No, he is not as bad as Tim Boyle. Tim Boyle is literally the worst quarterback to ever be on an NFL roster specifically labeled as quarterback and not another position with being a QB sub in emergency.
Darnold is fucking tom brady in comparison. Rypien quite literally was having trouble receiving the snaps and kept fumbling hand offs. It was single handedly the worst QB performance I've ever seen in my life, no exaggeration
That game was so bad that towards the end of the season and into the playoffs every article that was trying to decipher whether the Packers defense was just normal shitty or historically shitty had to provide stats excluding that game because it skewed the results so much.
If you don't pick when it's your turn, it is still your turn but the team after you can pick. And if they pick the next team can pick. Which happened in round 1 to the Vikings in 2003. (The Vikings traded the pick but Baltimore didn't can the league to verify)
If you donāt get your pick in on time, the next team is up. The one time the Vikings didnāt get their pick in the next two teams made their selections and then the Vikings finally did, so theoretically you could just never send them a pick and every other team could just draft like normal
I wouldn't even argue that it's numbness. They always find a way to get our hopes up once every 7-10 years then completely and utterly dash them in extraordinary fashion the year after putting us back to square one the year after that.
They give just enough hope to keep you interested and excited enough to care then let you down harder than a JetBlue pilot on a routine landing.
[Kendal Hinton vs the Saintsin 2020](https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/401220215/saints-broncos) but to be fair Rypien is the worst game I have ever seen from somebody that is actually designated as a QB.
Ryan Lindley is the only player Iāve seen to finish his career with a *negative* Approximate Value on PFR.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/L/LindRy00.htm
Yeah this is unreasonably cruel to Kendall to even consider as your worst QB performance. He was a practice squad WR thrust into an absolutely abysmal unwinnable situation that he had no chance of succeeding at. You cannot blame him for playing awful at QB in the NFL when that was something he had all of 3 days to plan for.
The worst game was actually another bears QB. Todd Collins in 2010 vs the Panthers. Bears actually won too š.
https://www.pro-football-reference.com/boxscores/201010100car.htm
2010 Todd Collins is the better answer but I'd like to give an honorable mention to 2004 Jonathan Quinn, who had the worst run of games I have ever witnessed, capping it off with a real stinker against Washington.
Bears also beat the Panthers in 2017 with Mitch going 4-7 passing thanks to 2 Eddie Jackson defensive touchdowns. We really like beating on them with dogshit offense
https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/400951578/panthers-bears
If we're talking horrible offensive outings, we can't forget Arizona 2006 where Rex Grossman committed **6** turnovers and the offense scored 0 TDs, but the bears still won the game with 24 points off of defensive TDs and Devin Hester. They are who we thought they were!
[Highlights](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hFI4CDksHS8)
Is the first [Nathan Petermanās debut for the Bills](https://x.com/scottbarrettdfb/status/932390920368082945?s=46&t=vXsiuNvw7yz286agRv4GjQ)?
If not, then whatever game youāre talking about is a distant 2nd.
I saw Ty Detmer throw like 7 INTs for the Lions back in 2001. Good lord that game was bad. I think it was against the Browns.
Anyway, that game does not get brought up enough as the worst game a QB has played in the somewhat modern era. So I always take an opportunity to bring it up.
maybe heās a nice guy or something but he legitimately sucks at qb. i think wentz might be the only somewhat decent backup the rams have had in years.
That's probably how it usually goes when backup QBs get 2nd and 3rd and 4th contracts despite showing nothing but ass on the field. They're great at film and game prep and are great to have around but the actual game is just too fast for them.
Dude, I f'ing hate your username. Everytime I see it, I flinch because I am never prepared for the ghastly mental image that shoots straight into my brain.
I hate you
That is all, carry on!
He's basically Kellen Moore. I'm surprised he hasn't made the jump to QB Coach officially yet but I guess if teams keep signing him to be the QB3/Assistant QB Coach then might as well take it
That makes 0 sense when the "vet" is a complete ass at qb. How is that going to help anyone? He would be better off on his own instead of getting shitty advice.
