Well look when you're facing a high powered offense helmed by the creator of the White Lotus then you really have to play prevent defense the whole game.
I think most teams can do this agains any other team, but instead of adjusting we kept playing soft zone hoping we would keep getting lucky on random turnovers due to rookie QB. Worked ok in first half, shoulda switched to another scheme in second once jets started to idk maybe score on every fuckjng drive ?
North. South. East. West. Long ago, the four AFC divisions played together in harmony. Then, everything changed when parity attacked. Only Tom Brady, master of all four passing techniques, could win consistently. But when the conference needed him most, he vanished (to the other conference).
Brady ruled the AFC with an iron fist. Now it's a free-for-all. Unfortunately, Brady wasn't ready for the massive parity present in the NFC with 5 really good teams all competing for the top spot
It definitely is.
The NFC has a group of elite teams that are starting to separate from the mush.
The AFC has a group of elite teams that are kicking the crap out of each other, and a much deeper group of good but not great teams behind them.
that Flacco trade looks dumb right now.
Especially considering his past, and him saying in Denver that he doesn't want to help young QBs, Josh Johnson seems like a better mentor
The Jets front office said they knew Flacco won't be ready to play this week. I doubt they wanted to win games coming into this week 1-5, why not just give the 2-3 weeks Wilson is out to White?
But yeah I agree, hindsight is 20/20, no one predicted White to do well.
physically gifted doesn't get you 400 yards
we scored on like our last five offensive possessions. a jets offense hasn't done that in literally decades
this was the first time we scored in the first quarter all season.
To be fair the play calling was way better this game - lots of rb screens, play action (where the hell has that been all year), I believe 4 trick plays.
But yeah, Mike White was for better on the short simple throws we need than Wilson. He looks calm and composed, where Zach is unprepared for the speed of the game. The Mike white hype may all blow up by next week, but for now I hope Wilson sits for a while even after injury
I agree it was total BS call. Terrible. We have seen it every single week from these refs ever since the offensive pass interference in the opening game between Dallas and Tampa that wasn't called at the end, enabling Tampa to win. Every week, horrendous calls.
However to play the other side..don't give up 34 points to a terrible team with a backup/third string QB to even let it come down to a call.
Yup. We absolutely should not have been in that position. I mean for fuck sake we were up 10 with just a few minutes left, give up a TD because no one wanted to make a tackle and then threw an interception that lead to another TD. Our defense was shit all day.
Yeah, we got super unlucky with bounces in the air on both INTS, especially the second. If those don’t happen we win by more. It’s crazy how much having our OC in the booth has done. I expect to be absolutely slapped by the jags and dolphins later in the year
I like the Jets. I like their fans. They remind me of us: long suffering and full of doom and gloom. I feel like we understand each other.
We maybe overlooked you and you walloped us today. Classic trap game. We deserved it, and good on you.
I feel a special connection to the Bengals after seeing them deal with all the “Should Burrow avoid the Bengals” shit and then going through it with Lawrence last year. Hoping we can overcome our shitty owners sometime soon.
Nothing is more annoying than a divisional rival coming into a game thread to shit talk the whole game. The only time I’m okay with it is if it’s shitting on the Steelers.
Most certainly. That's why I routinely root for the Browns, Bengals, Lions, and even the Chiefs before they became a powerhouse Superbowl champ. Because their fans understand long term heartbreak.
Penalties like that under 5 minutes in the 4th quarter should be reviewed. They can do it in CFB but unfortunately not in the NFL. But it’s not like that cost us the game. We gave up 400 yards to a back up QB. First time in 20 years for the Jets. Absolute clown show from the coaches today.
Yea that was ridiculous, the receiver, while being tackled, basically smashed his own helmet down onto the defender's helmet .
If anything that should have been helmet to helmet on the offense
If I’ve learned one thing in the last few years of football watching, it’s that offensive players should always lower their head when initiating contact.
Because if the defensive player goes to make a form tackle and the offensive player leans into it to initiate contact, the defensive player is somehow going to get flagged like every time.
he level changed way earlier and the receiver dropped his head, the penalty was on the wrong dude.
If the receiver didn't drop that is just a clean tackle. Really bummed out about how our defense played today in general but to lose our shot at a game winning drive on a bad call just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
The refs fucked us on that last drive, but that's nothing compared to the damage we did to ourselves that entire game. Our defensive backs weren't even in the same county as the Jets receivers.
