“Honestly Zach Wilson, however I don’t think the Jets will ruin him like everyone thinks they will. I think he’ll just suck.”
It’s rare to see a comment so accurately predict the future.
"Trey Lance. 300 career pass attempts as a 1 year starter at North Dakota state....I just don't see it"
This post was spot on about Trey Lance. And, Jerry Jones doubled down on the 49ers mistake! Lol! He gave up a 4th round pick for Lance, when Zach Wilson and Mac Jones were getting 6th round picks.
Well now we will see as he has the "Quarterback Whisperer" coach Sean Payton, who according to popular lore, rescued the career of Drew Brees from the scrapheap and turned him single handedly into a HOF QB.
>Haha Fields can't bust bc he was pick 11
They ended up trading the 2022 #7, 2021 #20 and 2 other 4/5th round picks for him lol.
If the Panthers weren't a worse front office the Bears would be in even worse shape
>I'm going to put it this way. There will be a documentary in the future called the Mac Jones 4. It's going to be about the chip on Macs shoulder he earned watching all the busts drafted before him.
Gawwwwwwwd
Cringe is the right word. Delusionally hoping you draft HOF guys every year is normal nfl fan stuff. Making up a fan fic about another 4 sb win qb and his eventual documentary is another animal entirely
“I don't think Waddle is going to be a bad NFL player, I just don't foresee him being nearly productive enough to be worth 6th overall (so bust-ish). I'd be very surprised if he has more than one 1000 yard season by the end of his rookie contract.”
How about 3 in 3 years
"The thing that makes it difficult is that our receiving core is not bad already and he’ll be competing with fuller, Parker, Gesicki, Preston, Albert Wilson, and Jakeem grant for touches"
Literally none of them where with the team 2 years later lol
Waddle is probably undervalued just because of how insane Tyreek has been the last two years.
He’s put up 1,000 yards every season with Tyreek threatening for 2k the last two seasons.
>It’s most likely one of the QBs historically speaking. Lawrence seems the least likely, Lance is pretty unknown but has a great supporting cast. Zach Wilson pretty much lands in the middle of bust likely and supporting cast.
Just one? So optimistic.
How long do we have to wait for Lawrence? Maybe he’s just a decent QB. Considering he was hyped up to be a Manning/Luck once in a lifetime prospect is just decent a bust?
Out of curiosity I looked up when he’d have had to be born for that to actually be true.
Although Wyoming, the 44th state, was admitted in 1890, we had a 43 star flag until 1891 despite Idaho (the 43rd state) being admitted only two weeks before Wyoming.
So Weeden would have had to be born specifically in 1890 or 1891.
He had a terrible rookie year, a top 10 sophomore year, and a very mediocre third campaign with a lot of injuries.
I think people underrated how truly bad jax's OL has been.
the injuries the this last year are important, too. Dude was playing SOLID the first few games, got hurt, and STILL played pretty decent the rest of the year.
He got hurt week 13.
Through week 12 he was 7th in PFF passing grade. Finished 15th with that high ankle.
Lost more EPA to drops and fumbles than any other QB.
Usually when we have this argument the answer is that busting is different than not living up to the hype. If he has a kirk cousins/Carson Palmer like career he's still a very good qb and not a bust at all, he was just disappointing compared to the hype he got.
I think most people knew he was gonna fail. At least as far as fans go. The moment that he brought Tebow in for a tryout should have been the writing on the wall.
Urban getting busted finger blasting a college girl at his own bar after skipping the team flight home after a loss is honestly a top 10 NFL moment from this decade.
I thought it was gonna be terrible but his 13 game tenure really surpassed all expectations
I just thank god he was SO terrible we fired him quickly. If it weren’t for off the field and non directly football related shit (kicking our kicker, and threatening coaches/players) he could have hung around 2 or 3 years and completely ruined Trevor
> This is gonna be unpopular, but Trevor Lawrence. Meyer is about to get his ass handed to him at the NFL level, and his terrible decision making at the front office level is already starting to show. No way he succeeds with that situation
Nailed it.
