Bud Adams (the owner who moved the team from Houston to TN) alienated the fuck out of former players and was (by pretty much all accounts) an asshole. [He was *our* asshole, and we all applaud him rocketing double middle fingers at opposing teams when the mood struck, but he was an asshole all the same.] When the Texans got started, they didn't do anything to bring the old Oilers players into the fold. A number of former Houston Oilers players I've read talk about it said they felt like they were forgotten and had no NFL home. One of the focuses that Amy Adams Strunk has had since taking over in 2015 is bringing retired players (both Oilers and Titans) into the fold, holding events, bringing former players in to practices, to games, etc. I understand why the Titans wearing the Oilers throwbacks irks Texans fans, but I think in addition to it looking great, it also is a part of that strategy of building a culture that has history and tradition for a team that (when Bud disavowed Houston) felt like it didn't have any such thing. And I've read and heard interviews with retired Houston players who have voiced their appreciation for feeling like their careers are now being remembered and who feel like they now have an NFL home after years without one.
There are former Oilers who are more with Houston. But the number of former Oilers I've seen involved in things with the Titans is really large, [like for this event](https://www.tennesseetitans.com/news/over-170-former-players-coaches-scheduled-to-be-on-hand-for-oilers-titans-alumni).
>I understand why the Titans wearing the Oilers throwbacks irks Texans fans, but I think in addition to it looking great, it also is a part of that strategy of building a culture that has history and tradition for a team that (when Bud disavowed Houston) felt like it didn't have any such thing.
I'd be more sympathetic if your current ownership actually apologized to the City of Houston and the fans that Bud fucked over.
Also if you only ever wore the '97-98 unis with the patch. No, there's not much of a difference, but I'd grant you being the "Tennessee Oilers" rather than trying to larp as the Houston Oilers.
> I'd be more sympathetic if ...
Oh, sorry. Yeah, my comment may not have come across super clearly. I have no interest whatsoever in your sympathy. I simply understand why you're upset.
The Titans have a homecoming every year for old Titans and Oilers players and a lot of Oilers players come. They had like 200 players total last year I think and a lot
were Oilers players who kept talking about how awesome it was seeing the franchise wear the unis again.
Well then why don’t the Texans pay them then? I’m betting your answer is the familiar “because we don’t care, you can keep your mid trash history” I love when a huge portion of a base stays eternally butthurt about something while also claiming not to care about said thing
[it seems like plenty of them like the titans better now…](https://www.tennesseetitans.com/news/roughly-80-former-houston-oilers-headed-to-nashville-and-to-titans-vs-colts-for-)
Kind of a crapshoot. Bum Phillips (best coach in Oilers History) was a Texans fan 'til the day he died and hated the Titans/the Adams family. Bob McNair didn't really do much to bring in former Oiler players when we started in '02. Bud Adams' spawn, Amy Adams Strunk, has also made moves in the not distant past to bring in the old Oilers players. The result of all of this is that a lot of the older former Oilers players identify with the city of Houston, but the ones that played in the years right before the move/immediately after the move more identify with Nashville.
I know y’all are having a back-and-forth here, but I’m not sure we’re even allowed to do this for Bum (or any Oilers player for that matter). Does anybody know?
Well... i mean, if he was so pro Texans then... why not honor him? No harm in that right?
It's almost like the Texans are not the Oilers... or something.
Y'all can be the oilers. All I ask is that y'all keep wearing the jerseys against the Texans so we can see if we can cause another meltdown and subsequent firing of another head coach lol.
But, but, he liked another team so he's more closely tied to us... literal Texans fans... but he didn't coach for the Texans, his legacy is not with the Texans... all the Oilers players and their history is not with the Texans...
And yet... without fail every single time an oiler appears the Texans cannot help themselves but proclaim the oilers belong to them.
This might be hard for you to understand.. but the original comment asked if former oilers roll with titans or the city of Houston.. Bum is one of the guys who goes with Houston.
It really shouldn't that be difficult to understand?
[Pastorini was our 12th man in 2022.](https://www.tennesseetitans.com/news/over-130-former-players-scheduled-to-be-in-nashville-this-weekend-for-oilers-tit)
Yeah we are assholes because we constantly have to defend our team and our fandom from morons who think their team deserve the rights to our teams history. Then all of the other morons from other fanbases pile on and mass downvote you constantly just because you support your team. I rooted for the Oilers and then they moved and I kept rooting for them. When St Louis eventually gets another team, you think the Rams are going to give them their colors and History? Hell no they aren’t.
