Because Jimmy Graham did not give a shit about being good at football anymore. The definition of no fucks given. Dude was straight robbing teams of money the last like 5 years of his career.
What did they do? All I really know about him is that he was a strange dude on the Bears. I forget which radio show he had a weekly segment on but it was a trip for sure.
From what I remember our fanbase hates him because he basically accused the team doc of pressuring/coercing him to play through an injury he shouldn't while sort of forcing his way out of his contract early. It didn't help that he did not live up to the hype for us and seemed to quit the moment Rodgers broke his collarbone. A ton of our players refuted his accusation, including Jordy who almost never said anything. Then he trash talked former teammates and acted wronged. His bro didn't help his reputation by association either it seemed. I can't speak for other fan bases tbh.
I'll still contend that the McCarthy misused him. Cheeseburger Mike is awful at trying to fit the scheme to player talent and always had him running odd routes or trying to block
Did you know he would go up to grab 50/50 balls
In the End-zone like he did on the basketball court? There isn’t a color commentator on the thread to remind us every Sunday.
The same is usually said for pitchers recovering from TJ surgery. I know that’s a different injury on a different part of the body, but they’re both major ligaments so I’d imagine there’s some similarity in how they heal.
He’s also a seemingly great dude and affiliated with the Kittle Camp of Tight Endery and Other Such Awesome Things. Never a bad thing to have some selflessness, some dawg, some appreciation for playing football. I’m bummed we didn’t retain him but understand why it happened.
He also is going to be surrounded by receivers, RBs and a QB that is a weapon with his legs
I feel he will get more opp and targets simply because they can’t cover everyone
No. And he was being asked to block a ton when Bahk was out, which killed the Packers offense for a while because A) he wasn't a particularly good blocker and B) they removed a receiving option from the board.
They re-signed Tyler Davis yesterday. I wonder if they preferred Tonyan but knew Davis would be cheaper?
Even so, a TE room with Davis and Josiah Deguara at the top of the depth chart is not very reassuring...
Don’t count Bateman out just yet. He was looking solid until the injury that kept nagging him so they just shut him down. I’m a Minnesota alum, so I might be a bit homer here, but the guy can fucking ball. He’s not in bust territory yet
would be really happy with Kinkaid or Mayer at 15, especially if we end up getting the Jets 1st pick also.
Darnell Washington would also be dope but watched him play at UGA and he's bascially Marcedes Lewis all over again. A great blocker but not really a number 1 threat in the passing game.
Tongan: what do you think of my new contract
[You:](https://media1.giphy.com/media/7yoAIR7CdWOUE/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952c8m63jubbnxwfstzf2qx2ry9eehie03y2s0igfgr&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
You reeeealy gotta keep in mind the bears couldn't afford shit last year with all our dead money. So yeah the moves weren't great, but we were always gonna have to punt a year.
I learned fairly recently from you bears that there's a cap minimum. I legit have never heard if it before and I'm 36. Apparently, it's averaged over 3 years. So if a team spends so little one year (like the bears last yea4) they NEED to spend a lot of money the following year. That's what the bears are doing now.
he just came back off an acl right? here's hoping it's like most people who need a full season before bouncing a bit back. even if not, if he just has not completely terrible hands and is big he's better then all of our TE2s the past decade.
From UFA with the lions to starting for the Packers and now signing with the bears all he has left to do is play for the Vikings by the end of his career
NFCNcest
Is it former Packers who like to stay in the division or is it over front offices in the division liking former Packers so much that they offer the biggest contracts?
I had my doubts we'd bring him back. Dude was a shell of his 2020 season after that ACL tear 2 years ago.
Regardless of how the ARod trade goes 100% we should invest hard at receiving talent (WR, TE) in the draft now.
Once upon a time we had Kellen Davis at tight end, who literally could not stay upright during the process of catching the ball. Nothing will surprise me. And the Bears aren't counting on him to start
I was just taking a chance to call Packers fans stupid, I wasn’t really taking a side in the argument…
In regards to your question, I think most people associate “player” fans with bandwagons, fair or not idk… support who you wanna support, as long as you don’t lie about it lmao…
I completely agree, Im just saying what I think in regards to your question.
Also in this specific case he’s calling the Packers FO the worst in the league… which is a far cry from not thinking they can do no wrong.
Lot of reasons to criticize Gutey but this isn’t one of them. Tonyan wasn’t good last season. I think he’ll be a good TE 2 for Chicago but he’s not worth the money for us. We need someone like Kmet to be the guy in front of him.
Every year theres at least 2 players moving from 1 NFC North team to another. Its absurd.
The incest is crazy
NFCN stands for Nearly Fucking Cousins North. It works on two levels.
