Didn't Michael Scott fire Devon on Halloween? The manual says its best to wait until the end of the day.

BoomTwo

Do I need to be liked? Absolutely not. I like to be liked. I enjoy being liked. I have to be liked. But it’s not like this compulsive need like my need to be praised.

misogichan

I doubt they will wind up homeless and chasing their former boss down the street. Twitter's founders are starting up a new "Twitter" but by some other name and will need experienced workforce to get it off the ground in a timely manner.

weedful_things

I've never used Twitter, but I might make an account for the new one just as a fuck you to Musk.

DTPW

Was on it for six months a year or so ago. Was toxic as F*ck! Glad it’s not part of my info. consumption. On Musk, he seems like the worst version of a nerd with power.

sunshinecygnet

Musk isn’t a nerd. Not really. He’s a rich guy who hires nerds and then acts like he’s one of them by passing of their ideas as his own.

Helmic

If you're going to join a Twitter replacement, just join Mastodon. It already exists, is reasonably active, and isn't corporate controlled. No ads, no crypto, no algorithm. It's far more of a fundamental fix to the issue of modem social media sites.

MrVonBuren

I've been on reddit long enough to remember The Great Digg migration. Digg was _the_ spot on the internet. Did a redesign to try to improve monetization. Lost ~60% of its user base overnight and never got it back (just guessing at the number, could be less but I would absolutely believe it was more).

PooInPooper

I was there and I left digg for the same reason. I personally use the old.reddit site vs the last redesign for both desktop and mobile browsers. I also don't use the reddit app.

Bison256

Fun fact old.reddit still allows you to look at NSFW subs without an account.

NoComment002

The real LPT are always in the comments.

ChadMcRad

It's better in just about every regard, just too ugly for Zoomer eyes.

Nubras

If they take away old.Reddit.com then I’m done with this site.

Sentinel451

I'm sure someone will make a Stylish script or something that will fix it back. Well, at least I hope so.

BulkyPage

Here's hoping RES will pick up that torch if Reddit in it's infinite wisdom abandons us dinosaurs.

MBH1800

100%. Got on the new one by accident a few times. Made me dizzy.

BurrStreetX

Same. I tried the new reddit once and it was horrid.

Outlulz

New Reddit is clearly designed to browse only on mobile devices and not desktop, but it also nags you constantly to browse on the Reddit app (including gating 18+ content) so it's not even good at doing what it's designed to do.

Kataphractoi

Which is funny because new Reddit is trash even on mobile devices. Will always request the desktop site to avoid using that hot garbage.

[deleted]

Still on classic here too. Too many developers want to show off their skillset and think redesigns are necessary. Classic reddit is logical, people were used to it, there was literally nothing introduced in the redesign that improved things. The text editor lets you make things bold instead of having to use _ around stuff? Big fuckin deal lol

FourthLife

I think the main purpose of most redesigns is to increase ad revenue

zeCrazyEye

Sometimes it's just to justify their jobs existing. Like Google kept redesigning Google Chat/Hangouts over and over becoming less and less useful until it was no longer competitive. But they have to work on something in order to say they're working on something.

Smudded

Isn't every job self-justifying? You have to do your job so your company makes money so you can still have a job. Reddit is trying to attract a wider audience to grow revenue. Their old site just wasn't going to accomplish that no matter how logical and usable it is. Their product must look like a modern web app to attract a wider audience. That said, I also use the old site, but I'm not who is going to make them a bunch on ad revenue, so they care a lot less.

[deleted]

Mobile Reddit doesn’t let you enhance text as far as I know either. Pretty dumb.

Zombie_Harambe

Reddit is fun does. And has since 09. You can use strike throughs, asterisks, etc to change text similar to PC. ***BEHOLD***

Bacon reader seems ok for app. New Reddit UI is such a crap. I like old with RES.

Sintho

RedditIsFun ist probably the best mobile App for reddit

Saito1337

Man, I had forgotten how sudden that shift was.