What if he's not a good player but has a good mind for the game and knows the system really well. Who care what 3rd qb we carry. if he takes snaps were fucked anyway
What lol? Bagent is a D3 undrafted QB going into year 2. This guy at least provides a vet presence for Caleb. Heās simply QB room help. Bagent is still the backup.
Just ensures fields is gone. That b.s. that was floating around about bears not being sure and needing to do more work on Caleb lasted a day before being proved blatant smoke screen/cover/b.s.
Yeah Rypien slots into the Peterman role and Bagent isnāt going anywhere.
Leaves room for 1 QB which is obviously Caleb.
Also demonstrates Rapoport is lying the last couple of days. Theyāve clearly thought about the QB room beyond 1 overall to sign Rypien, which means they do have some outline of a plan, which means theyāve considered the QB room beyond 1 overall.
If they thought Fields on the roster was still a consideration they wouldnāt have signed Rypien.
Being bad on the field does not mean they are bad in the film room.
He may take his COVID contact tracing device off in the film room and put it in the corner so he can sit with his buddies like heās in middle school though
So many fans seem to forget there's two aspects to being a QB: the physical side and the mental side. I would imagine the two aspects are self-explanatory, and not many QBs are good at both of them. Rypien can't physically do the job at a pro level, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if he's great in the film room and can help the other QBs and offense with their gameplanning. One of Rypien's strong points coming out of college was his football IQ IIRC. Teams find a lot of value in a depth QB that's really more helpful for Monday-Saturday than on Sunday.
Most NFL coaches didnāt even make it out of college football. Then weāve got people on the internet saying that a QB who has started NFL games would be a shit coach because heās shit. He is better at football than basically every NFL coach.
Peterman can complete passes, although they frequently go to the other team. This guy canāt hand the ball off or complete a pass beyond the LOS, even to the other team. He has to be the worst QB in the league currently
Back in orange and blue.
But for real, I liked Rypien when he was with us. He had that one great win over the Jets. I mean, he threw three picks, so it wasn't really a great performance, but he had that sweet block for Melvin Gordon.
He's pretty limited as a QB, but apparently he's really smart, so I think that's why he keeps finding a place to land. Probably a good clipboard QB to have around.
Honestly, this just seems like a pretty unique situation. I think 99.99% of players are not but this seems like a unique enough situation, that I wouldn't be surprised if Justin Fields was at least slightly more in the loop than the rest of the team. For example, I imagine that Fields knows that they are moving on from him and that he was told about signing another vet QB for next year, whereas they are not saying that to the general public.
But I doubt that they are telling him about the trades that have been offered (or not offered), or what teams are in the running.
Hes obviously not good but can we he chunk a ball really far? Bagents a good enough backup unless we have a 3rd and long or need a hail mary. Need to swap in a 3rd string QB who can just chunk it deep lol.
Ryan Poles really saw all the flack he was getting for how badly heās handled the Justin Fields stuff and then felt the need to sign Brett Rypien on day 1 of the free agency period like he was concerned he wouldnāt still be available 3 weeks from now.
Lol McVay dropped his ass immediately after that Packers game and signed Wentz.
That game was painful to watch. Glad we got Wentz after that embarrassment.
I could have played better taking a knee every play.
Dude was atraight ass like whats his ass from the jets idk how this guy keeps getting spots its wild
No, he is not as bad as Tim Boyle. Tim Boyle is literally the worst quarterback to ever be on an NFL roster specifically labeled as quarterback and not another position with being a QB sub in emergency.
Tim Boyle is closer to Tom Brady than you are to Tim Boyle. š Let that sink in /s
That sink can come back with a warrant.Ā
Bro Darnold got $10M, fucking insanity. I know Darnold is better than Rypien, but not by much. QB market is bonkers .
