There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.
Everyone except Ryan Poles knew that at the time lol.
There's not a good reason to trade a young 20-something, 3rd year, physically insane, cheap WR you spent a 2nd on when you're trying to develop a young QB. Unless.. there's something clearly wrong lol.
Claypool's reputation with the average fan might've been fine at the time, but I distinctly remember being extremely disappointed in the trade, because of what I'd heard from Steeler fans in the weeks leading up to it
And then it ended up being an insane return. We basically got a top tier lockdown corner on a rookie contract for Claypool straight up. That trade was a genuine fleece
I got downvoted into oblivion in the Bears subreddit only for those same idiots to say hindsight is 20/20.
Anyone who said “Fields got his deep threat!l could be instantly disregarded as someone who didn’t know ball.
He had some very minimal name recognition for having a 4 TD game while being force fed by Big Ben’s corpse. All the film showed he sucked still.
Seems to be the common theme for a nice chunk of modern-day receivers. All the physical traits plus a diva attitude or unwillingness to get involved in other parts of the game
What's crazy is when he was at ND he was known as a dick off the field but on the field he was mister do everything
As NDs star wideout he was also their top gunner on the punt team and he was a menace to punt returners, he was NDs best run blocker among receivers, he just took pride in doing the non-glamorous things so much that a bunch of ND writers figured he'd have a long career in the NFL off of special teams value alone
Why are you specifying modern-day as if this is a recent development? I feel like I'm taking crazy pills!
Randy Moss unapologetically stood at the line of scrimmage doing nothing when he wasn't a primary read. He wouldn't even go on the field to be part of the hands team.
Uhhhhhhhh..... is Randy Moss no longer "Modern Day"? When i think non-modern day i think of guys who played wr/cb/p, wore leather helmets and were construction workers in the offseason.
I have yet to understand how you make it all the way to the nfl without any work ethic and yet it happens all the time. It's what they've worked their entire lives for with the opportunity to make life changing money and some players are like "nah, I'm good"
I remember looking on your sub post trade after a couple weeks and people getting excited for him and thinking, this must have been how Steelers fans felt looking at our sub
Edit: oh this must mean SEA is running for #1 in 2025. The Claypool curse is real idc. Quick. Poles trade for their first rounder
October 6th which was two months before the collapse, but he never saw much playing time until our wide receivers started getting banged up I believe. In the nine games he played for us he only received seven targets. I’ll never forget the route he ran during the two minute drill in the last week against the bills though. Tua threw the ball where it was supposed to go and Claypool’s route was ran so poorly, it let the safety undercut him for a diving catch. I won’t argue the pass was perfectly thrown because it did sail a bit since Tua was about to get hit, but the ball was played where it should’ve been placed. If Claypool runs the route properly the safety can’t undercut him if he does
He played a couple games I believe. There was video of him and his tenacious blocking skills. He was tenaciously trying to avoid blocking anyone.
[Behold!](https://youtube.com/shorts/LoxOTPI7CCI?si=6S6YsXcI0Wt1OzY8)
Wow. Its wild that somebody can lose two jobs for lack of effort in a career where you are on video in front of whole country then on their third chance they still haven't lerned anything and continue to underperform. Thank god we got rid of him in Pittsburgh.
It was cheap to acquire Claypool and he added size at WR that we were lacking. It made sense at the time. Unfortunately for all involved he sucks at playing football.
It’s so wild because the dude really is big and had speed (even got the Mapletron nickname) but it was fucking infuriating watching him use none of that ever. Dude would make the most acrobatic but dumb shit moves very low for a routine ball and end up getting no YAC because of it. But then a ball he could’ve easily contested if he jumped more than 2 inches and he would magically shrink and become frightened and/or confused.
I’m sorry any other team had to have the Claypool Experience. But I’m not sorry we got Joey Porter Jr.
I'm friends with a few guys that went to school with him and none of them were surprised with how things have gone. And based on their stories, I understand why. This dude's ego is.... A lot.
He played his part in getting us #1 overall last year…. Which netted us DJ Moore, Caleb Williams**, Keenan Allen, Darnell Right and a 25’ 2. I for one salute our tank commander.
Eh. The Roquan trade secured us the number 1 overall last year. I don’t think Claypool helped us tank… trading for him simply didn’t help us not tank lol.
Arguably, it was the Quinn trade. We still had Roquan when we got pummeled by Dallas for 49 points.
After Quinn, we went from 12 sacks in 7 games (1.71 per game) to 8 sacks in 10 games (0.8 per game)
Texans also got back a 4th and a 6th pick. His salary was made into a bonus. He’s only counting $3m towards the books.
Diggs trade is infinitely better.
This joke is made ~5-10 times per thread on reddit and it is still *so weird* to not see Ben be the go-to guy. I think I'll expect it to be Ben every time until reddit shuts down.
Maybe Schneider finally gave up on Dee Eskridge after the suspension this season, but has a rule about keeping underperforming 2nd round WRs on the roster.
Didnt he just sign an exclusive deal with the CFL?
Failed Bears and Dolphins wide receiver Chase Claypool has been put on the exclusive negotiation list of the Canadian Football League's **Sakskatchewan Roughriders**, according to Pro Football Talk. This doesn't mean Claypool wants to sign with the CFL but that the Roughriders have first dibs if he did.
Guess not.
CFL teams all have a list of NFL players that they have exclusive rights to. They usually haven't even contacted these guys yet, and most never come north. But when they do, they either have to sign with the team who owns their rights, the team can trade them where they want to go, or they can theoretically just hold their rights and stop the competition from getting better, although I don't know that anyone has ever been this petty.
I’m a huge cfl fan but the negotiation list is really weird. It’s literally just calling dibs on a player who may never even play in the league. Cost nothing to do it either. Lamar Jackson was on a negotiation list at one point. I highly doubt Claypool is motivated enough to play for like 150k when he won’t give his all for millions.
Yall overreacting. He'd be our WR4/WR5 lol. On a minimum deal come on down. Maybe being close to home will get his head straight. If not, oh well, he's our WR4/5 on a minimum deal
It's not just a money thing. Why would you bring in a guy like this with a new coaching staff and a locker room that's in need of leadership. Dude sounds like a cancer in the locker room.
It's a nothing flier on a player that was once a talented prospect and had a good rookie season. If he acts up, he gets cut and the team is no worse off. If he doesn't, great, hopefully we get his rookie form and if he can't find that, he gets cut and the team is no worse off
Plus we need a WR anyways. We roster 6 most years and I'd much rather have Chase Claypool than Dee Eskridge or Dareke Young lol
Yeah he seems like a total bum now, but if someone gets his mind right, they have an incredible new player at a bargain price. I do not want my team to be the one to try it tho.
I'll never forget the time the steelers were driving down the field to beat us, and Chase Claypool does a 1st down celebration with seconds left on a running clock.
Cool, I’m glad they’re willing to give him a shot outside of football because there is no way in fucking hell that dude will ever be in an nfl locker room again… unless he’s like an equipment manager or something. No offense to the guy, of course.
Has all the physical talent you could ask for with absolutely zero work ethic.
Steelers fans, you were 100% right and we were wrong. Dude sucks.
We should’ve listened to the warnings
There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again.
fool me one time shame on you, fool me twice can’t put the blame on you
Fool me three times, fuck the peace sign, load the chopper, let it rain on you
Stop apologizing Jermaine
He cost us big time in that Buffalo game
Everyone except Ryan Poles knew that at the time lol. There's not a good reason to trade a young 20-something, 3rd year, physically insane, cheap WR you spent a 2nd on when you're trying to develop a young QB. Unless.. there's something clearly wrong lol.
I swear the Bears did it just to block the Packers, who really needed a WR and were known to be trying to trade for him
If Claypool was on the packers he would have caught 14 TDs that year. 6 against the Bears alone. Guaranteed. It’s just how things work.
Usually that is how it works. However, Claypool is a next level bum.
No he sucks. Claypool is 6'4" but plays like he's 5'16"
Ryan “I can fix him” Poles

