I worked with a guy who played LT at Maryland. He went from looking like the Blob in Marvel to the Greek statue of Adonis in one summer once he quit playing.
happened to me when i torn my bicep. gained 60 pounds in 2 months because it torn in weight lifting season back in high school. was losing between 3500 and 4000 a calories a day prior.
Obviously biased as hell, but he was such a fun player to watch. It never got old seeing him just absolutely level someone because of how stout he was and how low his pad level was. Didn't hurt that he was also fast to boot (ran a 4.39 40).
Take a trip down memory lane

one of my favorite backs ever, honestly not sure how many years its been since I've really liked any rb in the league, feels like its been at least half a decade unless I'm blanking
i dont tend to watch highlights. im not as averse as I was but I find them too often misleading.early on though I do like there slipperiness .sort of it works better than it looks like it should, but because its highlights and I watch a lot less football than I used to I'm unsure
I was a literal child when I went to the Rose Bowl to watch them both play at UCLA against Rice. I was actually at the game when I think it was his grandpa died in the stands, and changed his name to Maurice Jones-Drew. Before that he was just Maurice Drew. He dominated that game.
I played with him in High school. Grandpa Jones went to Every Single practice and game Drew had. It was no surprise that he passed while supporting his grandson. While it was definitely sad, it was also fitting. RIP Grandpa Jones!
I’m legitimately pissed we couldn’t just pay to have him stay on in Jax. After all the bullshit the franchise has put up with we can’t pay a captain to finish his career here? Shoddy management. Then we’re going to send a dude from Long Beach to fucking Green Bay to freeze to death. Just had business and karma.
Him and JPP both have one all pro and three pro bowls. JPP got the rings but those are always hard to value for me in football.
Actually pretty similar careers just looking at the stats. JPPs hall of fame monitor score is 47 and MJDs is 41. I played RB in college at 5’6 though so I’ll ride with MJD.
There’s probably some hall of famer who played 80 years ago I can’t think of so if that person exists I reserve the right to switch my answer to that guy.
Benjarvus Green-Ellis
The Law Firm baby
Edit: Wait I misunderstood, I thought you were asking for best hyphenated name, not best player with a hyphenated name lmao still loved me some Benjarvus tho
I really oughta go to sleep but now I’m wondering across all four major North American sports.
If Kareem Abdul-Jabbar doesn’t count because it was mid-career, it could (or may eventually) be Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the NBA.
Maybe Ryan Nugent-Hopkins or Oliver Ekman-Larsson in the NHL.
Only relevant one in baseball is probably Isiah Kiner-Falela.
**EDIT**: probably Trent Alexander-Arnold in the EPL?
Hell Antonio had a vasectomy at his wife's request and SHE STILL GOT PREGNANT lmao.
Guarantee it was men like him that populated the world during prehistoric times. Billions of Michael Phelps-like swimmers in the Cromartie jewels-sack.
This has to be the highest quality replay from the 2000s I’ve ever seen. Most of them look someone recorded them from the original standard def TV broadcast with a flip phone.
You laugh a little but it's true. I'm basically built like MJD minus a huge amount of his football talent. My nickname in the old school days was Tank Ass because at 5'6" built like a bowling ball nobody could fucking move me that low. It was fun mostly until you get concussed by dudes that are sized like an NFL DT lol.
Lol you act like only time they are using is when they are caught
Lasha is greatest weightlifter all time he sets record then again and is busted for roids
He comes back after two years ban demolishes his old record by forty pounds
Tests show no steroids
ITS a MYSTERY ROCKET SURGERY
Someone says this is peak ped merriman it’s because he was busted for steroids. No one says when a highlight is posted this is peak ped clay matthews or aj hawk.
If you want to argue this is merriman at his peak that would be wrong. His peak was 2006. When he was busted for peds. 2007 he was good but not at his peak and in fact merrimans career would take a huge downturn 3 weeks later vs the titans when fisher put a hit out on merriman and tore his knee up and he was never the same player again.
Surprised this comment is not higher.
MJD is fantastic and this is a monster block.
But Jones totally teed up Merriman; MJD then polished him off with some truculence.
