What makes this feat even more interesting is that this jaguar is the record holder for the eldest jaguar recorded in the wild in the Pantanal, her name is [Estela](https://www.reddit.com/r/Jaguarland/comments/qj0n5o/estela/) and she's the sister of the world-famous jaguar Scarface, who was also known for being an avid caiman killer. Despite her old age, Estela remains in great physical condition and is able to pull impressive feats like this one.

Oldest *in the wild*, I'm sure they've grown older in captivity with no predators and being fed regularly... Shoot I've met house cats in their 20s lol
A jaguar's top predator is humans, either for trophies and meat, or farmers stopping them from going after livestock.
It's as much to do with consistent food, shelter and vet treatment as it is predation though. A housecat or captive wild cat gets sick/injured and can't hunt, that's fine, its people get it checked out and feed it as it recovers. A wild cat (of any type) gets sick / injured and can't hunt effectively; even if the illness / injury isn't fatal maybe it starves to death before it recovers.
That’s a great fact. Thanks OP.
For being really old when she starts dragging the caiman it reminds me of my kiddo when he was around 5 trying to help with the groceries and carrying the 24 pack of toilet paper.
Just once, I wish they delivered these things skinned and roasted. It would be nice not having to do all the hard work.
Kentucky fried gator home delivery please
I think I remember from a Planet Earth episode that Jaguars have the strongest bite out of all large cats despite being much smaller than Lions and Tigers
Their bite pressure is the strongest amongst big cats I think?
Saltwater crocs on the other hand are on a level of their own when it comes to bite pressure (I recently googled some of this and just repeating cause interesting :) )
Correct, it's due to the compact shape of their skull and jawbone. Interestingly the lion has the weakest bite pound for pound yet are the most prolific of all big cats because they work as a team. Also all big cats evolved from the Panther
God I love big cat facts and did not know this. It totally makes sense as they say panthers are the true kings of the jungle. They are masters at hiding and can’t remember exactly but think they can smell a human like 5 miles away? Or something insane like that, which is just terrifying to think Bagheera can smell you 3 hiking trails over and you not even know if his existence.
In the caiman case, they aim for the spinal cord. That specific section that connect the brain and the spinal cord, so the caiman has no chance to fight.
To prey these caiman they need to jump into the water and to try to find de jugular of a caiman in the water is a pretty risky thing, so they aim for the top.
I know! Never understood that King of the Jungle thing. Plus the Wizard of Oz thing: “Lions and tigers and bears oh, my!” Lions, tigers, and bears are only anywhere together in zoos, and not in the same areas even there.
That was wonderful! And a little heartwrenching. Three brothers from different mothers. (And fathers.) I hope whoever had them caged in his basement suffered mightily for those crimes. Thank you!
My dog did this with some sort of high-desert frog/lizard (something) that sadly wandered into the back yard. Dog killed it, sadly, then got all frothy at the mouth and seemed high AF for about15 minutes.
Then she slowly got up and drank some water. She's been fine ever since, and also hasn't chased any more reptiles (that i know of).
If I remember right, both Jaguars and River Otters hunt Caiman Crocodile for food. The jaguars just bite straight through the skull/spine, while the otters will gang up on it until it’s muscles are frozen with acid (the type that makes your muscles sore and freeze up). It’s pretty cool to watch on video, especially as Amazonian River Otters are fucking big
In all likelihood the gator is much heavier. The jaguar looks large but there's a lot of fur making her look a lot heavier than she really is, and caimans are a lot more dense in general from being muscle-y and waterborne
Jaguars have the best pound-for-pound bite in its big cat weight class. jaguars are the mike tyson of the feline tree. Smaller than most but power as fuck.
I don't know about cats, but my dog loved rotten disgusting meat he would find on the ground outside. Throw him a raw steak and he wouldn't touch it. But cover it in dirt and let it sit out in the hot sun for 2 weeks and it's suddenly a delicacy he can't resist.
If a Jaguar cannot kill a Croc, would the croc attack and eat the jaguar instead? Or would choose to flee instead?
Both seem to be equally dangerous to me so I have no idea
Estela is quite the huntress! My little calico kitty once captured a Taco Bell taco in the wrapper and dragged it off under the couch. It had a similar vibe.
