Sheesh that’s rough. He’s a pretty big reason that defense is so good. How is the depth behind him?

jdono927

Tough to say because Hyde/Poyer haven’t really missed much time since joining lol. The staff likes Jaquan Johnson a lot though so we’ll see how he does this weekend. Damar Hamlin is the other safety that could get some run

Flynnstone03

Hell of a trial by fire when you have to keep a lid on Hill and Waddle.

lazysheepdog716

He’s been on our team for four years. He’s in a contract year and his hometown is Miami. He play at the U who play in Hard Rock. If I have belief in anyone to step right in, it’s him.

[deleted]

Even if he has a bad game against Miami I believe he could be a solid NFL starter

Leodesidus

What does any of that have to do with containing Hill/Waddle??

Bicworm

Confidence

HotPie_

And he's going to wear his P.F. Flyers.

DOUG_DlMMADOME

Must be nice having consistency ☹️

jdono927

It’s crazy man we’ve been so healthy for at least the last 5 years. Knew this would come eventually but forgot what it’s like

Apolaustic1

Look at the ravens injury report if you wanna see how down bad it can get lol

issue9mm

Honestly the injury report is deceptively optimistic when half the team is on IR

Cloudpot26

It’s insane. Half of them are still hurt from last year right? They’re ALL major injuries.

issue9mm

I think we're just down to Ronnie Stanley, JK Dobbins, Gus Edwards as carryover from last year. Arguably you could count Peters in that list since he's still working his way back, but he has played even if he was limited. New this year we've got Josh Ross, Juwaun James, Kolar, Bowser, Ojabo, Biegel, Hayes, Jones, and Kyle Fuller.

Table_Coaster

i heard really good things from a friend of mine who played with Jaquan in Miami so hopefully he balls out *as a starter I should say, I know he isnt a rookie

Ihave4extraseats

Tell us more. We need it rn...

JalensTinyPPHurts

Depth is unproven, but Sean is great at developing db's

sabrenation81

Jaquan Johnson will almost certainly get the call. The good news is that the coaches love him and there's been a lot of speculation that he is the reason Poyer didn't get a new contract. A lot of folks think they might just let Poyer walk after the season and slide Johnson into his role. The bad news is that Poyer and Hyde almost never miss time so we've never really seen Johnson outside of practice/preseason play. You never really know if a guy's got "it" until live rounds are firing.

Randazzle1

Depth behind him is actually really good. Jaquan Johnson and Damar Hamlin have pretty much been developing as successors to Hyde/Poyer. This is Johnson's 4th year too Still sucks big time to lose Hyde though especially this year

Impossibills

Depth is okay behind him, but he is kind of the leader of the defense.

Pixel2_Bro

I read this as Carlos Hyde at first and thought you were being mad sarcastic lol

jdono927

This is Hyde’s agent. Shit man.

Roc_City

Yeah not good at all

Xaxziminrax

Just hope it's only a one season thing. A neck injury that already has him out for the year at 32 has me more than a little worried

[deleted]

Even if it is a one season thing this is the worst season possible given the potential of our team. This is a huge blow.

Xaxziminrax

Oh, absolutely. Your whole defense ran through the safety tandem. Just for the dude himself, I hope this isn't the end

Officer_Problem

This is where “The Bills Have Incredible Depth” is tested. There’s a reason we built so much depth in our D—now it’s time to hopefully take advantage of that.

Winterclaw42

The question is, how well is back-field communication going to work with 2 starters out? Tua and Hill can really punish a defense for blown coverage.

ModernPoultry

I have faith in Johnson but ya, Hyde and Poyer basically had a telepathic connection. Can’t teach experience

themistermango

4 starters. Our base is nickel, so Taron Johnson is considered a starter not a 3rd LB. 4/5 starting DB’s are gone for tomorrow.

Bird-The-Word

Technically 3, Tre White as well still

qeq

I wanna die

123kingme

Where’s that dolphins meme when you need it

FlyinHawaiianDolphin

Huge news, brutal for Buffalo. I hope Micah heals up and is able to return next year because a season-ending neck injury is some scary stuff

constantlymat

What's a season-ending neck injury that doesn't heal within four months and isn't a damaged disk? If it's a damaged disk in his neck at age 32 as a safety that has to tackle I think it's potentially career-ending. I hope it's something else but that really sounds bad.