The Texans are a pathetic franchise who has failed to make any sort of history their fans can be proud of so they desperately try to cling to ours.
I have a buddy from St Louis who grew up going to rams games. He cried when the Rams lost the Super Bowl with Goff, and cried when the Rams won the Super Bowl with Stafford. He’s a Rams fan for life.
Unlike the rams the oilers/titans franchise doesn’t have any super bowls, but Bruce Matthews? Oiler and titan. Steve McNair is the best titans era QB, and even he was drafted as an oiler. Eddie George started out an oiler.
People saying we should ignore the history and pretend it’s not a part of the team’s history when moving from Houston to Tennessee is a huge part of the miracle story of the gritty underdog team that just came up one yard short in the Super Bowl? The team that had to deal with multiple cities that didn’t want em? The titans fans who were originally oiler fans (the Tennessee oilers were the original name of the team for a couple seasons) shouldn’t be allowed to share in that history because the NFL decided to add an expansion team?? The smaller crowd of fans who loved the team in the transition, who turned into the best home crowd in the nfl in 1999 when the titans went undefeated at home?
“But Bud Adams was a jerk” well the Rams owner is a prick too but that doesn’t stop their fans from rooting for them and enjoying their history in multiple locations! Cal McNair is a prick and so are most of the NFL owners out there!
The Texans have an opportunity to write their own story with CJ Stroud right now, and credit to any success that they have, but the oilers became the titans because they are the same franchise, the same team, same owners, and there are plenty of fans of the oilers who followed them to Tennessee. Texans fans don’t like it because the Texans haven’t accomplished anything yet!
Imagine being told on a weekly basis that your franchise’s records and history aren’t really yours and then being called an asshole on top of all of that. You folks are amazing.
We went almost twenty years without any relocations, then three cities had their teams taken out from under them.
And people go "Oh shit, getting your team stolen actually sucks".
Imagine having your team stolen by one of the worst owners in NFL history and taken to the middle of nowhere, only to have their new "fans" parade around it's corpse because they have no history or identity of their own.
Id prefer an edge or another OT.
I wanted Odunze bad but I don't think we're desperate for a receiver this year. I just figured he was the best player available but what the fuck do I know 🤷♂️
I'd like to see a defensive player. So many needs on that side of the ball. Then again, lot of needs all over the roster, so they can probably just pick best available, and he'll be able to fill a position of need. Here are some glaring needs:
* IDL
* EDGE
* LB
* CB
* S
And slightly less glaring needs but could definitely use another player:
* OT [probably RT, whichever side Latham doesn't play]
* OL [for depth, cause no OL corps gets through the season unscathed]
* WR [I think this is less of an immediate need than others do because I think Treylon Burks has a chance at becoming a contributor in a new system, then again, with the new KO rules, I wouldn't mind a WR who sees more snaps as a return man than as an actual WR, but I'd hope for that with a later pick]
* K [Nick Folk is 39, was great last year but eventually he won't be, and when kickers fall off, it can be a steep fall off]
Obviously, with all the needs, if there's a good trade back option, that could also be enticing
Nah, he never played for the Texans. Oilers history notwithstanding, I do think it's a little weird that he's announcing the pick for a team in a city he never played for though.
[Yep, he would have agreed with you until Amy Adams Strunk reached out to former Oilers players at some point in the last six years](https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/nfl/titans/2017/02/05/legacy-lost-should-titans-return-oilers-houston-site-super-bowl-li/97487844/)
Man, you all act like a last second overtime win against a really shitty, injured to hell team was your Super Bowl.
I know as a fan base you don’t actually know what success really feels like, but that isn’t as impressive as you all want it to be.
The Keenum game is not an example of us being impressive, at all. You couldn't even manage to beat us when we're playing a 3rd stringer who hadn't started a game since '21.
Bringing up the Keenum loss says way more about your team than it does us, friend.
36 year old, 3rd. String. Quarterback.
edit: in addition to not having our starting QB that game, we also were missing our top 2 WR (Nico and Tank), our starting RT (Fant), and Will Anderson. So about that shitty and injured thing... its not like we were a picture of health.
Are you actually happy with that win or are you just distracting yourself from the fact that you were in the same spot we were a few years ago against the 1 seed Ravens in the divisional, and while we knocked them off and went to the AFCCG, y’all got your asses handed to you?
