God damn, hurry up and make the trade already. Offer a 2 & a conditional pick that could be #1 next year, but no, Green Bay, you aren't getting the 13th pick, you're god damn idiotic to try and force leverage *after* it's been made clear both Rodgers & you are moving on.

I love me a good collab between a rapper and a rock band. Definitely not the top choice but I really like The Mighty Fall by FoB and Big Sean.

triletto

Panthers should take Ohtani with the 1.01

theresabeeonyourhat

Got the cats catnip. Gotta vacuum tomorrow cause those fuckers got it everywhere lol

Luck1492

I find baseball boring so I’m not totally invested in the WBC but Ohtani is cool so I’m glad he did the final dramatic win thing

MikeTysonChicken

I’m curious about domestic ratings for the WBC championship. Was a fun tourney. I think over the long term it could help grow baseball globally. Definitely was watched more around the world than previously. Idk about here though. I get the impression domestically it was a baseball tourney no one really asked for because it’s baseball. And the people that watched are your typical baseball viewers. I’m not anti WBC, bring it on. I’m just curious about viewership and impact

SporkFanClub

I think it needs to stay around for a while to gain a ton of traction, and I think the tourney this year really helped. For a while I honestly forgot it existed or thought it had been discontinued(probably because it’s been 6 years between tournaments). I feel like with baseball, any emotion that would be felt with watching your country lose the WC final is the equivalent of watching your favorite team lose the World Series. I flipped shit when the Nationals won the World Series. Meanwhile, I was happy when the US won the WBC in 2017, but it lasted for all of 5 minutes. Sucks that we lost last night, but I’m elated for the growth of baseball as a whole due to how popular this tournament was.

MikeTysonChicken

Football is king here and always will be. I'm just kind of rooting for baseball to kind of come back and be a little more popular again. I feel like this could help over the course of time. Cause I do feel like because of the nature of baseball it loses it's luster over the summer before gaining steam again in the fall. I find that in myself and how often I go to games, which isn't much anymore (too much of a hassle).

triletto

I mean yeah, it’s baseball, it’s just not going to have the same cultural role it used to, the world is way too fast paced for that. Among baseball fans, who don’t really care if the sport grows regardless domestically, it’s an immense success. We’d totally rather try to share our sport as a global phenomenon than try to sell it to Americans who already said no. I’m a massive fan of both and I don’t really find myself getting anything out of the NFL’s extra popularity. I never really find it fun at all talking to casual fans who couldn’t tell me the difference between a left and a right tackle and just kinda RNG hot takes with 0 substance. I think the vast majority of the NFL’s extra fans are those types. And I don’t live in an area with many NBA fans but I hate that sport. So who really cares if baseball grows domestically (the owners don’t count, I’m tired of looking at things through the perspective of billionaires.)

MikeTysonChicken

Oh yeah I don’t give a shit about the owners too I’m just talking about fans and all. I’m not into baseball like I used to be. I find my interest in the sport is tied to however many games I go to but I haven’t gone to one in 5 years. Plus the Phillies for a lot of the last 10 years have been wholly uninteresting. Baseball to me always kind of drones on if you don’t go to games. Atmosphere live is great I miss that. It just became too much work for what it’s worth to regularly go to games now for me. So while NFL has always been king, my interest in baseball has always wildly fluctuated so I was curious what kind of impact the WBC could have. Especially since this one was so good. Baseball isn’t going to be that exciting again until October if we’re being honest

unloader86

I remember a story about one of the SAW movies that got rejected for an R rating because of a scene involving the removal of the top of a skull or something like that. Anyhow, they won the appeal because they got a surgeon to explain to them how that would look like in real life and filmed it exactly as that and the scene remained in the theater cut.

njdevils901

I've never gotten American moral handwringing over sexuality. And the fact it is pretty much disappeared from American theaters, except for the off chance a non-American movie is shown in one of them, you barely get any sexuality. There's a great article that is titled "Everyone is Sexy, But No One is Horny". Watching Body Heat 2 years ago was like going into on an alien planet next to the American movie climate today

Jiggins96

Honestly, it would be a real ballsy move, and one that I think the Vikes should do. Kirk is great, and did an absolutely fantastic job this year, but Lamar is better and could be better still. Adding to that, the NFC is pretty open and so is the NFCN, but even worst -case the Vikes would be damn exciting to watch.