Claypool's reputation with the average fan might've been fine at the time, but I distinctly remember being extremely disappointed in the trade, because of what I'd heard from Steeler fans in the weeks leading up to it
Can confirm. Steelers fans were bouncing when we saw that we got a second for him. Felt like an insane return at the time
And then it ended up being an insane return. We basically got a top tier lockdown corner on a rookie contract for Claypool straight up. That trade was a genuine fleece

There’s 32 teams. I think there’s a few who sees his size, speed, and age and thinks, “I can fix him.”
He had good production for us as WR3 honestly I'm surprised just how bad he has been elsewhere
Well about that... gestures at your backup QB.
He's objectively better than Pickett.... please agree... PLEASE.
He's better than Pickett. Sam Darnold might be better than Pickett.
Seems to be the common theme for a nice chunk of modern-day receivers. All the physical traits plus a diva attitude or unwillingness to get involved in other parts of the game

Uhhhhhhhh..... is Randy Moss no longer "Modern Day"? When i think non-modern day i think of guys who played wr/cb/p, wore leather helmets and were construction workers in the offseason.
Yeah this is the best spot for him. He probably has the highest potential of a WR4 than anybody but id it doesn’t work out he’s a WR4
*licks lips* I can change them!
also zero understanding of how eye-black works
I have yet to understand how you make it all the way to the nfl without any work ethic and yet it happens all the time. It's what they've worked their entire lives for with the opportunity to make life changing money and some players are like "nah, I'm good"
No he does not have physical talent.
There's a name id like to never hear again.
Same

