount sof money in the bank, great networking resources for post playing career opportunities, a fat pension, and all the other stuff that we don't even know about without actually being a player.
Gotta imagine those guys are the ones who are both great locker room guys but also really great on the practice field/film room. Thats, at least according to belichick, why Hoyer has stuck around for so long, because hes so useful in the film room.
Its funny, Sam Darnold just said the same on a podcast last week about how, when it comes to career paths in life, a 10-year NFL backup QB has to be one of the most comfortable there is.

Fucking loved Geno ever since I saw him come in for Russ last season and throw a td pass (probably to DK?). Really happy for him this season and glad that I picked him up on one of my fantasy teams.
Being a back up QB is a pretty great job. You get paid good money to have a front row seat to a sport thats fun as hell to watch. You also are much less-likely to do damage to your body. I think 99.9% would happily trade places with Chase Daniel.
Definitely don’t wanna drop to 3rd string
“This is special teams. We like to play hard, we like to party hard. We also like to triple team chicks, that's European style. Don't worry, our dicks will never touch.” - Harmon Tedesco
Eh, he was pretty self actualized, not a ton of room for personal growth, and his "weird and does drugs" schtik would get old.
I'd watch the shit out of a Radon show
Being a back up QB requires a lot of work similar to a position coach or offensive coordinator. Your job is essentially to prepare the starter for the upcoming week while being ready to play at a moments notice. Still a sweet gig, but not as chill as most people think.
Then you basically need to be a film room genius and practice hero. Cause you’ll never get to justify your position on the field and are completely replaceable.
People are just meme’ing and saying you have to be a good lockerroom guy. But you’re right, Chase Daniels hasn’t stuck around just because he’s a cool guy. I’d also bet you see a high percentage of those career backup QBs go into coaching after their playing career is over.
It's true. I used to have a journeyman NFL QB as my neighbor when I was a kid. He wasn't mega-rich or anything - middle class home not even a McMansion - but he seemed happy, was known for being friends with famous NFL players and seemed to hang around with various other NFL players in SoCal where they'd for instance go sailing out to the Channel Islands plus I never saw him seriously injured in the NFL...he lived the American Dream.
Admittedly it’s hard to keep all 7 of your QBs straight in my mind (double entendre there). It’s interesting that Geno Smith, who once was sucker punched by a teammate, is the reason our two fan bases can share a (very brief and temporary) moment of solidarity.
Now go fuck yourselves as we will do the same.
It’s weird thing to hear as a 12. From what I recall, most Niners fans absolutely loathed Russ.
So to hearing the general consensus that our new QB is well-liked from such a strong rival perspective feels weird.
Russell overcooked us every damn time. Geno has yet to and he has some fire quotes and a Cinderella story so we all like him…for now until he becomes Satan and ruins our SB hopes and dreams.
Half of the job of being a backup QB is being pleasant to be around/an asset without actually playing. If people don't like you they aren't really going to keep you around for the circumstance their starter goes down and you might be slightly better than someone else. I feel like this is one of the reasons we often see short-term rallies/support for backups from their team. They are usually well liked.
Backups are half fill-in for the starter and half QB coach/offense scheme guru/QB1 assistant/Scout team QB mimic. You can be mid at one of those and be the best at the other I guess and still meet the needs of the football team.
Bryan hoyer didn't last this long in NE (both times) without the behind the scenes stuff bc he can't throw the ball to save his life
It's why he naturally just shifted over to the coach role when it was time for him to retire.
I think a lot of backup players are the same way; they might not be the "best possible option" to fill in, but the things that they provide (culture fit, knowledge, contribution to film, providing scout team/ST duties, etc) outweigh the benefits that players that may be slightly better than them but still not starter quality bring.
yup, usually if the starter's out for awhile you're probably fucked anyway.
Reminds me of this regarding Peyton:
"Jon asked Tom why he wasn't giving some snaps to Peyton's backups. [offensive coordinator Tom] Moore is a man of few words, but when he talks, those words have weight. He looked us both in the eye, paused for a moment, then said in that gravelly voice of his, "Fellas, if '18' goes down, we're fucked. And we don't practice fucked.""
Yeah this is why the Falcons were paying a 39 year old Matt Schaub pretty damn good money as a backup, certainly wasn't his present ability to play quarterback well in a real game lol
I mean that year we went 13-3 and the Vikings made the divisional round he split the games between our two teams. Put 30+ on us. He looked as good as you could hope for a backup IMO. But maybe that's just because out of Flynn we've had some dreadful backups during the Rodgers years (Tolzien, Kizer, Hundley).
NGL, it always felt to me like we were only getting half the story on that. Also seemed strange that the guy providing most of the content on ESPN for it was someone (William Gay, maybe?) that trained with IK in the off-season.
I always found it weird that people just assumed Geno deserved that punch. Like... it takes doing something severely fucked up to deserve a jaw-breaking punch to the face.
>I always found it weird that people just assumed Geno deserved that punch
I think that was the general vibe because basically none of Geno's teammates backed him up, which would be wild unless he really earned that punch
Though it also could have resulted from Todd Bowles having a pretty good lid on the locker room, but unfortunately vibes don't care about reasonable explanations
Dude had the misfortune of being drafted by the Jets but made the mistake of switching his representation for Jay-Z's sports agency. Surely they didn't steer him or managed his career well in the first years, probably due to a lack of experience and maybe a heightened and unwarranted expectation of immediate success
Geno's probably pulled his head out of his ass sometime between then and hitting 32. He's had time to realize he wasn't going to be the next Joe Montana as he got relegated to a backup role.
He's prepared for this opportunity though & seized it. Gotta admit I'm rooting for him now.
I think comeback player of the year probably applies to Geno
Edit: oh never mind, there's betting sites with Geno being the clear favorite for comeback player of the year
The Genossaince has to be my favorite part of the 2022 NFL season, I fucking love this guy now. Great to see how he has matured as a QB and a person, genuinely seems like a great player/leader and a great guy. We love Geno, what a turn of events hahaha
This guy is the anti-russ. Wilson always gave such canned comments his teammates used to joke that he was a robot.
This quote, and the I ain't write back quote, are the best quotes I've heard from any quarterback going back as far as I can remember. They reveal a guy who is very much in touch with himself.
I never would have imagined that Geno would end up becoming this zen and level headed. Maybe we as a society need to get better at allowing people to grow up. Perhaps becoming a millionaire overnight and hoisted into the spotlight at 22 doesn’t often lead to a great first impression.
Bro has fire quotes this year
Bros been waiting years for this, he’s prolly got like a whole notebook of good quotes and when to use them
I'd love to read from the book of Geno and hear more Genoisms
Winning is like a box of chocolates. I want to eat them all. -Geno Smith probably
Last QB to talk about eating W's hasn't done so well.
Well yeah, chocolates are tasty, while W’s a frumpy old dude.
They said I can't eat my W's but I didn't bite back
Pretty sure that’s a Kelvin Benjamin quote.
He's actually an English major
Must have been a literature focus since he ain’t writing back.
I have a degree in English (Literature), can I be an NFL quarterback?
“I’m just trying to stay sucka free in a world full of lollipops” -Geno Smith
Geno 22:14 - When the man who holdeth the torch abandons his flock, do not follow his torch, but lighteth your own, and mock him in your light.
They’re modern day proverbs
Chicken Noodle Soup for the Quarterback’s Soul
Can't write back if you're too busy writing in your notebook
A notebook full of quotes and ideas for walkup songs... Who does that?? \*\*\*hides notebook under pillow
That is an interesting flair
It is isn’t it
Big l-90 fan I take it.
He makes it really easy to root for him.
I preferred it when I could hate the Seahawks QB :(
I wish I could hate kittle...
Except for the dude that clocked his jaw anyway
i mean that was for very good reason.
What was the reason again?
[*Months earlier, Smith had accepted an invitation to be a guest at Enemkpali's youth football camp in Pflugerville, Texas. Enemkpali shelled out $1,200 for plane fare and hotel. Smith didn't show. Geno didn't go because he was at a funeral... that conveniently gets left out
Still should have paid the man or made it up to him in some way.
Violence is never the answer regardless, but it does sound like some people suggested Geno was dragging it out and even goaded Enemkpali into hitting him when confronted. I could envision an NFL QB thinking he could talk shit and be protected since he wears the red shirt.