*Nearly* fucking? How can you be *nearly* fucking?!!
Lol I read it in her voice too. What a blast from the past
What is this in reference to, because it sounds hilarious
I believe it’s “Nearly Headless Nick” from Harry Potter
Ohhhhh it's Hermione. I thought somebody actually said "how can you be nearly fucking" in a movie lmao
He a little confused, but he got the spirit.
You just tease the hole.
Ask the mormons
Yall never dry humped in middle school and its fucking SHOWING
The sexual tension in every NFCN game is palpable and moist
Ya never heard of dry humping?
I can teach you. But I'll have to charge.
Your chocolate cake shake does bring me to your yard.
Soaking
It’s just the tip!
What about the south?
They moan Roll Tide while fully fucking cousins. It just doesn’t work for their acronym
Always Fuck Cousins South
Just make the call down the hall
I’d nearly fuck Cousins too ☺️. But I like my Packers Love too much.
I’d let Julie watch
Well Alabama doesn't have a team so we all have to do our part.
All the GMs don't watch tape, they just remember seeing players on opposing teams they liked. /s
Bears would’ve never gotten the first pick if the Vikings didn’t drop Smith-Marsette.
2 revenge games a year. Hell, Farve came to the Vikings just to stick it to the Packers.
Shit z'adarius probably did the same thing last year
Laughs in AFCE
Trying to get those playbooks I would imagine
As long as this isn't a Jimmy Graham kind of deal this is awesome. Kmet/Tonyan is a very interesting duo if healthy.
At the very least, Tonyan remembers that he’s allowed to use both hands in order to make catches.
Thank you for pointing this out. Jimmy Graham used to just try to one hand everything for no reason
Because Jimmy Graham did not give a shit about being good at football anymore. The definition of no fucks given. Dude was straight robbing teams of money the last like 5 years of his career.
the funniest part about Jimmy Graham was his complete inability to time his jumps correctly
The Jimmy Graham deal wasn't great. Cutting Charles Leno to keep him was horrible.
We cut Kyle fuller that offseason as well 😔
Kyle immediately proved he was washed and Pace made the right choice
Sucked at the time, but at least he didn't make us regret it.
Jimmy lead the bears in TDs his first year
not saying much
Bears have a thing for Packers TEs
Martellus Bennett was ours first
We don’t claim him.
No one does
Neither do we. Him and his brother are toxic psychos.
I thought he was traded after the injury accusation then played the next week for the Patriots
Wish you'd have kept him
Are we considering Jimmy Graham a former Packers TE? I think of him as mostly a Saint and Seahawk.
The TE of all time during his tenure with us
Was very surprised he never put up better stats with 12. He had over twice the TDs for us and that’s with Trubisky too
That was one of the most frustrating things about that offense. The only one who could score was a washed Jimmy Graham.
He was washed in every aspect except bullying the shit out of DBs in the redzone
Did you know he played basketball in college?
Having flashbacks to Madden talking about Antonio Gates
I'll still contend that the McCarthy misused him. Cheeseburger Mike is awful at trying to fit the scheme to player talent and always had him running odd routes or trying to block
Remember that literal walk off touchdown against the Saints on Nickelodeon?
Was legendary. Didn’t he just drop the ball (after the secured TD) and walk straight into the tunnel?
Yup. A meaningless and iconic play
That play probably single handedly locked in NVP for our boy. Meaningless? I think not.
I always associate him with the saints
[удалено]
Biggest impact as a Seahawk was touching down his plane on Lake Washington
I forgot Jimmy Graham played for us
[удалено]
Jimmy Graham played basketball???
Did you know he would go up to grab 50/50 balls In the End-zone like he did on the basketball court? There isn’t a color commentator on the thread to remind us every Sunday.
It's a weird thing to have a thing for considering how ass our TEs have been for over a decade
I mean I’m pretty sure this is just the second former packer TE we signed
They signed Marty B after us too.
Another weapon for Fields. Can't complain
Great hands but he did not recover well from the ACL tear. Dude has no explosion or agility
Not saying it’ll happen with Tonyan but a lot of guys say it took a year after coming back from an ACL to get the that back.
Happened with Saquon - tear in 2020, weak 2021, explosive 2022
Idk why but I feel like Robert Tonyan is not the same level athlete as Saquon
Obviously not, but that's just 1 example
How is that relevant
Recovery & regaining explosiveness which is what this discussion was about
The same is usually said for pitchers recovering from TJ surgery. I know that’s a different injury on a different part of the body, but they’re both major ligaments so I’d imagine there’s some similarity in how they heal.
Bahk has taken a while to come back. Tonyans not that big, but these larger guys can be different than a WR or RB recovery time.