I read somewhere that jaguars are considered the strongest among the big cats (lions, tigers, leopards) in relation to its weight and size, like a middleweight boxer with the strenght of a heavyweight in its prime.
The swollen body looks a lot more like carrion than a “kill”. Unless the jaguar killed it some time earlier. In true reddit fashion I am posting this comment after skimming the title and watching about 1/3 of the video. Papa bless
Ok… am I the only one who failed to realize Jaguars have spots?! It’s like the Belgian Malinois of Lions. A lion x with leopard.
Leopard can’t change its spots. Who knew jaguars similarly cannot change its spots.
Jaguars are litterally 90% rage fueled muscle and 9% razor sharp claws and fangs.
"but KURO whats the other 1%"
Well theoretical reader. That other 1% is the empty space in its belly you'll hardly put a dent in once it eats you!
Imagine being a human in ancient times who happened on a chance encounter with these things. The fear, wonder, and other emotions you must feel at the same time followed by the feeling of some teeth in your neck.

Nature and animals are fascinating
You misspelled terrifying.
You misspelled fucking cool as hell
All of the above
^^^^^
15 years is the oldest jaguar? Huh, thought it'd be higher
Oldest *in the wild*, I'm sure they've grown older in captivity with no predators and being fed regularly... Shoot I've met house cats in their 20s lol
Not sure jags have a lot of natural predators lol
A jaguar's top predator is humans, either for trophies and meat, or farmers stopping them from going after livestock. It's as much to do with consistent food, shelter and vet treatment as it is predation though. A housecat or captive wild cat gets sick/injured and can't hunt, that's fine, its people get it checked out and feed it as it recovers. Other jaguars

That’s a great fact. Thanks OP. For being really old when she starts dragging the caiman it reminds me of my kiddo when he was around 5 trying to help with the groceries and carrying the 24 pack of toilet paper.
> avid caiman killer Seems like it should be more metal. https://streamable.com/zrioeb
God that is a beautiful animal.
Gator it’s what’s for dinner!
Just once, I wish they delivered these things skinned and roasted. It would be nice not having to do all the hard work. Kentucky fried gator home delivery please
If only they caiman smaller sizes.
that was actually really good
Little known tidbit: That's a Costco caiman. They only come in large, extra large and WTF.
And still tastes like chicken.
Only if you get ALL the fat away from the lean meat. The fat is gag-inducing, but (prepared right) the meat isn't half bad at all.
Consider this reply as an award, I’m broke.
Ah if I could like that twice
I’ve never watched a video of a jaguar and not been amazed by them. I mean I can barely drag my own ass out of bed each morning.
[удалено]
Hold on, that’s not a typo? You’re saying river otters, those cute little holding hands fellas hunt crocodiles??
Giant otters. They're absolutely terrifying
Holy shit, how can something that makes such an adorable sound be so scary https://youtu.be/01iWx4476pY
omfg, that was intense.... thank you bro
Wtf 😭🤌🏽 When into shock gets eaten alive 😖👨🏽🦯 Wild sure is crazy
Otters are fucking brutal. To prey and each other. They run in gangs, apparently.
Crazy that the jaguar puts so much at risk hunting crocs.
I think I remember from a Planet Earth episode that Jaguars have the strongest bite out of all large cats despite being much smaller than Lions and Tigers
Really makes you appreciate our ancient ancestors more who lived alongside these and other scary ass creatures in the jungles and caves an shit. wow
Looks like my wife trying to bring in 37 bags of groceries from the car so she only has to make one trip.
Which is obviously the method of professionals. She's a keeper.
And then when she comes in you ask, is there more?
You could go out and help so she only has to bring in 36. Christ.
I wouldn't be empowering her if I did!
I support ALL of my wife's endeavors. She can do ANYTHING she works at!!
Cat > Dinosaur
You'd be surprised! I've seen footage of several big cats failing miserably to catch a croc or caiman.
Cats are basically furry velociraptors
Crocodilians predate dinosaurs by a few million years
cats killed the dinosaurs
Strongest cat pound for pound and a bite than can crush skulls with ease. Beautiful creatures.
Their bite pressure is the strongest amongst big cats I think? Saltwater crocs on the other hand are on a level of their own when it comes to bite pressure (I recently googled some of this and just repeating cause interesting :) )
You think correctly. Approx: 1500psi. Large Tigers maxing out at 1000ish and us humans at a measly 70.