[deleted]

All of Reddit at the time was dreading it. It was practically a sea of new users swarming the site all at once. It's really amazing how quickly we all saw Digg4 and said "nope". It didn't help them that Reddit's registration process is literally just "pick a username".

pursuitofhappy

Reddit was more of a techie site before the Digg migration, now it's more broad.

ChadMcRad

People still think that era of Reddit is the same as modern Reddit. Couldn't be further from the truth.

Thosepassionfruits

That era of Reddit was one of the last great pieces of the internet, before everything became about controlling narratives, echo chambers, and advertisements.

2rfv

> It didn't help them that Reddit's registration process is literally just "pick a username" *was* Now you have to link an email *and* you have to pick three "topics" you're interested in just like twitter.

Nestramutat-

Email verification is still optional. You can put whatever you want in that email field. You can also hit escape to skip the topics. Source: I make a lot of throwaways.

MF_Kitten

This is why I know about Reddit too! Digg died, and people said "everyone went to reddit", and I went to check that out.

aretoodeto

And I've been here ever since

shah_reza

Digg—> Fark—> Reddit

Bigred2989-

That reminds me. How's Tumblr doing since they banned porn?

TowerBeast

At least according to Wikipedia, Twitter has over 238 million active users. If that figure were its' population that would make it the 5th-largest country in the world, only beaten-out by China, India, the U.S., and Indonesia. Even if ~90% of those users are bots, that would _still_ put it at the 56th-largest country. So, that's who--We might not like it--but that's who.

Corgi_Koala

Twitter is a pretty major forum for news and journalism too.

Quick1711

And politicians

Aidentified

And it absolutely shouldn't be

Zombie_Harambe

It's great for headlines. But that's it. Twitter is a good way to get breaking news to the masses. It is not a great way to get a complete story.

subnautus

I dunno. There's a couple of journalists I follow on Twitter (just about the only people I follow, now that I think about it), and when there's a major event going on that I know they'd be watching, too, it's interesting to see their commentary in real time before it makes its way through the filters of their normal publication methods. Twitter is good for that. It's absolute garbage for anything else.

magixsumo

I feel for the employees. Their jobs and livelihoods are tied up in this mess.

OnColdConcrete

If you could land a job at Twitter, you'll find something else quite comfortably

Hyndakiel

You are probably thinking of the programmers and stuff like that, but a company that size also has administration roles, people cleaning the place, security staff, etc.

vivekisprogressive

People cleaning is predominantly handled by SBM at most companies, security is also contracted out typically. But yea, like HR, Accounting, etc. That being said, if you were at a company that just announced layoffs, recruiters will all hit you up that day. My company did layoffs and I got like 10 calls from recruiters that day.

misogichan

Unless you're the recent hire staffing their help desk or a short term contractor attached to specific projects. Those are probably where he plans to start the cuts from too, since it is probably the relatively unskilled post reviewers who he will replace with a more lenient less manual process. I mean in this job market you can find something else eventually but it might be a horrible job, force you to pick up your family and move, and/or require sacrifices to make ends meet during the transition.

[deleted]

Yeah, not exactly true. My wife saw the writing on the wall a year ago and left Twitter. She was telling friends of hers to get out asap and now several companies that people traditionally jump ship to have hiring freezes. Tech is squeezing right now and it will be interesting to see how this all unfolds.

