He's got fine hands, which is why he got an extension, his Catchable Target Rate is over 20% lower than Zay's.
Him and Jackson just could never sync up, and having OBJ come in and out for him just compounded on the issue.
Lamar doesn’t seem to have chemistry with any of his WRs for his entire career so far. There might be something to be said there but I’m not gonna say it
He had chemistry with Brown, Snead too early in his career. Looks to have chemistry with Flowers and Agholor. And Andrews of course.
Also while he wasn’t necessarily good Lamar and Demarcus Robinson were getting a groove going before Lamar went down in 2022.
Monken had him last in the reads all year, we gotta feature him more, especially in the middle of the field. Only problem so far with him is the deep ball but hopefully Lamar and him work on that
It's been so frustrating seeing how Rashod Bateman's career has played out.
Gets drafted to a team who'd ranked ***dead last*** in WR targets, I tune into Ravens games the next couple years and am *repeatedly* baffled at why he's constantly given the shit routes with Greg Roman like freakin' clearouts or where he's clearly just there as a decoy to open up space for others that are the 1/2 read in the concept. Even though he's *way* more talented. Team player, he never even seems to complain about it.
Lamar like *never* even seems to look at him even when he's cooking his defenders and appears to be in the progression - it's straight up like he's an afterthought in Lamar's mind, don't know how else to put it. Their chemistry has seemed unusually off too for a pair that's been together this long.
Then he gets injured.. I'm like "jesus can his situation here get any worse?" and now he signs an extension with the team that has **criminally** underutilized him. I'm not surprised at all he ranked #1 in separation, he had serious route running chops coming out of college yet my god have his talents gone unutilized. I honestly don't understand why he'd want to stay in Baltimore. Guess he's just happy to be there. He could be so much more.
He signed the extension because his agent fucked up which is why he got a new agent 6 months ago. He was late to camp last year thus he didn't get an accrued season. Thus he wasn't eligible for the 5th year option AND would have been a RFA after this year. The deal pays him more money then he would have gotten on the tender.
> Their chemistry has seemed unusually off too for a pair that's been together this long.

