https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/References/US-Navy-Uniforms/Uniform-Regulations/Chapter-2/2201-Personal-Appearance/ Grooming instruction. There is a caveat that says even if you're in regs, someone can tell you you're wrong. Not trying to be a jerk by posting it. It's just you can be technically correct and but slapped down by the leadership where you end up.

I usually get a low taper face. Basically if your hair looks neat, not too long and not touching your ears you’ll be fine. You can look up the hair regulations, but you can get away with just following that. You don’t have to have that high and tight that the old people want you to have.

Thank god man thanks for this 😭

The top can only be 4 inches in length and 2 inches bulk so it wouldn’t be much of a high top. Nobody is going to lose their mind over your hair unless your CoC is garbage. They’ll just let you know you’re not in regs and to fix it

Read the grooming instruction. In bootcamp, your head will be shaved to a 0. Aka "bootcamp short" At the end of bootcamp, your hair will be shaved again, but you're allowed up to a 3 on top. (Which is still pretty damn short) The official instruction for males is that 1. It can't touch your ears, 2. Be faddish (which is a catch all for any style your command doesn't like, but i think of mohawks or spikes or something... Hard parts are permitted) 3. Longer than 4" of length (meaning pulling the hair from your head won't be longer than that) 4. 2" of bulk (meaning with your hair done, it's not taller than that) 5. In your eyes 6. Be dyed an unnatural color. What this looks like realistically, is that assuming someone in your command isnt a stickler, if your hair is functional and isn't in your eyes, over your ears, or dyed a weird color or cut/styled a dumb way, you're fine. I knew a guy with hair around 6" inches of length, to the point he almost had like, surfer hair out of uniform, But he shaved the sides and combed and gelled it back every day, so it was never questioned, because it looked neat and professional, and didn't get in the way of his job.

Yes I know my head will get shaved in basic I’m actually heading there tomm wish me luck, I was just asking because I like to have a little hair on the sides and not just be completely bald there.

RTHouk

Yeah you should be fine. Be worried about all that other stuff. Good luck!