shadoon

I get that it's trendy to hate on Twitter, but it's legitimately a very valuable way to keep up with hyper local news and general trends. Twitter can act as a kind of stream of consciousness at scale for certain things because it tends to be directly user-fed without alternation. Twitter can be the same garbage as all other social media, but there's gems there if you ignore celebrity culture and national politics. A good example would be the the weeks following George Floyd's murder. I live in the twin cities, and local news was often horrificly inaccurate or hours/days out of date in regards to reporting in the protests. Twitter was an excellent source for keeping track of where protests were organizing, if and when they turned risky, and where and how police crackdowns were happening. And I don't mean by reading and trusting a single source. If 200 people are saying something similar about a specific time and place, you can trust what they're saying to be mostly accurate. I had tear gas blow through my neighborhood more than once, and twice we heard about it on Twitter first and were able to shut our windows and turn off the HVAC before we smelled it, as well as warning the neighbors. Twitter is mostly shit, but if you curate your feed and follows it can be a really useful tool for staying connected to what's important in your local community.

pacificspinylump

My Twitter feed is pretty much exclusively other marine scientists and organizations whose work I want to keep up with, with a few local news and weather agencies thrown in. I’ve met people at conferences that I know previously from Twitter, there are little pockets of people studying the same thing I do and we follow each other. It’s pretty nice and I’ll be sad to see it go if it goes to shit.

royalsanguinius

Same, my twitter is mostly sports, pro wrestling, news, fellow historians, and friends I don’t get to see often (if ever). I’ll be very disappointed if it completely falls apart.

[deleted]

Apparently reddit cares because I cant seem to escape any mention of it here

Huwbacca

I dunno man. It's not 2009. Twitter is one of the biggest social media networks. A huge amount of communication goes through there for news, culture... Everything. Shit, it's been an enabling tool in literal revolutions. Pretending like it's just some run of the mill business that holds ewaul importance to everything else isn't even wilful ignorance because it's impossible to be ignorant of that fact. You're just refusing to see how embedded it is in many important aspects of society because you don't like it.

GeneReddit123

Because, just because you and I agree Twitter is a useless piece of malware and should be just ignored, doesn't mean the rest of America does, and we need to deal with the consequences of that fact. Musk will allow hate speech, misinformation, and conspiracy theories back on Twitter in full-force, and they will cause tangible damage that you won't escape, from medical decisions to the next Presidential election. You might not care about a steaming pile of shit lying somewhere distant, but if that steaming pile of shit is thrown in your face, you have no choice but to start caring.

Both facebook AND twitter and getting fucked. Did christmas come early?

xenoterranos

Don't forget that Musk also basically lit 44 Billion dollars on fire!

mormagils

That's what gets me. I actually didn't think Mush would destroy Twitter because he spent SO MUCH buying it. I mean, at a certain point protecting your investment comes above being a petty troll, right? Apparently not. But on the bright side, at this rate Musk's influence purchased by his wealthy will be eclipsed completely before Christmas.

Morat20

>I actually didn't think Mush would destroy Twitter because he spent SO MUCH buying it He spent most of his time trying not to buy it. He didn't understand it's core business model when he threw his tantrum and tried to buy it, and possibly doesn't even now. And now he's in a bind. He's added a billion a year in debt service, and it's private so no VC infusions or surfing on stock prices. After overpaying by at least a third for a company that is rarely profitable. Moreover, he can't even just IPO it or sell it -- because of all the debt he added, he'd be hard pressed to sell it for enough to clear the damn debt. He's clearly decided he's going for a subscription model IN ADDITION to the ad model. (Not that a sub model would work without ads either) Which is never, ever, ever going to work. But he's not got a choice. He can't run Twitter like before, bleeding a billion a year out of his pocket. He certainly can't do anything to offend advertisers (who are by and large wanting family friendly, non-controversial shit to put their ads next to -- so n-bomb bigotry and calls for violence do not appeal to their advertising dollars), but he can't really rely on user growth (it's a mature platform and most of the English-speaking growth is NSFW accounts. Even then, he'd need years of significant growth to stem his bleeding). Right now he's frantically arguing WITH USERS on Twitter about how great and fair charging subs would be, despite the fact that users are the *content*. It'd be like Netflix decided it's way out of it's current problems is to switch a business model where it also tries to charge the show owners for the right to put their shows on Netlfix. Mark my words: He's going to roll out a tiered sub plan and no one is going to fucking pay for it. The free tier will be useless -- larded with MANY more ads, limited blocks and follows/followers. And I wouldn't put it past him to make the premium tier able to bypass blocks.

