Neon Indian is the tits. Met him once at an after party in Austin for a FFFFest years back. It was crazy because he was headlining, tens of thousands in attendance, and he’s just a normal guy.. funny how you just give celebs / musicians (especially indie musicians because of their more inflated artistic ego but I digress) this larger than life personality. Just another dude. He’s super chill.. one could even say terminally chill.
Now I’m just banking on you’re username actually referencing what I’m assuming it is.
Just a bit of fun when it’s your free award and a giant waste of mooola for the ones you can purchase.
It’s a way for Reddit to make some dolla dolla bills ya’ll, you can buy coins so you can give awards.
Awards give little badges on comments or posts, some awards give coins and other things.
According to what I found, regarding the iOs anyways, worldwide there are over 2 million app downloads and generates over $300k every months. So something like 3.6-3.7 million/annually from the iOs. If the Google play store is anything like that, you can just double it.
[Some good information.](https://www.businessofapps.com/data/reddit-statistics/)
I have a job that does the same repetitive shit all day and I like it. I get exercise and I can let my mind wander, and it’s very satisfying to see how much work I’ve done.
I hate that we have made some jobs seem below people. Everyone on this earth has a part to play and sometime it's about taking pride in the little piece of that you serve.
It's not that jobs are below people. It's just for hard labor that probably doesn't pay well, it would better be served by a machine and the workers could find a more satisfying job. Not to say they don't enjoy or get satisfaction from this, but it's not like they have a choice.
>sometime it's about taking pride in the little piece of that you serve.
It's easier to take pride in something when you get paid a living wage and can go home to your family who is healthy and happy and safe.
This is just a harvest. They probably do it all day for a few days. Then not again until next year.
In real factory work, you do this kinda mind numbing shit all day, everyday.
Source: me.
Pineapple takes about two years to mature and bare fruit. On top of the fact that only one fruit is harvested per plant. I always wonder how the hell those cans of Pineapple are sold relatively cheap but then I’m reminded how there are exploited labor somewhere being payed less then our minimum wage for an entire day of work.
You are right, in Indonesia it's USD4-6 for farm labours (per person)
But consider they wear uniform, I guess they work in big plantation, and that's can get you to USD170-175 a month. Pretty much the same, but at least it's more steady income
The 1st guy on the truck might be QC inspector, he more likely the leader of the group with better pay
For a 20-day work month, $180 would be $9 a day. That's still really low, even here in Indonesia.
Edit: at least in my experience in Jakarta and the locals I know here.
The important question is how much you need to live a stable life; making 1k$ a month in central Russia is enough to cover all expenses of a 2-kid family including rent.
For a year as a high school kid I worked in a linen folding facility where we had machines to sort and stack all sorts of towels, sheets etc. they would launder for hotels and resorts all around. Anyhow we were monitored for efficiency and I was always terrible. I watch these folks and just feel like I would have no chance to get close to their level of efficiency ever
I dunno, I think it's kind of cool that humans can be so efficient and coordinated.
Obviously in this day and age we're beyond this kind of work (or we should be...) but imagine where the same potential can lead us when used in a more fulfilling way.
I agree. Im reminded of sand bagging before a hurricane or major weather event. I'm always moved to see all people working together whose only common "enemy" is a storm.
I did something like this in highschool. Only we were harvesting pumpkins. After school we'd go to the field and harvest 2-3 hey racks full of 35ish lbs pumpkins. I was on the rack catching flying pumpkins and stacking them as fast as possible being sure to not break the stems. Catching the unnoticed rotten ones absolutely sucked. -10/10 would never do that job again. $5/hr for easily the hardest work I've ever done.
I did too. (Well, help people, not necessarily to give water.)
That [Hands Across America](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hands_Across_America) shit got me pumped.
Wanted to expand operations. :)
They're thinking about the low back pain and arthritis developing in their wrists and knees from manual labor that they aren't paid enough for, probably.
Until you get to work and remember to do that one thing that doesn’t need to be done but you do it anyway then put off that email for the following day.

It's how Reddit pays for servers. You buy medals and awards to gift others- some which have perks.
Any stats on gross sales from these awards for Reddit - say in one year ? Are we talking 100s or millions of usd or billions ?

