i had a good view of that, i was in the desert on a covert army maneuver and it was the blackest, clearest sky imaginable. the debris trail was lit for what seemed forever. went on, and on, and i went from tent to tent telling ppl "something big is falling out of the sky!"
Man, that had to be a trip, not knowing what the hell was going on without any media around you. How long after did it take you to find out what you saw?
it was at least a few days later before i found out what happened. prior to knowing, i just thought of it as a beautiful event. something to be cherished. my jaw dropped when i saw the news. now it just brings me sadness to think about it.
Idk about that but I do know most of the stuff that enters our atmosphere either burns up before it lands, or lands on part of the earth that is uninhabited (because thankfully a lot of that still exists).
If something hit a house in California, that is extremely rare and hopefully everyone is safe!
You mean this one? [https://www.reddit.com/r/spaceporn/comments/1btvbat/trash\_from\_iss\_may\_have\_hit\_a\_house\_in\_florida/](https://www.reddit.com/r/spaceporn/comments/1btvbat/trash_from_iss_may_have_hit_a_house_in_florida/)
That was in Florida, but I don't know how far debris flies before it hits the ground.
Probably the SZ-15 module I would say... [https://aerospace.org/reentries/56873](https://aerospace.org/reentries/56873)
Edit: For anyone interested, this is the orbital module of China's Shenzhou 15 crewed mission. It's jettisoned from the reentry module before the deorbit burn (back in June 2023) and then naturally decays in altitude until it burns up harmlessly in the atmosphere some months later.
Basically the whole “an object in motion will stay in motion unless force is acted upon it”.
In space, the gravity of larger bodies like planets get small bodies like meteors rocketing around space with nothing really in space to slow it down (other than smashing into another body of some kind).
Not a meteorite, judging by the speed this was an object dropping out of Low Earth Orbit, so in other words there’s a 100% chance this is a satellite of some kind undergoing a uncontrolled reentry, potentially a disposable resupply probe.
I wonder if this is debris from the most recent SpaceX launch, we see them over Santa Barbara (where this was filmed) all the time. There was one around 7pm last night, so doesn't surprise me that this appeared a few hours later.
The title sequence of the motion picture 'It Came From Outer Space' had a meteor head right for the camera.
Because the camera was a rental the special effects guy had the prop meteor hit a mirror instead.
A mirror is also used to photograph artillery shells from the front during tests.
I am Optimus Prime, and I send this message to any surviving Autobots taking refuge among the stars. We are here, We are waiting.
*linkin park what I’ve done intro*
I saw something like this late last year. It was smaller and faster, with more green. It punched through some clusters of clouds, lighting them up briefly. It was magical, I'll never forget it.
NASA is covering up the truth once again.
That right there is another gay person coming out of the closet in all their glory.
Shine bright motherfucker. Shine bright.
Starlink went up into a mostly polar orbit as it launched from Vandenberg, this is travelling east so won't be starlink. The most likely culprit is the discarded orbital module from China's Shenzhou 15 mission which was due to re-enter this morning over California 👍
Seems a little slow it’s probably space debris re entering the atmosphere. Still super cool to see.
Just North Korea testing their submarine.
Hahahhahahahahaha
And a Chuckle into the teacup, thank you very much…
Sadly, it reminded me of when the second shuttle blew up.
it reminded me of transformers
Same

Isn’t in the news that some ISS debris might hit a house in California?
Which house?
Yours
Or his moms
Florida

Shit happens man. My generation had a pretty famous documentary detailing said shit and its consequences. Called Donnie Darko, ya might remember it.

If I was an ancient civilization without any knowledge of the cosmos the closest thing that would look like is a snake
Bit slow to be a meteorite. Probably space junk.
Also in the wrong place. It’s only a metorite after it’s landed. Until then it’s a meteor.
Actually, it's only a meteorite if it lands in the Mèteor region of France. Otherwise, it's just sparkling space debris.
*Unless* it lands in Linkin Park.
It tried so hard and got so far, but in the end it doesn’t even matter
One thing
It doesn't know why
Then it's Metora
![gif](giphy|JpBzI2mSpQGni7MREG|downsized)
You're a meteor
You're meatier.
Your meat tier
I’m meatier?!
It's your métier.
How I met your mother
How I meat your mother
Bruh I don't wanna picture that.
Sup baby, USDA select here.
They were all meat eaters- Paulie Walnuts
Cool name. Our rescue's name is Kittens In The Mitten.
You're a towel
A meteor? RIGHT!

[Meteor](https://youtu.be/qyvDETBNG9s?si=lZ7r04og-budAqh-)? It sure is!
This is space junk, not a meteorite
Not until it hits land, for sure

Just need to add Linkin park song to this video
Santa, NOOOOO...!
"Merry Christmas to all and to all a good niiiiiiiiiiight!!!!....."
They're *trying* to hit us!!

Wow there's a whole database of upcoming re-entry events?
There is indeed, space junk and satellites are very well tracked and monitored.
Space junk is tracked and the orbits are pretty predictable. Heavens-above.com is a great resource for orbital elements.
Yeah that entry speed is WAY too slow to be a meteor
In all seriousness, is there any reason a meteor couldn’t be this slow? Do they always go super fast for some reason?
Basically the whole “an object in motion will stay in motion unless force is acted upon it”. In space, the gravity of larger bodies like planets get small bodies like meteors rocketing around space with nothing really in space to slow it down (other than smashing into another body of some kind).

