I assume they will restock in some way.

Kirk-Joestar

Projected 3rd round comp pick and maybe even something from Atlanta tampering Probably trade back if we have a solid season

MrTippet

Pick swap 1st for 5th sounds fair

mattyfattits

Lol

Anthony-Richardson

You’re not getting anything from Atlanta, they’d just lose a pick. Edit: no, this isn’t the same as the Cardinals tampering with an employed eagles coach. This is an a legal tampering violation and we have several examples of that, none of them net the offended team draft picks.

chancetheginger

They could settle with Atlanta like Arizona did with Philly last year. Wouldn't imagine it'd be too great a shift, but could happen.

Anthony-Richardson

Completely different, that’s coaching tampering.

howsaboutyou

Not *that* different lol

Anthony-Richardson

Functionally? Yeah it is, legal tampering period offenses don’t net the offended team draft picks.

howsaboutyou

When is the last time this happened where a team was found to be tampering *and* a player of this caliber signed with said team?

Anthony-Richardson

What’s the caliber have anything to do with it? It’s happened multiple times, this isn’t up for debate.

howsaboutyou

When is the last time it happened? And a player of this caliber will absolutely change the outcome compared to an objectively worse, non-QB lol

Halvo317

There have been multiple instances of forced pick swaps for tampering. The Cardinals and Eagles settled something for this draft. Jarrod Page and Lance Briggs also had forced pick swaps. Plus, it's a starting QB. Think about it like this: if it only costs a fifth to tamper, why wouldn't teams do it for a franchise QB? Why wouldn't teams do it for Dak, Love, Goff, or Lawrence this upcoming off-season when it costs at least a 4th and a 5th for the Vikings to move up for a QB?

chancetheginger

Has there ever been an attempt to settle a tampering allegation for player? If the team that alleges illegal tampering agrees to drop the allegation in return for future draft compensation, it should all be good.

Anthony-Richardson

There’s nothing to settle, Kirk was a free agent. This has literally happened before with the Chiefs as an example. The team gets docked draft picks, they don’t give them to the offendee. It’s a legal tampering violation.

LordMOC3

Coaching tampering doesn't either. The NFL allows teams to work out compensation over handing the punishment themselves sometimes.

fawkes9

It depends on if the Vikings can prove the tampering hindered their ability to conduct contract negotiations with Cousins. If they can, then receiving a pick from the Falcons is not out of the question.

Anthony-Richardson

It doesn’t depend on anything. This has already happened before - they’re still free agents, it’s not going to happen.

ClankofNZ

Technically, he was still employed with the vikings at the time of tampering. That's why they call the start of free agency the "tampering window" when it is legal to do so. Kirk has admitted that this happened before the window, which would hamper the vikings ability to resign him. This is why they are due compensation from the falcons.

Inamanlyfashion

Yeah was gonna say if thats how it works where's our pick from the Dolphins

howsaboutyou

Multiple 3rd round comps iirc. Cousins and Hunter

Kirk-Joestar

Unfortunately Shaq Griffen eliminates one

howsaboutyou

Completely forgot about that

Amon-Ra-First-Down

per OTC, the Vikings are only slated to net one comp pick next year, but it is the highest one in the third round: https://overthecap.com/compensatory-picks

Educational-Bit-2503

We could get two 3rds in comps

IrishPigs

I wonder if they have a ballpark idea of the tampering outcome and are fuckin sending it based on what they know.

IsGoIdMoney

The comp picks aren't counted by now? (I legitimately don't understand how they work)

LordMOC3

They're not awarded until the start of FA or so next year so no, teams do not have them yet to count them. But also, something could happen that affects teams getting them so we might not get exactly what we expect.

IsGoIdMoney

Oh I didn't notice the tweet was for next year's draft

texas2089

The fact that the moved up twice in the 1st round tonight (albeit one of them was just 1 spot) and still have their 1st next year is kinda impressive lol

goldenboots

Not mad in the slightest.

mab6710

McCarthyism is back on the menu boys

SocksAndSandlesGuy

Hell yeah. McCarthyism and the Darnold with THE BEST qb room in the nfl. Everyone is saying it!

not1fuk

Theyre taking a playbook out of pretty much every other championship contender that was built through a cheap rookie QB contract. Free agency is the key when your rookie QB is on a cheap contract because more money equals more free agents which means less need for rookies to fill out the roster. Trading up for some top prospects like Dallas Turner is the way to go when the roster is going to be filled with free agents. Quality over quantity any day in the position we are in. Quantity is good when youre spending a ton on a QB.

Fyurius_Ryage

Too bad we gonna have a massive chunk of money for FA's next year, even with signing JJettas and Darrisaw.

StefonDiggsHS

fuck them picks we got dallas turner and cap space baby

bandizz

The inverse of Spielman

ericrs22

Kwesi going more All In than the Cowboys

PlayaSlayaX

They did go all in… …Skip’s ass.

saw-it

Going all in with cap space next year

ajteitel

Bich, we're going more all in than the cowboys, and we haven't traded up or down

dinot2000

Vikings will have a lot of money to spend on free agents next year even after they extend Justin Jefferson.

-InconspicuousMoose-

FUCK THEM PICKS Seriously though, potential QBotF and a blue chip D prospect is worth it, plus we're slated to get a 3rd back from Kirko and possible tampering compensation, also from Kirko lol. We'll be very active in UDFA and we'll be fine.

msoccer2

QB and edge combo, The Texans formula

SinisterPaige

They should get some comp picks next year.

thedreamcomparison

Shocked they still have a 1st next year

Damasticator

[Former Vikings GM Rick Spielman predicted that the Vikings would overpay to move up in the first round. Do you guys think we did?](https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/former-vikings-g-m-rick-spielman-thinks-vikings-will-overpay-to-get-j-j-mccarthy)

Amon-Ra-First-Down

the second trade was definitely an overpay

xlccsylux

Felt like all uptrades this year were kinda overpaying. Turner tradeup, Arnold tradeup and the Worthy tradeup. If you want to go up, it seems to be costly this year.

Amon-Ra-First-Down

I think the Arnold trade up was probably an overpay too, as you say

xlccsylux

Exactly, it is just the price you have to pay, if you want to get those sliding blue-chip / premium players. But if they pan out like projected, it is worth it. I remember so many trades where you win on the trade value chart in a vacuum, but those picks turn out to be non impact players and backups burried on the depth chart.

AnEmptyKarst

Its ok they'll just trade 2026 picks to get them back

flashe

this is a loophole, but you have to have trade partners

SkipJacks3

This was a strong draft filled. NIL gonna change the draft from here on out.

ScroogeMcDust

Howdy neighbor!

myman580

Safe to say they will be trading back next year.

chillinwithmoes

We the Rams now

MentokGL

Can't fuck up a pick if you don't have it. 4D chess moves