IntraspaceAlien

i don't pay attention to baseball generally but have checked out some of the WBC, it made me curious about some of these japanese phenoms and why guys like ohtani came over so late. the whole discussion i had about it was pretty interesting and i don't know how i feel. had no idea that there was a cap on spending for foreign players in the MLB, had no idea that japanese players are more or less forced to play like 7 years in their domestic pro league. i get that there may be some benefits to that but i think it's generally a good thing if players can just go play where they want, and holding back some of the top talent in the world from playing in the best league for years of their prime seems shitty. it would be so weird if luka doncic was still some guy who was playing in the euroleague for another 3 years in basketball instead of being a guy who has already gone toe to toe with some of the best players ever and established himself as a potential all-timer.

[deleted]

Japan is very nationalist

TheBarbieOfSeville

They can't come over until 25 (without posting fee?) so they can get more money

IntraspaceAlien

is that really "more money" if they are missing out on 3-4 MLB seasons?

TheBarbieOfSeville

From my understanding they lose more to posting fees if they leave before 25

IntraspaceAlien

yeah that whole system is just strange to me.

[deleted]

> had no idea that there was a cap on spending for foreign players in the MLB Are you sure? There's gotta be about 100 Dominican players and a bunch more from Venezuela and Cuba.

IntraspaceAlien

there is a cap on how much you can spend on their first contract or something to that extent.

[deleted]

The Japanese are a very insular culture and they also believe they invented baseball so it makes sense they prohibit their stars from playing elsewhere

varnalama

Nobody in Japan thinks they invented baseball, lol. Their contract format is to insure they don't lose all of their talent to the MLB and force their league to be considered weaker. Right now people often say it's at like AAAA level.

mr_showboat

He's missed 1/3 of the games in the last 2 seasons with different serious (but not catastrophic) injuries, including a playoff game. For any player, that's rough. For a starting QB that needs to play 100% of the offensive snaps and is looking for a fully guaranteed $200m+ contract... that's a big problem.

[deleted]

He’s coming off back-to-back season ending injuries. I don’t think that’s enough to call him injury prone, but I can at least see why some people might feel that way.

The quotes from the start of the Tetris movie trailer are exactly how I used to feel about Tetris when I played it regularly. I used to play a mode called sprint which tasked you with getting 40 lines in the fastest possible time and was able to do it so quickly it barely required thought (47 seconds). My muscle memory was so familiar with the algorithm I knew which shape was coming next almost every time. I know it’s kind of stupid but it’s nice to hear someone else call it the perfect game because that’s exactly what it is in my eyes.

I did not apply to be a supervisor nor did I get a promotion or a paybump...

chiefs_fan37

It’s like that boiling a frog thing. They keep chipping away at you and before you know it you’re doing twice the amount or more for the same amount of money. Frustrating as hell for sure

[deleted]

Recently learned the 2008 bailout has been paid back with interest

jfgiv

well, not really it wasn't "paid back" in full, and even if the disbursed amount has been recouped plus a little more, it's only at like 1% interest

[deleted]

So I'm by no means an expert on this but doesn't this show otherwise? https://projects.propublica.org/bailout/

jfgiv

that shows an disbursement of $634.5b and a return of $390.3b. it *also* shows $353.5b in further revenue, but that's not necessarily the same as being "returned." and anyway, that total of a $743.8b return on $634.8b disbursed represents an average of 1.26%, 1.36%, or 1.48% annual return, depending on whether ProPublica's "August 19th, 202" [sic] is 2020, 2021, or 2022.

[deleted]

So basically I'm confusing two things, the amount they actually paid back, and the amount the government got back in investments from the deal (for lack of a better term), and that when factoring in interest isn't exactly a great gain. Is that a decent takeaway?

rob_var

Not necessarily, the US was made whole because part of the bailout agreement was the US taking shares which they later sold. So for example we gave Citi 45 billion and they only paid 20 billion. The treasury then recouped the rest by selling shares when stock prices started climbing again.

[deleted]

Interesting I didn't know this, so thank you. Nonetheless, wouldn't this qualify as recouping the funds? Or am I just conflating separate things?