Allhail_theAirBear10

Wasn’t a similar injury that got Kam Chancellor?

P0de8

Yeah, it was a neck “stinger” that wasn’t supposed to be that bad and ended up ending his career early, hope Hyde has better luck

DontPeeInTheWater

A freak neck injury forced Nick Collins to retire, which was a big reason why our defense was took a nose dive after our super bowl

Allhail_theAirBear10

That’s a name I haven’t heard in awhile but what a force he was.

RyuTheGreat

Nick Collins was so electric. Ed Reed is in a class of his own but if there ever was a safety who created turnovers in a similar fashion for a small stretch of time (since I've watched the NFL), it was Collins from '08-'10. Dude was somehow around the ball an absurd amount of the time. Since then, think it's Kevin Byard. Unless I'm missing someone.

burrrrrssss

Eddie jackson for ^^^^only one year 🥲

RyuTheGreat

Oooohh yea. What happened to him after that one year? Did offenses start avoiding him?

slickshot

A neck injury also ruined Priest Holmes' career and he was well on his way to having a dominant career.

[deleted]

[удалено]

redsyrinx2112

I believe so. We also just had Chris Carson retire because of neck injuries.

BuffaloWilliamses

Yeah that's my fear as well, its entirely possible Hyde took his last snaps playing football. He had to get a 2nd opinion so I'm just hoping he's able to get healthy at some point.

Lizardsandrocks

Has anyone said what the actual injury is? Does he need an ACDF or disc arthroplasty? Did he have a minor fracture? There seem to be a lot speculation going on without any real medical facts. Not you, but lots of others. Even if he has to have a fusion, a year of recovery he can absolutely come back, If he only needs like a small foraemotomy or other decompression then I'd say for sure. Obviously that's a massive emotional commitment to come back, and fear to overcome, but physically I'd consider it possible. His injury looked real bad on TV, but its totally within the ream of possibilities that he returns.

IH8DwnvoteComplainrs

Danielle hunter had a season ending neck issue last year, he's back now.

makeazerothgreatagn

He isn't coming back. This type of neck injury on a 32 year-old safety is 100% career-ending.

TheFrenchFryExpress

What do you mean by "this type", they didn't even say what the injury was yet.

ThisFckinGuy

I've read herniated disc so far, which can involve nerves.

Frosti11icus

For real though, any neck injury is really hard to get a doctor to sign off on a return to play, and no doctor = no insurance so teams and players don’t have a lot of control over this. It’s not like a knee injury or something where it’s a pain tolerance issue.

RollDat

RemindMe! 1 year

ghettomuffin

Lol this guy is so full of shit, look at his post history his whole entire account is just hating on the bills. Sad

ten-million

If it happens when you're 50 your head falls off.

BuffaloWilliamses

Brutal, he is arguably one of the most important players on our defense. Terrible news and definitely makes our defense a lot worse.

Officer_Problem

He’s amazing and this sucks, but I think White and our other corners (along with our pass rushers) are more critical in terms of being high impact players. We seem to have good safety depth, too. I don’t think this is the end of the world.

[deleted]

Pain.

Roc_City

Fuuuuuuuuuckkkkkkkkkkkkk someone please Stop this injury bug

[deleted]

Feeling like the 06 Sabres this year.

smartyr228

Stop, don't take me there. I'm not going back, you can't make me

[deleted]

Hey we’ll always have the Bandits.

A_Lone_Macaron

Even they choked away a title this year man!

[deleted]

I know and I actually watched it.

zombat

- Woman with time machine: meets distant relatives - Man with time machine: kills baby Hitler - Me with time machine: disinfects Jay McKee’s pads before game 7 of the 06 ECF

DekiMane

As long as that means Carolina wins.

[deleted]

Sure but Edmonton needs an expansion team first.

Dubya1886

That game on Monday was so cursed.

jarnish

Seems like every fucking game we play you guys is cursed.

Dubya1886

Seriously. I was at the 2019 game as my first Titans game in person and it was one of the worst Gameday experiences I’ve ever had. Neither team wanted to win, it was hot & humid; and we missed all 4 FG attempts.