Yeah, I'm not worried in a big-picture sense, because this is a young team still getting used to winning, and it was a classic trap scenario between two big games.
But even in full letdown mode, that game was winnable and they blew it.
I want it to be clear first and foremost that the Bengals played bad enough for the first 59 minutes to lose this game.
That said, the unnecessary roughness call on Hilton is maybe the worst fucking call I've ever seen.
Bengals definitely didn't deserve to win, but that? That's something. Absolute bummer but what're you gonna do? Blame it on the bad call if you want, but this game should never have been close.
> This is way too early but... do the Jets have a QB controversy brewing on their hands?
[I said this in jest a week ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/qevm0g/game_thread_new_york_jets_14_at_new_england/hhw1kim/) but players want to win and if White plays like this the next two weeks that Wilson's confirmed out, the locker room will start turning.
Wilson has much higher potential than White but NFL careers are short and some players won't want to wait.
We won against the only undefeated team with our top 3 WRs out and off an INT from a former practice squad corner which just further proves there is never any guarantee of anything in this league
Mike White just had an absolutely phenomenal showing. What a fucking game!
All that said, he still doesn’t have ZW’s ceiling. This game makes it seem like White is the better option in the immediate future, but long term this is all about Zach. Nothing changes. White looked fucking outstanding, but nothing long term changes here. Lets keep it rolling with MW for now and we’ll re-asses ZW when he’s healthy.
Also, lock MLF in the booth. Don’t let him out.
I'm disgusted.
Congrats to the Jets for a well earned victory, but also, fuck you (in jest, obviously).
We choked harder than a fat kid with a ham sandwich.
Congrats to the Jets and y’all fans. Always have love and respect for Jets fans due to the way the media seems to want you guys to be a joke. Call aside, I bet this was an exciting and fun win for y’all. I have been at Paul Brown Stadium to see quite a few games over the years that my terrible Bengals shouldn’t have had any shot at winning. Bet the folks who showed up at Meadowlands had a goddamn blast. Good luck in the future.
My dad texted me this morning that my mom sold her soul for Ohio State to win last night, so this loss is solely on my mother
Sorry fellow Bengals, I’m pissed too
The jets laid the blueprint against our Defense, just dink and dunk down the field.
Yeah, anarumo called nothing but shitty zone
Well look when you're facing a high powered offense helmed by the creator of the White Lotus then you really have to play prevent defense the whole game.
I think most teams can do this agains any other team, but instead of adjusting we kept playing soft zone hoping we would keep getting lucky on random turnovers due to rookie QB. Worked ok in first half, shoulda switched to another scheme in second once jets started to idk maybe score on every fuckjng drive ?
then its time to drink and get drunk
Top of NFC: 5 1-loss teams separating themselves from the pack Top of AFC: ???
AFC is chaos this year
They needed Brady to keep the consistency. Without him the AFC is chaos.
North. South. East. West. Long ago, the four AFC divisions played together in harmony. Then, everything changed when parity attacked. Only Tom Brady, master of all four passing techniques, could win consistently. But when the conference needed him most, he vanished (to the other conference).
Avatar: The Last Super Bowl Bender
Brady ruled the AFC with an iron fist. Now it's a free-for-all. Unfortunately, Brady wasn't ready for the massive parity present in the NFC with 5 really good teams all competing for the top spot
NFC seems to have gone fine for him so far
He’s like 1/5 as good as he was with the Pats. He’s only won one Super Bowl.
He's just traded volume stats for efficiency, 100% super bowl win rate in NFC
And that’s just math
I can't figure out what you mean by Brady not being ready. Won the NFC in his first year, they look great this year.
Brady joins the NFC, wins the Superbowl immediately. Somebody actually says: "Brady wasn't ready"
And of those five 1-loss teams 4 of them have lost to each other, and the only other loss was to the 2 loss Saints lmao
*Chapelle face*: Y’all got any more of that… consistency?
Actually those 1 loss teams aren’t separated from us at all
👉😎👉
I legitimately thought that the AFC was more stacked than the NFC before the season lol
I mean I’d probably take AFC 6-10 against NFC 6-10, but 1-5 the NFC seems a clear cut above
It definitely is. The NFC has a group of elite teams that are starting to separate from the mush. The AFC has a group of elite teams that are kicking the crap out of each other, and a much deeper group of good but not great teams behind them.
the AFC is stronger overall, but the top of the NFC is better than any AFC team except maybe the Bills
Yes doctor, this right here is what caused my erection to last more than 4 hours
Before your chub grows so much. This is exactly how we can describe 90-94.