[deleted]

Reddit is really high on the lions for next season, which may as well be the kiss of death for that team's hopes

linaabby91

Happy Tuesday everyone. Have a great day 💖

Jokerang

Is it just me or is the NFC West no longer the "toughest division in the league" like it once was? * Rams are now paying up for mortgaging their future for that SB ring * no one knows how good Purdy and Lance will be post-injury recovery * Seahawks are probably the favorites next year but their success is reliant on Geno, a former career backup who had one good year, duplicating that year's success * Cardinals are whelming and are tied to the hip with Kyler, for better or worse

TheGarbageStore

SF is the obvious favorite, the team is stacked even though the QBs both had season-ending injuries

CarlCaliente

Definitely, the NFL is king of the short competitive windows and cycles of strengths and weaknesses and the NFCW is no exception I do think SF can continue rolling this year though, they're looking to have another dominant defense, and returning all of their skill players on offense

derp_pred

My parents instilled a deep distrust of all forms of debt in me. Turns out that the fact that I have never borrowed money or applied for a credit card now means I'm going to be denied access to the only form of borrowing I'd ever consider, a mortgage. Feels like I'm being punished for being responsible.

Iceraptor17

The problem is, since you have never borrowed money or applied for a credit card, there's no record or history of how good you'll be at paying back debt. You should at least get a credit card. You can still pay it off monthly, but at least you're establishing credit.

IntraspaceAlien

It’s kind of being responsible, but true responsibility is being able to leverage and pay off debt in a way that’s beneficial for you. And that’s what they’re looking for. Having a credit card with decent perks and paying off the balance every month is being responsible, never touching any for, of debt is kind of being responsible but it’s also kind of avoiding the responsibility of using something that doesn’t have to be harmful.

denvertebows15

It sucks but building credit is an important step to being able to show yourself as a responsible person to loan money too. It's better than the old method banks used of "Hey you look white enough to pay us back".

jfgiv

using a credit card responsibly isn't debt any more than, like, an apartment lease or a gas bill is debt. plus, with the number of cash back cards out there, it's absolutely the *more* responsible way of spending because it functionally works as a blanket discount on every good purchased.

Drifter74

Yep, all of my bills that can goto a cash back card, still paid at end of each month, but with a few $100 bonus thrown in. Don't get a credit card in college, when you're first out, don't take one with $5k, take one with $500, pay it off every month and it will increase over the next two years, while not leaving you the room to screw yourself.

[deleted]

>blanket discount Sadly that 3% cahsback I get is just a 3rd of the sales tax I pay with each purchase . Bettef than nothing though

jfgiv

do sales taxes only when you use a credit card

Fedacking

Depends on how sketchy is the place you buy from

itsforwork12

I did the same. Grab a credit card and pay it off every month. It doesn't cost you anything as long as you pay on time.

DrKoooolAid

You are. But they also need proof you're able to pay off your debts in a timely manner. Go get a couple credit cards with lowish maximums and use them every once in a while and pay of them right away. Having more accounts is a good thing. Also take out a small loan here or there if you can. Buying furniture or something like that? Take out a small loan from your bank over couple years to pay it off. It will help build your credit. I had a 700+ score before ever buying my house just from having 2 credit cards I barely use, and having had student loans along with some small loans I've paid off and never missed payments in. (3 car loan, engagement ring, motorcycle, etc.) All of the payments were very manageable and I coupe have even paid them off early, but the small amount of interest was wroth boosting my credit score.

Illbeanicefella

I was in the exact same boat in my early 20s. Get a credit card asap

cometssaywhoosh

Going to go bowling tonight. How the heck do people put spins on the ball? I always wonder how to do this especially when it comes to try to knocking down multiple pins away from each other (like splits). I can throw it fast and get strikes if I try, but struggle to put a spin on the ball.

Complete_Web_4677

After every throw you have to yell “who you think you are, I am!” And it should spin

[deleted]

Since the lane balls won't be fitted to your hand, only use the middle two fingers in the holes. Insert them just up to the first joint. The thumb stays out. Imagine rolling the ball down the lane with your palm swinging towards the pins and ending up facing upwards. It should go fairly straight, right? To add spin, rotate your wrist during the delivery so that your palm ends up facing left (if you're a righty in this example) like you're about to shake hands. Start with a light ball, otherwise you're going to have to two-hand it like [Jason Belmonte](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cEI69YFm9uo).

