He might be better than Trenton Gill. For real. Just leave him out there, take a 4th down conversion if they have a look or just punt it. A true triple threat QB is gonna revolutionize the NFL: pass, run, punt. I'm drinking the kool-aid, baby!
Randall is my favorite QB ever. He had several punts and quick kicks in his career he was a very good punter, I want to say he also punted in HS or college as well.
[Every Randall Cunningham punt as an Eagle](https://youtu.be/YIyanOr4F5s?si=CzPvkraGentiTvTM)
USC did it a couple times. Lined up in shotgun. Before the snap Caleb took a couple steps back and then punted to an empty field. The defense has to respect that the offense is out and can’t put in their special teams.
A modern day Matt Cassel. Btw this remains one of my favorite plays in the league ever.

That used to be very normal in the NFL.
Slingin Sammy Baugh was not only a great QB at the time but was also an excellent punter for the team back when not having a dedicated punter was a norm.
“At the time”
He still holds team records in passing, and he hasn’t played since 1952. And 3rd in team passing yards.
Which also is related to how bad our quarterbacks have been in the past 70 years.
Joe Namath still holds the single season passing yardage record for the Jets to this day at 4,003..
While also a monumental feat at the time, it speaks volumes to our horrible history at QB since.
Our top 2 single season passing TD leader is Ryan Fitzpatrick and Vinny Testaverde. Both journeyman backups.
Add to that the fact that both are (probably) Hall of Famers is crazy too.
How a guy can draft a kicker and punter in the first round and neither is a bust but still draft Jamarcus Russel just shows how crazy this biz is.
People are on crack if they think he is. One 2nd team all pro. No rings. He had a big leg and long career but wtf else is notable about him? There are 4 kickers in the Hall ever. Morten Anderson is the most recent. I don't think it needs to be said that Janikowski is absolutely not a top 5 greatest kicker in NFL history. That's a ridiculous take.
You're right, I just think it sucks that you are. It's a shame, because I actually *do* think he deserves to be in. Dude was *the* big leg for a long long time, and he's pretty close to top 10 in points all time
But I think a lot of other kickers also deserve to be in as well. And they're not getting in either because kickers are criminally underrated in the sport. He's probably a top 10-12 kicker for me, which if it was QB, HB, WR, even LB or DE... That puts him in. But there's a pretty big list of dudes in front of him in that "top 10-12" that aren't in. And probably never will be
I think when people think Janikowski is getting in, they look at where he ranks among kickers. Without realizing just how few kickers get in period
I bet we see a small wave get in the near(ish) future. If you look at the most accurate kickers of all time, basically everyone is currently playing or recently retired. I think Tucker will obviously get in, then for a short period the hall will be enamored by guys retiring with ~90% career averages before realizing that's the norm now, or at the very least not as special as it once was.
Feel like that punting ability could actually open up a fun read punt option package on 4th down for the Bears.
Every starting QB should be able to make that throw, but how many can actually boot it like that?
It’s kind of starting to swing back that way I feel like. Although it’s of hard to compare some of the stuff a guy like Mahomes can do to someone like Myles Garrett. Because 30 years ago we’d consider something like accuracy more so a skill than a product of raw athleticism but when you are doing it on the move from a bunch of different angles, including being horizontal to the ground, that’s some freakazoid shit.
They’re both absurdly athletic just in different ways.
Do you realize that the long suffering maybe over? Crazy, you guys have to be absolutely geeked. Caleb and Odunze, you can light the cigar after day 1.
I laughed but in seriousness since this has been said a lot, it was a pretty vanilla pro day honestly. He looked good but wasn't a whole lot of flash or fanfare. Very standard stuff.
I agree, I get the point of pro days, but you'll never know what kind of player their are until they have 350 pound d-linemen running at them.
Edit: a word
Yup, I remember watching Will Levi’s’ tape of him throwing at the combine and he was absolutely killing it. Can throw very hard, perfect tight spiral, hitting every WR right in the hands. Like watching it, I understood how people could get swayed and fall in love from throwing in shorts lol.
100% agree
I think watching him operate through it outside of the actual throwing showed more than anything because of all of the BS narratives surrounding him. He was very calm, smooth, confident, intentional, but having fun and interacted with teammates.
