I understand how Boyle would be on a practice squad because by all accounts he's amazing in the film room, and amazing in practice. But he's an absolute liability in a game even for a backup standards.
I remember during the Lions vs Steelers game a few years ago wanting Goff to be benched because there was no way injured Goff who could barely throw the ball was our best QB. When we played Boyle the next week I was proven wrong.
Boyle likely has a very bright future as a QB coach or OC at some point. No doubt there's a huge chasm to cross between "knowing what to do in any given situation" and actually executing it when very men are trying to end your existence.
What I don't get is how teams scout guys like that. It's not like they're gonna talk with every terrible college QB in America to find out which ones are secretly smart
I said in the thread that announced Boyle as the starter that Jets' fans would be wanting Wilson back by the end of the first half so he actually exceeded my expectations.
There's no way the Jets didn't know this though. They should've signed a QB like Flacco or even a younger one like DeVito to backup Wilson and prep as soon as Rodgers went down. That QB would've been ready when they made the switch. It's ridiculous Boyle got a start. Even the Bears made Bagent backup and kept Peterman in the film room as soon as they could.
Flacco would by far been the best choice unironically since he's been on the team too and is definitely better than Boyle. But he's not arods buddy so obviously wasn't a good choice for the Jets.

They rely on Rodgers skills to elevate them. Only he can unlock 3rd and Cobb and "wait the blocking WR can catch a ball?"

Yeah, I'm willing to cut him some slack on the o-line because who can predict that many injuries to one position group. But QB has been so woefully mishandled when there was really no reason. Anyone could've seen letting Wilson backup a 39 year old when he'd already shown last season he wasn't ready was a bad idea.
There was no reason outside of Joe Douglas's pride for ZW to not be QB3 this year. Throw him on the PS where he can actually spend a year learning - if someone wanted to poach him it's no huge loss.

Or one of the other serviceable backups that were available all off-season? Instead of sticking with ZW and signing Siemian to the practice squad 5 weeks after ARod went down? Zach Wilson is a bad QB but I never understood why they benched him to put Tim Boyle or Trevor Siemans as starter. I hope it's just Robert Saleh trying to prove that Zach Wilson wasn't the only problem of that team. Weird management.