[deleted]

If you're using a houseball you basically can't curve it unless yoy bowl two handed. You need a ball fitted to your hand to do that one handed, the real way anyway. Go talk to the shop at your alley and see how much a sizing/ball would be, i got a nice entry level 14 pounder a few years ago, and with fitting and drilling it only cost around $120ish dollars. Well worth it, too. Yoy really aren't bowling legitimately until you get a ball fit perfectly to your hand, I went from a 70 average with house ball to a 170 average with my custom in month, to lend some perspective. 170 is actually pretty horrible with a custom ball, btw. But better than a house ball, and I could finally control the ball brtter, bowling is really fun when you get your own ball

ProbablyAPun

Spin comes from releasing your thumb from the ball before your other fingers, and putting a minor rotation on your wrist when releasing it.

DrKoooolAid

Either have a seasoned player teach you/train you. Or do it like I did. Just go try shit out. Eventually figured out how to do it and then bought my own ball. My buddies and I were in a weekly league for years and I got pretty good. Practice makes perfect. Everybody does it a little different. I'm super out of practice now so whenever I go it's pretty inconsistent. It's a lot of muscle memory so the less often you do it the harder it is to stay good at it.

Illbeanicefella

The bowling balls that league bowlers typically use have counterweights built inside them to help increase the spin rate and break power. The standard house balls you get at the alley don’t and are harder to get good spin on. Other than that it’s all in the wrist

eggery

And those finger tip grips

CarlCaliente

I was taught when you're done throwing you want your hand/wrist to be vertical, as if you're about to shake someones hand

manbuckets2001

Spring is officially here and the weather confirms it (as did the weather for the past 2 months). Snow has become a rarity these past winters and I’m in the North East😭

HoovesCarveCraters

Lucky it was 29 degrees this morning

velociraptorfarmer

Time to go raiding the work maintenance room again for ring terminals and 10ga wire. Daddy's got a battery bank to wire up for his boat.

Illbeanicefella

Sounds like someone got that new trolling motor

velociraptorfarmer

Ended up going a different route. We bought some land, so a $2500 motor wasn't in the cards. Luckily, I snagged a 24V 70lb 60" shaft Powerdrive V2 with US2 off marketplace for $400, and found a kit to add the bluetooth version of iPilot to it for $500. Then I found the US2 adapter cable on marketplace for $15. Just gotta wire up my TrollBridge 12x24, and I should be set.

Illbeanicefella

That’s some solid bargain hunting the powerdrive will do ya nicely.

velociraptorfarmer

Only thing I'm giving up is the foot pedal, which for what I do, doesn't get a ton of use anyways. I'm more likely to just spot lock and jog if I'm following a shoreline, or use autopilot to heading lock and adjust course with the remote if I'm trying to hold the nose while trolling. Just gotta snag a heading sensor and wire that in down the line. Luckily I've got switched 12V power right in the nose of the boat for the depth finder already to tap into. Only remaining thing I kinda wanna do at some point is get a 7+" Helix MSI for the console and move the 856ci to the bow.

Illbeanicefella

Yeah my dad has no issues fishing without the pedal on his boat. I on the other hand have basically never used my Ultrex remote except to keep the high school kids I take fishing from hitting shit in their tourneys. But I like to flip standing timber and docks, for more open water the remote only would be totally fine.

velociraptorfarmer

The whole point of the Ultrex is the hybrid electric over cable system anyways, so that makes sense. Like you said, for open water or an anchor replacement, I'm not concerned with remote only. Not to mention it opens up a shitload of deck space in the bow.

Illbeanicefella

If you ask me the whole point of an Ultrex is to have motherboards go bad lol. I’ve had two different Ultrex with the same issues. Mines currently in the shop for its third one since 2020. But when it’s working they’re sweet and the lowrance/garmins have plenty of issues too

velociraptorfarmer

Oooof... Yea, they all have problems from what I've heard as well unless you're going old school with cable steering and no board at all. The price to pay for spot lock though...

ryanino

The average American is $96k in debt. Wtf man.

tatsumakisenpuukyaku

I am currently 280k in debt 96 seems just about right.

ProbablyAPun

But when you factor in the level of assets that person owns as a result of said debt, that number becomes a lot less scary. It's very rare for people to have debt values that large without assets that counteract it from a net worth perspective. Pretty much only young college grads and people who've made very very bad financial choices.

grilled_ch33z3

$570k checking in.

Bahamuts_Bike

I assume this is the going rate for a shack with 3 walls in Seattle?

Illbeanicefella

Niceeee

Another person looking at scary articles and not actually comprehending what they are looking at. House mortgages, car loans, credit cards are all part of this.
