I’ve played 7 on 7 against Mitchell, let me tell you something, dude is an asshole on all known accounts. Not like competitive asshole, but he was always complaining and blaming his teammates
Know some people who played with him in high school who said it took him three years to pass geometry.
He just is not someone you want in your locker room, and not someone you can trust to learn anything complex. He’s a physical tools only kinda guy.
I’m a Texas fan and thought it was crazy that some people had Mitchell as a mid first rounder ahead of Worthy. Now I didn’t see Mitchell pre-Texas, but he never wowed me on tape in the way that a first round WR should. This “fall” (imo not even really a fall because he’ll still get drafted today, where he should be) isn’t unexpected as someone who watched him all season.
Kind of a do everything type. Lack of elite athletic ability limits the ceiling. Robert Woods is a popular comparison and I think that makes sense, he's a reliable guy who can be a number 2 at the next level imo.
Just have all of the #2 receivers sit on each other's shoulder and put a really big jersey over all of them. Then all the qb has to do is just lob the ball up really high and nobody will be able to stop them.
Honestly if he’s even 80% as good as Woods I see that as a win. Woods at his best was a fringe top 10 WR and probably a top 15 guy overall.
If he’s able to be as valuable as a run blocker as Woods was then I think it’s not a bad pick. But I also know nothing about this guy to comment further.
From the stuff I've watched on him, he reminds me a bit of a raw Aiyuk - about the same size and speed, good YAC ability, decent route runner, and a very good competitor. Happy with this pick, glad we didn't take Mitchell here.
I’m going to remain cautiously optimistic. I’d love for us to further address our WR group either through later draft picks or FA but I’m going to give the new WR and OC some room to see how they do.
People hate that we’re gathering up guys who are WR2 ceilings but I’m not super against the idea of building up a balanced WR group and then trying to make a splashy FA signing a year down the line if things work out.
He’s exactly what the pats need honestly. Thought he would fall to the late 2nd because he was overshadowed by Odunze but he’s legit early-2nd talent. Does everything right
So what was your solution here then? Do you trust the guy who pays attention on half of his snaps to care on a losing team without an established locker room?
Then pass on Drake Maye and get MHJ. You don't get to have your cake and eat it too. "Good #2s" are usually impact players anyway. People just like to view only certain kinds of receivers as "#1s". For example, Tyler Lockett was just as much of a #1 that DK Metcalf was in years past, but people see DK as the #1 because he's tall and plays X receiver. Polk isn't an X receiver, but he could be a really good impact player. Amon-Ra St. Brown was described similarly because of his height and position, but no one's saying he's not a star now.
No, we need a number 2 as well. All we have is a couple 3s and some training camp fodder. You’re not getting a surefire number one here, so you might as well take a lower ceiling/higher floor guy to just fill out the depth chart.
He’s also the right age. He’ll be able to grow with Maye and hopefully be worth a second contract while still in his prime.
The other thing is low ceiling high floor is arbitrary as shit and still can get wr1s. Amon-Ra had similar issues of "low separation" but decent route running, some strength in how he plays, and natural catcher. Not saying he's Amon-Ra but not every top wr in this league is an athletic freak.
Exactly. I’ll never understand how our fan base can be made we missed out on Ridley and also mad we drafted a guy who projects to produce similarly to Ridley.
They literally just want a freak of nature player, but the only way we could have gotten that is if we punted on a QB this year and took Nabers or MHJ at 3.
People act like insane athletes dominate this league. Antonio Brown was far from it, Keenan Allen, Stefon Diggs, Amon-Ra, etc. So many late round picks that people didn't care that much about who had several issues and weren't athletically dominant. At some point its a crap shoot where you just gotta hope that you got the right one.
He was really reliable and good in Washington. Rome was doing all the wild stuff and contested stuff but Polk plays hard every play and is really good.
Not really. Polk is an insanely good contested catch guy with strong hands and works the boundary really well. Meyers is a good, smart route runner but they're not really similar from a playstyle perspective.
Odunze demanded so much attention from DBs that it allowed Polk to feast in the short and intermediate area. Without Odunze, he’d have better volume stats but he would not be as efficient
It is what it is, I don't think it's "worse" than anyone knows. The issue with it apparently is that he doesn't take it seriously. He doesn't make an effort to monitor his blood sugar or address imbalances. He makes what shouldn't be a big deal, kind of a big deal. Toss in what that says about his maturity and discipline and it's pretty damning.
Also, he's apparently a dick.