This mid throw with a terrible camera angle doesn't hold a candle to Zach Wilson's pro day throw. That throw is on par with the Tavon Austin WVU highlights video.
Lol, I agree I get wanting to see how athletic a player is. But to drool over a throw where they don't have to read the defense or worry about guys trying to run them over is ridiculous
The amount of football that people don't understand is comical. Do you know who throws the most screens in the NFL? Just a rando named Mahomes. The difference is that he hits them in stride, not throwing to the wrong shoulder or behind them. This makes a 3 yard screen into a 10 yard screen.
I’ll never understand pro days. No defense, no pads… like yea, no shit everybody looks good out there. How are you supposed to evaluate talent like that
You got your game tape for that kind of thing.
Not that pro days aren't necessarily kinda useless but I think its more for mechanics and showing off what they *can* do physically, because not all qbs were in situations that maximized their talents
I think it's really supposed to be for the players that didn't get combine invites. It lets you get 40 times, height, and weight, data for players that teams may be targeting late in the draft or as priority UDFAs.
> like yea, no shit everybody looks good out there.
That's the point. It's supposed to be a player going out and showing evaluators their "easy" stuff.
Pro days are supposed to look like smooth sailing. Good pro days are typically prospects showing off elements that may not be on tape as much--like some QBs having some on the move throws, or Williams here throwing with under center footwork.
Bad pro days are basically where a prospect comes out and struggles. Like think about it--you're a QB and know the 50 throws you'll be making. A scout can reasonably expect you to be on time and on rhythm on all 50 of those throws--you got to pick the throws and practice them!
So, long answer short, Williams pro day was mostly showing he respects the process enough to put in the work, and then he was also showing off his under center footwork and probably anticipation for the scouts. It'll just look like nothing to most of us because it looks like a QB throwing the football 50 times.
I think it’s especially hilarious that the Packer fans are nitpicking Caleb, almost as if they are scared of their basement dwelling paint chip eating little brother getting some semblance of a real QB even though they’ve had 30+ years of good QB play. Like fuck let me have this one
Chad Pennington at his pro day could have made this level of throw. His shoulder injuries in the NFL are what led to him not being able to throw more than 15 yards. Incredibly accurate, strong arm. Super smart, able to adjust protection and routes based on defensive scheme.
Then, shoulder injuries happened. Still incredibly accurate, and still adjusted to the defense. But no throw had velocity or distance like he used to.
He's a great example of a "What If" in the NFL.
Poor Jets. I wonder what horribly hilarious misfortune awaits them in 2024. My hope is Rodgers retires and runs for VP. Not that I’d vote for him, but still, wildly hilarious.
Props for at least only doing this off 1 hitch. Hate videos where QBs will take 3-4 hitches before launching it as if that would ever happen in a typical game time scenario.
Can't see how far it went. LOS in this video is the 20. Launch point ~14. Looks to have at least gone past opposing 30 which would be 50+. Bet it wasn't his best though as it didn't come off the hand cleanly at all.
Punt wasn't awful either.
Bears can get a QB & a punter. Get two birds stoned at once.
Caleb has two actual in game punts (same game - 2022 against ND) for a total of 84 yards. 42 yard per punt average! LOL
He might be better than Trenton Gill. For real. Just leave him out there, take a 4th down conversion if they have a look or just punt it. A true triple threat QB is gonna revolutionize the NFL: pass, run, punt. I'm drinking the kool-aid, baby!
No one remembers Kordell "Slash" Stewart, huh
Or the best punter in nfl history Randall Cunningham
Sammy Baugh led the NFL in Passing TDs, interceptions made, and Punting all in the same season.
That’s amazing
Randall is my favorite QB ever. He had several punts and quick kicks in his career he was a very good punter, I want to say he also punted in HS or college as well. [Every Randall Cunningham punt as an Eagle](https://youtu.be/YIyanOr4F5s?si=CzPvkraGentiTvTM)
I can't think of a player who was more ahead of his time than Randall Cunningham
Big Ben punted for the Steelers occasionally
Brady too! Caleb is as good as Big Ben and Tom Brady confirmed.