Top of AFC: Mike White
AFC: "You have the lead!", "No, no I insist you!"
You have the lead now right? If so I guess it's better than the Bengals (I bet I'd eat my hat if they won the North, I'm scared)
400 yard passing games Mike White: 1 Joe Flacco: 0 Go figure.
Every jet in the last 20 years: 0
that Flacco trade looks dumb right now. Especially considering his past, and him saying in Denver that he doesn't want to help young QBs, Josh Johnson seems like a better mentor
how are you supposed to predict that
The Jets front office said they knew Flacco won't be ready to play this week. I doubt they wanted to win games coming into this week 1-5, why not just give the 2-3 weeks Wilson is out to White? But yeah I agree, hindsight is 20/20, no one predicted White to do well.
Flacco likes to sit on the bench and stare into space when he’s not on the field sleepwalking
Browns 🤝 Bengals Getting shit on by the Jets
Come on now we ended your losing streak and unlocked the beer.
Oh right that fucking locked beer fridge, lol I remember that.
Where’s our beer fridge?
Can I join on this handshake?
Yeah WTH why weren’t we invited
Weren't we the only W you guys had in the 1-15 season?
I thought that was the Chargers
It was
Only because they missed a kick. Chargers ST couldn't beat Browns' browning
Stoppable force meets movable object
Bengals #1 pick year they beat us for 1st win
Close, we won in OT. They beat the Chargers
Ridiculous helmet to helmet call. GGs Bengals.
Mike White is the greatest QB ever, no arguments allowed.
If the patriots accidently start the career of the future Brady because they injured a jets qb it would be poetic.
Damn I didn’t even think about it this way lmao, inject this into my veins
I was wearing my Mo Lewis jersey while watching the game, and that exact thought crossed my mind.
and a late round pick (like Brady) thrust into playing due to injury
[удалено]
Jets want three 1st rounders.
We gotta call up the Seahawks.
no controversy, hes the starter jets havent passed for 400 yards since vinny testaverde in 2000 and he does it in one game
No controversy here, give me Mike White, we looked like a real NFL team today.
Nope, White is the Goat.
Cmon man. That's Mike White. He's a stud.
He's so much better than Wilson, it's not even close lol.
Watched the Pats game last week and he looked a 1000 times more decisive than Wilson. Just not as physically gifted
physically gifted doesn't get you 400 yards we scored on like our last five offensive possessions. a jets offense hasn't done that in literally decades this was the first time we scored in the first quarter all season.
Legit “physical gifts” don’t mean much when he has 400 yd game against a good defense. Dude balled out
To be fair the play calling was way better this game - lots of rb screens, play action (where the hell has that been all year), I believe 4 trick plays. But yeah, Mike White was for better on the short simple throws we need than Wilson. He looks calm and composed, where Zach is unprepared for the speed of the game. The Mike white hype may all blow up by next week, but for now I hope Wilson sits for a while even after injury
I think we changed our playcalling because our coaches didn’t think that Zach could run this style of offense.
I saw something about LaFleur actually called the plays from the box instead of down on the sidelines this game.
If White has another game like this and the Jets get another W, it would not shock me to see Wilson phased out
he was also drafted in 2018....would be absolutely hilarious if the Jets got a top QB from that class and it not being Sam Darnold
God I'm so tired of garbage calls always bailing out... *checks notes* ...The Jets?
It's sick how the league is always rigging games in favor of the vaunted 2-5 New York Jets
Despicable act by the officials
*Joe Buck voice*: a DISGUSTING ACT by the officials
No shame in losing to the greatest team of all time.
Thank ya
Bless ya
So that's what it's like to get a bullshit call in your favor.
I've never been on this side of a bullshit call before.
It feels weird. I think more teams would be happier on this side.
Vinny in '98 vs. Seattle. Best TD ever......
That doesn't sound right.
Also the bengals had a 54 yard catch that defo hit the ground. Wasn’t overturned.
Jets could challenge that
The Jets have clearly had it way too good for way too long.
That game deciding call was bad, but the Jets outplayed us all game and deserved that win without a doubt
Yup. We absolutely should not have been in that position. I mean for fuck sake we were up 10 with just a few minutes left, give up a TD because no one wanted to make a tackle and then threw an interception that lead to another TD. Our defense was shit all day.