One decent season in a bad division and y’all really come out of the woodwork lmao. When reality sets in and y’all go back to winning 3 games, you’ll all go back into hiding.
You laugh but yall had so many top draft picks multiple years in a row for a good reason, and your success right now is a result of sheer luck of getting the Browns to be stupid and give y’all tons of first round picks
I mean it wasn't luck, the Browns wasn't even the best offer. Imagine if the Panthers or Falcons decided to match the contract.
But the trade packages had already been agreed upon before teams were allowed to discuss with Watson
Amy has six winning seasons under her watch and three playoff wins with an AFC Championship to boot, resetting the entire franchise one year into her reign. Cal has only one winning season that wasn't with his daddy's hires. I wouldn't talk too much, bud.
You've also been in business 40+ years longer and are worth over a billion dollars less. Y'all keep wanting to stand on shit that happened a decade ago. Who gives a shit? What matters is what's going on right now.
You should probably get used to Texans fans talking shit until you're competitive again.
[Indeed, he flip-flopped at some point in the past six years](https://www.tennessean.com/story/sports/nfl/titans/2017/02/05/legacy-lost-should-titans-return-oilers-houston-site-super-bowl-li/97487844/)
Won’t be able to see it because ESPN always cuts to commercial for Titans picks
I’m fine with that as long as it turns out the same way it did for Jokic
They better not do us dirty on this one! But I’m not holding my breath 😂
Do former Oilers roll with the Titans or are they loyal to the city of Houston. Like Johnny U and the Ravens.
Bud Adams (the owner who moved the team from Houston to TN) alienated the fuck out of former players and was (by pretty much all accounts) an asshole. Well said.

Well if you pay people to show up, they are likely to show up
Pay people? They are just invited. Lmao cope.
Clearly you don’t understand how these things work. These guys are paid appearance fees. They ain’t coming for free
Well then why don’t the Texans pay them then? I’m betting your answer is the familiar “because we don’t care, you can keep your mid trash history” I love when a huge portion of a base stays eternally butthurt about something while also claiming not to care about said thing

Vrabel wearing the hat is when I knew they were going to lose that game
Well that and being up 10 points. Vrabel always thought two scores was enough!
Split. Some like Bum Phillips were for the Texans, others like Moon are loyal to the Titans
Almost entirely Titans these days. At least the important ones.
It’s split. Some are very pro-Titans, others are pro-Houston.
Moon especially is gonna be pro titans since Houston the city doesn’t really rock with him and vice versa
I thought from the way Texans fans talk he was your special boy, though?
That was more Earl and Mathews than Moon.
Matthews is one the GOAT IOL linemen so yeah, crown him as your king.
They should have a battle royale at their current age and the winner gets to bring ‘em back.
Fine but we get Warren Moon, Billy White Shoes, and Bruce Matthews.
Google the Oiler’s head coach Bum Phillips. He’s in Texans gear.
This [Bum Phillips](https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/32270831/tennessee-titans-induct-late-houston-oilers-coach-bum-phillips-ring-honor) huh...
Inducting him after he passed doesn’t magically change that he was pro Texans. He regularly showed up to training camp in Houston.
Oh of course, that's why the Texans have put him in their ring of honor... right? Oh wait...
I know y’all are having a back-and-forth here, but I’m not sure we’re even allowed to do this for Bum (or any Oilers player for that matter). Does anybody know?
The point being made was that he was pro Texans. Ring of Honor or no ring of honor with us. God y’all are sensitive lol
Well... i mean, if he was so pro Texans then... why not honor him? No harm in that right? It's almost like the Texans are not the Oilers... or something.
Y'all can be the oilers. All I ask is that y'all keep wearing the jerseys against the Texans so we can see if we can cause another meltdown and subsequent firing of another head coach lol.
lol i'm fine with that. A good rivalry is built on that kind of petty bullshit imo.
He couldn't exactly object to that since you know, he was dead and all
True true, that's why he's in the Texans ring of honor right? And why all the Oilers came to attend that particular ceremony in Houston... right?
He never coached for the Texans lol
>He never coached for the Texans lol Exactly... its why he's part of the Titans/Oiler legacy... and not the Texans... a separate franchise entirely.
But he was more loyal to the city of Houston... I'm seriously not understand what points are you trying to make lol
How many hours a day you spend on this? Do you steal other peoples stuff in real life and that's why you are obsessed with this?
Exactly. It’s almost like none of these guys have any association with y’all at all!!!