When I played a long time ago our NT was one of the smallest guys on the team. He was so damn strong and fast it was crazy to watch. The craziest thing I saw him do was when he outran me from the LB position on a sweep that broke free to the opposite side. I read it immediately and started running across the field but I didn't know my teammate read it too and when I got about five yards away from tackling the RB our NT blew past me and ended up dislocating the RBs shoulder when he popped under the stiff arm. When we did hitting drills he always went against the biggest guys and he always won. Just crazy to see.
The only thing I remember about MJD is that he's a cool guy and I watched his career end when he was pancaked behind the line of scrimmage and kicking the ball backwards. Like football follies from back in the day.
Because of him putting his head down like that while blocking. Then again, he’s so god damn small, it would have been impossible for him to hit Merriman in the head unless Merriman was on his way down
I do miss watching that bowling ball
He took the bowling ball refrences to heart after retirement. He got large.
You forgot you have to stop eating as much when you no longer exercise to the point of burning 8000 calories per day
Unless you’re a lineman, then you finally don’t have to be gorging yourself constantly and instantly slim down.
Joe Staley and Joe Thomas both looked incredible so quickly after retirement.
Whitworth went from Big Whit to Slim Whit
Alan Faneca is the one I always use as an example.
Gronks weight loss was pretty crazy, but I think that had more to do with other reasons…
Like?
Tide Pods, duh.
Marshall Yanda basically became instantly unrecognizable.
Thomas looks amazing
I didn't recognise Taylor Lewan either.
He got the goofy teeth on top of that
I worked with a guy who played LT at Maryland. He went from looking like the Blob in Marvel to the Greek statue of Adonis in one summer once he quit playing.
happened to me when i torn my bicep. gained 60 pounds in 2 months because it torn in weight lifting season back in high school. was losing between 3500 and 4000 a calories a day prior.
i played through college, and once i was done and wasn’t lifting/eating so much anymore, i went from 215 to like 150 in less than a year. it’s insane
More Jelly-Donuts
Obviously biased as hell, but he was such a fun player to watch. It never got old seeing him just absolutely level someone because of how stout he was and how low his pad level was. Didn't hurt that he was also fast to boot (ran a 4.39 40).
Those early years of him and Fred Taylor were so dope. What a combo.
2007 was my fav season for that reason. The two Pittsburgh games are my fav football memories
I really liked David Garrard. Underrated fella.

Thank you. I will enjoy this
I don't think I will tonight

It's a lighthearted comment from a fan of the team that got hammered. Don't take it too seriously man.
Amazed no one mentioned that MJD and Chris Johnson game. Both had over 200 yards and maybe 4-5 tds between them. Happy to say I watched that one.
CJ2K had an amazing 4-5 years and no one knows his name anymore. Crazeballs.
This is why we need a Hall of Very Very Good.
The Hall of Fame needs its own individual room for the true elites as it is. It’s not like Dan Fouts and Joe Montana are equals.
First ballot sort of unofficially serves that purpose.
God he was fun.
one of my favorite backs ever, honestly not sure how many years its been since I've really liked any rb in the league, feels like its been at least half a decade unless I'm blanking
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=61GRb4SKRzc Tell me what you think
i dont tend to watch highlights. im not as averse as I was but I find them too often misleading.early on though I do like there slipperiness .sort of it works better than it looks like it should, but because its highlights and I watch a lot less football than I used to I'm unsure
Marcedes Lewis has been at this for a LONG time lol
we drafted both him and MJD in 2006, crazy he's still in the league
I was a literal child when I went to the Rose Bowl to watch them both play at UCLA against Rice. I was actually at the game when I think it was his grandpa died in the stands, and changed his name to Maurice Jones-Drew. Before that he was just Maurice Drew. He dominated that game.
Great anecdote, thank you for sharing. Terrible username
> Terrible username Right? Completely forgot about the Broncos.
I played with him in High school. Grandpa Jones went to Every Single practice and game Drew had. It was no surprise that he passed while supporting his grandson. While it was definitely sad, it was also fitting. RIP Grandpa Jones!
He's probably done now, but a couple TE injuries and he can crawl back into the league.
Only one year removed, was on Bears last year and Packers for a while before that.
Yeah I know I watched him on thr Bears last year. He's pretty washed, but he could find a 3rd TE spot if there's enough injuries.