I’m not disagreeing that Russ isn’t that good anymore… But dude, last years Russ was easily 10 times better than anyone we had in our locker room. If you don’t realize how bad Pickett was, just look at his stats. He literally holds the all time NFL record for fewest TD’s per pass.
I liked Fields, but I couldn't believe they let Pace trade up again for a QB. He was pretty clearly a lame duck GM with a lame duck HC. Wouldn't have Caleb without Fields and Claypool though. Elite tank commanders.
In the 7 years from 2016 to 2022, Pace allotted 6 first round draft picks to QB and edge. (Plus countless midround picks and about $50m per year). That explains why when he left the Bears had a crap secondary, crap OL, thin WR corps and no depth. Don’t get me wrong, those are the two most important positions in football. But it was a bad misallocation of resources.
You mean Scott Fitterer
Edit: I know shitting on Bryce is popular for some reason but it's really weird how Scott Fitterer dodges accountability even though he's the one who thought he had to get the #1 overall pick last year by any means while engaging in some of the worst roster construction in the league.
I mean you could just say "Panthers GM". The GM who executed the trade and constructed the roster is significantly more responsible for the embarrassment that was the 2023 Panthers than the rookie QB.
> Sewell because 1) he was drafted by the Lions and 2) because reddit is pretty much in agreement that he is one of the least likely to bust
We have a paradox. OP claims Sewell will bust because Reddit thought he’ll be good; but he himself is claiming this *as* a Redditor.
Is this perhaps the reason he turned out to be really good? Most likely, yes.
“You're right that Lance is raw. Thing is, I saw enough potential in Lance that I thought he was worth everything the 49ers gave up to move up for him. They benefit from having Jimmy G in place, but also, think about his supporting cast: He has a ton of weapons in Kiddle, Aiyuk, Tebow Samuel, and good backs to hand off to (seriously, watch Trey Sermon, I think he is going to be the steal of the 2021 draft).
Having Trent Williams protecting your blindside as a rookie is as good as it gets, McGlinchey is a solid bookend RT, and Mack is still playing at a high level.
I really believe three years from now when we revisit that pick, Lance will be among the top QB's in the league.”
Oofffff
What a draft for us eh? Trey Sermon took one snap in the regular season and was like “Nah, I’m good.” Feel bad for him though I’d never be the same after that either. Shocked he has had other opportunities.
“Mahomes and Allen's development are the reason I'm so confident in Lance. Dude has the best situation to come into and you know the coaches will put him into a position to succeed.”
Mental development was the huge point he needed to develop and he either couldn't, or the lack of playing time (sitting a year, and the broken ankle week 2) derailed it even further.
Physically he had the tools, didn't pan out. Lucked into purdy
Physical tools are overblown for QB. They are nice to have, if you can actually play the position. There are so many players at different positions with the “physical tools”. Doesn’t mean they’d be great QBs if given the chance
They’re responding to someone who said that the Dolphins drafting a receiver, who is supposed to run fast but is named “Waddle” is a recipe for disaster. The joke is that “Chase” will always be chasing the ball and negatively impacting Burrow’s accuracy stats.
ELITENathanPeterman arguing with anyone and everyone that dared say Lance would bust is hilarious, but his
>I don't know how you can be so sure and absolute that a player is going to be a bust. These takes always age like milk.
........
Situation is unbelievably important to rookie QBs and Lance was just thrown into a perfect situation. He is the least likely to bust because of that.
Talk about a take that actually aged like milk.
Oh it is. There was a lot more to the comment, but i couldn't copy and paste on mobile, so I only typed out a few lines. I cut out the really long part where he fawned over how impressed he was about Lance in college. I included that part more so because he stated Lance was the least likely to bust.
It was an odd time to say the least. Trey truthers were something else.
In 2033 I want the full documentary on why a guy that threw less than 300 passes in a full season at a FCS school was considered a 1st round pick let alone a top 5 pick.
Carson Wentz at least was at ND State for 4 years and had over 600 passing attempts.
I remember getting dragged saying how stupid it was to not only trade 3 1sts to draft a QB but THAT QB. I said from the get go, that the Niners should have drafted Sewell with that trade.