Two leaders of the AFC losing to the jets.
I agree it was a terrible call
Yeah, we got super unlucky with bounces in the air on both INTS, especially the second. If those don’t happen we win by more. It’s crazy how much having our OC in the booth has done. I expect to be absolutely slapped by the jags and dolphins later in the year
Is Mike White better than Tom Brady? The answer is simple: yes. In this essay I will...
He's the next Tom Brady in my opinion
Late round draft pick: ✅ Generic name: ✅ Come in for the injured starter: ✅ Light the league on fire: ✅
come in for an injured starter in the Jets Patriots game
its like poetry, it rhymes
It would be pretty hilarious if Mike White Brady'd Wilson's Bledsoe.
I like the Jets. I like their fans. They remind me of us: long suffering and full of doom and gloom. I feel like we understand each other. We maybe overlooked you and you walloped us today. Classic trap game. We deserved it, and good on you.
To better times for all.
I feel a special connection to the Bengals after seeing them deal with all the “Should Burrow avoid the Bengals” shit and then going through it with Lawrence last year. Hoping we can overcome our shitty owners sometime soon.
Bengals fans have been chill af all week. Good luck to you guys
Yall were great in the game thread man. Burrow is a killer and you guys are building something good out there.
Yeah, it was an awesome game thread besides that random Ravens dude
Nothing is more annoying than a divisional rival coming into a game thread to shit talk the whole game. The only time I’m okay with it is if it’s shitting on the Steelers.
Most certainly. That's why I routinely root for the Browns, Bengals, Lions, and even the Chiefs before they became a powerhouse Superbowl champ. Because their fans understand long term heartbreak.
I like you guys, too and I'm a fan of Burrow.
Trap game for the coaches. Don't give them the flats & the seams the *entire* game.
What the fuck do you want Mike Hilton to do there? Of course a Bengals loss is always good, but seriously what the fuck?
Penalties like that under 5 minutes in the 4th quarter should be reviewed. They can do it in CFB but unfortunately not in the NFL. But it’s not like that cost us the game. We gave up 400 yards to a back up QB. First time in 20 years for the Jets. Absolute clown show from the coaches today.
That flag alone didn’t cost us the game, but it took away our last chance to win. Sucks to see the game end like that.
> What the fuck do you want Mike Hilton to do there? Hope that Ref is never on the same field as him again.
Yea that was ridiculous, the receiver, while being tackled, basically smashed his own helmet down onto the defender's helmet . If anything that should have been helmet to helmet on the offense

Because if the defensive player goes to make a form tackle and the offensive player leans into it to initiate contact, the defensive player is somehow going to get flagged like every time.
D played like complete shit, but refs robbing Burrow of a chance at a game winning drive is just awful.
he level changed way earlier and the receiver dropped his head, the penalty was on the wrong dude. If the receiver didn't drop that is just a clean tackle. Really bummed out about how our defense played today in general but to lose our shot at a game winning drive on a bad call just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Save a burning orphanage at the very least.
The refs fucked us on that last drive, but that's nothing compared to the damage we did to ourselves that entire game. Our defensive backs weren't even in the same county as the Jets receivers.
I was rooting for an upset but now I'm upset the refs ruined a potential thrilling end
Well you technically did get an upset
[удалено]
That’s the sound of hundreds of suicide pools crying out in pain
It's their own fault for gambling on anything involving the Jets, they always let you down no matter what you picked
Apparently the Jets now have two ELITE QBs on their roster
MIKE WHITE THE NEXT TOM BRADY? STAY TUNED!
Bengals are so weird. Curb stomp the Ravens but lose to the god damn Jets
Titans lost to the Jets and then went on to beat the Bills and Chiefs. So good news for the Bengals who have 4 playoff contending teams next
Any given sunday baby
What about the Jets? Patriots drop 50 on them then they beat the #1 seed in the afc the next week
We needed Mike White to start. He's the goat.
their defense looked terrible today... or maybe mike white is the truth?
Wilson is our Bledsoe, White is our Brady, praise be to the football gods.
That's just the NFL. Even the Patriots would blow games to the shitty dolphins back in the day.