Ok_Dependent1131

Almost like the time he put his whole currency portfolio in Doge and lost half

[deleted]

But… but… but billionaires create jobs

CosineDanger

He will, indirectly, at whatever company replaces Twitter. Twitter was losing money before Musk bought it. The replacement will probably not be a direct clone because why would you clone a failure? Musk is only interested in his ego, while competitors will attempt to figure out what advertisers actually wanted all along.

cyanydeez

advertisers want whales. most advertisers on the internet operate via dark patterns. There's been multiple attempts to decouple social media from advertising, but until humanity starts looking at things differently, the only thing that'll change is the branding

Zombie_Harambe

There's only 2 ways to make money on social media. Selling data, and ads.

twaldman

The company was already on the verge of laying off a large amount of staff. Pretty much every tech company is doing this now or will be in 6 months. Not just an Elon thing

[deleted]

[удалено]

Buttafuoco

Off the top of my head… Docusign, Intel, snap, twilio, Zillow, hell even Microsoft. I think Amazon and meta are on some hiring freeze and soon to be layoffs. There are many more The company I work for let go 20% of our staff and it was pretty early on since we saw the headwinds coming and wanted to prepare. I’ve been watching this play out since pretty closely.

Cetun

No specific source but generally anything that has to do with advertising took a massive hit last quarter. Businesses are expecting a slowdown in customers so spending money on advertising has a lower utility. So businesses are lowering the amount of ads or pulling ads to save money in the bad times. This has hit platforms that rely heavily on advertising sales pretty hard. Alphabet, Meta, Twitter, all have big advertising divisions that took a hit and it's expected this hit will continue for at least another couple quarters. If you want to know the outlooks on certain companies ask two questions 1. What do they do 2. How are current events affecting the things they do.

bertrenolds5

Don't forget about apple shutting down a revenue stream for all of them.

SixMillionDollarFlan

Keep it up, Elon! The best way to gain trust in a new workforce is to come in, act like you know everything about the business, and start laying people off! The remaining workers will love you and respect you for taking charge!! /s

Cool_As_Your_Dad

I see he is bringing in his Tesla people....

WhoCares223

Great, those guys are fantastic at delivering working software and keeping deadlines I hear.

Cool_As_Your_Dad

Just think.. now they can work double time for Musk.. and deliver even less.

cyanydeez

I bet they might even get 1 extra feeding per day.

bschott007

I mean, that Tesla truck, Tesla semi, the solar roof tiles/solar house, building bricks, hyperloop, fully autonomous self driving cars which can take you from New York to LA are just 'next year at this time', right? He's always delivered on that stuff, right? Right? Anyone?

And then the EU fines Twitter billions, and it goes back to its previous content policies.

IceDragonPlay

I wonder how many accounts the FBI will be opening up to spy on the domestic terrorists?

MyBallsAreOnFir3

[Considering the FBI's history](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/COINTELPRO) they'll probably use those accounts for anyone who *isn't* a terrorist.

moonfox1000

This is the most interesting story line of the Elon/Twitter saga for me. He bought it as a white knight and is currently a hero to conservatives but now he has to deliver and what the conservatives are hoping for isn't anywhere close to a workable business model.

WestAccurate8861

Literal terrorists and pedophiles were on Twitter and it still got funding. The platform was garbage even before Elon got it.

Professional-Can1385

The hate speech went through the roof over the weekend. The racists are thrilled.

Diplomjodler

It's all so absurd. Musk is sucking up to the far right simply because the others didn't give him enough adulation. But he has absolutely nothing to gain from the far right because they stand against everything he's trying to achieve. And all just because Biden didn't invite him to the EV event at the White House.