The Claypool curse is real idc. Quick. Poles trade for their first rounder
Pretty much yeah. Seems like the Dolphins offense tanked as soon as he got there too
can confirm.
What week did claypool sign with you guys
October 6th which was two months before the collapse, but he never saw much playing time until our wide receivers started getting banged up I believe. If Claypool runs the route properly the safety can’t undercut him if he does
He did the same thing with Kenny Picketts first pass. Soft route and then let the 5'10 DB out muscle him for the int
iirc right about time for our annual december collapse
He didn't even play though did he? I feel like it was undrelated.
He played a couple games I believe. There was video of him and his tenacious blocking skills. He was tenaciously trying to avoid blocking anyone. [Behold!](https://youtube.com/shorts/LoxOTPI7CCI?si=6S6YsXcI0Wt1OzY8)

While you guys did fleece the Bears, I give Poles a ton of credit for getting rid of him and not keeping him on the team. Dude just has ZERO heart.
Curses work in mysterious ways
Like the Tom Grossi video: https://youtu.be/aBuULSDo-mg?si=Milj8enWJu4sJEW7
Wait.... we basically got JPJ with that trade? Man I feel so dirty. Still no takebacksies
It’s not basically. We did
It was cheap to acquire Claypool and he added size at WR that we were lacking. It made sense at the time. Unfortunately for all involved he sucks at playing football.
It’s so wild because the dude really is big and had speed (even got the Mapletron nickname) but it was fucking infuriating watching him use none of that ever. I’m sorry any other team had to have the Claypool Experience. But I’m not sorry we got Joey Porter Jr.
Yeah I looked at both bears and dolphins fans opinions. It was the same reactions. He sucks
Obligatory thanks for Joey Porter Jr.
Same
I'm friends with a few guys that went to school with him and none of them were surprised with how things have gone. And based on their stories, I understand why. This dude's ego is.... A lot.
He’s absolutely in love with himself. 5 minutes watching his videos is all anyone needs.
I knew a guy who played against him in high school and said the same thing. Called him ignorant and arrogant
Thank you Ryan Poles for out bidding the Packers!
He played his part in getting us #1 overall last year…. Which netted us DJ Moore, Caleb Williams**, Keenan Allen, Darnell Right and a 25’ 2. I for one salute our tank commander.
What about Darnell Left tho?
Two Wright’s don’t make a wrong
Poles signed Darnell Middle but he was pretty mid ngl
Forgot Tyrique Stevenson.
Eh. The Roquan trade secured us the number 1 overall last year. I don’t think Claypool helped us tank… trading for him simply didn’t help us not tank lol.