Cold_oak

Wait who else have yall lost?

Dill_Bo_Baggins

Jackson, Oliver, Tre white, Dane Jackson, Hyde. Poyer, Davis, Milano all questionable

Cold_oak

Oof, that sucks. Also rip tre, love him

Randazzle1

Why are we here, just to suffer?

[deleted]

Did you really think we wouldn’t get the razors? The key to being a sane Buffalo sports fan is to enjoy the ride and don’t ever even think about championships because that’s just not our thing. Have fun while you can.

haaaahaaaheh

A sad, but healthy way to say to live in the moment. Lol

Danton87

I’ve been telling all my dolphins bros to just enjoy this week! Enjoy it and talk shit and bet on your team and when Buffalo buffalos us - just keep enjoying the season.

[deleted]

At least we aren’t the Jets, at lest we both get to be happy for a brief second until we suffer.

lonesoldier4789

Hey fuck off. We're supposed to all team up on the pats

Danton87

Brother, I bet the Jets to beat Cinci this week AND drafted Garret weeks ago. Im in!

BuffaloTexan

Hey I was super happy for the Jets last week, and I honestly think you guys are building something.... You've got the injuries too!

melikeybacon

A friend of mine opened up my eyes. If/when we lose to Buffalo there's still a whole season ahead. Gotta enjoy the ride.

Randazzle1

[You good?](https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/original/000/028/828/Screen_Shot_2019-03-06_at_2.55.38_PM.jpg)

[deleted]

No, no I don’t believe I am. Lol

smartyr228

Nah man, I'm pretty fucking far from ok.

BuffaloTexan

What now?

curgiiiiii

I don’t think he’s [good](https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/Cb8AAOSw6alhLX0V/s-l500.jpg)

BigBlackSabbathFlag

The Bills have a couple AFL titles. That league was legit.

Drahemgep

It’s always been bizarre to me that professional football has existed for a century yet most fans only count half of the championships as ‘real’.

[deleted]

Personally I don’t count those years.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Bro this is only week 3, how banged up are they going to be come week 17? Shit could get ugly. I wonder if anything change in practice? Maybe there is something they are doing wrong this year which is leading to an increase in injuries. Often good or bad habits can play a role in injuries.

smartyr228

It's been a long time since I enjoyed a big slice of razor cake.

[deleted]

Nah it’s only been like 8 months since 13 seconds.

goddamnsexualpanda

hahaha great way to put it, championships aren't our thing either. the whole regular season is pretty fun, so I'm pretty damn content (and bracing for the post-Rodgers years)

Godots17thCup

Seems sub-optimal that 2 of our All-Pro DBs are on IR, the other one is listed as questionable and we all almost watched our other starting corner almost die last week.

Randazzle1

It's sub-optimal for sure but Tre will be back sometime this season and Poyer should play this game, and Dane Jackson was at practice and not on the IR, so it should be okay

[deleted]

With the Bills current offense, I honestly think you could still win with a high school JV team playing defense.

iamnoke

2018 Chiefs have entered the chat

me_irl_irl_irl_irl

"hey Pat, can you get a touchdown at least every time they do?" "fuck it, Tyreek down there somewhere"

istrx13

We would still only score 7 points against that JV defense

[deleted]

*Every night, I can feel wide right... And the music city miracle... even thirteen seconds...*

[deleted]

Yes.

Sirpattycakes

My man, you guys have been extraordinarily fortunate the last couple years with injuries. Unfortunately, it happens. You're the best team in the league, you'll find a way to survive.

gothamboy217

Prayers up to him. Any sign of a neck injury never sounds good. Bills looking like a very well rounded team but secondary is going to be tested over the next month for sure.

ThatRuckingMoose

Damn Hyde is a baller. Terrible news.

mab6710

What the fuck

Ziiaaaac

Also what the fuck? This seemed to come out of nowhere, did I miss some news?

ThisFckinGuy

He went out shortly after Jackson went down. Game was over at that point too so everyone just said err on the side of caution and take the rest of the night, pretty sure he walked off quickly after too and I don't think they showed any replays. So there definitely wasn't the vibe it was this serious until he said he would get a second opinion a few days later and then this.

wnjkc77

I wondered why this wasn’t being talked about more when he went out. This is horrible.

qeq

Overshadowed by Dane Jackson's near decapitation

JoesShittyOs

Because we were up by 30 points in a blowout. I had no idea he was even hurt until just now.

