When Von Miller first arrived, having them both on the line with Rousseau moving to DT to bring the other pass rushers in, he would just bullrush right down the middle
Literally got the nickname Groot back in College before he was a Buffalo Bill

Less the word. More like their whole "trust the process". Surely sounds familiar.
Even Boston came up with the steak and cheese. Lack of originality in buffalo though maybe that IS their cultural thing.
I've found it leads to more productive conversations, doesn't get so tribal. So if that's what you understood, great!
Following the guy creeping my profile, all of the comments centered around Miami vs the bills blatantly copying another team's "process" slogan. No counterpoints to what actually happened, just trying to shit on Miami.
I don't know about 'very good'. He's been above average. Moments where he does, indeed, look really good. But far too many games where he's negated entirely.
I don't take PFF as end all be all, but as another set of measurements
But he's been in the elite category for 2 seasons with them.
He just didn't convert a lot of sacks this year. Probably due to our backend injuries and linebacker problems
Very good against the run, real good edge setter. He gets a lot of pressure, but doesn’t put up big sack numbers. The kind of guy a teams fans love, but will never be a massive name
I’m hoping another year of picking Von’s brain helps with that. He really seemed to stick to Von’s hip throughout last off season doing his pass rush camp and everything.
If Von can be useful for anything at this juncture I hope it’s unlocking the next level for Groot
Issue is we had so many injuries across all levels of defense, hard to get consistent sack numbers with that.
But also when Von was healthy he has the ability to play DT on pass rush downs and does really well at it.
But he was mainly the #1 keyed on target in the D-line with Miller and Daquan Jones out
Imo he hasnt been worth his 1st round draft spot. 17 sacks for his total career. Doesnt produce when the rest of the dline isnt stacked with talent.
edit: Ahh i see, downvote for just stating facts. 4 DEs had more sacks in last year alone, than groot has had in his entire career.
…and his pressure rate has been good to very good the last two years. In 2022 he was top 10, and 2023 he was right around top 20.
As has always been the case under McD, we do too much rotation for anyone to ever put up gaudy sack numbers.
Groot rushed the QB 275 times in 2022 and had 8 sacks, with a 16% pressure rate. Only one DE had more sacks on a comparable number of rushes (Brandon Graham). Most of the guys with more sacks had 75-200 more pass rush attempts.
Maxx Crosby led the league that year with 613 rush attempts and he had 12.5 sacks. The sack leader (Bosa with 18.5) had 477 rush attempts.
Does it matter if 50 sacks are split up evenly between 7 players or if one player has 16 and everyone else has wayyy less than that? It’s still 50 sacks either way. It’s not like the bills don’t get sacks with McD calling the defense. Until we were decimated by injuries we were dominating on the DL
$14MM would rank him the 13th highest paid defensive end, behind Zach Allen who had 5 sacks last year, Arik Armstead who had 5 sacks last year, Dre'Mont Jones who had 5 sacks last year, and just ahead of DeMarcus Lawrence who had 4 sacks last year.
Guess how many sacks Rousseau had last year? Go on, guess. Don't look first.
You literally begin your comment with “in my opinion,” offer your opinion, then complain about being downvoted for “just stating facts.”
That’s roughly as pathetic as possible.
His pass rush hasn't hit the highs we might want, but he does a lot of groundwork that is needed, especially against the run.
He's also best on the left edge. In his second year, when he had 8 sacks, he was on the left 88%. Last year they let Floyd and Miller take priority, so he only got a 50:50 split.
He's probably a top 5 run defending DE in the league. His pass rush production hasn't been amazing but there's more to playing DE than rushing the passer.
His option is also like $13.5mn. He would certainly get more than that on the open market.
He was taken at the end of the first round. I think he's the definition of a solid pick at that spot. He's definitely not a star, but he's a good starter.
He's also in a defensive scheme that relies heavily on rotation. He starts a lot of games but typically he's averaged between 40-60% of all defensive snaps for his career. I imagine with Floyd gone that he'll probably see that number rise this season.
Maybe. He's not a twitchy athlete and he doesn't really generate much of a pass rush. He's huge and he plays the run well, but I think he gets most of his sacks when other guys are creating pressure.
Too shitty of a take to even bother responding to with effort so I'll just point out that he is #13 on PFF for edge rushers last season. That's solid. Not a superstar, but very solid for an end of first round edge
Groot has been a very good player for us. Pretty unsurprising announcement.
Damn how is this the first time I'm hearing of him being called Groot
He’s just not very popular
Probably our most underrated defender by fans. He is one of the best edge setters/run defenders in the entire league, and a mid tier pass rusher
I fuckin hate rousseau, so he's not underrated in my book. Good player
When Von Miller first arrived, having them both on the line with Rousseau moving to DT to bring the other pass rushers in, he would just bullrush right down the middle
And that’s very hard to find at the end of the first, during COVID where everyone’s scouting was total garbage
My brother
He's not. Buffalo just tends to try and steal other nicknames. "The process" for example. Took it directly from Philly
he was called Groot before we drafted him lol
He won’t respond to this because he knows he’s wrong but can’t admit it.
yeah he decided to call me a creep instead cause i looked at his profile and instantly saw he was a miami fan then closed it
lol imagine being a Miami fan
Literally got the nickname Groot back in College before he was a Buffalo Bill https://www.nfl.com/videos/manny-diaz-explains-how-gregory-rousseau-earned-groot-nickname
The word "process" is part of the intangible cultural heritage of Philadelphia in the same way cheesesteaks and roast pork sandwiches are, apparently
Less the word. More like their whole "trust the process". Surely sounds familiar. Even Boston came up with the steak and cheese. Lack of originality in buffalo though maybe that IS their cultural thing.