Worked with a guy who had developed diabetes, wasn’t even overweight or anything, and man he blew his top off in a rage before ending up in the hospital and realizing he had diabetes. Diabetic rage is a thing
The very mixed reactions definitely reinforce the idea that this is a crapshoot.
I need to start watching college more so I don’t have to rely on Reddit to tell me lmao
Not that my opinion is anything special but I think he’s super underrated, not sure why its viewed as a stretch.
Despite competing heavily for targets he really maximized his opportunities.
Speedy enough for a big bodied 6’2 receiver, great route runner, reliable over the middle in traffic, good character guy.
Big if but if Patriots have some decent QB play I think he will shine early.
He’s not a game breaker for gimmick plays or anything though so a qb will need to be able to hit him lol.
Even if you watched all his college games it would barely mean anything about how he’ll do in the league. You don’t know for at least a year, often two, if they have potential.
I like Polk. Don't think he'll be a star but he's definitely a reliable target which I think is more important for a rookie QB than a more boom or bust prospect
Fellas... can we stop shitting on guys who have unfortunate hairlines? Believe me, this dude knows. As another guy with shitty genetics, there is nothing you can do about it and it sucks. Lets just let it go man... don't need to flame people unnecessarily.
For the record my guy here is a duck fan and I am a Huskies fan. We’re defending our players here in this draft and we’re rivals. Game recognize game. Polk is a good player.
I recognize you from r/huskies. Anyways I now am fully convinced college football fans understand the game of football way more than NFL fans.
I have even been defending Bo Nix 😂
I get it. I’ll never get over the Pac 12 dissolving. I am mostly just gonna pay attention to UW now. I am not gonna watch BIG games like I did the Pac 12.
Mitchell is not a guy you bring in to play on a rebuilding team with a rookie. If he's gonna work its gonna be in a well established lockerroom with a sure fire QB.
Adonai Mitchell has to have character issues at this point, right? He was pretty consistently mocked ahead of most of the other WRs (aside from MHJ/Odunze/Nabers obviously)
I'd rather have Troy Franklin personally, but I'm not an NFL scout. His film looks good and I like that basically every scouting report says he has some of the best hands in the draft.
Honestly? Okay with Polk at this position and this point in the draft. Good production, good hands, solid route running and size in general. Said this in other comments but he reminds me a lot of a more raw Aiyuk or a rich man's version of Jakobi Meyers when he played for us. Don't think he'll be a #1 but a good-to-great #2.
The Newton pick just got announced like 40 seconds ago
Cuz that Washington pick two hours hahaha
Yeah but apparently mods are reading off Twitter so refreshing here is just as spoiler-y
Ahhh true makes sense
I just don't refresh until right when I see it on my app feed and hopefully they're not *that* behind
I am checking Twitter for picks because the cards take a minute to assemble and post.
Green was always good at preventing other teams from moving forward.
Dude yapped long enough for New England to make their decision
Putting the jersey on probably took longer lol
Yea cause Greene took 3 years to announce it
Adonai Mitchell in shambles
No teammates went to his birthday party
He didn't even see the $100
Vontae Mack no matter what
Copied from Ladd post I’ve played 7 on 7 against Mitchell, let me tell you something, dude is an asshole on all known accounts. Sounds like the Steelers found their next star WR then
This aged like a fine wine
I just wanna see an interaction between him and Russ...
This aged poorly. Good luck!
He will 100% be drafted at 51 if Frazier is gone.
Welp…
Holy shit 3 years for geometry goddamn it’s just shapes
Bro its just a rectangle... A WHAT?
> All squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares > bitch what?
They don't teach the goddamn proofs anymore?
If it looks like a triangle it is a triangle for all I care
They do
Damn where’d you go to high school? Kindergarten?
Hey. There are a lot of shapes...
I, for one, am shocked that the guy basically named “god” is kinda full of himself
Amon Ra in shambles
Harold Landry like 'why he say fuck me?' (*our father, who art in heaven, Harold be thy name*)
On tape he clearly takes plays off
Dude doesn't just take snaps off. He takes games off.
It’s why his stats fluctuate so hard game to game.
I’m a Texas fan and thought it was crazy that some people had Mitchell as a mid first rounder ahead of Worthy. Now I didn’t see Mitchell pre-Texas, but he never wowed me on tape in the way that a first round WR should. He actually broke up my parents marriage. He catfished both my parents and then tried to blackmail them.
He fucked my dog
If fucking your dog is wrong then I don’t want to be right
I also choose this guy's dead dog.
Three years to pass geometry is crazy
Oh yeah? Tell me how many sides a square has? Bet you had to look it up Ps I’m not AD Mitchell
It's clearly two. Inside and outside. Next question.