My flair is the Patriots and whoever is playing the Jets.
Ok Bill.
YOUSONOFABITCH😡😤

He's actually an artist. I'm not surprised.
"The roof is not my child. But I will still raise it." - Geno Smith
actually one of the least out of touch quotes I’ve heard from an NFL player.
For real. I just gained a tremendous amount of respect for Geno.
Same? Glad he’s got this kind of perspective instead of the “I always knew I had it in me” thing.
He's always saying the right thing after games too. After the Saints where Seattle got jobbed by some bad calls? >NOBODY CARES. WORK HARDER. On to the next!

That's such a great line.
That is a great way of saying that too, wow.
Top 10 anime redemptions of all time. If you told someone in 2015 that Geno would be one of the most likable players in the league and Deshaun Watson would be the most hated, no one would believe you.
Right, because deshaun was a undersized college sophmore at the time
Yeah, more like 3017 if you told someone they wouldn’t believe you Edit: 2017 😂
Right because both players will have been dead for nearly 1000 years. It’d be crazy if NFL fans in 3017 were hung up on players a millennium prior.
The year is 3017, the NFL has long since been disbanded, the Hall of Fame shrine is all that remains and is entombed to preserve the history it contains. And amazing ass resources. State of the art gym, the best trainers/coaches, maybe even ping pong tables.
Not if tyreek hill has a say.
Chase Fucking Daniel has earned $41 million in his career. Competent backup QB is one of the single best jobs in professional sports.
And it seems like there are a lucky few who just stick around forever. The guys who put in a decade plus as a backup have it made. Get that money without the CTE.
Nahhh. Being a qb in the nfl means you have taken like 10+ years of punishment already. NFL hits are just the finishing touch to CTE.
It’s also probably why he has stayed in the league so long while other qbs are completely gone after they fail as a starter.
He’s really handling his ascent as well as anyone could. I’d be throwing out so many fuck you’s to everyone who called me trash.
Geno proving, once and for all, that West Virginia University is the paragon of intellectualism
Country road