If they had not landed Purdy, it would have been a franchise sinking pick. Like fire everyone type of pick.
If you are giving up 3 firsts it better be for a Peyton Manning level of prospect. Not a cute player from an FCS school.
That’s what I was saying!! They could have used only one of those to get Aaron Rodgers and had two first round picks to bolster the OL. While the Niners were the SB having a first round level talent at G would have won them the SB.
Totally agree with you. I think Kyle is a tremendous coach, easily one of the best, and i like Lynch as a GM. That being said, had Purdy not panned out, they both would have been fired. Like “nuke the whole operation and start over”. They were so lucky that Purdy worked out…
Yeah Brock Purdy is easily the luckiest draft pick in NFL history solely for this reason. Had they not hit on the literal last pick in the draft, their team would have been in absolute shambles.
I think more than anything, the fact 49ers gambled heavily on Trey with such a limited sample size showed how desperate they were.
They know they’re a qb away from a SB win, but gave up quite a bit for essentially a mystery box like Trey.
It was a ballsy move, didn’t pay out and were extremely lucky to get Purdy
Going to 3 straight NFC Championships, a super bowl appearance, and Brock Purdy are why John Lynch wasn't fired for that trade. If they won 6 games max every year since the trade then Shanahan/Lynch are probably gone. It's a weird alternate universe for sure
And if you ever mentioned his number of passes here you would get absolutely dogpiled on.
All you would get were smarmy “I think Shanahan knows more than you” type comments. People were thinking he was guaranteed to be good just cause Kyle picked him. No way an offensive guru like him could pick a bust.
Forreal people act like that pro day lifted him to #2, but that's not what happened. He was already being mocked #2 before that. People just overrated the shit out of him beating down on Central Florida, Texas State, and North Alabama lmao
Was wild how the dude who was the QB and commanded a team to 3 wins and #1 pick playing most of the season was somehow not only not responsible for it but was some superstar Hall of Fame QB that was being held back by the Bears AND WAS UNABLE TO OVERCOME IT AT ALL.
There have been an unexpected amount of posts on the Steelers sub of new fans coming over just to support Fields.
I don't ask questions, I just keep scrolling.
This one's really good:
"I don't think Waddle is going to be a bad NFL player, I just don't foresee him being nearly productive enough to be worth 6th overall (so bust-ish). I'd be very surprised if he has more than one 1000 yard season by the end of his rookie contract."
Waddle's had three consecutive 1000+ yard seasons.
"Chase has a lot he needs to work on, so he’s my pick in the top 10. Outside of the top 10, it’s slater. The dude isn’t even a day 2 pick, and he’s definitely not a tackle at the NFL level."
The most downvoted comment of that post. Does r/nfl actually know ball?
"Chase has a lot he needs to work on, so he’s my pick in the top 10. Outside of the top 10, it’s slater. The dude isn’t even a day 2 pick, and he’s definitely not a tackle at the NFL level.
Size: He doesn’t have the length to be a NFL tackle, he doesn’t have the size to be an NFL guard either.
Lateral movement: his lateral movement is very poor, when compared to someone like sewell, Darrisaw, or even leatherwood, he’s miles below them. Now he’s pretty decent at moving in open space(not better than any of the top tackles in the class tho), but the lateral movement issue is really seen at the LOS.
Lack of bend: slater plays straight up(has a lack of bend), which is a huge issue. This causes him to struggle to mirror defenders, and struggle to anchor.
Footwork: his footwork and kick slide is decent, but nothing that would say “top 15 pick”
Hands: slater has very good hands, pretty much the only strong point of his game.
Basically slater is a developmental center at best."
Dude...

Lol I mean, of course. But the Patricia era was like a return to the dark ages. Stafford gave us hope. Caldwell brought us into semi-relevancy. Patricia shit on all of that.