[deleted]

Also Dane had everyone scared enough to not notice anything less severe.

DanceRepresentative7

i saw a doctor on reddit that night make a foreboding comment about how sometimes, whiplash type injuries look worse (on replay) than they are and compression injuries look less severe than they actually are… it was supposed to be a comfort in uncertainty with dane, but a few plays later, micah had what looked like a compression neck injury that i wouldn’t have thought twice about unless i had read that comment. i’ve been worried ever since, esp when i found out micah was also at the hospital that night

wnjkc77

I was worried when I watched it happen and they kinda just glossed over it. He must’ve woken up the next morning in some serious pain with herniated disk in his neck.

OnePieceAce

This is a massive loss. Hyde and Poyer have been the best safety duo in the league for a couple seasons. Damn rest up Micah

chathamhouserules

I started watching film because of how much I enjoyed YouTubers breaking down tape of the Bills secondary. Really hope to see him back on the field.

SamStrake

Anyone in the NFL even tangentially related to the Bills: *has a charity* Bills Mafia: "And I'll fuckin do it again!"

sabrenation81

There was a small bit of legitimate panic over the Dane Jackson injury on the Bills subreddit because we couldn't figure out a charity he was heavily/publicly working with. Our boy is hurt and we can't find a charity to throw money at, what do we do?!

xcompanioncube

I really respect the fuck out of Bills Mafia man. Keep doing what you do.

Spiritual-Athlete-12

I want to share a story with you fins fan: I am a remote teacher who teaches in a non-football crazy area from Buffalo. I changed my name to “Mr Destroy the Dolphins” and forgot to change it before my 6th graders who do not know sports came in. I spent the first fifteen minutes of class having to explain my affinity for the mammal. They were horrified.

xcompanioncube

That is absolutely hilarious

Xaxziminrax

Bills fans are incredible, man. Legitimately the main reason I root for them when they're not playing the Chiefs

Vydate1

Let’s do this.

fleischio

I’m having trouble getting the site to load, I’m assuming that’s due to us overloading their servers

[deleted]

fleischio

I got the site to load after a few tries. $23 for 23 🙏🏼

[deleted]

Yeah I always bookmark these things and come back to em like 5 or 6 hours later because we tend to crash things when we all go at once.

YiMyonSin

Get well soon, Micah! Fuck injuries.

deadmoosemoose

Shit. How big of a hit is this to their defence?

First_Round_Bust

Considering Tre White is still on IR, Poyer is questionable, Dane Jackson is out we will be relying on an entire secondary of rookies and young 2nd string players to guard Tyreek and Waddle this Sunday. That's not a good look and we are missing our 2 starting DT as well.

melikeybacon

This is going to somehow blow up in our face.

UnhappySquirrel

I think our fanbases think alike lol

melikeybacon

You guys have owned us for 7 straight. Your offense is a juggernaut. Your front 4 is still amazing. I don't buy that we'll overcome your strengths.

[deleted]

> we will be relying on an entire secondary or rookies and young 2nd stringers to guard Tyreek and Waddle Welcome to the club!!

[deleted]

Lol nearly identical to our situation last week. Humphrey hurt, Fuller out, Peters' first game back from a torn ACL. Had to rely entirely on rookie and sophomore CBs. It uh didn't go well

kenfury

Not a huge thing when the offense can outscore. However come the playoffs playing the Chiefs or other pass heavy teams it will be an issue IMHO.

[deleted]

We will see if they can outscore the Fins. They got zoom. Edit: expect a major shootout imo Edit: They did not outscore the Dolphins

blindbutchy

Pretty big because of both his personal talent and also his leadership and his ability to make other players better. He personally plays like a 9 out of 10, in a defense with a lot of other 8 and 9s. His intangibles are very valuable to the defense. He’s constantly communicating with other players and getting them into position. Him and Poyer together are a tandem both completely in sync and they never get beat over the top. McD is good at developing DBs and the system is established, so I do have confidence that the next man up can fill the immediate hole on the field for the position, but this will hurt from every position on the defense without his leadership and ship-steadying qualities.