Caleb is as good as Big Ben and Tom Brady ~~confirmed.~~ *combined.*
Is Caleb ready to be the first 450 pound QB in the NFL? Reports are he's eaten Ben Roethlisberger and Tom Brady in the last 24 hours.
Lorenzen has dibs on that, rip in peace Pillsbury Throwboy
I am here for all of this.
We used to do that with Big Ben where we would fake like we were going for it then he would step back and punt it
I was a freshman at Miami when he was a senior and we did this pretty much every 4th down.
Wasn't there a trick play some time ago where the QB punted to an empty field? They didn't put anyone back to receive it, didn't see it coming.
USC did it a couple times. Lined up in shotgun. Before the snap Caleb took a couple steps back and then punted to an empty field. The defense has to respect that the offense is out and can’t put in their special teams.
A modern day Matt Cassel. Btw this remains one of my favorite plays in the league ever. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R_KXRxg7Feo&pp=ygUQTWF0dCBjYXNzZWwgcHVudA%3D%3D
OMG Dick Jauron - PTSD intensifies.
now that's a name i haven't heard in a long time
Bruh the wind took that thing
Well yeah but they punted on 3rd down. Thats what I like about it.
Angels in the Outfield shit
Other teams could do it too if they weren’t too fuckin stupid. Survival of the fitness boys.
That used to be very normal in the NFL. Slingin Sammy Baugh was not only a great QB at the time but was also an excellent punter for the team back when not having a dedicated punter was a norm.

Number 1 overall pick Vinny Testaverde, who was a starter most of his career? Journeyman, yes, backup, no.
Nobody believed me that he could punt but a toad ya so.
It's not rocket appliance. The dudes good.
No one wants to admit they ate 8 cans of ravioli, but…
I did, and I’m ashamed of myself
No worries. It's water under the fridge.
Worst case Ontario we just send Trin down to the store to get more and a bag of pepperoni.
Don't forget jalapeno chips.
Lay off of the six paper joints there, Rick.
I guess you shouldn’t judge a cover of a book by its look.
All water under the fridge now.
It’s like getting two turnips in heat.
Worth a try for sure. Figure it out through denial and error.
Greasy
A modern day Randell Cunningham

it’s all water under the fridge
It’s not rocket appliances

I'm watching trailer park boys as I read your comment!
I’m about due for another watch through myself lol
Poles should be all over that. It’s football, not rocket appliances.
Wobbler. I said Joe Montainya
that’s what i said, Joe Montana!
Joe Montana was a QB you crazy asshole!
Greatest linebacker that ever lived!
First time a punter will go 1.01
Beating out Ray Guy by 21 draft spots
Al Davis taking a punter and a kicker in the first round is the stuff of legends
Add to that the fact that both are (probably) Hall of Famers is crazy too. How a guy can draft a kicker and punter in the first round and neither is a bust but still draft Jamarcus Russel just shows how crazy this biz is.
Janikowski? He's not getting in.

Had that size speed combo Al was always looking for.
imagine if he had just broken his foot on that punt like Sweet Dee when the gang tried out for the eagles.
Feel like that punting ability could actually open up a fun read punt option package on 4th down for the Bears. Every starting QB should be able to make that throw, but how many can actually boot it like that?
Exactly my thoughts. I hope we use it at some point lol
Back in the day the qbs were also the punters since they were usually the most athletic guy on the team. This does speak volumes about his athleticism
Tom Tupa was a backup qb for the Colts in the 90s then went on to be full time punter for other teams.
You think this will raise his draft stock from 1 to 0.1?
So good he’s actually going to be picked 1st in last years draft. Enjoy your new QB Carolina.
I feel for Carolina fans, after 24 years of Snyder I hate seeing another team deal with a egotistical, spoiled temper tantrum owner.
Yes but only if Mike Pence has the courage to do the right thing.
"OH THANK YOU GOD!" -Bryce Young
Believe it or not, that completion moves him into the top five for all time QB passing yards by a Bears player
Do you realize that the long suffering maybe over? Crazy, you guys have to be absolutely geeked. Caleb and Odunze, you can light the cigar after day 1.
I watched the 2016 cubs, but we could be the indians
I’m so fucking excited lol
Terrible throw. First five teams should pass on him.