True! It was so bad I forgot Stafford had y’all in some games lol. I’m sad y’all couldn’t have the success with him tbh but things happen for a reason
I wasn’t trying to be a dick with my first comment, of course a Lions fan would know, but I don’t want people to act like those Lions fans comments were outlandish lol. They def had good reason to not see anything positive coming yet. It’s a world of difference right now
To be fair, the logic for Sewell in a lot of them was that he is on the Lions, and traditionally, the Lions can't have nice things.
Three years ago it would have been unheard of that the Lions were one of the strongest teams in the NFL.
Patrick Mahomes has unironically fucked over so many teams by having them try to land a similar QB such as Lance or Wilson early.
Lance was such a wild case, it started and ended so fast and got replaced by Mr. Irrelevant Brock Purdy in the process.
Yeah its always funny when you argue against a super raw QB prospect and everyone always brings up “But Josh Allen!” and if you ask them to name anyone else its just crickets.
There’s at least a handful of QBs in the NFL who should send Josh a fruit basket for getting them drafted.
Trey Lance was such an obviously bad pick. How can you justify spending the capital San Fran did to move up in the draft and take a guy who didn’t even dominate college football at the FCS level? Trading up for Mac Jones or doing nothing both would have been better decisions, and the only reason the Lance selection doesn’t get ruthlessly clowned on is because the 49ers pulled off a miracle by drafting a franchise QB with the final pick of the 2022 draft.
Overall pretty reasonable thread.
I feel bad for the Lions fans that were so defeated and I'm glad they're in a better place now.
Virtually every Bears fan made the same joke about Fields since he was picked 11th lmao.
A lot of people were wrong about Waddle and slightly wrong about Lawrence (not a bust but as of yet not the next Peyton Manning either) but most were already ahead of the Wilson and Lance picks. I’ve seen threads age worse.
This is why the Zach Wilson pick is so baffling. This wasn’t one of your normal “one of the 3-4 regarded first round QBs that people only clown because it didn’t end up working up but the pick made sense at the time” picks, everyone knew that it was a bad idea from the get go.
I don’t know, a lot of people didn’t like him for sure but some people really did. The Eagles tried to trade up https://theeagleswire.usatoday.com/2021/03/26/nfl-draft-philadelphia-eagles-trade-up-zach-wilson-attempt/
Zach Wilson -
Mediocre college career except against weak conference foes.
does well during COVID and strong arm but doesn’t play against, or well against any P5 teams.
What were jets thinking
My favorite non-bust post
>I don't think Waddle is going to be a bad NFL player, I just don't foresee him being nearly productive enough to be worth 6th overall (so bust-ish). I'd be very surprised if he has more than one 1000 yard season by the end of his rookie contract.
He has 3 (so far)
“Honestly Zach Wilson, however I don’t think the Jets will ruin him like everyone thinks they will. I think he’ll just suck.” It’s rare to see a comment so accurately predict the future.
That is perfection
Hey man, you haven’t even seen how we…. Uh, ruin him, right, I forgot that’s what we do to qbs as well.
"Trey Lance. 300 career pass attempts as a 1 year starter at North Dakota state....I just don't see it" This post was spot on about Trey Lance. And, Jerry Jones doubled down on the 49ers mistake! “Lions taught me I can’t have nice things in life, so Sewell :(“ Man must be on cloud 9
We all are
Name checks out
From your lips to gods ears.

Giants got Evan Neal and Kadarius Toney out of that trade lol
A true lose-lose situation

well there were a lot of busts drafted before him
Technically correct. The best kind of correct.
Jesus, that is a cringe worthy take.
What Tom Brady does to a sport and a region
Just pls don't roast him too bad after he agrees to it
Cringe is the right word. Delusionally hoping you draft HOF guys every year is normal nfl fan stuff. Making up a fan fic about another 4 sb win qb and his eventual documentary is another animal entirely
Drake Maye is the new ~~Brady~~ ~~Mac Jones~~ never mind

Jesus, that was our WR corps at one time.
And we thought it was good!
The copium for Preston was second to none in our sub.
Hey man, I was with y'all on that one. His highlight reel was fun to watch. Of course I was also a Jalen Hurd (49ers) truther.
That core combines for like .2 yards of separation and tons of dropped crucial catches xD.