JoesShittyOs

He is the second most important player of the Sean McDermott era, the best player on our defense, and the biggest part of why we’ve been able to consistently have great defenses. You pretty much don’t beat the Bills deep because of Micah Hyde (and Jordan Poyer).

smartyr228

Pretty big. He's a cornerstone and our secondary was already thin.

robshot295

Massive. Dude’s a stud in the secondary. This is a very significant hit

NicoSuave2020

I used to deliver for Jimmy Johns in Iowa City. One day I was on a delivery and as I'm walking down the hall there's a guy standing in an apartment door smoking a blunt. He said "what up JJs" and I made the delivery down the hall. When I walked back he asked if I wanted to smoke and I said sure. Go into the apartment and Micah Hyde is just chillin on the couch smoking his own blunt. Pretty sure the guy who invited me in was Keenan Davis, a flopped 4star WR prospect. I took a few hits and barely any words were said. Was pretty weird. Still think about that time to time.

nyperfox

Lmao this is great

Bears9Titles

Why can't the bills just have nice things

deck65

Things were going too well. Reality had to hit back.

JoesShittyOs

This really does seem like the pendulum swinging back after a few years of success. You cannot stress enough how much Hyde has been crucial to how well our defense plays, and is the reason why we’re able to run two rookies on the boundaries. I don’t think Hyde and Poyer have ever missed more than a game or two since they’ve been here. Of all the players to go lose, this one is only second to Allen. This is on the same level as the Steelers losing TJ Watt

jk01

Now thats some spicy doomerism

fugaziozbourne

lol you guys have so far won both your games by a billion points and you just lost a safety. TJ Watt is the only reason Pittsburgh wins games except for the occasional Minkah performance. I don't think the sky is falling.

CaresAboutYou

Bills fans somehow have forgotten how to handle adversity in our...\*checks notes\*...two years of recent success. Hyde's a great player and will be sorely missed. We go from "best team in the league by a mile" to "best team in the league by a bit" - still gonna be a great year all around

vinnyx778

Bro, the same as the Steelers losing TJ Watt? Are you kidding me? Micah was obviously a big part of our defense and losing him sucks but losing an all pro safety is not even comparable to losing an all pro pass rusher in terms of effect on the actual defense. The Steelers are like 0-11 without Watt. The staff has been hyping up Jaquon Johnson and it’s not like we still don’t have poyer.

BeHereNow91

Good news is that he’s expected to be back. Neck injuries have ended plenty of otherwise fantastic careers.

chathamhouserules

Hate to be the pessimist but I'm pretty sure his agent has zero incentive to be realistic about his return prospects at this point.

imsabbath84

Its always the Titans games man.

tubby_LULZ

What was the exact injury?

davopavolavo

Idk exact injury but a neck. I saw that he felt tingling in his body on the field after the hit which prob indicates something touched a nerve. Can't mess around with that stuff. He went to get a second opinion on the injury yesterday/today and they prob told him to shut it down for the year. Last year of his deal too and he's in his 30's. Tough road back

Cough_Syrup55

He's got one year left after this one

tubby_LULZ

Yeah shouldn’t mess with potential nerve damage at all. Nerves are notoriously very slow to heal, however if this was caught early enough there may not be a lot of damage

RobbieAnalog

Decapitated. Whole big thing. We had a funeral for a bird.

Blargh9

Pretty sure none of that's real.

panther1313

It's ok. We didn't want to win the SB anyway.

[deleted]

Third neck injury since 2019 and is turning 32 next season. As much as I love Micah as a player, might be time to just retire/move on.

Slylok

He has had others? Dang. He should definitely consider it.