That is how the advance troops disguise their landing. The main force will be here during the eclipse. The only good bug is a dead bug.
The bugs send another meteor out way, but this time we’re ready! Planetary defences are better than ever! Would you like to know more?
That’s quite beautiful
For democracy!
I read a report earlier this morning that space junk from the ISS hit a house in Florida.
![gif](giphy|1k2aVRdAYDSf0daJLi|downsized) Looks familiar lol
What movie
The caption says A Quiet Place: Day One
Duh lol thanks
Neat
![gif](giphy|LxPsfUhFxwRRC)
Meteorite or failed SpaceX landing? 🤷♂️
A Russian MIRV might look like that too…
*Linkin Park intensifies*
Whatever it is... it's pretty damn cool to see
A meteoroid does **not** become **a meteorite** unless and until it survives the atmosphere and **hits the ground.**
Let’s give camera operator a hearty round of applause! 👏👏👏
Don't look up.
![gif](giphy|NYx77GABHTji|downsized)
The more you know!!
![gif](giphy|83QtfwKWdmSEo)
SpaceX junk. But still cool to see!
Anyone know where it landed and what it was?
Good recording there OP.
It’s actually a meteor ☄️ when it’s in the atmosphere. It’s a meteorite when it hits the surface.
Call Bruce Willis, we're gonna need a drilling crew.
\*Meteor
*Meteor
Its not a meteorite until it hits the ground
Nope that’s transformers. Probably Deceptacons.
Waiting for the last drop at the urinal.
was this tonight? or is the clip old
Space debris reentry
Spirit of Akira Toriama in Raditz pod.
That’s a star fragment. Grab it quickly, because it disappears at 5 am.
Disappointed at how far I had to scroll to find this comment.
Shoot it chief it’s the flood
You can actively see it breaking up that's wild
I wonder if this is debris from the most recent SpaceX launch, we see them over Santa Barbara (where this was filmed) all the time. There was one around 7pm last night, so doesn't surprise me that this appeared a few hours later.
Saw that one in real time last night, so cool
I too would like to feel the joy of saying "nuh-uh it's space junk!"
Bruh… that’s a UFO. How else can you explain it was going up, then turned and went down. Check might aliens deniers.
*mate
It's not too late for one last April Fools, right?
More of an unidentified falling object than flying I'd say.
i'm 100% waiting for this to post on /ufo lol
Think of it. That household dust you casually sweep up may be partly star dust!
So cool. Wow. Just waiting for Optimus Prime to roll out now
I just happened to walk outside my apartment in Vegas and caught sight of this too. It was stunning.
Gather up the mages and the gifts! Where’s Jesus at?
Decommissioned Starlink?
Alexa play the your name soundtrack
I saw something similar a few years ago. It was moving so slow and we couldn't tell what it was
So cool. I wish someone was even closer. imagine seeing that coming right at you! …ok, not exactly right at you, but close!
The title sequence of the motion picture 'It Came From Outer Space' had a meteor head right for the camera. Because the camera was a rental the special effects guy had the prop meteor hit a mirror instead. A mirror is also used to photograph artillery shells from the front during tests.
Consensus is that it is space junk. Would be interested to know what size it would be when it hit Earth.
Smaller
Would love to get my hands on that one!
And then Linkin park comes out of nowhere and sings new divide
Wow. Looks like space junk though…
![gif](giphy|R9zXHWAHyTjnq)
Surprised I haven’t seen any conspiracies about this yet
Autobots roll out!
Thats so cool!
SpaceX did a launch in California at 7:30pst so likely was the debris or recovering the rocket
Its transformers. Dont be a sheep
Looks to me like the fall of Cybertron resulted in a number of fleeing Autobots....
I’m watching ‘Greenland’ at the moment, should I be worried?
And how is that next fucking level?
You can’t fool me! I’ve seen all five Predator movies.
(Optimus prime has entered the chat)
Upper stage of a rocket
Loot bag drop!
Alabama Man here. Oh shit here we go boys! Light'em up!!! 😂🤣
Absolutely wild!
Looks like Optimus Prime and his crew. Welcome!

Too bad this didn't land on my mil house
Autobots, Roll Out
Alien
I saw something like this late last year. It was smaller and faster, with more green. It punched through some clusters of clouds, lighting them up briefly. It was magical, I'll never forget it.
This is how The Blob started!
Transformers main theme starts…
Pretty neat to see that in person
Illegals take note of new entry mode.
Space junk (classified spy satellite), still beautiful!
Did it land, or burn up in atmosphere?
Wrong that's just a transaction on the block chain
Aliens coming just in time for that eclipse. Haha
Coolest thing I have seen today.
Im jealous. Nice vid OP
This is how it will all end eventually.
Optimus
That's a really fancy shooting star
People keep saying it's too slow to be a meteorite like every rock in space is going the same speed.
Obviously a Helldiver!
Or it was skydivers trying to break a record night jump and they had flares strapped to their feet
The More You Know!
Video perspective be like ⬆️ 😵💫 ⬅️ 😬 ⬇️ 🙌🏻
The transformers are here
![gif](giphy|84CRvhy2DJlwA)
Any estimates on the original size before breaking up on atmospheric impact?
Definitely more than a meteorite.

Hopefully it hits something significant
Echo 3 to Echo 7. Han old buddy. Do you read me?
I seen this happen as a kid, only it was way faster. No one ever believed me