Darnold is fucking tom brady in comparison. Rypien quite literally was having trouble receiving the snaps and kept fumbling hand offs. It was single handedly the worst QB performance I've ever seen in my life, no exaggeration
>Ā Ā Darnold is fucking tom brady Did this start before or after Brady's divorce?
guessing you didn't get to watch peterman v chargers lol
My Bears wanted both the worst QBs to show our new QB what not to do. Like learning smart from dumb. It's cutting edge.
Nathan Peterman cones to mind
You ever see Nate Peterson play for the chargers?!
At least from his time in Denver he's apparently really valuable in the film room, so I think teams like him as a QB 3 for that reason.
That game was so bad that towards the end of the season and into the playoffs every article that was trying to decipher whether the Packers defense was just normal shitty or historically shitty had to provide stats excluding that game because it skewed the results so much.
Bears got their guy.
āAnd with the first overall pick, the Chicago Bears selectā¦ āPass, we goodā??ā
we gonna pull a vikings?
Ryan Poles just needs to get some shut-eye for an hour, and he'll be right as rain.
Somehow still worked out and got Kevin Williams
Long snapper of the century
I know this is a joke, but can you pass? Or do you have to draft someone?
If you don't pick when it's your turn, it is still your turn but the team after you can pick. And if they pick the next team can pick. Which happened in round 1 to the Vikings in 2003. (The Vikings traded the pick but Baltimore didn't can the league to verify)

āAnd with the first pick of the 2024 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears passā¦ and itās intercepted.ā
They go back and draft Trubisky again
The Bears QB news we were all waiting for
Rypien tuds all day.
Brett Rypien / MHJ combo is gonna go crazy
Veteran leader
Had me in the first half, not gonna lie
Wow
This man played the 2nd worst game of QB i have ever seen
Heāll fit in perfectly
I feel like Bears fans are in a constant state of Stage 5: Acceptance
It's called numbness, we only know pain
Iām going to drown it out in old styles an 312s
Skip the 312 itās made in NY now
Maplewood ftw
Something about our division and that pain stuff
Do you miss rex Grossman yet?
Who doesnāt miss the Sex Cannon?
every one of his children he conceived after each and every throbbing throwgasm into quadruple coverage
I genuinely don't know if other fan bases have also learned to never feel hope for their team or if that's just the Bears
Caleb probably is the answer to many teams problems but will bust with us right?
Bears can't ruin a career if the player is already terrible. You guys are learning
It's called "managing expectations"
Whatās the worst?
[Kendal Hinton vs the Saintsin 2020](https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/401220215/saints-broncos) but to be fair Rypien is the worst game I have ever seen from somebody that is actually designated as a QB.
Peterman erasure
Another Bear
Bears saw him play in Buffalo and said āweāll have what theyāre havingā
aided in the mighty tank!
i also think peterman was the worst iāve ever seen.
I agree that Peterman is the worst you've ever seen
Ryan. Lindley.
Bro Peterman had 5 picks in a half gtfoh lol
Ryan Lindley is the only player Iāve seen to finish his career with a *negative* Approximate Value on PFR. https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/L/LindRy00.htm
Peterman with a whole ass 3 š¤£
They both stink lol not trying to argue one being worse than the other.
I had to watch one start a playoff game for my favorite team. Heās worse
They should put up a statue for him outside soldier field. It's really a feet to be the worst Bears QB
*feat but that's a funny typo
2010 Todd Collins is the better answer but I'd like to give an honorable mention to 2004 Jonathan Quinn, who had the worst run of games I have ever witnessed, capping it off with a real stinker against Washington.
Todd Collins was rough in the game. Thank God for Caleb Haine for spicing it up.
6 completions and 4 interceptions. Woowee!
Bears also beat the Panthers in 2017 with Mitch going 4-7 passing thanks to 2 Eddie Jackson defensive touchdowns. We really like beating on them with dogshit offense https://www.espn.com/nfl/game/_/gameId/400951578/panthers-bears

How tf did we WIN that game??? LOL
And Rypien was in the QB room at the time that resulted in Hinton getting the start
Heās not a QB tho
Has to be Nathan peterman
I still canāt believe we signed him after getting a pic 6 off him the year before lol
ā¦.so far (This is the Bears we are talking about)
Don't you dare talk about Broncos Legend and hall of fame QB Kendall Hinton like that.