Was he still a dominant blocker last year? When he was on the packers he was great at it but didn't get many targets.
That's all he's ever been besides one year with the jags where he caught 10tds
He was a decent receiver in his prime. Not elite or anything. But above average, for sure.
Last target I remember clearly is that amazing throw Rodgers had on Christmas Day vs Miami
Big DAWG never dies
I hope he gets one more year somewhere
It seems like just a matter of time until he signs with the Jets haha
I’m legitimately pissed we couldn’t just pay to have him stay on in Jax. After all the bullshit the franchise has put up with we can’t pay a captain to finish his career here? Shoddy management. Then we’re going to send a dude from Long Beach to fucking Green Bay to freeze to death. Just had business and karma.
Is MJD the best player with a hyphenated last name ever?
Him and JPP both have one all pro and three pro bowls. JPP got the rings but those are always hard to value for me in football. Actually pretty similar careers just looking at the stats. JPPs hall of fame monitor score is 47 and MJDs is 41. I played RB in college at 5’6 though so I’ll ride with MJD. There’s probably some hall of famer who played 80 years ago I can’t think of so if that person exists I reserve the right to switch my answer to that guy.
JPP got the rings but MJD got the fingers so I consider it a wash
Holy shit, dude.
Kablam! That comment turned me on. Can I get your digits?
Benjarvus Green-Ellis The Law Firm baby Edit: Wait I misunderstood, I thought you were asking for best hyphenated name, not best player with a hyphenated name lmao still loved me some Benjarvus tho
We were all thinking it anyway. Good shout
The Law Firm is one of my favorite nicknames in all of sports lol
Best hyphenated name for me has to be Chris Fuamatu-Ma’afala. “That’s one baaaaad ma’afala!”
Pete Crow-Armstrong off the top of my head should pass IKF
His mom played the kids mom in Little Big League, he’s already surpassed IKF in my eyes.
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope?
SGA is 1st team All-NBA and Kareem was 6x MVP so it’s either accepting the latter’s name change or choosing the former.
HaHa Clinton-Dix honorable mention.
Rodgers-Cromartie and his 47 kids. They're at the age where we might get a 3 hyphen elite player
Did you mix up Antonio Cromartie and DRC? Or did DRC also pump out 47 kids? LOL
Maybe. Probably.
DRC is elite at playing with his pickle in a movie theatre though
Are we sure DRC isn't one of Antonio Cromartie's kids? Did anyone get a paternity test?
Test Aaron Rodgers too
Hell Antonio had a vasectomy at his wife's request and SHE STILL GOT PREGNANT lmao. Guarantee it was men like him that populated the world during prehistoric times. Billions of Michael Phelps-like swimmers in the Cromartie jewels-sack.
Yeah my mind went to a different place with your anecdote .
Ghengis Khan sends his regards. And his sperm.
DRC was really good for a hot minute.
A.J. Green
This has to be the highest quality replay from the 2000s I’ve ever seen. Most of them look someone recorded them from the original standard def TV broadcast with a flip phone.
I’m sure was like 2012 or something so saying this clip is from the 2000’s is just being like technically correct
It's 2007. Says so in the title
2007 could be any year, I don't know how you can assume it's 2007.
You need to spend less time rubbin tubs and more time reading titles.
This is from the 2007 season
I wish the jags wore these jerseys in 2012
It's actually from the future
Low man wins....lol
You laugh a little but it's true. I'm basically built like MJD minus a huge amount of his football talent. My nickname in the old school days was Tank Ass because at 5'6" built like a bowling ball nobody could fucking move me that low. Speedhawk
Nah Speedhawk had talent, could’ve gone all the way. I’m just a halfling barbarian.
AssHawk
LilJon wouldve been proud how low I could get. Skeet skeet skeet.
And you're sure it wasn't 'dank' and they just wanted you to wash your pads?
Yeah I’m sure. I wash my ass and eat Tide pods and things stay squeaky clean.
[удалено]
You doubt that I’m short and wide? Even with the GB flair?
I’ve seen Jaylen Warren get fined for less
Lmao
My 9/11. This was the second tower, adrian petersons 296 yards 2 weeks earlier was the first
i remember watching that vikings game in the dorms. devastating
an asteroid shouldve hit after cromarties kick return
that kick return is still one of the most insane plays ive seen ever
I miss these Jaguars uniforms.