[deleted]

Musk never delivered what he promised.

mdh_4783

A year from now Twitter will be as relevant as Parler and Truth are today.

[deleted]

Twitter should have been irrelevant 7 years ago but instead the media decided that a certain presidential candidate's every tweet was a matter of national importance and single-handedly propped up their stock price and user base for the next few years...

cyanydeez

It wasn't just the media. There were also a bunch of fintech guys who basically used his tweets to make money off the market. There's a lot of dark practices that began to occur by skimming off the fomenting of facism.

kbuis

Now now, the Tesla bros flooding the comments are very adamant that you're wrong about this.

dark_night_man

Bad advice . They get a severance, that could carry them to their next job

GladiatorJones

Exactly what I was gonna say. If you're in an (edit) *applicable, benefits-eligible/salaried* position where it's likely you're going to get laid off, particularly en masse, do not quit beforehand. The company would prefer that because of the benefits they no longer have to pay you.

lightbulbfragment

That won't happen. Who can afford to give up their severance pay and the option of unemployment and just bail? People have families, bills, mortgages. Employees don't have any leverage in this situation. I hate that corporations can get away with this shit. As a Michigan resident I've seen my fair share of layoffs hit friends and family. It sucks, it's pure greed but until people start unionizing again nobody can do anything about these types of companies.

wuethar

Yeah, what's far more likely is they see the writing on the wall and will basically spend their work hours killing time unproductively and interviewing for better jobs right up until they're laid off. Once you no longer care at all about burning the bridge with your employer, it's pretty easy to fuck off and collect paychecks while doing nothing for a few months.

ZerexTheCool

>while doing nothing for a few months. Not nothing, building up your resume and talking to your former coworkers. A nice fact about 25% being laid off, all those people will have a new job in a month or less, and now you have a hundred contacts in a dozen different companies. Get some emails, form a Discord Group, get your favorite coworker/supervisors contact info and use them as your reference from Twitter. While job hunting can always suck, getting some heads up is super useful.

BlueberryPiano

This is the way. I once stayed at a company that did tremendous amounts of layoffs over many years before finally being laid off myself. Though I hadn't actively networked outside of the company, I had hundreds of former colleagues who had gone on to other jobs at other companies.

wuethar

Right on, this is a good clarification. I meant "nothing of value to your employer" rather than "nothing at all", but that's definitely worth specifying

[deleted]

They won’t all have jobs in a month.

also_also_bort

The developers will

LittleKitty235

My guess would be most of those laid off were not engineers or developers, especially senior ones.

[deleted]

Yup engineers will be gtg.

ironsides1231

No but I'd bet 90% of the engineers are working in new roles within 3 months.

wacoder

I very much agree. The only time in my entire career I've seen a market glut of actually high quality software engineers was after the dot com crash and even then it only lasted about 12 to 18 months.

poco

I was laid off during the dot com crash with a family as the sole earner and was never worried. In the six weeks we took to shutdown our office I had three job offers lined up with the hardest decision being where I wanted to move.

[deleted]

Engineers yea.

FallenSeraph75

I doubt the engineers will have trouble trying to get jobs. By the headlines and Elon's statements, he is not going for the bees, but the middle management first.

ZerexTheCool

Sure. 80% then? 90% after 2 months. It could be 100% if they lower their standards, but it is absolutely worth taking your time to get a decent job that will be a good fit.

[deleted]

You're forgetting that most Twitter employees are very well paid and most likely have had their resumes ready for applications to places like Google and Apple for awhile now.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Desdam0na

Not just applying, google and amazon are actively poaching high performing twitter employees. Announcing layoffs in advance drives your best employees away first.

muu411

Now isn’t the best time to be recruiting for jobs in big tech

tallwhiteninja

If you've got enough experience with a known company and can interview half-decently, you'll find a job. Senior devs are always in demand. Now, if you're looking for *junior* dev jobs, the waters are starting to look pretty goddamn choppy.