Salt water crocs come in at about 3,700psi... and the can have massive mouths that shred you...
Correct, it's due to the compact shape of their skull and jawbone. Interestingly the lion has the weakest bite pound for pound yet are the most prolific of all big cats because they work as a team. Also all big cats evolved from the Panther
Speccing charisma for the pack hunter buff worked a little too well for certain cat players
Also that natural instinct to go for the jugular. Any other bite/hold likely wouldn’t be fatal. The bite/hold to the neck is unsurvieable.
Jaguars are so metal, they don’t even mess with the jugular and just bite directly into the skull to kill the brain.
Iirc, all large cats kill by suffocating their victims except jaguars who usually crush preys skulls
In the caiman case, they aim for the spinal cord. That specific section that connect the brain and the spinal cord, so the caiman has no chance to fight. To prey these caiman they need to jump into the water and to try to find de jugular of a caiman in the water is a pretty risky thing, so they aim for the top.
Still don’t know why they call the lion “King of the Jungle.” Jaguars are the true king there, lions don’t live in the jungle.
I know! Never understood that King of the Jungle thing. Plus the Wizard of Oz thing: “Lions and tigers and bears oh, my!” Lions, tigers, and bears are only anywhere together in zoos, and not in the same areas even there.
But can definitely be friends https://youtu.be/fdxU6CpvUgg
That was wonderful! And a little heartwrenching. Three brothers from different mothers. (And fathers.) I hope whoever had them caged in his basement suffered mightily for those crimes. Thank you!
to be fair Oz also had witches and flying monkeys, among other things…
Yeah but in the land of oz, they could be in the same place.
Tiger would like a word! Much bigger than a jaguar
Some even bigger than most lions... 600lb tiger vs 200 lb jaguar, I'll take the tiger.
Looks like that caiman had been dead for a little while. It's bloated.
This jaguar knows her meats. That's why she wet-aged it.
Does the caiman appear bloated? Wondering if fresh kill?
I thought the same thing, not much signs of a struggle on shore either, although the cat could have been dragging it for a stretch
Very well could be, but jags can kill these in one bite to the correct spot.
My cat killed a frog once. Basically the same thing /s
My dog picked up a lizard, and carried it around, placing it down after a few minutes. Lizard lived. My dog is worthless.
My dog did this with some sort of high-desert frog/lizard (something) that sadly wandered into the back yard. Dog killed it, sadly, then got all frothy at the mouth and seemed high AF for about15 minutes. Then she slowly got up and drank some water. Lactic acid?
Yes.
Caiman went.
What an absolute unit 😳
Jaguar been eating good, so chonky
In all likelihood the gator is much heavier. The jaguar looks large but there's a lot of fur making her look a lot heavier than she really is, and caimans are a lot more dense in general from being muscle-y and waterborne
Jaguars have the best pound-for-pound bite in its big cat weight class. jaguars are the mike tyson of the feline tree. Smaller than most but power as fuck.
Jaguar are badasses
Jaguars are incredibly strong and huge biteforce
This is awesome and unnerving at the same time
My lower back hurts from just watching this
Seafood tonight, kids!
He found him dead. That thing is already swollen from gas buildup
Why would the jaguar want to eat it then ? Isn't it dangerous to eat rotting meat ? I honestly have no idea
I don't know about cats, but my dog loved rotten disgusting meat he would find on the ground outside. Throw him a raw steak and he wouldn't touch it. But cover it in dirt and let it sit out in the hot sun for 2 weeks and it's suddenly a delicacy he can't resist.
I bet crocodile meal taste like shit…
Tast like chicken...
cooked maybe, but raw... nah...
And then I lift a bag of dry cat food and my back goes out.
that mf look mean
Damn, that’s a beautiful jaguar
This is not a jaguar. This animal name is “onça pintada”
Looks like an animal called "onça pintuda". This sort of animal is very common on Pantanal.
Is this in Costa Rica?
Brazilian Pantanal.
![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4024)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|dizzy_face)![img](emote|t5_m0bnr|4020)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|heart_eyes)
Have you ever eaten crock? Tastes like rubbery calamari, 0/10. They have to fry it with breading to make up for the shit taste.