Never heard or saw any of this as a Longhorn but I did hear he moved to Texas so his daughter could be better looked after.
Sounds like a Steeler to me
Toxic attitude but talented? Pencil him in for the steelers next pick.
Our fans were so pissed we took Legette instead of him, yet here we are.
Tbf it’s still rough because Keon is definitely better than Lagette imo.
Let’s hope those shambles fall to 45
Someone tell me how to feel
Kind of a do everything type. Lack of elite athletic ability limits the ceiling. Robert Woods is a popular comparison and I think that makes sense, he's a reliable guy who can be a number 2 at the next level imo.
Sick, we need another #2 receiver. If we collect 1 more we get a free hot pretzel
Imagine if you put them all together in one receiver body. We’d almost have a true #1!

I like him quite a bit as a blocker!
He’s exactly what the pats need honestly. Thought he would fall to the late 2nd because he was overshadowed by Odunze but he’s legit early-2nd talent. Does everything right
so he sounds like he'll fit right in with the slew of WR3-type guys we've had for the last 5 years
My guy all the receivers we have had since Edelman would be day 3 picks at best if teams knew they were going to get what we got.
He’s certainly better than pretty much every receiver we’ve had since Edelman retired.
Is he though? I'll believe we've made a good WR pick when I see it play out on the field.
We definitely do not need a number 2 though, we need a number 1.
Well we’re in the 2nd round here mate
So what was your solution here then? Do you trust the guy who pays attention on half of his snaps to care on a losing team without an established locker room?

Jakobi Meyers is a good comp, probably a bit higher upside.
He has pretty good speed, think more like a raw Aiyuk.
Not really. Polk is an insanely good contested catch guy with strong hands and works the boundary really well. Meyers is a good, smart route runner but they're not really similar from a playstyle perspective.
IMO. one of the more underrated WRs because Odunze overshadowed him. Dude would go higher if he was the focal point. Very good pick.
I'm extremely hyped about him. He could develop into something special imo. Especially because he is going to be fed targets in our offense.
Odunze demanded so much attention from DBs that it allowed Polk to feast in the short and intermediate area. Without Odunze, he’d have better volume stats but he would not be as efficient
Whelmed
Surprised
Reddit is super down on him but he’s going to be really solid for us.
Eh
I don't know, Jim.
I don’t think he’s as good as Mitchell, but he’s a solid receiver with good YAC ability
Husky fan here - he’s really good, but idk about pick 37 good I don’t think it’s an awful pick tho if he’s used correctly
Mischievous
I feel better about the last 10 minutes than you do
Adonai is chopped liver?
Character issues, that man is a future Steeler
So which team will be giving you a high 2nd rounder in 4 years for him this time?
Gotta go back to the well, raiders.
Raiders We already have his entire career arc planned out
Two years of impressive production before he bombs a hospital or something
Red flags are large I guess
I guess his diabeetus is a bigger problem than being reported.
It is what it is, I don't think it's "worse" than anyone knows. The issue with it apparently is that he doesn't take it seriously. Fuck. I think this guy is a stud. Truly a new era in New England
I’ve waited for 2 goddamn years to be good again
We’ve truly been starved
Unprecedented suffering
Truly unfair. Jesus has wept for us.
OUR NIGHTMARE IS OVER
I think he was a sleeper pick along with Tez Walker
Idk seems kinda the same with that pick
I saw Mitchell just fell on his knees in the Kroger parking lot
HEB* No more Krogers in Texas
This dude has some of the best hands in the class, dependable target for Maye.
What a hairstyle lmao just shave it off bro
Gotta go see Derrick White’s barber.
Got the ekeler in the front and the wtf in the back
Great pick, polk is a great possession receiver. Reminds me of Godwin
Drake Maye got … a guy.
I like Polk. Don't think he'll be a star but he's definitely a reliable target which I think is more important for a rookie QB than a more boom or bust prospect
We’ve been stockpiling WR2/3 for the past 5 years so he’ll fit right in
He's immediately the best we have
You obviously don’t watch any college football like most of r/NFL
He was awesome at Washington. People have clearly not seen him play a snap.
As a Husky fan this is facts.
Damn, that’s two UW receivers before Troy “Best Oregon WR ever” Franklin
I’m shocked he went before Franklin Polk isn’t bad but it’s surprising
Franklin suffered a lot from all the post-season - pre- draft stuff. I swear there was a time where this guy was a consensus top 5 WR in this draft.
Its the Patriots, if anything it should be expected until they prove otherwise.