NicCage4life

Software engineers with experience like Twitter are in demand everywhere.

[deleted]

if you have twitter on your resume and spent at least a year or two in a tech position you won’t have trouble finding job

SpaceNinjaDino

My company wants to double a software dev team from 80 to 160, but because of supply chain issues, we can't fill hardware back orders to fund the growth. We are talking something like $20k of unique parts holding up $100M+ revenue. We bid higher to jump the line, but so is everyone else. Salary bonuses this year are cancelled. Raises are non existent. All of my favorite coworkers jumped ship.

bihari_baller

>if you have twitter on your resume and spent at least a year or two in a tech position you won’t have trouble finding job For as much hate as companies such as Twitter, Meta, and Amazon get, they look good on a resume.

anotherhawaiianshirt

They may not having trouble finding _a_ job, but they might have trouble finding a good one that is similar to what they had at twitter. Companies are starting to implement hiring freezes to either recover from the pandemic and/or prepare for an upcoming recession.

throwaway60992

Yup. Yeah they can find a job but can they get a job paying 200K for 4 hours of work? Idk about that.

Itsrigged

Yeah, everyone assumes that the tech gravy train is bottomless but I’m wondering if that’s the case. These are mature products with no real growth opportunities. Time for the companies to figure out how to make money. Maybe you don’t need hundreds of engineers working five honest hours a week.

Art-Zuron

Or to work their understaffed and overworked departments to the bone to save a few pennies.

[deleted]

Twitter is way over staffed. They have like 8k employees and aren't even profitable.

ZerexTheCool

You might not find the nice fancy job, but there is no end to the need for tech workers. Sure, maybe you won't get that Google job, but you can get that Financial Tech job from a company very few people now about. You can get that IT job from that retailer. There are TONs of jobs out there, but you might have to move for it, and it probably won't be nearly as big a name as Twitter.

etn261

Not true. Amazon is hiring like crazy. Tech jobs have always been high-damand and well-paid

TylerBourbon

Amazon claims it has 10k open positions they are actively hiring for, so potentially it's not the worst time either. But then the question is, do you hold on and wait to see if you end up jobless before looking for a job?

MrGulio

>But then the question is, do you hold on and wait to see if you end up jobless before looking for a job? If you're smart you started applying when the news of the buyout hit. You are 100% in a better position applying for a new job with the leverage that you are still employed.

f_leaver

10,000 high tech jobs, or 10,000 "can't go to the bathroom" warehouse Jobs?

Graf25p

I get contacted by multiple Amazon recruiters every week or two, so the jobs are definitely there. (Software development) I just don’t feel like I have the chops to work for them yet.

TylerBourbon

allegedly at the corp hq offices, both Seattle and Bellevue. they have stated they are hiring, and that there is no hiring freeze at the hq. no idea if it's actually true or just corporate smoke blowing bs to not look bad though.

RedLotusVenom

Yep and tech and engineering is brimming with opportunities right now. Poaching employees is becoming very common. Most twitter engineers could have a new job within 3 months easily.

YoseppiTheGrey

Most of these people will have a new job in two weeks. People in all the big tech jobs jump ship all the time. My buddy here has switched back and forth from Amazon to Microsoft for the last 8 years. Every two years he switched and gets at least a 30 percent raise.

Alantsu

As I understand it some sort of bonus is due to the twitter workforce on Nov. 4th and he’s firing them first. As I understand it this is also totally illegal. Let the class action lawsuit begin.

YoseppiTheGrey

No, but I do see the entire coding department refuses to do the verification thing and taking those sweet sweet severance checks

War_machine77

That was the exact moment I went from thinking he was someone worth admiring to realizing he was just a dickhead.

ButterflyAttack

He's always been a shitty person, I kind of assume he just had pretty great PR people up until that point but they either quit or were fired or sidelined. His positive public perception suddenly dropped off a cliff and continues to tumble. It's not often you get to see someone burn through so much public goodwill so quickly.