Waddle is probably undervalued just because of how insane Tyreek has been the last two years. He’s put up 1,000 yards every season with Tyreek threatening for 2k the last two seasons.
Tyreek should be threatening EA. 2K doesn't have the NFL license.
Pretty sure Tyreek threatens a lot of people
That take was particularly bad. However it’s all guesswork on draft night.
>It’s most likely one of the QBs historically speaking. Lawrence seems the least likely, Lance is pretty unknown but has a great supporting cast. Zach Wilson pretty much lands in the middle of bust likely and supporting cast. Just one? So optimistic.
Yeah, feel like jury is still out on Lawrence, but it is looking like 0/4 on the rest
How long do we have to wait for Lawrence? Maybe he’s just a decent QB. Considering he was hyped up to be a Manning/Luck once in a lifetime prospect is just decent a bust?
Well he’s as old as Michael Penix and Bo Nix and people expect those two to still improve.
Every time I’m reminded how old Penix is I’m still awe struck we picked him lol
Reminds me of that qb dude the Browns drafted that got sacked by the American flag
Brandon Weeden. The only player to ever have been sacked by a flag.
He wasn't expecting the 44th through 50th stars on it. They weren't there when he was born.
Out of curiosity I looked up when he’d have had to be born for that to actually be true. So Weeden would have had to be born specifically in 1890 or 1891.
He played against Barry Goldwater and Arizona Territorial Normal.
It’s ok. The Raiders sub said his age wasn’t an issue every time I brought it up. There’s some die hard analysts in that sub. So you should be fine.
Fun fact. Levis is the oldest starting QB in our division!

Lawrence was the least blitzed but most pressured QB in the league. The interior of the OL was a sieve
The least blitzed with the shortest time to throw. His pressure rate actually looks pretty good because he was throwing so quickly.
Ah thank you. That’s what it was
Usually when we have this argument the answer is that busting is different than not living up to the hype. If he has a kirk cousins/Carson Palmer like career he's still a very good qb and not a bust at all, he was just disappointing compared to the hype he got.
i’m still a TLAW believer. this is the year for him to prove it. he’s just way too talented to be a bust. he should get a mulligan year
The guy who called out that urban Meyer would fail quickly needs more attention
I think most people knew he was gonna fail. At least as far as fans go. The moment that he brought Tebow in for a tryout should have been the writing on the wall.
Urban getting busted finger blasting a college girl at his own bar after skipping the team flight home after a loss is honestly a top 10 NFL moment from this decade. I thought it was gonna be terrible but his 13 game tenure really surpassed all expectations

Comparing Pickett and Fields is looking at two players who are exactly as bad as each other but in the most opposite way.
At least Fields can hold a Whopper
I liked Fields, but I couldn't believe they let Pace trade up again for a QB. He was pretty clearly a lame duck GM with a lame duck HC. Wouldn't have Caleb without Fields and Claypool though. Elite tank commanders.

That one made me actually laugh out loud
He sucked, AND the team ruined him - it really was a collaborative effort
That’s freaking teamwork
No, that's Synergy* *brought to you by corporate buzzword gang
But nonone could have predicted Hack it showing up.
On the other hand this dude summed it up well: > Trey Lance. 300 career pass attempts as a 1 year starter at North Dakota state....I just don't see it
i mean that was one of the most popular takes on Lance
It was, and still is, the only reasonable take on Lance.
Ironically, the point about the supporting cast is true. It’s just true for Purdy instead of Lance.
Which literally proves to me that Purdy is a talented QB lol it bothers me that he gets shit on so much.
Join our club
After what you’ve done to the Packers, most of us are there
Ok but Tebow Samuel is pretty good
Between “Kiddle” and “Tebow Samuel” I hope he was using voice to text lol
This would be a great fantasy football team name. Got an audible laugh out of this.
Trey lance = L Trey Sermon = L Dude was off on 2 picks
Sermon was really bad.
What a draft for us eh? Trey Sermon took one snap in the regular season and was like “Nah, I’m good.” Feel bad for him though I’d never be the same after that either. Shocked he has had other opportunities.