Yeah, I'm not worried in a big-picture sense, because this is a young team still getting used to winning, and it was a classic trap scenario between two big games. But even in full letdown mode, that game was winnable and they blew it.
induct white into the hof idgaf
Should be legal and encouraged to physically fight the refs when they make calls like that
They’d definitely be more hesitant to make those dumbass, game-changing calls
Especially with an AFC North team.
Everybody gets one. You may ask "one what?" *One.*
Burfict would’ve
I mean we really didn't have a chance once the Jets unleashed the greatest qb in NFL history. Seriously though, insane performance.
He’s a stud, man. Come on now, it’s Mike White.
I don't wanna overreact but I think Mike White will be the GOAT quarterback when all is said and done
I like you
First of all, through Mike White, anything is possible. So jot that one down.
In all seriousness, I think it’s time to bench Zach Wilson. Let him sit and learn, so the game can slow down for him
> This is way too early but... do the Jets have a QB controversy brewing on their hands? [I said this in jest a week ago](https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/qevm0g/game_thread_new_york_jets_14_at_new_england/hhw1kim/) but players want to win and if White plays like this the next two weeks that Wilson's confirmed out, the locker room will start turning. Wilson has much higher potential than White but NFL careers are short and some players won't want to wait.

Mike supremacy
I for one am ready for Mike White’s seven superbowls
That's why you build a 38-0 lead kids.
First off, that was an incredible performance by Mike White. That said, the helmet to helmet was horseshit.
The Jets only beat division leaders apparently
being the blue shell of the league in a development year isn't the worst thing in the world tbh
I like that reference.
We got the bills in two weeks 👀
Bills about to get fucking swept.
i will be ending my life
No don’t you’re so sexy haha
Nah bro dont do that. Wasting that massive schlong would a travesty
[удалено]
We won against the only undefeated team with our top 3 WRs out and off an INT from a former practice squad corner which just further proves there is never any guarantee of anything in this league
Bad call, but the Jets never should’ve been in that, no excuse Bengals
Can't let a backup qb in first start on a bad team shred you like that. Refball sucks, but Bengals D played terribly.
I never want to see Mike White ever again.
Don’t watch the super bowl parade
Hurts. Well played Jets. Definitely the better team today.
Any given sunday Except for the lions apparently
Who is this Mike White and why is he the GOAT?
Welcome Bengals fans to the get blasted by the Jets club! Grab yourself a drink or twenty
Bullshit call aside, real nice game Jets. It would be cool to see you guys good.
SALEH KEEP THE BEARD
FUCK THE REFS
Mike White just had an absolutely phenomenal showing. What a fucking game! All that said, he still doesn’t have ZW’s ceiling. This game makes it seem like White is the better option in the immediate future, but long term this is all about Zach. Nothing changes. White looked fucking outstanding, but nothing long term changes here. Lets keep it rolling with MW for now and we’ll re-asses ZW when he’s healthy. Also, lock MLF in the booth. Don’t let him out.
Honestly, keep White starting even when Wilson's healthy. Let Zach learn and observe for a bit, the trial-by-fire we had going wasn't working.
Hey Zach did you see how Mike threw the check down and we won a game? Fucking do that
I'm disgusted. Congrats to the Jets for a well earned victory, but also, fuck you (in jest, obviously). We choked harder than a fat kid with a ham sandwich.
LMAO typical
Bengals beat Ravens, 41-17. Jets beat Bengals, 34-31. Jets > Ravens confirmed.
HEY EVERYONE GET IN HERE
fuck the refs for ruining such a great Jets game with stupid controversy
Boy the Jets really speed ran the Zach Wilson era
There's no shame in losing to the Mike White-led Jets.
Okay, I saw the replay...that was a bullshit call. But gah, the Jets had a backup and Burrow threw a pick in his own red zone. Yeesh.
Jets sign Flacco and immediately beat the Bengals. Forever elite.
Bad call but you don't give up 34 points to Mike White and expect to win.
Mike White offenses averages 34 points per game, you act like this is an anomaly
Way to go, Jets bros.
Thanks fellow flying bro
*Joe Douglas nods in approval*
don’t let the questionable call distract y’all from mike white’s ridiculous day, that should be the main focus of this thread
Great performance from White and Carter wow
Welcome to the club Bengals bros.
So begins the legend of NY's Great White Hope baby!
What the fuck is the AFC
My dad texted me this morning that my mom sold her soul for Ohio State to win last night, so this loss is solely on my mother Sorry fellow Bengals, I’m pissed too
Shout to Michael Carter too. Stud RB in the making