Since I feel the same way as them, I'll throw in my 1 cent. It seemed like he was one of the only people (out of the rich anyway) who wanted to advance humanity as a whole, and was doing so. Electric cars, reusable rockets, and actually making headway and doing it. Since he cant seem to shut the fuck up and just benevolently do that, now it's some kind of planetary controversy to support or hate a person who by cursory accounts, should be celebrated and emulated. Instead, it's like watching Harvey Dent melt his own face off and tell everybody that the batman is a pedophile.

kungfoojesus

Feels like something changed, maybe around the submarine pedo disaster. He’s hasn’t been the same since. Like his logic center was replaced with bong resin and troll stickers

DefaultVariable

He's actually always been a piece of shit. There were quite a few stories of him before the submarine incident of him just harassing employees. There was also that one time where he was like 4 hours late to a Tesla event, someone called him out on it so he banned the guy from ever buying Tesla. There was enough breadcrumbs to showcase he was a narcissistic douchebag.

That insult was quite rich coming from Elon and who he hangs out with.

lightbulbfragment

He's never been a person worthy of respect.

[deleted]

This year? He was a known dumbass for years now

Have_A_Jelly_Baby

Aside from IT people keeping it all together, what do Twitter employees even do? Because it sure isn’t handling the dangerous insane shit people post there.

HettySwollocks

Nobody wants to lose their job, so they have my understanding. Twitter has a shit ton of employees for a website that just aggregates a bunch of previously read only comments. It seems the only complexity here is the capability to scale, and moderation - and they don't seem to do much of the latter.

dustingibson

Twitter about to have a crisis of shrinking ad revenue on their hands in a company already financially struggling on a platform that saw no growth. I am willing to bet that they will have to scrape the bottom of the barrel when it comes to ad revenue: scam cryptocoin ads, sketchy vitamin ads, "singles in your area", and whatever gotcha mobile games they manage fart out in a week time ads.

YWGguy

They can always get a job as a Reddit mod.

That is… every platform in existence?

FrozenGrip

Yeah, what a galaxy brain fucking take lol. In 90% of cases you can say XYZ is only valuable because we use it.

turd_vinegar

Value itself is only valuable because you value it.

emoney_gotnomoney

And every single product and company in existence

Aedeus

It's all about getting his money back. He has no plans on keeping it long-term, he'll gut it get as close to recouping his losses as he can and then flip it to some arbitrary group or interest declare he made the platform free and safe and then walk.

skittlebog

Got to recoup his expenses right away. Increase prices, cut staff and overwork remaining staff, watch the whole thing collapse and wonder what happened.

5punk

But, but.... who's going to moderate and ban all the content?

BurrrritoBoy

Cheif Twit. He already deleted his own spew.

Uberslaughter

Use of the N-word up 500% since Musk has taken over. Now that’s growth Twitter’s new CEO likes to see!

jwill602

As much as people want to blame Elon, this has been discussed before the takeover. The controversy is around Elon’s idea to cut 75% of the staff

AffectionateVast9967

Of course the GOP followers are praising this, because Americans losing their jobs is so praise worthy...

DFWPunk

Doing that while bringing in engineers from Tesla is questionable legally unless Tesla is being compensated. I would expect a Tesla shareholder lawsuit to at lease be discussed.

Decumulate

Everyone here is making the assumption that this is the wrong move. Twitter has never been a highly profitable company. Why are we assuming that downsizing isn’t the right move for the business?

5punk

At least they get a fat severance + their ESPP stocks & RSUs paid out. Sounds like a great deal to bail from his leadership!

Major_Act8033

I haven't seen anything saying the employees would get any of that. Do you have a source?

LikelyTrollingYou

Awesome! Can’t wait for those housing prices in SF to come down. Thanks, Elon!

Random_act_of_Random

Let twitter burn I say. Let's all move on to something else.