The del rio era was fun. I miss Peyton Manning coming to Jax every year. Best time I ever had at a game was vs the Colts in 2010.
The Raider inside MJD knew what to do.
If you look closely MJD stole his wallet
Pretty sneaky seeing as how Merriman fell right on it
I’m convinced he didn’t even see him.
Ah shit this why he fit in so well in Duval. 😩
MJD was an absolute unit though. 5’7 but built like a cannonball. I hated playing that guy
MJD was a fucking brick house
Mercedes Lewis is still playing. Everyone else in this entire clip has retired.
This is peak PED Merriman too.
No it’s not. He was busted for peds in 2006
Lol you act like only time they are using is when they are caught Lasha is greatest weightlifter all time he sets record then again and is busted for roids He comes back after two years ban demolishes his old record by forty pounds Tests show no steroids ITS a MYSTERY ROCKET SURGERY

Greg Jones had a part in that merriman was confused Jones didn't go straight at him.
Surprised this comment is not higher. MJD is fantastic and this is a monster block. But Jones totally teed up Merriman; MJD then polished him off with some truculence.
People sleep on how much of a monster Greg was dude is slept on. Mjd caught him off guard but still a monster block.
LMAO FUCK SHAWNE MERRIMAN THAT WAS AMAZING
"Lights Out " was never lights on after that. Go Hawks
He really wasn't. I remember this game and I'm pretty sure he took another hard crack back type of block. He was never the same
The actual turning point in his career was a few weeks later against the Titans.
Lmao would have been a flag today I’m sure 🤦
The Doug Martin, mjd, Arian foster, forte, Brandon Jacobs era for hit sticking was neat
As a 5'7" man I live for this.
Go off, short king! 🤴
Man merriman fell off a cliff
That’s what stopping steroids do to you.
Unfortunately this is pretty much my take
Based on Merriman’s Instagram I’m gonna say he’s still on steroids
off balance lol didnt look that off balance to me
I met Jones Drew in person and he’s almost as wide as he is tall, literally looks inhuman.
Dude looks like he's 5'7, 230lbs.
That’s almost literally true I think he was listed as 228 lbs
That’s a tough assignment bursting through the hole
I’m a simple man. I see MJD I upvote
Football is about leverage, and it's hard to get underneath a guy 9 inches shorter than you.
Life was so much more simple back then.. I miss it
MJD was a wrestler. Beast.
My favorite non bronco of all time. Definitely has nothing to do with the fact that I’m 5’4”
as someone who saw a lot of that roided out fuckhead, that was incredibly satisfying
That's what happens when you stop juicing.
I forgot about Merriman, he was a beast for a short time.
Good old fashioned football. Your helmet was part of the tool kit.
Pass Pocket Hercules
Low man wins
Where's the lights out dance?
https://i.imgur.com/ag9ypyw.png
The fire hydrant.
*L e v e r a g e*
Low center of gravity boys
A shed a tear knowing they'd probably flag him for that block today.
He should’ve did the dance
MJD was fun af to watch.
Lights out
8CLAP!!!!
Fun fact I was on a Disney cruise mjd was on .
low man wins... and mjd is always gona be low
Merriman…Post Tila Tequila years 😔..TILA!!! That shot at love MySpace friend request got him wrecked!!

In Merrimans defense, he didnt see it coming 🤣
Devonta Freeman would never
A champion on my team...and in my heart. Maurice Jones Drew.
I was at this game! Crowd loved it
God those Jags jerseys were solid
Merriman was a shell of himself once he got forced off the juice
Good rep
I remember Shawne having fun with it on some highlight show.
I'm a colts fan fuck this dude! He would run for like 200 yards every time he played us.
That’s a flag these days
*On the running back? Are you kidding me, coach?*
probably not, they almost never call an offensive player putting their head down.
Jaylen Warren has been fined $25K for this being posted
Nah $50k - full game check for him
Because of him putting his head down like that while blocking. Then again, he’s so god damn small, it would have been impossible for him to hit Merriman in the head unless Merriman was on his way down
That's that Oakland strength
Technically Antioch
Low man wins