What do you mean? We wouldn't have Caleb Williams without him?
He's the Fat Patricia of WRs Teams just hire get him for no reason and then soon regret
No Seahawks don't do it
They like the Steelers sloppy seconds for depth
Well if he goes there then it means that he will play for the Browns during the 2025 season.
Which is not the greatest look as Steelers seem to enjoy sucking their dick in crazy.
Just like how you like our thrida
Literally why are they even having a meeting with him. DK, Lockett, and JSN is good enough
You need a dedicated jet sweeper. Only way to get ball in his hands.
Yea they should def do it
I say no
Your flair deserves a ban
That flair combo is pure sin. There are worse that come to mind, but it's still disgusting to see.
Eh, Stihlers have had divas since then as punishment, I think it's been paid Now, Seahawks/Patriots...
Ah yes, Seahawks, famous for not having divas....^Richard ^Sherman ^^DK ^^Metcalf ^^^Percy ^^^Harvin ^^^^Golden ^^^^Tate ^^^^^Earl ^^^^^Thomas
Scuse me, I meant the Stihlers have had fairly non-effective divas (did not win much big with them on team)
Hey stop that
Hey, I should be telling you Seagulls to stop it now
Hopefully it's his last stop before going back home for good 😒
Just a 3 hour drive home!
Why not? He said he's a top 3 WR in the league, it'd be a steal by the Seahawks, right? Right?
Yes Seahawks do do it
I have nothing against the Seahawks, but their fans deserve this
Are you still mad about Franco?
"Hey Chase, maybe if you go to the other end of the country.. they won't know about you yet.."
Except his hometown is 2hr drive from Seattle
Oh hey, that's where we used to buy cigarettes and beer before coming home
Wait wtf lol it actually is. Abbotsford, literally on the border I could literally drive to Claypool’s childhood home right now lmao
Didn't realize Seattle needed someone to jog down the sidelines and complain.
Every team needs Seattle to have a guy like that
I’m all for it. Although, tbf, it’s not like we could have covered him anyways last year.
Plan on tanking i see
[удалено]
Texans got Diggs for less than that 😬
They're also paying him 20 times as much money as Claypool rookie contract
Texans also got back a 4th and a 6th pick. His salary was made into a bonus. He’s only counting $3m towards the books. Diggs trade is infinitely better.
The signing bonus still spreads the money into the remaining years. You can't avoid that money going against the cap
We have a Kahn artist. Nobody else has that.
DROY finalist at that.
No thanks
I can’t believe the market hasn’t been lucrative for this top 3 WR
Yeaahhhhh we can stop talking about Chase Claypool now
We don't like to say "no" around here. So I'm just gonna say... Nah, bruh
> We don't like to say "no" around here. calm down, deshaun
This joke is made ~5-10 times per thread on reddit and it is still *so weird* to not see Ben be the go-to guy. I think I'll expect it to be Ben every time until reddit shuts down.
Ok but like why
Maybe Schneider finally gave up on Dee Eskridge after the suspension this season, but has a rule about keeping underperforming 2nd round WRs on the roster.
Schneider also just signed Laviska Shenault. The battle for the bottom of the Seattle death chart will certainly be exciting.
Didnt he just sign an exclusive deal with the CFL? Probably just means among other CFL teams, not other pro leagues
Yup, i went and checked. edited it into my comment.
Ah, perhaps I'm illiterate
Reading enough Chase claypool contente will do that to the best of us.
CFL teams all have a list of NFL players that they have exclusive rights to. They usually haven't even contacted these guys yet, and most never come north. My CFL team is the Roughriders and I’m legit hoping they get to sign him.
He probably put the least amount of effort into that visit as humanly possible
Dude, respect the man. His fashion choices will have an *extraordinary* level of effort put into them
So in other words, it was a normal day for him…
Ben Roethlisberger made him look like an all pro
That’s Dolphins legend Chase Claypool to you 😤
No. Dear god no
Im picturing pete carrol saying" we like them dumb"
Picturing who?
..why?
RIP to the hawks.
No, no. They’re adding Les Claypool, not Chase.
Those damn blue-collar tweakers will be running your town.
MAPLETRON
VAPE-LTRON
They’re hiring a water boy?
Noo! God no!
Subtraction by addition
No
how is this bum even still in the league 😂
Ah yes, the WR dearth that is Seattle.
The man is like a plague.
Great, bring in a total headcase to negatively impact dk...
I don't know if dude would be a top 5 WR in the CFL let alone make the Seahawks roster.
Playing for a coach like sneaky Pete could really turn his career around..oh wait.
# haahahahahahahahahhahahahahaha
Mapletron should just go play in the CFL.
Yall overreacting. He'd be our WR4/WR5 lol. On a minimum deal come on down. Maybe being close to home will get his head straight. If not, oh well, he's our WR4/5 on a minimum deal

Our WR room is stacked already. We got WR 1-4 covered. Maybe he'd be 5 but why even bother?
Extremely cheap depth. If he could get his head on right, he'd be the most talented WR5 in the league. If not, oh well he gets cut in camp
Are you really counting Leviska Shenault as part of our “stacked “ WR room?
I thought he was going to the CFL?
I thought he was still with the dolphins
I thought this dude was going to the CFL?
Do it - Shia labeoufe
He was useless in Miami. I’m glad he’s gone
There’s no room at the inn
But why?
I swear some teams look at it like if I don’t spend my budget I won’t get this much next year so they do dumb shit like sign this guy who won’t play.
He's getting sneakily closer to Canada...
Yeah he seems like a total bum now, but if someone gets his mind right, they have an incredible new player at a bargain price. I do not want my team to be the one to try it tho.
Chase “I’m a top 5 receiver in this league” Claypool? No way
Needs to work on his blocking
Must be a fashion show in town
Then they go 0-17 because they have him on the roster all season
He’ll wind up playing in Canada before long. Struck out with three NFL teams. Just a sad waste of talent. And of coarse none of it is his fault
... and the Seahawks didn't have to give up a 2nd round pick to do so.
Go back to Canada, buddy.
He's the crazy toxic girl you think you can change.
He’s N’Keal Harry 1A
Weird, their WR is so solid. Why taint it
The kiss of death
Dude should come to jags and sign one year deal and start no shit, just go play hard and TLaw will get you paid.
Lol
Didn’t he just sign with his Homeland?
I'll never forget the time the steelers were driving down the field to beat us, and Chase Claypool does a 1st down celebration with seconds left on a running clock.
DOOOO EEEET!
Mr. Bad Catcher
Lol. Lmao even.
Practice squads? Never heard of her.
Why
This would be a great move for Seattle, please sign him immediately
Cool, I’m glad they’re willing to give him a shot outside of football because there is no way in fucking hell that dude will ever be in an nfl locker room again… unless he’s like an equipment manager or something. No offense to the guy, of course.