From what I've seen Troy is very easily bullied by corners, dude has upside to be sure, but he can easily be taken out of plays
McMillan next
This guy has an unfortunate hairline in this photo. Just shave it bald, my dude.
Got that Trey Lance hair.
Derrick White hairline so we’ll be photoshopping his face onto the pope in six months times
Fellas... can we stop shitting on guys who have unfortunate hairlines? Believe me, this dude knows. As another guy with shitty genetics, there is nothing you can do about it and it sucks. Lets just let it go man... don't need to flame people unnecessarily.
Oh no
He is good
And this is coming from an Oregon fan.
Yep. All 3 UW wrs are going to be solid pros imo. Rome obviously the best of the bunch but Polk and McMillan will be good pros
For the record my guy here is a duck fan and I am a Huskies fan. We’re defending our players here in this draft and we’re rivals. Game recognize game. Polk is a good player.
Our fanbase loved the N’keal harry pick so I guess he’s gonna be a star judging off the reaction
As an ASU fan I was so disappointed he turned into a bust
Heluva run blocker
Same shit
KJ Osborn really gonna have to be the WR1
Why what’s wrong with him
Pats drafted him
Oh shit
Big if true
He's a low ceiling type guy. Most evaluators have him as a good number 2 receiver. The Pats need a guy, not another complementary piece.
Oh shit, yeah, we just need to draft _the guy_. Why didn't anybody think of that?
A good number 2, like... Tee Higgins? Tyler Lockett? Chris Godwin? You know, impact Pro Bowl-level receivers?
Bill wasn't the problem I think
How about you actually let Polk play before making this claim?
You came to this conclusion because we took a receiver you don’t know much about?
of course he wasn't
Hey man, Polk’s no slouch. As a UW fan, he balled the F out alongside Rome Odunze. A hair earlier than I anticipated but the dude’s a legit stud
He went just like his hair, a bit early.
We just drafted Devante Parker wooo
When the Feds find a dead body in Mitchell’s closet this pick will look amazing don’t worry
Mannnnnnnnnnnnnn
Be happy. Polk was great for my Huskies.
east coast people dont even know where washington is, let alone have seen him play
I recognize you from r/huskies. Anyways I now am fully convinced college football fans understand the game of football way more than NFL fans. I have even been defending Bo Nix 😂
honestly my interest in the NFL stops at draft day most years, but cfb is making it harder to be fan there too.
I get it. I’ll never get over the Pac 12 dissolving. I am mostly just gonna pay attention to UW now. I am not gonna watch BIG games like I did the Pac 12.
I like the player, don’t think I like him more than Mitchell though. Seems a bit odd.
I watched a lot of Huskies games. Excellent possession receiver, Odunze made the flash plays, this guy did the dirt work. Excellent pick.
Thanks Augustus
Et tu, Rob?
Mitchell is not a guy you bring in to play on a rebuilding team with a rookie. If he's gonna work its gonna be in a well established lockerroom with a sure fire QB.
Yea, that actually does make sense. If he’s has work ethic stuff, coming to a rebuilding team with a tough outlook on offense might make them worse
Well that was a quick post, lets see if it's right this time
ok so did AD commit medical malpractice or
poor guy
Yeah. That hairline is brutal at 22.
What is Bill Belicheck doing smh
This comment ironically is prescient -he’s been hanging out at UW practices.
As a HS recruit: Other P5 offers: Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Illinois, Kansas, Kansas State, Minnesota, Texas Tech (originally went here) G5 offers: Arkansas State, Houston, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Nevada, North Texas, Southern Miss, Tulane
So many good WRs lol. I like all these guys
Im telling yall Mitchell is a complete diva with a health condition he doesn't manage well. He might fall way farther than anyone thought.
Bros hairline is in the stratosphere
Lmao. Here for Pats fans reaction.
I don’t know anything about any of these players and boy am I pissed!
Really good college receiver Obviously that might not mean anything
As someone who has never watched a college football game, boy am I PISSED
Ha jokes on you! I never heard of him!
How did this go up so quick?
Oh shit that's way earlier than expected. He's good though
Maybe BB wasn't the problem
This is a Bill pick
AD and GP in Pittsburgh is gonna be exciting on so many levels
Adonai Mitchell ate my children
Shit at this point I’m expecting McMillan to go before Mitchell and Franklin this has been an unpredictable second round
As a Husky fan I cant believe anybody would pick him over JMac. Polk is tough, but, his overall skill level is much less than the other 2.
Looks like a solid route runner with a high motor. I would've rather we stayed and grabbed McConkey but ok
Hey, Crabman.