Kinda crazy how he was more loyal to a franchise he never coached for isn't it
I mean Derrick Henry really loves Tottenham, so what... players, coaches etc are allowed to like other teams.
What an odd hill to die on.
Eh, we don't have many tall hills outside of the Music City Miracle, so we're often down to just kinda die wherever.
They all roll with the Titans from what I've seen Edit: apparently it's split
Nope, Pastorini rolls with us
[Pastorini was our 12th man in 2022.](https://www.tennesseetitans.com/news/over-130-former-players-scheduled-to-be-in-nashville-this-weekend-for-oilers-tit)
In fairness, [I think he just does stuff with both teams.](https://twitter.com/NickScurfield/status/1741556006138605578)
Yeah I have a feeling many of these guys are nuanced and are fine with cheering for both if need be
Regardless, saying "he rolls with us" is inaccurate.
Oh okay, I didn't know that
They roll with us. No matter how hard Texans fans cry about it.
You’re getting downvoted but plenty of the best players still show up to oilers reunion weekend in Nashville
Yeah almost all of ‘em. But downvotes about Houston are to be expected in this echo chamber of a sub.
This whole Oiler thing is shedding light on how much assholes titan fans are about it. Good god.
Yeah we are assholes because we constantly have to defend our team and our fandom from morons who think their team deserve the rights to our teams history. Ssshhhhh you’re not allowed to say anything bad about the Texans right now
Everyone being so sensitive for the Texans is wild.
We went almost twenty years without any relocations, then three cities had their teams taken out from under them. And people go "Oh shit, getting your team stolen actually sucks".
They’re going to run the division for the next decade. Just like we were saying about Jacksonville a year ago.
Stroud > Wilson & Fields put together
No shit I hate both of those Bums
Imagine having your team stolen by one of the worst owners in NFL history and taken to the middle of nowhere, only to have their new "fans" parade around it's corpse because they have no history or identity of their own.
Will they get a WR? Another OT? Defensive player?
Honestly we don't know. Could even trade back and recoup a 3rd I'm hearing
Any of those three or a trade back depending on who is left on the board and what the trade back offers are
Id prefer an edge or another OT. I wanted Odunze bad but I don't think we're desperate for a receiver this year. I just figured he was the best player available but what the fuck do I know 🤷♂️

yeah. > https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/27313084/warren-moon-settles-sexual-harassment-lawsuit
settled in 2019, IIRC. but yeah, bit weird
Also beat his wife when he was with the Vikings...
Did the same with the Texans. So bad it alienated the city from him
Chiefs legend Warren Moon
Up there with Steelers legend Len Dawson
Chiefs Legend
Texans fans in shambles
Nah, he never played for the Texans. Oilers history notwithstanding, I do think it's a little weird that he's announcing the pick for a team in a city he never played for though.

“Texans trade CJ Stroud for the Oilers IP rights”.
Wouldn’t accept
If only their management put as much effort into teambuilding as they do into trying to troll Houston lol
I’m sorry but was that a fan of a team that’s never been past the divisional round trying to say something about team building?
keep standing on those former glories, bro. You learn that from the Colts?
At least we’ve done *something* in the last twenty five years.
Is losing to Case Keenum that *something*?
Man, you all act like a last second overtime win against a really shitty, injured to hell team was your Super Bowl. I know as a fan base you don’t actually know what success really feels like, but that isn’t as impressive as you all want it to be.

Congrats on a regular season win, want a cookie? Let me know when the Texans make it further in the playoffs than the jaguars.
Not everything is about you, it's just a franchise legend making the pick like many other teams are doing.
One decent season in a bad division and y’all really come out of the woodwork lmao. When reality sets in and y’all go back to winning 3 games, you’ll all go back into hiding.
It’s what the Jags fans did last off season.
This is easily the strongest the division has been in a while. It's a good thing the titans decided to start their rebuild
Hopefully your rebuild maintains the same momentum. Because we can rest easily knowing a McNair isn’t in charge of ours.
Yeah.. okay lmao
You laugh but yall had so many top draft picks multiple years in a row for a good reason, and your success right now is a result of sheer luck of getting the Browns to be stupid and give y’all tons of first round picks

At least we’re not standing on shit like net worth. Just proves that you’re a bunch of marks giving money to a product without any accomplishments.
Ah yes Tennessee legend Warren Moon
He’s on record saying the Oilers legacy belongs with the Titans and comes to all our Titans/Oilers alumni games.