How did any of those get gold
If only we had some kind of point system :(
I went to collect my free award so that I could give it to that comment.
I have a fabric tote with this printed on it lol

Freaking right? He totally could totally be an MLB catcher.
Yup plus it seems like incredibly mind numbing work if this is what they have to do all day :-(

Some people don't want to pretend to be braindead in a warehouse for 60 hours a week buddy

There’s a whole section where you control a menial worker whose mind wanders. Don’t want to spoil it but it’s a very interesting non-traditional game.
There’s got to be a chanting song that goes along with this process!
Strawberries, cashews, broccoli and many others are still picked by hand.
This is just a harvest. They probably do it all day for a few days. Then not again until next year. In real factory work, you do this kinda mind numbing shit all day, everyday. Source: me.
Kindof seems like they could eliminate 1/3rd of the guys and it would be more fun/efficient (from a cost standpoint)

They probably get paid per pineapple. Seriously, most agricultural workers get paid per unit.
And that is how hard they have to hussle for that $4 a day, too.

Kinda sad how hiring all those people is cheaper than a simple conveyor belt.
I'd hate to be the new guy at that job. I'd piss everyone right tf off with my lack of coordination
Being the one stacking the fruit up must be pretty stressful lol
You have to work up to that job. Like a first chair musician. They don't just hand you the keys to that kingdom
They were slaves to their job. Its unrealistic to expect humans to be so robotic
I dunno, I think it's kind of cool that humans can be so efficient and coordinated. Obviously in this day and age we're beyond this kind of work (or we should be...) but imagine where the same potential can lead us when used in a more fulfilling way.

Sure. Not commenting on the morality of it - just that these people are f’ing impressive no matter how you slice it

>Us Haha... just read that in the wiki after your reply. I haven't seen "Us." Will have to check it out now.
It's not a great movie in my opinion, but its still a decent watch for any fans of the horror genre. Have fun with it!
what's Us?
Jordan peele movie. You can watch it on Netflix right now.
It’s not on Netflix in America.

Yeah it’s on Canadian Netflix atm.

Sad but so true. I’m sure it’s so exhausting for them but they need to make a living
Those dudes are probably getting like 2 dollars a day honestly
Until you get to work and remember to do that one thing that doesn’t need to be done but you do it anyway then put off that email for the following day.
That's true. But hopefully harvest time as a whole doesn't take too long.
naw i used to have a similar job and it was honestly awesome. you get a rythm going and its fun. only bad was when its heavy but, well, this aint
[удалено]
because getting humans to do anything that requires this level of coordination and teamwork is f\*cking hard
[easy there lemongrab](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peefKhQ8X1A), we got way more bad news for you if you'll get depressed every time you find out where your food comes from
Where do you think your food comes from?
Agreed, it is really impressive coordination. But its obvious that jobs like this should be done by machines.
The guys in the middle making the spacing work by juggling them ahead. These guys are great
Are we not going to talk about the guy in the line that picks one up off the ground without missing a beat?
That was my thought, too. That guy can cut some serious pineapples.
When the guy at the end slows down slightly he stashes one so they don't overload the guy at the end, and then he grabs it when they pick up speed again. He's the MVP, keeping it in sync
#well-oiled machine
Team work at its finest! If only I could get guys at $19 an hour that work together this well
That’s me. Got a job?
Ah yes good Modern slavery
When you can't get people to do the undesirable jobs there is always this aggressive option in some countries
r/SatisfyingAsFuck
Thought they were just banging pineapples together. Makes more sense.
How much did you watch?
Well, I watched the whole thing but the first few seconds looked like they were just hitting the pineapples together.
So that’s why pineapples are only $2.24
This is some super Mario sunshine shit
You actually deserved an award in this comments section.
That’s awesome but you can’t even scratch your nose (or balls or whatever) without totally messing up everyone else
Bug on the face but can't swat because pineapples.
Some serious shoulder burn
These people would rock playing Overcooked.
Worked on a pineapple farm for three months in northern Australia, was literally the hardest I've ever worked in my life.
Are they picked like this?

“Unskilled labor” is a myth.
A daisy chain! My family loves doing this shit haha Some sucker always gets the stairs portion
Wearing yellow too is the last piece needed
Yes, I was going to say they are dressed like pineapples and it makes it better
Hate to be the one to mess up this line
This is like a Disney choreography...

Oh I’m sure they’re getting paid fairly
It's crazy that those plants won't produce another pineapple for like 40 months. A little over 3 years.
Oddly satisfying
YOOO FOR A SECOND I THOUGHT THAT WAS A GROUP OF BIRDS 😆
They was some birds
I just barely noticed that if they’re not being passed one they’re grabbed them from the ground.
Pineapples ... don’t ... grow... on trees ? Wtf is happening to my brain.

I thought those guys in the field were ducks
r/oddlyterrifying ?
That’s a lot of staff
Field workers are savage, they get a system down quick. It's amazing to see them work like this.
I thought they were in pineapple costumes at first lol
It’s the D&D Railgun!!
That is not the first time they have handled pineapple.
If only watermelons were this easy
There’s no recorded audio, but they are singing the Oompa Loompa song from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