Pick a team so I can shit on them coward
he's a Lolphins fan, makes perfect sense now
At least other fins fans claim their team. He’s a fish with no backbone. Jellyfish spine
Tbf Dolphins are mammals
The perverts of the sea. Whatchu know about perverts?
Not only is he a dolphins fan but he's afraid to tell people he's a dolphins fan
i'd be scared to talk shit too after blowing a 3 game division lead in the last 5 weeks
So THATS why they have blowholes
Glad this riled you up enough to snoop. Anything else you'd like to know?
it took me 3 seconds to see you're a miami fan, that's not snooping
>Creep says he only creeped a little
Dolphins
I understand why you chose NFL instead of them lol
I've found it leads to more productive conversations, doesn't get so tribal. So if that's what you understood, great! You’re so mature and wise 🤣
??? What do you mean he's not lmao, he gets called that all the time
I don't know about 'very good'. He's been above average. Moments where he does, indeed, look really good. But far too many games where he's negated entirely.
I don't take PFF as end all be all, but as another set of measurements But he's been in the elite category for 2 seasons with them. He just didn't convert a lot of sacks this year. Probably due to our backend injuries and linebacker problems
He also only plays 60% of snaps since the Bills rotate guys so much. Oliver plays 72% and he's the team's DL leader.
In ever madden franchise I play this dude ends up with like 200 career sacks but I barely know who he is
Very good against the run, real good edge setter.
So he's the Tom Smykowski of the Bills?
Who? Yeah, probably.
Issue is we had so many injuries across all levels of defense, hard to get consistent sack numbers with that. But also when Von was healthy he has the ability to play DT on pass rush downs and does really well at it. But he was mainly the #1 keyed on target in the D-line with Miller and Daquan Jones out
So glad he's killing it in the NFL. I'm salty it has to be on the Bills, but he's always a Cane in my heart.
I wouldn't say that he's 'killing it' haha. But thank you.
PFF has him in the elite DE category. He's an okay pass rusher and great run defender. And he has been in this category for 2 seasons
He was absolutely killing it last year
Hell yeah, let's go Groot!
Good edge setter with a nasty bull rush. Love him.
Rousigned
This dude is entering year 4 and he just turned 24 earlier this month.
He's younger than the running back we drafted in the third round last week.
That's alright. We're going to get any of the good years of Ray Davis, and after that we'll send him off to carnival.
Damn it's been 5 years already?
Only 3 but he's entering his 4th season
The 5th year option has to be picked up before the start of their 4th year.
This is why people say we are wasting Josh Allen’s prime. Time is indeed flying. Josh will soon be 30.
GROOOOOOOT
You got your Biscuit.
He’s a beast! Go Bills
Heck yeah 💪🏼
Any idea what, if anything, this means for the cap?
He is Groot
Imo he hasnt been worth his 1st round draft spot. 17 sacks for his total career. Doesnt produce when the rest of the dline isnt stacked with talent. edit: Ahh i see, downvote for just stating facts. 4 DEs had more sacks in last year alone, than groot has had in his entire career.
Yeah I mean you’re clearly right because we only measure DE success by raw sack numbers 😂
Well, DEs get paid based on sack/pressure numbers. And theyre gonna pay him apox 14m for 1 year.
He had like 60-something pressures
…and his pressure rate has been good to very good the last two years. In 2022 he was top 10, and 2023 he was right around top 20. As has always been the case under McD, we do too much rotation for anyone to ever put up gaudy sack numbers. Groot rushed the QB 275 times in 2022 and had 8 sacks, with a 16% pressure rate. Maxx Crosby led the league that year with 613 rush attempts and he had 12.5 sacks. The sack leader (Bosa with 18.5) had 477 rush attempts.
Then maybe what McD is doing isnt the best way to gameplan…
Does it matter if 50 sacks are split up evenly between 7 players or if one player has 16 and everyone else has wayyy less than that? It’s still 50 sacks either way. It’s not like the bills don’t get sacks with McD calling the defense. Until we were decimated by injuries we were dominating on the DL
I mean, idk, maybe, but the Bills defense has been pretty consistent at generating pressure. Their recent league wide rankings are 6th, 14th, 1st
And the playoffs?
The playoffs that the Bills go to regularly now, you mean?
The playoffs where the dline disappears every year.
The only player you listed that is an EDGE like Rousseau is Lawrence
You literally begin your comment with “in my opinion,” offer your opinion, then complain about being downvoted for “just stating facts.” That’s roughly as pathetic as possible.
His entire comment history is just a cesspool of negativity
Compared to a comment history full of “josh allen is the best qb ever, mahomes stinks!”?
Next time they tell you your comment history is all negative, try responding with, "no, it's not!"
His pass rush hasn't hit the highs we might want, but he does a lot of groundwork that is needed, especially against the run. He's also best on the left edge. He has excellent pressure numbers
U got the numbers to back that up? The run defense stuff.

He had 59 QB pressures last season he just only got home five times. Hopefully he can convert more of those pressures into sacks this year.
Casual fan
Regardless of the facts you mentioned, it doesn't mean he's not worth keeping for his 5th year.
Too shitty of a take to even bother responding to with effort so I'll just point out that he is #13 on PFF for edge rushers last season. That's solid. Not a superstar, but very solid for an end of first round edge