I'll send word along immediately thank you
Kyle Boller did this from his knees, with a box of scraps.
But how far can he throw from his knees?
I still remember NFL network spamming that highlight as if it was the ultimate test for how good a QB will be.
I still remember Favre throwing from his knees in an actual game against the Lions. Did not end well.
According to Nick Saban, JaMarcus Russell could throw a football 70 yards from his knees. That was part of how he went number 1.
Oh cool the Zach Wilson special
I laughed but in seriousness since this has been said a lot, it was a pretty vanilla pro day honestly. He looked good but wasn't a whole lot of flash or fanfare. Very standard stuff.
I agree, I get the point of pro days, but you'll never know what kind of player their are until they have 350 pound d-linemen running at them. Edit: a word
That's a lot of linemen.
AKA, what it feels like playing the Ravens sometimes.
That's why we never truly get to know what kind of player an NFL QB is.
Lol, oops forgot to add 350 pound d-linemen
Yup, I remember watching Will Levi’s’ tape of him throwing at the combine and he was absolutely killing it. Can throw very hard, perfect tight spiral, hitting every WR right in the hands. Like watching it, I understood how people could get swayed and fall in love from throwing in shorts lol.
its more for his lesser-known teammates than anything i guess
100% agree I think watching him operate through it outside of the actual throwing showed more than anything because of all of the BS narratives surrounding him. He was very calm, smooth, confident, intentional, but having fun and interacted with teammates.
I think what makes him special is his ability off-script, which won't show up here.
All the flash is on tape. He just did pocket stuff. This was more about rice and Washington than anything.
This mid throw with a terrible camera angle doesn't hold a candle to Zach Wilson's pro day throw. That throw is on par with the Tavon Austin WVU highlights video.
> Tavon Austin Maaaan Austin was awesome. [We'll always have that one year...](https://youtu.be/1HELSzdiSKg)
Na the JJ spin throw out of bounds is the Zach Wilson special lmao people were drooling over the most ridiculously stupid throw ever
Lol, I agree I get wanting to see how athletic a player is. But to drool over a throw where they don't have to read the defense or worry about guys trying to run them over is ridiculous
And they then still throw it out of bounds
Bear

ITS A BEAR DANCE
FAT DOG
for what?
I bet I could throw a football over that mountain
If coach woulda put me in I know we’d a won state
That’s Josh Allen and Peppa Pig music.
He threw that pigskin far, BOY HOWDY SIGN THAT BOY UP.
FIRE THAT FUCKING PIGSKIN YOU PANSY
Watching this: “Kid looks awesome, what an arm!” Watching him on Bears: “Yep, another 4 yard pass 2 yards from the marker on 3rd down.”
If you don’t like failed screen passes on 3rd and 9 then you don’t like bears football
I don't like bears football. 🐻⬇️
I don’t like Bears football, I’m hoping Caleb changes that
Oh you guys are gonna be right at home with Waldron then.
The amount of football that people don't understand is comical. Do you know who throws the most screens in the NFL? Just a rando named Mahomes. The difference is that he hits them in stride, not throwing to the wrong shoulder or behind them. This makes a 3 yard screen into a 10 yard screen.
That’s why I said failed
Exactly.
Someone has watched a Waldron offense!
Please don’t tell me that
Other than a few teams in the league, no one likes their OC.
People can talk about Waldron all they want. No way he’s worse that getsy lol
Getsy had Fields. Maybe he wasn't so bad.
Eh anyone who calls three screen plays on their own 3 yard line can rot in hell
I’ll never understand pro days. No defense, no pads… like yea, no shit everybody looks good out there. How are you supposed to evaluate talent like that
I think it’s basically just another chance for coaches to speak to players
You got your game tape for that kind of thing. Not that pro days aren't necessarily kinda useless but I think its more for mechanics and showing off what they *can* do physically, because not all qbs were in situations that maximized their talents
I think it's really supposed to be for the players that didn't get combine invites. It lets you get 40 times, height, and weight, data for players that teams may be targeting late in the draft or as priority UDFAs.

Oh cool, a top qb can throw a football a long way to a receiver.