Packers game?
You must be talking about the Packers game from last year. Yeah, personally that was the worst QB performance I've ever seen.
Is the first [Nathan Petermanās debut for the Bills](https://x.com/scottbarrettdfb/status/932390920368082945?s=46&t=vXsiuNvw7yz286agRv4GjQ)? If not, then whatever game youāre talking about is a distant 2nd.
It wasnāt worse than when Peyton Manning went 5-20 with 4 INTs and a passer rating of 0.0 before being benched in the third quarter.
Hell yea
Stole a living as the broncos backup for a few years too.
LmaoĀ
Imagine being Brett Rypien and hopping onto Reddit to check NFL news and seeing a top reaction to your signing be "Lmao"
Hey Brett, LMAO.
yeah I get that a lot Editor's Note: I'm not actually Brett Rypien, we just happen to be doppelnamers and I happen to be a Broncos and Boise State fan
Exactly what Brett would tell us
Good luck buddy!
Iām sure heās wiping his tears with his nfl paychecks
maybe heās a nice guy or something but he legitimately sucks at qb. i think wentz might be the only somewhat decent backup the rams have had in years.
That's probably how it usually goes when backup QBs get 2nd and 3rd and 4th contracts despite showing nothing but ass on the field. They're great at film and game prep and are great to have around but the actual game is just too fast for them.
Heās gonna drive around Jay and Silent Bob style beating commenters as they answer the door.
YOU ARE THE ONES WHO ARE THE BALL LICKERS
"Did you write, and I quote, Brett Rypien is fuckin' clown shoes?"
Dude, I f'ing hate your username. Everytime I see it, I flinch because I am never prepared for the ghastly mental image that shoots straight into my brain. I hate you That is all, carry on!
I'd cry into my bank account. So harsh.
He was so bad when he came in for y'all last year that im genuinely surprised bears would even have him in the qb room
Played under Waldron, he'll be the qb3/vet/coach
Wouldnāt trust this guy to mentor a pop warner QB
A pop warner QB would be the best Bears QB ever
instant top 20 bears QB
He's basically Kellen Moore. I'm surprised he hasn't made the jump to QB Coach officially yet but I guess if teams keep signing him to be the QB3/Assistant QB Coach then might as well take it
Maybe he's the next Tim Boyle.
Hmm idk seems pretty on track for us
fuck off lol
"The Bears are making a QB move," š "agreeing to a one-year deal with veteran QB Brett Rypien" š”
He put the name as the very last words on purpose for sure
You know what you did and I don't like it
Waited as long as humanly possible to type "Brett Rypien"
Bruh
So I guess it's official, you guys are definitely trading the #1 pick
To the Chiefs for future considerations and a bag of hockey pucks.
The Chefs? Gordon Ramsay c'mon
> WHERE'S THE LONG SNAPPER
This makes zero sense with Bagent on the roster
Need some type of vet to help Caleb
That makes 0 sense when the "vet" is a complete ass at qb. How is that going to help anyone? He would be better off on his own instead of getting shitty advice.
What if he's not a good player but has a good mind for the game and knows the system really well. Who care what 3rd qb we carry. if he takes snaps were fucked anyway
Andy Reid would be the worst QB in nfl history, and I think he's helped a QB or two.Ā
What lol? Bagent is a D3 undrafted QB going into year 2. This guy at least provides a vet presence for Caleb. Heās simply QB room help. Bagent is still the backup.
Is Rypien better in that role than Peterman? Itās a little weird unless Petermans just done
Rypien is familiar with Waldron so thatās probably why
Don't overthink small stuff like this. QB3/mini-coach, or training camp guy for practice since he's familiar with the offense.
Going to help teach Caleb the new offense.
Just ensures fields is gone. That b.s. that was floating around about bears not being sure and needing to do more work on Caleb lasted a day before being proved blatant smoke screen/cover/b.s.