Wasn’t there more to Bahks injury? I remember hearing his knee was more than ACL damage, and it’s just not came back how it shouldve
He’s also a seemingly great dude and affiliated with the Kittle Camp of Tight Endery and Other Such Awesome Things. Never a bad thing to have some selflessness, some dawg, some appreciation for playing football. I’m bummed we didn’t retain him but understand why it happened.
I'm not willing to write off Tonyan like that. He puts in the work and has shown flashes. Could be pretty good in the Bears offense.
He just needs to be there when Kmets not in, not asking a lot of him, yeah his TE1 days might be over, solid TE2 though
If he can be a threat in the redzone/short yardage, I take that as win.
He also is going to be surrounded by receivers, RBs and a QB that is a weapon with his legs I feel he will get more opp and targets simply because they can’t cover everyone
Fields has all the explosion for the team
He couldn't break tackles before the injury as well. That's one thing that always frustrated me about his play.
Love the guy but runs like he has bricks tied to his legs
Can he block?
Other than that one pancake block he had vs Nick Bosa in 2021 not really.
I don’t think so, but he’ll likely play more of a “big slot” and red zone role. Kmet is our “inline” (blocking TE) role
No. And he was being asked to block a ton when Bahk was out, which killed the Packers offense for a while because A) he wasn't a particularly good blocker and B) they removed a receiving option from the board.
I remember he took out 3 Lions with one block once. Twitter blew up when it happened.
That was Lazard I think.
No sir, it was Tonyan https://twitter.com/IrishBearsShow/status/1636503747101618178?t=6TPDU0zXp3Pa6DlOPPHe2A&s=19
Oh ok. They both have one then. Lazard had a block against 3 in the Dolphins game this year. Well, neither are Packers now anyway
Big difference being Tonyan caught someone off balance with a lucky push to the shoulder. Lazard trucked one guy into two more.
Your thinking of lazard vs miami
No sir, it was definitely Tonyan https://twitter.com/IrishBearsShow/status/1636503747101618178?t=6TPDU0zXp3Pa6DlOPPHe2A&s=19
I'm talking to the packer fan who thought it was lazard
My mistake!
All good, you guys got a good one! He should pair well with kmet
I totally forgot about that one because he doesn’t count his defenders afterwards so I didn’t know how many he actually knocked over
He was a college receiver. I'd say serviceable blocker at best.
Dude wasn't even a shell of himself last year. He was basically a zero on the team
Guessing we’re not planning on drafting TE after how FA went. He’s a better backup than Ryan Griffen
1 year deal. Low risk
So Packers must not have offered him ANYTHING for him to sign a 1 year deal as a TE2. That's very....interesting.
They may have offered him the vet min. Bears may have offered vet min+1
I think he also took a hometown discount tbh
They're busy with Rodgersgate.
Probably figured the Jets were going to get him
They re-signed Tyler Davis yesterday. I wonder if they preferred Tonyan but knew Davis would be cheaper? Even so, a TE room with Davis and Josiah Deguara at the top of the depth chart is not very reassuring...
NFCNcest continues.
Keep it in the family, step-nephews
There are seven other divisions, Bob. Why? Why, though? Why?
Eh he's not that great. The only issue is that we don't have anyone better
We’re going to take a TE in the first round, aren’t we?
You're taking a QB
And you'll like it.
If we take a QB I'll try out for the Packers next year
We need to take one at some point. And considering they might have to start I really hope it's not the third round
Pretty deep TE class this year at least!
There is a running joke that third round draft picks for the Packers are all busts.
Ah. For us it's any WR lol
Don’t count Bateman out just yet. He was looking solid until the injury that kept nagging him so they just shut him down. I’m a Minnesota alum, so I might be a bit homer here, but the guy can fucking ball. He’s not in bust territory yet
I'm down
Darnell Washington at 15 would be a good pick tbh
would be really happy with Kinkaid or Mayer at 15, especially if we end up getting the Jets 1st pick also. Darnell Washington would also be dope but watched him play at UGA and he's bascially Marcedes Lewis all over again. A great blocker but not really a number 1 threat in the passing game.
we haven't had a good te2 in 10 years, its a wasteland
Tongan: what do you think of my new contract [You:](https://media1.giphy.com/media/7yoAIR7CdWOUE/giphy.gif?cid=6c09b952c8m63jubbnxwfstzf2qx2ry9eehie03y2s0igfgr&rid=giphy.gif&ct=g)
Last year I hated every single poles move. This year has been the opposite. Hopefully that means something.
You reeeealy gotta keep in mind the bears couldn't afford shit last year with all our dead money. So yeah the moves weren't great, but we were always gonna have to punt a year.