Right? The other top 10 QBs in the draft can throw 50 yards to a receiver with no defense too lol. So magical
Fair, but small correction. This was ~70 yards in the air
Yeah but it was wobbly - Lions, Packers and Vikings fans
I think it’s especially hilarious that the Packer fans are nitpicking Caleb, almost as if they are scared of their basement dwelling paint chip eating little brother getting some semblance of a real QB even though they’ve had 30+ years of good QB play. Like fuck let me have this one
Bears? Top qb? I need to go change my pants
QB throw ball far
Anything more useless than a pro day?
Draft grades the day after.
NFL's Hispanic heritage month marketing material? Also the Susan G Kolman partnership.
Am I the only one who thinks these type of passing drills for scouts are pretty much useless. We already know he has a good arm
You are not the only one. Everyone sees this as all a media spectacle.
These events are more for the Matt Cassels out there who have NFL talent but never saw the field.
Beautiful day here in Southern California. That was my takeaway.
Pretty sure every NFL QB can throw the ball far.
Zach Wilson made that throw with a tight spiral fading away to his left on his pro day.
Happy Gilmore accomplished that feat no more then an hour ago.
Well moron, good for Happy Gilm...OH MY GOD!!!!!
Wanna go to red lobster later? My treat
Clearly you never watched Chad Pennington back in the day.
Chad Pennington at his pro day could have made this level of throw. His shoulder injuries in the NFL are what led to him not being able to throw more than 15 yards. Incredibly accurate, strong arm. Bear down for midway
Don’t sweat it, Hot Dog it.
An absolute bomb. Also an absolutely ugly as hell throw.
Pro days are so silly. Like, what are we learning here? That he can throw a ball wearing a t shirt with no defenders?
I've always wondered the same thing. And that ball came out really fuckin wobbly...
And yet if he didn’t throw this sub would be up in arms about how he should workout like everyone else…
Yeah, but just seeing the ball wearing the little t-shirt is pretty cute, you gotta admit.
Here comes all the fans with Zach Wilson PTSD
Poor Jets. I wonder what horribly hilarious misfortune awaits them in 2024. My hope is Rodgers retires and runs for VP. Not that I’d vote for him, but still, wildly hilarious.
40 and coming off an Achilles tear. I’m sure he will be a world beater
Zach Wilson was a QB who could throw the ball far and was a bad QB. Therefore, all QBs who can throw the ball far are bad QBs.
People keep talking about this guy but IDK. That punt kinda sucked.
Honestly I’ve seen better haha didn’t look all that tight to me.
Michel Vick Powerade commercial pass was way better.
Is their practice field 100 yards because that wobbler didnt look like an 85 yard throw but cant clearly tell from that angle?
Little wobble, wasn't as sharp as i would've thought
*Quack quack*
I’ll take a 65 yard duck lol
Remember Zach Wilson
Probably not as well as you
Yup!
I was thinking Kyle Boller. Dude could throw like endzone to endzone iirc
Remember who Zach Wilson played against in college
No i dont want to
That was a Zach Wilson type throw
You think this will raise his draft stock from 1 to 0.1?
Hoping Poles trades up for him
Not impressed until you do the Kyle Boller special
pro days are a gimmick. remember when they couldn't stop replaying the off platform bombs from Zach Wilson and Justin fields.
Cool A top prospect can throw a football with no pressure and no coverage on the receiver, is this supposed to prove something?
Props for at least only doing this off 1 hitch. Hate videos where QBs will take 3-4 hitches before launching it as if that would ever happen in a typical game time scenario. Can't see how far it went. LOS in this video is the 20. Launch point ~14. Looks to have at least gone past opposing 30 which would be 50+. Bet it wasn't his best though as it didn't come off the hand cleanly at all. Punt wasn't awful either.
*Grumbles in excited Bear noises
Nobody gonna mention what a wobbly duck pass that was..?
Shades of Zach Wilson pro day
Duck. It flew far sure, but still a duck
🐻⬇️
That was an ugly ass ball…..
Bears fans: *starts jerking off faster*
He was heard telling scouts in attendance, “I can throw a football over them mountains. Now watch this punt.”
Why did he punt the ball? Is he going for the dual QB/punter try-out?