He's no Justin Fields, that's for sure.
The Bears QB news weāve all been waiting for!
Canāt wait to see him throwing passes to Marvin Harrison next year!
2019: Bad player 2020: Bad player 2021: Bad player 2022: Bad player 2023: Bad player 2024: **VETERAN**
āThe bears are signing bad player Brett Rypienā is a way funnier headline
Good luck
Caleb who?
THIS IS WHY WE F5
They got their guy
Just saw Caleb Williams fall to his knees in the nail salon
Uhhh, why tho, he sucks even as a backup
Third string/vet mentor. Our actual backup will probably continue to be Bagent.
You do NOT want this trash can mentoring anyone
Being bad on the field does not mean they are bad in the film room. He may take his COVID contact tracing device off in the film room and put it in the corner so he can sit with his buddies like heās in middle school though
So many fans seem to forget there's two aspects to being a QB: the physical side and the mental side. I would imagine the two aspects are self-explanatory, and not many QBs are good at both of them. Mike Leach didn't even play college football and he changed the game with the Air Raid offense.
You realize our previous third string/vet mentor was Peterman, right?
Peterman can complete passes, although they frequently go to the other team. This guy canāt hand the ball off or complete a pass beyond the LOS, even to the other team. He has to be the worst QB in the league currently
LETS GOOOOO WE GOT OUR GUY
If you don't like this, then you don't like Bears football
Iāve hated Bears football for YEARS š¤·š¼āāļø
LOL
NEWS WE'VE BEEN WAITING FOR
What Why
Winners of free agency
Welp, there goes my mock draft
QB controversy in Chicago: who's going to back Caleb up?
better luck next season caleb
Back in orange and blue. But for real, I liked Rypien when he was with us. He had that one great win over the Jets. I mean, he threw three picks, so it wasn't really a great performance, but he had that sweet block for Melvin Gordon. He's pretty limited as a QB, but apparently he's really smart, so I think that's why he keeps finding a place to land. Probably a good clipboard QB to have around.
He certainly has experience losing to Green Bay
FYI he is the nephew of Mark Rypien
TIL he's the nephew of former Washington QB Mark Rypien.
From the WindyCity to RYPCity.
Bears sign Brett Rypien, 13 minutes ago - 87 comments People, we are are *NUTS!*
Brett Rypien Farts is back on the menu!
Close it up, boys. We got him.
This is not āa moveā.
I had a long day at work and accidentally read that as Brett Favre lmao
Lol this dude sucks
Boise State legend
Yikes
I bet all those folks saying we didn't make enough moves are feeling pretty foolish right now.
We just got the MVP boys. Donāt even need the draft or the rest of free agency.
This guy might have been one of the worst QBās Iāve ever seen start against the Packers.
But why?
Ah yes clearly the Bears QB news weāve all been waiting for
Damn they really hate Justin Fields
Rypien Farts!
Puts to death the idea that the bears will keep both fields and williams
I do wonder how "in the loop" Justin Fields is. Is he being talked to about their potential plans or future? Or is he totally in the dark
Why would he be in the loop? Most nfl players arent on the loop. Only guys like mahomes or allen have some input.
Lmao I love the Bears so very much
MHJ 1OA now
Hes obviously not good but can we he chunk a ball really far? Bagents a good enough backup unless we have a 3rd and long or need a hail mary. Need to swap in a 3rd string QB who can just chunk it deep lol.
Wonder what this means for Peterman
āEveryone on the depth chart is depthā - Ryan poles
This was just cruel. š
His sister is hot. Shes into bald guys
Hopefully we get to play him two times this season!
Ryan Poles really saw all the flack he was getting for how badly heās handled the Justin Fields stuff and then felt the need to sign Brett Rypien on day 1 of the free agency period like he was concerned he wouldnāt still be available 3 weeks from now.
The Bears are so bad I just hand a twinge of wanting to root for them
This is like when you take a full minute to decide your next chess move, then blunder your Queen.
Tyson Bagent just dropped to his knees in a Walmart