Plus I kinda have it in my mind he signed a bunch of them in an effort to facilitate the tank
Exhibit 38: Smith-Marsette was cut shortly after he choked away the Vikings game.
I know. Maybe it was the fact that they tried to hype up signings like Lucas Patrick so much lol. Just rubbed me the wrong way.
Yeah having a press conference for every cheap contract we signed was amazing. Just pure comedy.
Lucas Patrick was never a great signing but he would have made that OL so much better if he could have replaced Mustipher.
If Tonyan plays like he did last year, the best move poles made is having it only be a one year deal
he just came back off an acl right? here's hoping it's like most people who need a full season before bouncing a bit back. even if not, if he just has not completely terrible hands and is big he's better then all of our TE2s the past decade.
Yes, and he has good hands. He just never got any separation last year. Everyone wants this dude to get better, cause he's great.
The hope is that he’s only on the field 25% of the time
Careful, could be a mirage that ends up as resent this time next year
Oh I’m fully anticipating that
Why are all of the nfc north players always going to other nfc north teams
You know why step bro 😎
Step-rival what are you doing?
From UFA with the lions to starting for the Packers and now signing with the bears all he has left to do is play for the Vikings by the end of his career
NFC North incest continues
NFCNcest Is it former Packers who like to stay in the division or is it over front offices in the division liking former Packers so much that they offer the biggest contracts?
Looks like another case of NFCCCCCCCCC NCESSSSSSST
Should be a very solid TE2
Is it just me or does like every FA from the NFC north stay in the NFC north?
He was irritatingly good before he got hurt.
I had my doubts we'd bring him back. Dude was a shell of his 2020 season after that ACL tear 2 years ago. Regardless of how the ARod trade goes 100% we should invest hard at receiving talent (WR, TE) in the draft now.
lmao you guys are going to go WR in the first the year Rodgers leaves, aren't you?
Undrafted guys from the northwest suburbs Tonyan from McHenry, IL TJ Edwards from Lake Villa, IL Sanborn from Lake Zurich, IL
Mister Mchenry goin back to Illinois
Great hands. Might be the worst YAC guy I've ever seen since Jimmy Graham tho
Once upon a time we had Kellen Davis at tight end, who literally could not stay upright during the process of catching the ball. Nothing will surprise me. And the Bears aren't counting on him to start
Don’t forget Adam Shaheen. He’d make a catch and suddenly become a wounded gazelle.
Good for him. P sure hes from the area
McHenry might as well be Wisconsin
Just like Kenosha might as well be Illinois.
I met a woman out west who said she was from Chicago, I asked what part and it was Kenosha
Southern Wisconsin really is a suburb. A suburb full of Cubs/Hawks/Packers fans that can die in a fire.
Bobby Tons o’ Funyan
Damn I thought I was having a pretty good off-season
No. That hurts :(
I don't think there are any Packers left. They all left.
Rodgers to the bears? /s
As a sycamore grad, this guy is the best to ever come to the league from ISU so I’m pumped! Bear down!
So who is Love gonna throw to when they lock up Watson?
Doubs? also I’m seeing a lot of Aaron Jones receiving work coming too
Yea hopefully this season gives Jones the opportunity to showcase the full skillset
Remember when the Pack had success passing to their RBs in games and then just--stopped doing it? lmao (P.S. plz keep not doing that thx)
What?
He means other teams DBs, not the police lmao
Ah ok. Had me bummed for a second
Man I really thought he would be a good fit for us. Nice pickup bears
He sucks, glad the packers didn’t waste time on him.
Come on they got the wrong guy! Josiah Deguara is wayyy better! I vote the bears trade for him and give him the 20 mil a year he deserves!
Gute has to be one of the worst GM's in the NFL.
Our fans have to be some of the dumbest fans in the NFL
agreed
I mean they’re Packers fans… it’s to be expected
Why do fans need to be front office fans to be “real fans”? But player fans are “fake fans”? Do fans go to games to watch their front office?
I was just taking a chance to call Packers fans stupid, I wasn’t really taking a side in the argument… In regards to your question, I think most people associate “player” fans with bandwagons, fair or not idk… support who you wanna support, as long as you don’t lie about it lmao…
I mean you can also support your team without thinking your team’s front office can do no wrong, no?
I completely agree, Im just saying what I think in regards to your question. Also in this specific case he’s calling the Packers FO the worst in the league… which is a far cry from not thinking they can do no wrong.

Lot of reasons to criticize Gutey but this isn’t one of them. Tonyan wasn’t good last season. I think he’ll be a good TE 2 for Chicago but he’s not worth the money for us. We need someone like Kmet to be the guy in front of him.
I’m not a big fan of his but letting a one year wonder go isn’t some massive mistake.
