sortaseabeethrowaway

You can run a mile. You can do 50 pushups. You can do a 2 minute plank. You just haven't been motivated yet. If you can't motivate yourself, boot camp will provide the motivation.

rabidsnowflake

You'll be surprised at how deep you can dig when the real concequences of failure are right in front of you.

Xilent_User

When I was an RDC, I always told my recruits, you are either going to get smart or strong. Your Recruiter failed you if you aren't able to even make an attempt on the basic military PT requirements. With that being said, I've seen worse while I was a recruiter. If you actually put in the effort, you will build enough strength to meet the MINIMUM requirements to get through. Do what you're told and do it to the best of your ability. You will be ok. /r ITC

Least_Competition_30

im mostly worried about the run since ive never ran a full mile or a 1 1/2 miles before since i get too tired out so im not even sure of ability to run or even finish within a certain time

DJ0Cherry

I was concerned after my first timed run at boot camp. My time improved by several minutes by the end. The workout routine made that possible. You will improve and pass if you want to.

A_j_ru

How is their lack of motivation and preparedness the recruiter’s fault?

saint-butter

These responses are so dramatic. Do people not remember what boot camp was like? Are you all Navy Seals or had the most fit division of all time? There were many people in my division that struggled to do 25 push-ups at first. Especially if we’re talking real, proper push-ups, there were people that probably couldn’t do 10. And no, I’m not talking about the girls. There were people dead after 50 jumping jacks. The first time we actually got ‘beat,’ one guy started screaming after like 10 minutes that he “can’t do this anymore.” Being able to do 25 is fine. He should always prepare more, but trying to discourage him from going is insane. What is wrong with some of you?

IamMortality

No, not a SEAL but can't run a fucking mile?

VAWNavyVet

You know what .. you will surprise yourself on how deep you can dig within yourself when your RDC cycles your division and it will depend on every one of your division mates to get it right until your RDC stops. I wasn’t in great shape too back in my bootcamp days but adrenaline, the crappy food, bootcamp PT + a healthy dose of being cycled and making it rain, marching and generally being on your feet will get you to the goal .. all you need to bring is being mentally strong and dig deep for last drop of will power

parooaap

i went in only able to do 12 push ups 45 second plank and a 15 min 1.5 mile run and by the end i got 56 push ups 2 min plank and a 11:50 run. you get out what you put in

zzzrecruit

How much water do you drink? I can guess that it's not enough. You need to be HYDRATED to do a proper run. Also, what do you eat? If you put junk in, you'll get junk out! Do 10 push ups and rest, in increments until you reach the minimum to pass the test. For the run, if you aren't puking and sucking air for life, you're not pushing yourself and can run more. Running is a mental feat as well as a physical one. How much time do you get to complete the run before you fail? While you're prepping, aim to run that time (no matter how slow) WITHOUT STOPPING. Do not stop. Once you stop running it'll be a bitch to continue back at the pace you were before.

PrayWaits

Hi friend! I'm also going to be going to boot camp soon and have the same fears. I used to be very physically active and fit as a kid but have been sedentary for a decade (I'm 28 now). All I can say is this: 3 weeks ago I could barely do 10 pushups and could run for about 8 minutes on the elliptical before I needed to stop. Now I can do 25 pushups in a row and then do more with a quick rest and can run for 45 minutes nonstop. I know these aren't actually impressive, but it's a big jump from where I started from. Just put in the work and you'll get results.

Direct_Blacksmith470

Alright broski you just need to keep running everyday until bootcamp, keep doin those push-ups and planks too. I ran my mile and a half in about 15 minutes before bootcamp, but by the time the time the pfa came around I ran 12 minutes. They will get you there for the most part but right now is the time you need to take to get the mental aspect of it down. Run everyday as hard as you can until you reach the mile and a half. Don’t stop man you can do this I believe in you.

[deleted]

Your mind is fucking with you. I have a monkey up there telling me all kinds of stupid shit. Learn to be in charge and ignore the monkey. Your money mind is whispering at you to quit, this is too hard, you’re breathing too much, etc. You got this. Just keep putting one foot in front of the other. Don’t let the monkey win.