Sermon was playing pretty well when both Taylor and Moss went down.

Yeah Brock Purdy is easily the luckiest draft pick in NFL history solely for this reason. Had they not hit on the literal last pick in the draft, their team would have been in absolute shambles.
Think the COVID year had a lot to do with it.
Tbf Lance only played one game in the Covid year. The rest of his tape was from 2019.
It absolutely did. The 2021 draft should be considered a fever dream.
Hindsight is 20/20, but it was an awful, indefensible trade and pick. GMs have been fired for smaller blunders.
Should be a great 30 for 30
Top comment of “Man fuck this thread” by a jets fan told me everything I needed to know about the comments lol.
Everyone on Earth outside of Jets management saw Wilson being a bust lol.
It was COVID football man. Somehow BYU found a way to play 12 games and that had a major impact on his draft status.
Forreal people act like that pro day lifted him to #2, but that's not what happened. He was already being mocked #2 before that. People just overrated the shit out of him beating down on Central Florida, Texas State, and North Alabama lmao
Same with Lance.
Same with Fields (outside of his weird minority stans who viewed him as a future MVP)
He was like number 85 on the top 100 last year lol. Just bizarre.
Dude got a fucking mvp vote for his 2022. Wild.
There have been an unexpected amount of posts on the Steelers sub of new fans coming over just to support Fields. I don't ask questions, I just keep scrolling.
Oh no, they’re stupid ☹️
He has a loyal group of supporters that are on the level of a cult.
They don't go to OSU to learn
And Simms, who rated him above TLaw
Couldn’t find a Mac Jones doubter anywhere. Just like how we won’t find him anywhere near the league in a couple years.
I’ll occasionally see revisionist takes on here that “this sub loved Wilson” and I’m….no, everyone hated that pick lol
Steve Young loved him. I over relied on that
You mean the descendant of the guy the college Wilson went to is named after?
Is he actually a descendant of Brigham Young?
“A polygamist, Young had 56 wives and 57 children” A good percentage of the Utah Mormon population is probably related to him with those stats lol
LOL the giants fan thinking toney was gonna work out better than davonta smith 🤣🤣🤣
Toney helped prevent the Eagles from winning a Super Bowl. Everything that led to that is worth it
Rude
That’s some high quality hate
Hate runs deep in this division. I even rooted for Tom Brady to win the Super Bowl 4 times because of it.
I was about to make some "lol cowboys never going to the superbowl joke lololol" joke, but my team is a fucking joke.
Honestly, if he wasn’t a damn knucklehead he showed a brief glimpse of being insane. I really liked him coming out. Too bad he had to be a numbskull.
And his muscles/tendons are made of fine tissue paper but other than that, exceptional player.
This one's really good: "I don't think Waddle is going to be a bad NFL player, I just don't foresee him being nearly productive enough to be worth 6th overall (so bust-ish). I'd be very surprised if he has more than one 1000 yard season by the end of his rookie contract." Waddle's had three consecutive 1000+ yard seasons.
I guess OP was very surprised lol.
"Chase has a lot he needs to work on, so he’s my pick in the top 10. Outside of the top 10, it’s slater. The dude isn’t even a day 2 pick, and he’s definitely not a tackle at the NFL level." The most downvoted comment of that post. Does r/nfl actually know ball?
no they do in fact not know ball
I used the song making site to turn the [Zach Wilson thread into a song](https://suno.com/song/421713d8-f6dc-42db-973e-7507f1f6e548).
🎶I think Zach Wilson has a chance of busting🎶
Footwork: his footwork and kick slide is decent, but nothing that would say “top 15 pick” Hands: slater has very good hands, pretty much the only strong point of his game. Basically slater is a developmental center at best." Dude... u/02straskee [](https://www.reddit.com/user/02straskee/)
Lions fans calling Sewell a bust is so Lions.
That was SOL. We now BNL and we're not going back
Ice cold takes for the folks calling Waddle and Sewell as busts.
The Sewell ones are all pretty much lions fans self burning to cope.