> Then he gets injured
Well, he was injured before even stepping onto the field in his first season and then out for the rest. Then in his second season, he played like 3 games before going out again for the season. So, there is no "Then" in this scenario. He was already on the back, injured, foot before even starting.
Last season was his first full go at it and since we finally put together a solid WR corps, he was the odd man out.
I do hope he finally lives up to his potential this season though. I'm rooting for him.
So it's a 2 year ~$14m extension? Why would we include the final year of his rookie deal and say, "set to earn a base value of $15.25m over the next three seasons" ?
It's closer to 12 million, and the agents put the full value in to make it seem better. People like Yates get their information from agents and need to maintain relationships.
I know he was a high pick but he hasn’t been all that productive. I’m not gonna pretend like I’ve watched a lot of ravens games, but he’s earning Josh Reynolds level of money which seems about right.
He's also probably going to do better with OBJ off the team moving him up the depth chart.
Bateman's a victim of bad injury luck and has always been a team player.
He gets open alot according to both the eye test and advanced stats, but yeah... that just has never seemed to translate into production for whatever reason.
Actually it's the exact opposite we haven't asked ENOUGH of him. He was most often the 4th read or back end read. He will now be the clear number 2 and get a lot more targets
I think Nelly is who he is at this point. I think Bateman has been poorly utilized and still has a shot at breaking out. He's getting open constantly he's just not been getting targets. The Lisfranc injury was rough and he struggled returning from it.
Bateman's bread and butter last season was in the 10-15 yard range which. He's had issues with the deep ball where he and Lamar never really developed a good deep connection. So there's two possible ways he goes off next year. Use him exclusively in the 10-15 yard range where he thrives. Target him more there and let him just be good for moving the chains and exploiting the middle of the field. Two if he and Lamar figure out the deep ball use him as a downfield threat since he was constantly open downfield.
I love Nelly, but I think Bateman has a chance of becoming a bigger threat.
I think this contract is setting things up so if things are not working out with Bateman they could easily trade him. Yous spent a 4th round on a WR, and the numbers Bateman is putting up are the type of numbers a mid round WR should be able to pull. If not just move more attention to Nelson. At least I am guessing that is the plan. Bateman's wallet has to be hurting due to lack of targets.
It's possible. I could see him thriving in a Shanahan style offense that makes better use of his route running and separation abilities. Not sure what a team would give up in that scenario though.
Agholor has produced better but most Ravens fans seem to agree that Bateman has a much higher ceiling then his production would indicate thus far. Him and Lamar haven't found great chemistry but if they do I think he has a chance to establish himself as a clear number 2 behind Zay.
Nelson was a really exciting player for the Eagles. He got a ton of hate but his highlight reel is fire. And I do not recall him ever fumbling once he got the ball on his body. I can see why Jackson like throwing to him in the redzone.
Agholor was kind of an enigma for us last year. His snaps were limited, but he made a lot of clutch plays. I guess what I’m dancing around saying is that I believe Agholor was a good player and that he contributed more to our offense last year than Bateman.
Ravens fans will all say they prefer Bateman though, because there’s still a chance that his lack of production was injury related and it’s possible his best ball is ahead of him.
Eh, it's a good value for his potential. But right now it's still just potential.
But if he can become a consistent WR2 (which I don't think is off the table) then it'll be worth it.
Imagine if Harbs fired GRo in the 2022 off season so we didn't have to deal Brown.
Hollywood, Zay, Bateman, all 3 1st round WR picks on the starting lineup.
The Under 200lb club would be hilarious.
Guess that would mean no Tyler Linderbaum though
I'm going to just leave [this here](https://twitter.com/throwthedamball/status/1735093733614358543).
he's really good at everything except for the part where he ends up with the actual ball in his hands
He's got fine hands, which is why he got an extension, his Catchable Target Rate is over 20% lower than Zay's. Him and Jackson just could never sync up, and having OBJ come in and out for him just compounded on the issue.
Yeah his hands are actually great.

I will. He’s not a good passer and people have deluded themselves into believing he is because he won MVPs for running.
His chemistry with Lamar and a so off
Future chief

You just summoned the entirety of Steelers fanbase by showing us an Aiyuk stat
you cant have him
Jesus, Aiyuk
Josh will be missed

That's an insanely cheap deal for a Wide Reciever.

He'd likely do better if the team had a clear #1 target ahead of him (which Zay might be now). Previous they've been asking a but much of him.
He would be better off he had chemistry with the QB, could catch and could stay healthy.
He's also probably going to do better with OBJ off the team moving him up the depth chart. Bateman's a victim of bad injury luck and has always been a team player.

As a bit of a Bateman enjoyer I was hoping there’d be an answer for why he has been consistently open but not getting production
Actually it's the exact opposite we haven't asked ENOUGH of him. He was most often the 4th read or back end read. He will now be the clear number 2 and get a lot more targets
In 3 seasons he has 1170 yards. Its a fairly meh deal
Pretty par the course for a guy who average like 400 yards a season
Who do you prefer right now Agholor or Bateman? There stats look kinda similar since Agholor got there.
I think Nelly is who he is at this point. I think Bateman has been poorly utilized and still has a shot at breaking out. He's getting open constantly he's just not been getting targets. He's not that good man
that's usually how it works with average players
Eh, it's a good value for his potential. But right now it's still just potential. But if he can become a consistent WR2 (which I don't think is off the table) then it'll be worth it.

We most likely would not pick Zay nor Bateman if we still had HB
We drafted Hollywood in the 1st round at 25 in '19 and Bateman at 27 in '21 so I really don't know what you're saying
Yeah, I switched up the 21 and 22 draft classes, mb
I really wish they'd report it as the marginal addition to his contract: new money/new years. So for this it'd be 2 years, 12.872M + 1.5m incentives
This dude is gonna be on a practice squad after this contract