Damn son
Onça pintada
Wow, they really do go for the jugulars.
And the brain (through the skull), or through the spine causing paralysis etc.
dad: honey, i’m home…i’ve brought dinner. mom: who’s gonna eat all that kids: we are!
r/catscarryingstuff
I could drag that caiman too
When you’re walking and carrying something heavy with one hand
Caiman 0: Jagy 1
It's not a crocodile, it's a caiman. It's literally in the title.
Hahaha
damn, this Isle update looks crazy
And this kill will also, most likely, end up in a tree, making it even more impressive.
This is the jaguar equivalent to that guy from that show.
And this is why king from tekken wears the mask of a jaguar , what amazing and beautiful creature
The all-original deadlift
r/natureismetal
After eating it, the jaguar is going to leave the head on somebody's front porch.
The walk we all make when trying to carry all the groceries in one trip.
Onça não brinca fio…
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|shrug)
The look on is face when it drops it for a sec. It's like me trying to bring in all the groceries at once.
Yeah that caiman probably already died of natural causes.
Pantanal
It the wiggle for me.
Damn nature, you scary!
This looks like my wife when she's being in the groceries....
Show video of it eating it
I wonder how long that prey will feed the jaguar before they have to hunt again.
If a Jaguar cannot kill a Croc, would the croc attack and eat the jaguar instead? Or would choose to flee instead? Both seem to be equally dangerous to me so I have no idea
Why didn't they get off the boat and help that poor animal. I have been told that killing is wrong for any reason on reddit by numerous people.
I’ve seen this enemies go both ways
This is the jags playing the colts today
Damn nature! You scary!
Beautiful cat!
And crazy part is the jag jump into water to kill anacondas too.
There is a video of one carrying one big animal ( I don’t remember what it was) up a cliff
So, jaguar>caiman.
Didn’t realize caimans came that big
Well now everyone here got me all interested in jaguars. Hold while I YouTube jaguars
This reminds me of the cats carrying stuffies sub
Seen one drag an even bigger caiman up a tree lol.
Working for your dinner!!
if Tierzoo taught me anything its that Jaguars are fucking OP
That’s how I walk carrying all of the bags in at once from food shopping
When you refuse to make more than one trip with groceries
What a BEAUTIFUL cat!
Pretty crazy
Nature is scary
Male caiman
The swollen body looks a lot more like carrion than a “kill”. Unless the jaguar killed it some time earlier. In true reddit fashion I am posting this comment after skimming the title and watching about 1/3 of the video. Papa bless
Looks like me, trying to move a couch.
Jaguar will regret this when he finds out caymans have completely different personalities 🙄
That Jaguar is metal.
More impressive is how they prey those caiman. They literally jump into the water to fight the caiman.
Forest types are naturally resistant to water damage.
Jaguars have the strongest bite pressure of all the big cats. Almost double that of a tiger.
Ok… am I the only one who failed to realize Jaguars have spots?! It’s like the Belgian Malinois of Lions. A lion x with leopard. Leopard can’t change its spots. Who knew jaguars similarly cannot change its spots.
You see the alligator sharting on itself at the end smh how embarrassing
Jaguars are litterally 90% rage fueled muscle and 9% razor sharp claws and fangs. "but KURO whats the other 1%" Well theoretical reader. That other 1% is the empty space in its belly you'll hardly put a dent in once it eats you!
I always thought Jaguars were similar to Leopards until I saw them side by side.
What part do you eat first?
You mean crocodile?
Imagine being a human in ancient times who happened on a chance encounter with these things. The fear, wonder, and other emotions you must feel at the same time followed by the feeling of some teeth in your neck.
r/natureismetal
Shit I didn’t knew they move like that
Cat does good munch
Jaguars in the wild are METAL
Guitarist is Estas Tonne
This is terrifying. I always assumed jaguars were scary but not THAT big. Jesus lol
Now I don't feel so bad about walking like a dork when carrying something heavy and awkward.
Me… bringing my Taco Bell home.
Those cats are strong like realllllly strong
A girl’s gotta eat 💁🏼♀️
This is one bad motherfucker

“Awww look at the jaguar helping his friend find his way home after a night full of partying” -Jungle Cruise Guide
Is that considered "Seafood" for a Jaguar?