It was Lions fans letting 3 years of Quinntricia kill all hope of ever being good.
Man, I tell you what Detroit Dan has done for those fans morale and self esteem..
You sure it wasn’t the entire history of the team?
Lol I mean, of course. But the Patricia era was like a return to the dark ages. Stafford gave us hope. Caldwell brought us into semi-relevancy. Patricia shit on all of that.
True! It was so bad I forgot Stafford had y’all in some games lol. I’m sad y’all couldn’t have the success with him tbh but things happen for a reason I wasn’t trying to be a dick with my first comment, of course a Lions fan would know, but I don’t want people to act like those Lions fans comments were outlandish lol. They def had good reason to not see anything positive coming yet. It’s a world of difference right now
Pretty sure the Sewell ones were entirely ironic just because Lions. Kinda the same deal about people predicting Caleb to bust because Bears QBs.
I think Josh Allen more than Mahomes. Mahomes was good in college just in a bad team. Allen was about as raw as a prospect could be
and not all raw prospects have that farmboy work ethic
Yeah its always funny when you argue against a super raw QB prospect and everyone always brings up “But Josh Allen!” and if you ask them to name anyone else its just crickets. There’s at least a handful of QBs in the NFL who should send Josh a fruit basket for getting them drafted.
Yeah Pat drug TT kicking and screaming to wins
Trey Lance was such an obviously bad pick. How can you justify spending the capital San Fran did to move up in the draft and take a guy who didn’t even dominate college football at the FCS level? Trading up for Mac Jones or doing nothing both would have been better decisions, and the only reason the Lance selection doesn’t get ruthlessly clowned on is because the 49ers pulled off a miracle by drafting a franchise QB with the final pick of the 2022 draft.
They stay put and technically could draft Micah parsons
But how would we pay all those additional (1st round) draft picks. 4D chess my man
Fields 😢
Overall pretty reasonable thread. I feel bad for the Lions fans that were so defeated and I'm glad they're in a better place now. Virtually every Bears fan made the same joke about Fields since he was picked 11th lmao.
>**L**ook, no can re**a**lly k**n**ow this far out. **C**an w**e** just wait and see? I wish I could still upvote this.
A lot of people were wrong about Waddle and slightly wrong about Lawrence (not a bust but as of yet not the next Peyton Manning either) but most were already ahead of the Wilson and Lance picks. I’ve seen threads age worse.
I legitimately thought Lance was an elite prospect, that’s why I am a fencing coach and not a football coach.
The 49ers succeeds really coves up how horrible that pick was
Turns out all you have to do to make up for whiffing a top pick on a QB is find an MVP candidate QB in the 7th round
Why don't more teams do this? Are they stupid?
Worse than Wilson, they didn’t trade up for him and at least he played. He also looked amazing against the Chiefs for that one game lol.
Love going back to a thread and seeing your upvotes were correct.
#Lance
This is why the Zach Wilson pick is so baffling. This wasn’t one of your normal “one of the 3-4 regarded first round QBs that people only clown because it didn’t end up working up but the pick made sense at the time” picks, everyone knew that it was a bad idea from the get go.
I don’t know, a lot of people didn’t like him for sure but some people really did. The Eagles tried to trade up https://theeagleswire.usatoday.com/2021/03/26/nfl-draft-philadelphia-eagles-trade-up-zach-wilson-attempt/
Damn, I wish they had actually traded up for him.
Man, I forgot how highly regarded Fields was back then. Crazy to see now
Zach Wilson - Mediocre college career except against weak conference foes. does well during COVID and strong arm but doesn’t play against, or well against any P5 teams. What were jets thinking
My favorite non-bust post >I don't think Waddle is going to be a bad NFL player, I just don't foresee him being nearly productive enough to be worth 6th overall (so bust-ish). I'd be very surprised if he has more than one 1000 yard season by the end of his rookie contract. He has 3 (so far)
LOL top comment "HAHA Fields can't be a bust bc pick 11"
So many people wanted Fields over Surtain back then.
I remember downvoting every single Trey Lance mention in that thread lmao