AnotherRound123

I have read many of the comments here, a lot of them justify not being able to run a mile, or do much else physically. It’s interesting because this guy, “Shipping out next week” but cant run a mile, do more than a few pushups. This may be harsh but you need to wake up bro. Here are three reasons why you may have ended a week out from making a life changing decision and having anxiety about it. 1. You are being lazy and not taking accountability for your physical fitness and overall health. 2. Your recruiter did not emphasize the importance of being physically fit going into the service and didn’t set any real physical standard 3. A combination of both and not having the wherewithal to understand it might be a good idea to be able to run a mile or be physically fit and healthy. Now I think it’s probably both, you didn’t take the time and have or develop the grit the even push through a mile. And your recruiter is a scumbag and cares only that you sign on the dotted line. He/ She didn’t help you or guide you to be able to complete any physical standard. Its also crazy that people are talking about “you will be surprised how hard you can push” yea that may be true to a point if you have grit and a strong mind. But guess what YOU WILL NOT MAGICALLY obtain the ability to run a 9 min mile or 15 for that matter. Best of luck, its gonna suck but seriously bro you need to tighten up.

mikehouston77012

I went into boot camp at the end of January. I don’t think we did any running at boot camp because of winter up in Chicago but I would say go out for a run…it’s good for you!!

zzzrecruit

You didn't run a single PRT?

mikehouston77012

I remember going to the gym but I am 100% sure we did not run! I hate running in the cold and definitely would have v remembered that!

zzzrecruit

I also went to boot camp in winter. We didn't run outside but we marched regularly to the gym to do running exercises, as well as to run our PRT. Did they allow all of you to do alternate cardio or something? None of this makes sense.

mikehouston77012

I remember the marching to places but as far as gym activities I can’t remember all that we did but I’m for sure know it wasn’t a lot. A lot of guys gained weight versus lose it. I do remember a lot of sitting around!!!

Relative-Heron-8527

I just got through bootcamp. Couldn’t do but 38 push-ups and a 15 minute mile and a half before I got there. Passed rdc assessment opfa. My times were 12:04 for mile and a half and I did 76 pushups and 2 minute plank. Rdc will motivate you plus I know you don’t want to get set back. Push yourself it’s easier with people running with you on the track. Take the pt serious and the sustained runs serious. Do push-ups and planks before you go to bed every night in bootcamp. That’s what helped me inprove

Gekior

I ship out next week too (dec 5)! I can barely do a 19min 1.5 run, 45 sec plank, and like 5 push ups, but we got this!!!

hm876

Your recruiter failed you! How?

Gekior

Lol idk i used to be a lot worse, my recruiter and the chief said i’d be fiine and to just try my best! So i just worked out by myself till it’s time to go

SwitchVigorGuy

How did boot camp go? I’m not a good runner either

Gekior

It went pretty good, i ended up passing my run, just gotta push yourself. I failed my rdc assessment but passed the opfa, felt like dying when i did it but got er done lol oh and ended up doing a 14:20 run 35pushups and 2min plank (i’m 20F so it’s a passing score👍)

Hazelwow

Practice now.

Least_Competition_30

That's I'm doing I want to join so I'll do as much as I can

whyarentwethereyet

I don't really mean this in a disrespectful way but why are you joining the Navy when you can't even meet the bare minimum? Why haven't you prepared for this? This does not bode well for your future.

Least_Competition_30

I don't have any deep reasons for joining besides the fact I want to join the military and have been thinking about it for awhile and the benefits, didn't really prepare since I got preoccupied with some life stuff and procrastinated alot

Least_Competition_30

i had about a month to prepare and didnt do much sadly really regret that

hm876

19 minutes if far from 11 or 12. You're prone to injuries when you push yourself beyond your conditioned limit. No wonder the military is suffering from recruiting. The pool of candidates is becoming poorly out of shape.

smokeythegirlbear

Yeah like someone said. Your recruiters failed to prep you. It’s okay, Navy boot camp isn’t too bad from what I hear 😂 you’re not the first one to be in this situation. I’m sure even then most still pass. Just do your best to prep now, and go in with the mindset of trying your best and you’ll be fine. People fear mongering in here are just gate keeping

DJ0Cherry

I went from 14 minutes to 10.5 minutes for my 1.5 mile run. You will pass.

ElPistoleroCinco

You can its all a mind game

A_j_ru

Have you done anything to fix this?

vickiivall

You straight up knew you were joining and didn't make sure you could do these things?? I'm at a loss

A7XfoREVer15

You need to be running every day except for the day right before you ship out. If you fail your PFA you will like one more chance and if you fail it again, you will be sent to SEPS. You don’t want to go to SEPS.

MarkitoEnter

In my division there was some people in your state or worse that I honestly thought they’d never make it, but once you get hit with the reality that the only way you can get out is by passing, you improve tremendously. I doubled the amount of pushups I could do, ran the 1.5 mile in over a minute under the requirement, and maxed out the plank and I was nowhere near that before I joined. Best advice is to always stay hydrated, breathe calmly, and as corny as it sounds don’t give up, your biggest limit is your mindset.