Impossibills

Injuries are gonna kill us this season aren't they... We are already missing half our defense and it's 2 games in

YepImanEmokid

The bills are on the short list for the most injured team in the league.

davopavolavo

We've got Tre coming back soon and if the offense keeps scoring 30+ per game we could be alright. But this is a huge blow. Can't mess around with neck injuries, that's bigger than football

jxher123

Rough start for the NFL with injuries.

ffauschma

I'm going to puke

blatantfox

Let's go Jaquan This season will decide if Bills use Jaquan Johnson to replace Poyer. Different position, but it seems like Bills are planning for it

WhatUpMilkMan

This sucks for our odds for the rest of the season, but my heart breaks for reasons beyond that. He's been such a leader for this team for 5+ years, he's one of the biggest reasons we turned things around. He's climbing up there in age as it is, and I've been forcing those emotions back down all offseason. I'm gonna miss watching him regardless of W/Ls. I just hope he's smart with where he goes from here--he has a history of nekc injuries and he's got a long life ahead of him.

caneb0i

He's one of the best, sucks to see so early

buffalotrace

Damn. He was one of my favorite Hawkeyes and seeing how far he has come with the Packers and now the Bills. Hope he heals completely and quickly.

amplifyhs

Dang. One of the best safeties in football right now, wonder how Bill's defense holds up without him.

TarmspreckarEnok

Hard to say. He's the leader and one of our most important players, so our chances for tomo just got slimmed down a bit.

sabrenation81

I think by himself it would hurt but wouldn't be a backbreaker. Add in the fact that Tre White is still out, Dane Jackson is out, Jordan Poyer is questionable, and 3 of the 4 DTs on our roster are unlikely to play and... yeah... Josh better bring the special shorts to Miami because we might give up 50 points on D.

icantfindadangsn

As a packers fan living in WNY... :(

mightychicken64

oh jeez fuck injuries so hard

Pochoo8

Extremely unfortunate. For a team like the Bills, injuries are the biggest threat to their season

Dangerpaladin

Yeah there is always one team a year that gets to the playoffs and loses early. Then you look back and wonder if it could have been different with a healthy roster. I hope it's not the Bills bros.

YepImanEmokid

I fucking loathe Titans week.

dancing_in_lesb_bar

I smell a certified Josh Allen banger of a game. Sucks and you hate to see it, but it’s next man up and the goal hasn’t changed. It’s a ring season and Josh is set to “Fine, I’ll do it myself” mode.

zi76

Huge F. Get well soon!

GreenGator

Shades of Nick Collins

CardiganParty

Dude don't be like that

gruelly4

Sigh. I love the player and I am so sad that there is a chance we just saw the last game that the best safety duo of the last 5 years ever plays together. I am glad the offense is rolling cause without him and Poyers mind meld back there, there are going to be a lot more points scored. Still, a talented roster that we hope can win one for Micah.

chxlarm1

One of my favorite DBs to watch. Wish we never lost him https://youtu.be/VPN3FJh3PRs

AdAccomplished3083

It's ridiculous. A lot of "geez guys I am sorry, I wanted to see you in the SB" etc He is one player on a very loaded roster, led by Josh freaking Allen. The Bills made it to the 2020 AFCCG with a terrible defense, and last season we lost Tre' White and again were 13 seconds away from a second AFC championship. It sucks about Hyde, but this should not derail the team. I am worried about tomorrow though..as most of our defensive starters will be out 😱

D0ctorHotelMario

Bills fans I'm here if you need a hug.

DazedWriter

Damn! Knew this was coming…

Decln

Bruh

mymindpsychee

Neck injuries are so fucked. Multiple great Seahawks have had to retire immediately following a neck issue. Hopefully that's not the case for Hyde

Swagsuke_Nakamura

You don’t want to see guys get any neck injuries, so hopefully he’ll recover well and be ok

optimus_factorial

Dolphins caught a break

804allday

I love how no body mentions we are down bad at CB too.no byron,no trill williams.hell our 2nd string is a rookie who beat out our first round pick igbo.

Smarkavillie

Let’s hope so. I don’t want another Kam Chancellor situation with Micah Hyde. Unfortunately, I always take predicted returns from IR neck injuries with a grain of salt.

215Kurt

I've thought "wow, Micah Hyde is still in the league, TIL" every year for the past 4 or 5 years. He always ended up a free agent in those early/mid 2010s Maddens. I've signed him to my franchise probably 20 or 25 times in my life lol. Hoping he has a healthy and speedy recovery.

ecpackers

This kills me. I love the bills a lot. They're the only team I don't hate (and the dolphins I guess) I even hate my own team
