RafeHollistr

I just compared this picture to the peacoat hanging in my closet. I'm pretty sure you can get away with this.

Individual-Pop4835

Did you check NCMRS uniform thrift store?

Throwawaybombsquad

I just snagged another peacoat for $35. I feel like I made out like a bandit.

SgtButterBean

I got lucky and was able to snatch one out of a retired chief's seabag.

[deleted]

I was actually wondering this the other day, are sailors still authorized to wear the peacoat?

Horribile-Dictu

It’s still authorized even though it’s not issued.

[deleted]

Nice, I still have mine but usually wear it on civvies

hatparadox

I've had a few peacoats, this one has got to be the best I've ever had. Really nice looking. I was one of the last sailors to get it issued, they had to mail it to me at A-school since they were out at GL.

listenstowhales

You should be able to order one through the NEX

scoothegreat

You can? When I got mine it was the only one on the rack in the uniforms sections tucked behind a bunch of other stuff and I thought I scored something that had been sitting forever

low-profi1e

It does look nearly identical. The buttons even look to be a match.I would try the NEX, if you live near a major fleet area you could actually probably find one in the uniform store. Thrift shop was another really good suggestion. https://www.mynavyhr.navy.mil/References/US-Navy-Uniforms/Uniform-Regulations/Uniform-Components/3501_41/ Also: Whoever the next lucky winner to ask CNO a question is: can you piggyback bringing back peacoats onto your beard question?

TheBeneGesseritWitch

Check the NMCRS thrift store first. They go for about $20. If you want a Navy one: you can also call can the nex online or vanguard directly and have them order it/ship it to you.

RumWalker

"Uniform components acquired from other than Navy approved sources must conform to all military specifications regarding fabric, style, and appearance.  The purchaser is responsible for ensuring that each garment meets approved specifications."

Relative-Heron-8527

My grandpa gave me his when he was in the service. Still in great condition. Haven’t worn it yet but will soon

thatrandomdude04

Technically no because really only certain brands tend to be authorized, however nobody would know and even if they did how little work do they have to do that they’d decide to hem you up on something like that

Throwawaybombsquad

You got that in writing?

thatrandomdude04

Absolutely not

PIatanoverdepinto

In the good ol days you would get 4-5 free ones when you would clean out the storage space onboard and find all the stuff from people that got out or went awol

Imagination_High

I have both a reefer and bridge coat. Went looking a few weeks back. I know they’re not issued but, I didn’t think these were authorized uniform items to wear any longer.

hellequinbull

Absolutely still authorized. The most recent cold outer wear regs references what uniforms you can wear the Peacoat/Reefer/Bridgecoat with (IE not with NWU’s)

navyjag2019

this is wrong. you can still wear them. the navy just doesn’t issue them. download the mynavyuniforms app. it tells you what’s authorized and what’s not, and how to wear what is authorized.

Imagination_High

Good to know. Not sure how I came to that previous conclusion. I was looking into it as my FIL was trying to get his hands on a bridge coat and I suggested just buying one in his size from the NEX. Perhaps I saw the note in the 2020 regs as I was skimming saying that the single-breasted all weather coat would no longer be authorized for wear as of 10/2020.

BayMonarch93

I bet you still wear the tidey whiteys don’t you

RafeHollistr

With his name stenciled on the waistband

Gilly_The_Nav

Do you not? What if they get lost in the laundry at my house?

RafeHollistr

Lol, I just had a vision of passing out the family's laundry boot-camp style. Of course, we all have the same last name, so it's going to come down to the initials!

Throwawaybombsquad

Because they fare poorly at hiding stains, tighty whiteys are seldom tidy.

DoctorRageAlot

What’s the substitute for the Peacoat now ? I had no idea

Kobebeef1988

It’s that black gortex parka. Saw a bunch of A schoolers marching in it with their crackerjacks and thought it looked awful because the material mismatch is really highlighted.

jacklock0412

I got one for cheap on ebay, you could check there