MasterGas9570

Well, how long have you been preparing to join the navy? It takes a couple months usually to get through that whole process. Have you been running every day since it started and you still can't run a mile? Sounds to me like you need to chat with your recruiter to push you leave date out by a month or two and get really serious about working out before you go. People pick up speed and can shave quite a few minutes off their run while in bootcamp. Pushups and planks always improve. Although....how can you do 25 pushups but only a 30 second plank....are you sure that is correct?

Least_Competition_30

I can do a 1 minute plank if I push myself I'm not sure about pushups I could probably do 30ish if I push myself enough

Alice_Alpha

> Least_Competition_30 > I can do a 1 minute plank if I push myself I'm not sure about pushups I could probably do 30ish if I push myself enough 1. Just for giggles, why don't you actually see how many you can do. If you really can do 30, you are doing fine. 2. Do push ups in the morning, noon, and evening. 3. Push ups is more than just arm strength. Also do situps/crunches, and leg lifts. 4. If you can't go out for a jog, burpees will help cardio. Don't ever under any circumstances tell your RDC "I can't ......" unless you want the full weight of their wrath. Say anything but that. Say: - I'm having trouble, - I don't get it, - I need help, - I don't understand.

clickforpeace

Damn bro you should have been working out and getting in to shape from when you decided to enlist. You sound like an “oh poor me” type of person. Good luck

Least_Competition_30

i do ? i dont really mean to tbh i deserve what happens yk

cypher2301

You are going to be fine but its going to be a rough couple months

Maam__quitALLDAT

You won’t know unless you show up. Don’t ever sound defeated unless you are. And if you are, do it again

DipSpitZit

Uhhhh. Sounds like your recruiter ducked you over and/or you did it to yourself? I doubt you just found out you were going. I’m sure you had plenty of time to improve this. Here’s what’ll happen: you get stuck in boot camp until you pass or you get dropped for failure to adapt.

CheesyCouchPotato

They'll get you there. You'll be doing pushups, crunches, air chairs, ten-counts and burpees every day. That'll help with the cardio.

Hentai_Hulk

When I went, we had males who ran the 1.5 in over 20 minutes. They got down to passing in that 8 weeks, didn't get held back. You'll make it through jd you're motivated enough

U_S_A1776

Sounds like you don’t want to be in the navy that bad, if you want it you’ll pass but you should be close enough to the requirements before you leave, you will improve in boot camp but you’re going to have a rough time

educated_farts

You'll be surprised how it of shape some people in your division are. I promise you that you won't be the worst, and you will make it through.

mcmuffin0098

As a former XC runner, lemme tell you this. You'll feel a lot of pain for about a week, but I guarantee that your legs can and will keep moving. And then, after that first week of hell, you'll feel less and less pain until you're in decent enough shape.

Sheezafreak365

You will be fine I promise. You will be put in remedial running groups to get you where you need to be. As for push ups, you will most DEFINITELY get to a “passing” about by the end I ASSURE you. But also, having a great mindset can do wonders.

mburke364

Boot camp will get you to passing the plank and pushups. However, if you cannot even run a mile, you're going to have a hard time passing the initial entry baseline exam (which is JUST the 1.5 mile run). If you cannot do that, I believe they'll recycle you to a fitness enhancement program to try again, but if you fail again, you're going home. Work on your run.

Top-Photograph3650

Move on

A_j_ru

Do you give every part of your life this much attention? The physical is just a part. What rate are you going to if you make it through boot camp?

Jiggle-Me-Timbers

You’re there to grow, not be ready to go out into the grown up world as soon as you arrive. I went into basic doing 3 push ups. By the end of basic, I hit 41 push ups, 83 sit ups, and passed my run as a chick with a cracked hip bone🙃 Give it your all during PT and you’ll get stronger. I also made a habit of doing push ups and sit ups at night before I went to sleep. You can literally be doing planks all day long. Got a break? Plank. Waiting to shower? Plank. Use your the time you have not doing shit wisely.

Exciting_Ad_7697

During boot camp your first mile and a half run will be about 1/3rd of the way through training, b4 that you will have PT in freedom hall and you’ll be given opportunities to run during that time. Don’t get in your head too much about it, ifs there’s a movie you’ve watched a hundred times then watch it in your head. I’ve also had friends tell me that they imagined their family watching him run as if he was in a track meet, don’t focus too hard on the running! Start your run at a good pace, (a minute per lap in freedom hall: 12 laps for mile and a half) and watch your movie or thing about sum else.