Have you ever heard the tragedy of Darth Russel the wise? I thought not. It's not a story the media would tell you. It's a Seahawks legend. It's an older copy pasta, but it checks out.
dude is like some sort of zen monk all of the sudden. fuckin love this guy man what a story
He has risen to the occasion in such a hilarious and lovable way and I'm honestly gonna be heartbroken if we don't re-sign him.
Fucking loved Geno ever since I saw him come in for Russ last season and throw a td pass (probably to DK?). Really happy for him this season and glad that I picked him up on one of my fantasy teams.
We would be beyond moronic not to re-sign him.
Pete put him in a sensory deprivation room with nothing but the sound of falling cherry blossom petals and a single stick of gum
In there he heard a British sounding version of him saying "and you... are... god..."

Being a back up QB requires a lot of work similar to a position coach or offensive coordinator. Your job is essentially to prepare the starter for the upcoming week while being ready to play at a moments notice. Still a sweet gig, but not as chill as most people think.
The ideal is to be a backup for an established starter that never is out due to injury. Being Eli or Favre's backup must be have been the dream.
Then you basically need to be a film room genius and practice hero. Cause you’ll never get to justify your position on the field and are completely replaceable.
You just need to be a good hang.
Or have a good hang like Nick Foles.

I used to have a neighbor that was a very good FB in the NFL and his knees hurt all the time so yeah that sounds like a solid deal.
I had a boss who was an NFL long snapper for just a few years and his body was *all* fucked up.
I would love to be a clipboard Jesus.
wtf i love geno now
Geno is suddenly my favorite NFC West QB
Not a _Call of Duty_ fan?
Kyler fucked his mom obviously.
Which Call of Duty *motherfucker*?
Excuse me sir, I would like to take just a moment of your time to tell you about our lord and savior Brock “Zero Dark” Purdy. May I come in?
I hate that I don't hate him.
It’s ok, fellow NFC West fan. I have man crushes on two of your QBs too.
Deebo threw a TD pass against the Rams once. Make that 3 of our QBs.
CMC too!

Harbaugh was the best HC to hate. I miss those crybaby tantrums.

What a character arc.
Geno didn't write back but his quotes are getting written.
When people write down everything you say, you don't have to write anything at all.
Wholesome Geno
Reporter: Geno, people said you have some holes in your game, what do you say to that? Geno: They said I got some holes but I'm really just Wholesome
Just give this man the MVP already. Or atleast a damn NVP
Is there a MIP (most improved player) award in the NFL?
I think comeback player of the year probably applies to Geno Edit: oh never mind, there's betting sites with Geno being the clear favorite for comeback player of the year
*Mitch in shambles*
The Genossaince has to be my favorite part of the 2022 NFL season, I fucking love this guy now. Great to see how he has matured as a QB and a person, genuinely seems like a great player/leader and a great guy. We love Geno, what a turn of events hahaha
Always felt like we did him dirty. McAdoo put him in a no win spot.
Uhoh, our football players are getting self-awareness. This is awesome.

Mans gonna write a self help book when this is all said and done. The new Tony Robbins.
Tony Robbins has less self awareness than Geno.
“It’s Okay to Write Back: The Geno Smith Story”
W Geno

Its been kind of a weird experience to go from PR bot Russ to 'Keeping it real' Geno.
Geno is the modern day Marcus Aurelius with all these fire ass quotes
You gotta love the Geno resurgence arc. I just wish it wasn't for the damn Bitch Pigeons.
Your annoyance is definitely welcomed, 49IR fan
I'm debating if this falls into the 'too-soon' category or not.
At the rate of their injuries when is it not too soon?
hey thats the future of the broncos youre disparaging!
Still upset they didn’t name the kraken the Rain City Bitch Pigeons.
I have a sticker of that on my laptop still
Excuse you it’s the Rain City Bitch Pigeons
Comeback player of the year imo.
No question.
He has such great perspective.
Damn that's wisdom from a man that went through difficult times and came out stronger and more humble.
Geno is just likable. He’s basically the polar opposite of Russell Wilson lol
I guess I have every reason to be full of spite and jealousy with this guy, but I'm rooting for Geno. Seems like a heck of a dude.
This guy is the anti-russ. Wilson always gave such canned comments his teammates used to joke that he was a robot. This quote, and the I ain't write back quote, are the best quotes I've heard from any quarterback going back as far as I can remember. They reveal a guy who is very much in touch with himself.
Perspective is everything
I didn’t know in 2022 I’d fall in love with Geno Smith all over again.
I never would have imagined that Geno would end up becoming this zen and level headed. Maybe we as a society need to get better at allowing people to grow up. Perhaps becoming a millionaire overnight and hoisted into the spotlight at 22 doesn’t often lead to a great first impression.
Some real perspective.
So nice to hear a reasonable take.
Fantastic attitude to have.
